Modélisation de la montée vers un état critique de la situation de basses eaux sous forçages naturel et anthropique en région méditerranéenne / Modeling the rise of a critical state of the low flows situation under natural and anthropogenic presures in the mediterranean basin

Canovas, Ingrid 12 December 2016 (has links)
Water and life are unequally distributed. This hinders the development of societies, and leads to situations of tension, whoseintensity and frequency vary according to climatic conditions, population density and according therefore to demand. With theongoing climate change and the rising water requirements (the stock dedicated to the natural environment), the level of tensionis likely to rise, such as the frequency of very low water. The French Mediterranean territories are particularly concerned withthe fragility of water resources during summertime (a little watered season, a strong tourist appeal, etc.). In addition, everymodification in the climate regime (the decreasing of rainfall inputs, etc.) would necessarily affect more the small catchmentwith very local resources, such as rivers and living areas which don’t benefit from the influence of major rivers (Rhone, Durance,etc.).The reflection on water scarcity can therefore be focused on the structure of such a risk (sequence of steps, the impact of onefactor on the others, etc.), and on the conditions that make the system reach an undesirable situation. The approach adopted here suggests to decline this particular approach to low water. Three objectives are here stated: (1) identifyand compile, within a specific database, the essential information to understand the phenomenon; (2) characterize the meanstate of low water from local situations and through robust statistical descriptors; (3) determine the terms of its evolution tocritical states. The whole work leads first to the development of a probabilistic modeling, which is designed to be deployed in different spatialscales and in dfferent times. The reflection is then extended to the methodological and technical arrangements that would allowthe development of analytical indicators and synthetic indexes for assessing the resource level of tension. The approach finally results in simple and intuitive digital tools, that can be mobilized for operational purposes such asdecision-making support for the implementation of anticipatory measures and regulation, and that can transferable to anyMediterranean territory.

Silva, Edson Tenório da 12 April 2007 (has links)
The knowledge of the leaf area is required every time the sugarcane is subjected to evaluation in which different varieties are compared or submitted to different environmental conditions, managements or fertilizations, therefore evidently showing alteration in dimensions of the plant leaves, so affecting the photosynthetic process. Although the higher breathing-photosynthesis balance increases the amount of the assimilates available to vegetative growth (Net assimilation rate), the preferential carbon allocation for the different fractions of the leaf-plant, stalks, and root system, that is conditioned by the medium and/or management, can change the growth indexes. Thus, the estimates of those indexes can supply subsidies for understanding the adaptations of the plants under different medium conditions: light, temperature, moisture and soil fertility. The growth analysis is considered as standard method, since it is fundamentally based on the fact that about 95% on average of the dry matter accumulated by plants during growth rather result from the photosynthetic activity (Benincasa, 2003). The remaining comes from the absorption of mineral nutrients. Although at lower amounts, the mineral nutrients are indispensable to the vegetal growth and development, since they are absorbed and incorporated into every vegetative biomass. On direct or indirect way, they participate into production of the organic compounds as well as in sucrose´, that is produced from the phosphates-trioses transported from the chloroplast to cytosol and is mainly exported to the vacuoles. The present study was carried out to evaluate the methods for estimation of the leaf area, population density, growth and yield of two sugarcane cultivars provided with high productive potential and fertilized with different phosphorus doses in the cane plant cycle. The randomized block experimental design was used with five replicates under a factorial scheme 2 x 6, and the treatments were composed by the cultivars RB867515 and RB92579 under six P doses (0, 30, 60, 90, 120 and 150 kg ha-1). At planting time, all plots were given amounts corresponding to 33 and 200 kg ha-1 N and K, respectively. When beginning the rainy season at 210 DAP, either side-dressing fertilization and the micronutrient fertilization at the doses 67; 6; 6; and 7 kg ha-1 N, Cu, Mn and Zn, respectively were accomplished along the cropping line. Nine evaluations were performed with plants collected within 2.4 m2 at 30-days average intervals for estimation of the leaf area by two methods, plant population and dry matter accumulation in either photosynthetically active leaves and the whole plant. The tenth sampling was accomplished at 458 DAP in order to determine the yield of the apparent sucrose. After obtaining the data, the statistical analysis was accomplished, by using the program SISVAR. The estimate of the leaf area by using just the leaf +3 is an alternative to the conventional estimate method, when determining the foliar area for sugarcane crop. The increased phosphate fertilization contributes to increment the leaf area in the sugarcane crop, specially for the RB92579 cv. The phosphate fertilization widely affected the leaf area index (IAF), dry matter accumulation in plant, crop growth rate (TCC), relative growth rate (TCR), net assimilation rate (TAL), and both stalk and sucrose yields. During the period from 280 to 310 DAP, the highest IAF and TCC occurred, whereas the RB92579 cv. showed higher values. The RB92579 cv., showed higher yield of dry matter, industrializable stalks and apparent sucrose.

This research test the relationship between the volatility of real returns in stock indexes and rare events (positive and negative) in real GDP and, additionally, the relationship between the occurrence of such events and the volatility of real interest rates and of growth in real effective exchange rates. To test these relationships I use the GARCH model, with the goal of modeling volatility of the considered variables (stock indexes, real effective exchange rates and interest rates) and regressing volatility against dummy variables that measures the occurrence of rare events. The test was performed for the following countries: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, South Korea, Japan and Brazil. I found evidence to suggest that the occurrence of negative rare events (rare disasters) impacts positively the volatility of real returns in stock indexes and of growth in real effective exchange rate. However, the results don’t indicate that there is a relationship between positive rare events and the volatility of these variables. In respect to the volatility of real interest rates, the tests did not indicate the existence of a relationship with rare events, but these results may have been influenced by the fact that the sample is small.

Neves, Fernanda Misso Mario das January 2016 (has links)
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is characterized by ovulatory dysfunction a hyperandrogenism. The prevalence of PCOS in women of reproductive age range from 6- 19%. Women with PCOS present higher prevalence of cardiometabolic risk factors as abdominal obesity, dyslipidemia, hypertension, impaired glucose tolerance and diabetes mellitus type 2. These metabolic abnormalities have been primarily linked to insulin resistance. Currently, the diagnosis of PCOS is confirmed according the Rotterdam Consensus. The more frequent phenotypes are the classic phenotype (hyperandrogenism and anovulation with or without polycystic ovary appearance), and the ovulatory phenotype (hyperandrogenism and polycystic ovary appearance). Evidence suggests that women with classic PCOS phenotype present more severe metabolic alterations compared to women with ovulatory PCOS phenotype. The aim of the first study was to evaluate the performance of the waist circumference (WC), waist-to-height ratio, conicity index, lipid accumulation product (LAP), and visceral adiposity index (VAI) based on homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA- IR)≥ 3.8 as standard reference for screening preclinical metabolic alterations and cardiovascular risk factors in classic PCOS and ovulatory PCOS phenotypes. Among these indexes, LAP had the best accuracy for screening metabolic alterations in classic PCOS phenotype, while VAI had the best accuracy for ovulatory PCOS phenotype. cardiometabolic alterations in the group with classic PCOS, a phenotype which is characterized by higher risk for hypertension, dyslipidemia, and impaired glucose tolerance. In ovulatory PCOS, VAI≥ 1.32 was useful to detect women with significantly higher blood pressure and less favorable glycemic and lipid variables as compared to ovulatory PCOS with lower VAI. In addition, lifestyle intervention (diet and/or exercise) is the first-line treatment for PCOS. Although structured exercise (at least 30 minutes daily) has been recommended and has shown a potential effect on improving insulin resistance, anthropometric, and hormonal variables, the long-term maintenance of exercise remains a critical point. Therefore, the aim of the second study was to objectively examine the effect of habitual PA on metabolic, hormonal, BMI, and anthropometric variables of women with PCOS and a control group, matched by age and BMI. The PA was assessed by digital pedometer, and according to the number of steps/day, participants were classified as active (≥ 7500 steps) or sedentary (< 7500 steps). This study showed that BMI, WC, and LAP were lower in active women in both groups. In the PCOS group, total testosterone, free androgen index (FAI), and androstenedione levels were lower in active when compared to sedentary women. Besides that, a 2,000 daily step increment was an independent predictor of the FAI reduction in PCOS group. The present study showed that a more active lifestyle is associated with healthier anthropometric and metabolic profile, and may be beneficial to women with PCOS, especially for those which are obese and sedentary.

This study aimed to identify what are the key attributes that characterize the Boards of Directors (BoD) in Brazil, thus allowing for a better understanding of their influences on the capital market. I have been found that there is a high degree of correlation between the 31 analyzed characteristics, suggesting that other researches on the topic could have evidenced the relationships of some variables that probably were reflecting many other strongly correlated characteristics. The main target was to better understand the environment in which the Boards of Directors are situated in order to define, in fact, what are the key attributes of these Boards based on the variance of a larger set of characteristics. The factor analysis (FA) allowed a deeper analysis of these characteristics, getting rid of the specific correlations between them and then building non-correlated factors. From this scenario, five indexes were built to reflect the factors extracted from the FA, allowing them to be related to the value and performance of firms through multiple regressions; these factors are: variable and fixed remuneration, dedication of the members to the Board, basic training and degree of the BoD members (Master and PhD degree). The results were divided into three sections: i) characterization of the Boards of Directors in Brazil, to allow a better understanding of the BoD´s environment in the country; ii) determination of the key characteristics of these Boards, in other words, which are the characteristics that explain most of data variance, through factor analysis and; iii) the relationship between the constructed indexes and the return, abnormal return, Tobin´s Q, ROA e ROE, in order to verify if the features that summarize the environment of the BoD are perceived as important by investors at the time of the investment. In addition, I also found that the remuneration of the Directors is responsible for explaining about 40% of the data variance referring to the Boards of Directors, thus suggesting that this characteristic is of great importance in the spectrum of corporate governance, especially regarding the Boards of Directors of the firms. I also identified that the "fixed compensation" factor influences negatively and significantly both in abnormal return and Tobin´s Q. The relationship between dependent variables and other factors has also been tested and the results suggest that the dedication of the Board members is significant to explain Tobin´s Q and that the level of education of the members explains significantly the return, abnormal return and the Tobin´s Q.
