Cardestål, Ida January 2020 (has links)
This study was made with the elementary school Åkerskolan in Strängnäs county and with some support from the Museum of Technology, Tekniska Museet, in Stockholm county. The students that participated in the case were in first to fourth grade. Qualitative interviews and observations have been done with the students in a forest during school trips. This was to collect data about their relation to the forests and animals in the forest. The study is a phenomenological study that focuses on affordance, which is a concept within information design that describes the relation between a physical object and a person and the possible interactions between a person and its environment. The study also brings up theories about the human relation and distance to the forest and animals' relation to the forest, to give a perspective of the forest as a home. The work has resulted in a design as a concept for teachers in first to fourth grade to do with their students in school. It could be both playful and educational for the students and it will change their way to look at their nearby forests and they will think before they act next time.

Strand, Alexandra January 2021 (has links)
This is a bachelor thesis in information design, focusing on spatial design. This study examens the situation of remote study from home during the covid-19-pandamic. With a spatial perspective regarding new routines, and with a focus on zones, boundaries and transitions between studies and free time. How does the transition from having lessons on campus to only having lessons digitally from home effect the user? What approaches are there to use to ease the situation. How can the differences between free time and studies be communicated in a clearly and informative way? The study addresses contemporary and past research as well as theories, regarding activity- based offices, boundaries, transitions and notations. The study addresses also the execution and results of methods, including a questionnaire, user test and interview, and the AEIOU- method. The projects design process with its different phases is also addressed, where the structure of the project model and the design process were an important and interesting component that contributed to the continued work on the project. Based on all this a design proposal is produced in form of a concept, with the purpose of being a support for student and facilitate the situation when it comes to remote study from home.

The Design Of A Check In Application For User Safety : Development of a user centered application, adapted to a wide user group with the purpose of specific location human activity forecasting / Design av en inchecknings applikation för användarsäkerhet : Utvecklingen av en användar centrerad applikation, anpassad för en bred användar grupp med ett syfte i att tillföra framtidsprognos av människoaktivitet

Jusufovic, Dennis, Bardan, Aly January 2021 (has links)
The covid-19 pandemic initiated this master thesis project. The pandemic has spread globally causing a lot of fear and uncertainty. We noticed the big shift in people’s daily routines, with the current state being that many individuals are stuck at home, scared to go outside, scared to meet with family members that are within the risk group. The future is very uncertain, people not knowing when society will return to normal. To provide people with a sense of safety, a tool for an easier daily routine, the feeling of more control in their daily lives, an opportunity to help others. These are all purposes that embody the reason for this master thesis. The goal of this master thesis project is to develop a digital prototype of an application concept. The application’s purpose is to provide users with insight of high activity areas of people in their vicinity or specific locations, to hopefully result in the user feeling more in control and hence more safe. The workflow used in this project is based on design thinking, using experience gained from the industrial design engineering program combined with research on the topic of user interfaces to develop and test the concept. The focus of the research in this thesis is placed heavily on usability and graphic design. The process was divided into phases following the process of design thinking, with potential users included in every phase. From interviews, questionnaires and personas during the first phase of context immersion to workshops during the second phase, ideation, to finally usability testing during the third phase, implementation. To ensure that the needs of the user were always focused on throughout the entirety of this master thesis we included potential users in each phase of the project. During the different phases, Tensaii AB provided guidance on decisions made by us, as well as provided feedback on specific methods and results presented during the weekly meetings. The result of this master thesis is an application prototype, the design based on all the data gained from participants and collected literature. A design that, through a high level of usability, enables a wider group of users to easily use it. The concept was named Milocus, translated from Latin to ”my place”. An application that through a check in function can collect data about activity in different areas. The application clearly shows the activity to the user through three categories, calm, busy and very busy. The color choices and design of the application were made using the online tool Material Design.

Lundén, Daniel January 2019 (has links)
This thesis is about how a three-level sign system; at eye level, at ground level and at an elevated level, can facilitate navigation to parking meters in Stockholm's inner city. This study is written in the field of Information Design with specialization in Spatial Design. The first-time visitor’s difficulty in finding parking meters is the practical problem that underlies this work. The methods used are spatial analysis, including observation as well as site analysis. Benchmarking, customer experience audit, interview, survey and user tests have also been used for empirical data collection. The study has resulted in a design proposal aimed at facilitating visitor’s navigation from the time they have parked their car until they have reached the parking meter. Stress that occurs when one feels lost in a city environment should be minimized with the help of my design proposal. This will result in fewer missed plans for the visitors and an overall better experience of paying for your parking in Stockholm’s inner city.

Warfvinge, Joakim January 2019 (has links)
This is an examination paper in information design specializing in spatial design. This work is searching for more understanding of what joy and co-creation in interaction with a 3D-model can bring to the process of communicating possibilities to live flexibly within a small space in a modular house, focusing on the digital oriented ‘generation Z’. We live in a time where climate threats are more real than ever but in Sweden we consume and expand more than is sustainable within our planet’s bio-capacity. Since Sweden is a rural country, Swedes are used to having a generous amount of personal space. This may be one reason why we don’t realize or understand that, or even how, we can live in smaller space, making our biological footprint shallower. Even though Sweden could be seen as a highly democratic country we still need to strive to make our building processes more democratic. Many of our built environments are designed without participation of the users, in the area of housing or domestic construction this can lead to an experience of alienation in shaping one’s life, due to the strong connection between the home and the resident’s identity. This examination paper is based on theories within Information Design, Human Centered-Design, Human-Computer Interaction and on theories concerning spatial perception and how shapes and form can be used to influence it in order to make smaller living-spaces appear more attractive. The methods are mostly based on literary study which has been supplemented with user dialog and cocreation in real-time, making every user a part of the process and therefore even a co-creator of their own design proposal. This with the intention of demonstrating how a modular house can be an alternative for living smaller but still living according to every user’s own personal needs and values.

I'm as naked as the room" : To design the gynecology room according to the patient's needs

Knuutinen, Tina January 2020 (has links)
In my study regarding gynecological examination, it turned out that women generally have a positive attitude to being examined gynecologically, but the experience is not the same as the situation can be experienced as omission. It also emerged that they experienced the feeling of stress and anxiety of exposing the sex. The solution to the women's experience in this problem only highlighted the gynecologist's approach or product design. Something that is increasing worldwide is the knowledge of the importance of the physical aspects of the environment for the patient in a care environment. Design and architecture are increasingly used in the design of care environments. What has emerged in many researches is that the patient's health has found well-being when the room has been designed according to the user's needs. This is a degree project in information design with a focus on spatial design. The purpose of the work has been to investigate, together with users, the gynecologist's experience, challenges and potential solutions together with theories, methods and previous research. Subsequently, a design proposal in the form of a concept has emerged, which can improve the room experience for the patient, which gynecologists can take part in when designing gynecological rooms.

Análisis de los elementos gráficos dentro del diseño de información que facilitan la comprensión del consumidor en los empaques alimenticios / Analysis of the graphic elements within the design of information that facilitate consumer understanding of food packaging

Gallardo Vargas, María José 07 July 2020 (has links)
The main objective of this research is to analyze the graphic elements of the information design that facilitate consumer understanding of food packaging. Likewise, it seeks to analyze the impact of information design on users. For this, interviews with experts in the detailed fields and subsequent consumer surveys were performed. The total population of this project were adults between 30 to 55 years old, it was decided to analyzed this age range because it includes people who tend to look more at the data and benefits of a product when making a purchase. It evaluates those who usually buy in affected supermarkets in modern Lima in districts like; San Miguel, San Isidro, Miraflores, Surco, San Borja, La Molina, Pueblo Libre, Jesús María and Magdalena del Mar. It was determined that, according to the results of the field work, the elements within the design of information that facilitate the understanding of the users are: the use of figures, diagrams, iconography, adequate typefaces and the correct synthesis and organization of information. These elements must be taken into account and respected by the designers with the intention to guarantee the understanding of the users. / Trabajo de investigación

Dying ‘on time’ in dementia

de Haas, Marije, Hignett, Sue, Jun, Thomas Gyuchan 19 December 2019 (has links)
The fear of suffering dementia may lead to people signing an Advance Euthanasia Directive to make provision for health care decisions in the event that he/she becomes unable to make those decisions. However, Advance Euthanasia Directives are rarely adhered to in the case of dementia because the symptoms of dementia conflict with the due care criteria; a person requesting euthanasia must be able to confirm this request at time of death and must be undergoing unbearable and hopeless suffering. Once dementia has progressed, the euthanasia ‘wish’ can no longer be confirmed, and assessing suffering in a person with dementia is nearly impossible. This means that for a euthanasia request to be successful you have to perform the euthanasia early enough, while the patient is still cognitively competent. The risk in doing so is that the patient may lose years of their life that could have been full of quality. Postponing euthanasia in dementia could result in euthanasia not being possible and the person with dementia living a life that they did not want. This paper addresses how to decide what ‘on time’ is when it comes to dying with dementia through literature review, information visualisation and public debate.

Strandberg, Sofia January 2021 (has links)
This is a bachelor thesis in information design with a focus on spatial design. This study examines how history could be showcased along a national road to create identity in a town, and how quickly this communication should take place. Fagersta, the town that is being investigated, is a small mill town that has a national road that runs right through the city. The road is used daily not only by residents, but also by tourists and passers-by, as it is the main road with the most coverage in Fagersta. Since the roundabouts and refuges along the national road are empty or have older mill objects with a pre-understanding requirement in them, it does not communicate the town’s history nor its identity. How can a town's history and identity be communicated along a road when there's traffic rules and speed to consider? There is little research on the area of design and road safety as a common denominator, but research on billboards shows that if you look away from the road for more than two seconds, it affects road safety. In addition to this, experiences, storytelling and maps with different notes are examined to try to understand the complexity of information narration in a traffic situation. This is further investigated through three methods which are an external analysis, a questionnaire and a focus group. This results in a concept for the national road through Fagersta, which is embodied with an example of a re-design in a roundabout.
