L'intermédialité littéraire dans quelques récits d'Assia Djebar

Gharbi, Farah Aïcha 12 1900 (has links)
Multidiscipline has definitely marked the journey of Assia Djebar. The Algerian French writer has devoted interest in literature as well as the arts. Her infatuation with the arts hasn’t been without influence towards her writing. The fact is above all remarkable in the level of numerous explicit references, both intertextual and interdiscursive, that her stories have made their rounds in cinema, in art, in music, in photography and in mosaics. It is from these references that we hypothesize a relation to the arts, implemented in a more implicit style in Djebar’s prose, that is to say an openess to defining her poetics. Therefore, for us it is a matter of putting into place writing procedures, in the Djebarian style, which in return for their movements and changes, are capable of creating effects as well as techniques that will be used in other art forms that are generally produced. Intermediality allows us to envision this type of work. Whereas, intertextuality puts emphasis above all on texts, interdiscursivity on discourse, and interartiality on the esthetical characteristics of artistic productions ; intermediality gathers these concerns, without neglecting to consider the technical dimension inherent to the phenomena of meaning which lends shape to their semiotic subject matter.

Mirandette, Marie Claude 08 1900 (has links)
Taking its theoretical starting point from the work of Walter Moser in interartiality, this thesis explores the place and function of interatiality (relationships between the arts) in the cinema of Peter Greenaway. The Draughtsman’s Contract and Nightwatching, two films that focus on the figure of the painter and the form of the contract, are examined for the purpose of identifying and analysing some of the interartial relationships at work in them and thereby demonstrating that the interconnecting of painting, theatre and cinema in bi- and pluri-artial relationships constitutes a basic framework of “non-hierarchical interartiality” in Greenaway’s films. The conclusion is reached that reliance on interart dialogue allows the filmmaker to assume an implicit critical stance in regard to art and the artist – a “theory of art” that expresses a point of view on the artist’s role and status in society.

Desgagné-Duclos, Gabrielle 05 1900 (has links)
The tableaux vivants (“living pictures”) form a historical practice has recently been a frequent object of reappropriation in contemporary visual arts. Situated halfway between entertainment “of good taste,” theater and painting, the tableau vivant has, to some extent, an ambiguous artistic status, an ambiguity that it owes to its origins which associate it more with the amusement of the fashionable society and with amateur practice than with an artistic practice as such. Remediation (Bolter and Grusin) and interartiality (Moser) serve as operative concepts to examine and assess the relations between media and aesthetics at play in the tableau vivant, in order to elucidate its specificity as a medium and to precise the functions and the aesthetic effects of its reappropriation. Keeping our focus on the aesthetic device of the tableau (the Diderotian notion of picture), we first consider the tableau vivant as a medium through the history of its “interartial” relations – with mid-18th century theater, with turn-of- the-20th century literature and with post-1980 photography. This master’s thesis takes as its basis the analysis of Tableaux (2011, videogram, 20 min), a work by Quebecer artist Claudie Gagnon that has been presented at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal as part of the 2nd Triennale québécoise in 2011. This work borrows its form from that of the tableaux vivants and revives this citational practice by the use, most noticeably but not exclusively, of video. Then, through the analysis of three video pictures (tableaux vidéographiques) from Tableaux, we address in three operations of translation-transformation (remediation, artialization and theatricalization) the reappropriation of the tableau vivant as a strategy to generate a feeling of opacity.

Proulx, Marie-Michèle 09 1900 (has links)
Painting & beholder in the age of Diderot (1980). / During the 18th century, the story of Iphigenia and her sacrifice was an important subject and a source of creativity for both painting and theater. While Iphigénie (1674) by Jean Racine was still regularly played at the Comédie-Française, and Christoph Willibald Gluck was presenting his opera Iphigénie en Aulide (1774), many painters were also representing this story in their works. This master's thesis studies this spectacular mediation of the theme of the sacrifice of Iphigenia in the medium of painting during the 18th century. This study first looks into the antique origins of Iphigenia's myth, and then analyses the dramaturgical texts of Racine and Gluck and notes the images of the sacrifice found in the text. Secondly, a survey of the situation of theater in the 18th century makes possible to look into many aspects that come into play in the spectacular mediation of the theme: the costumes, the decor, the public, the special effects and the acting. Lastly, a case study is done to pick up the interartial character and the complex connections between painting, dramaturgical text and theatrical stage setting, and to demonstrate that their mutual influence forms a loop and not a one-sided theater-painting way of influence, as perceived by Michael Fried in Absorption and Theatricality. Painting & beholder in the age of Diderot (1980). The interartiality, as defined by Walter Moser in his article « L'interartialité: pour une archéologie de l'intermédialité » (2007), of those two domains of art is investigated with drawings and theatrical models, taken in great part from the archives of the Comédie-Française, and also with four Sacrifice d'Iphigénie, from artists of this time : François Le Moyne (1728), Carle Van Loo (1757), Jean-Bernard Restout (1760) and Jean-Baptiste François Désoria (1798).

Dodet, Cyrielle 11 1900 (has links)
In an effort to do away with an essentialist, rigid, and generic approach to poetry in dramatic works, this research looks at the relationship between poetry and drama using an intermedial methodology. By studying a sample corpus made up of textual and theatrical works, this thesis shows how the active presence of poetry is at work in theatre, thereby redefining each of the two concepts through the ways in which they interact. The first chapter traces the genealogy of intermediality within poetry and drama, and that of the dynamic connections between drama and poetry. Throughout the twentieth century, poetry and theatre have come to be seen as « hypermedia » (Kattenbelt), each of them bringing into play various types of media. Meanwhile a number of playwrights started developing dramatic poems exploring intermedial processes. This research identifies and analyses four distinct forms in the thought and works of Mallarmé and Maeterlinck, Stein and Artaud, Gauvreau and Novarina, through the transmedial poetry developed by Cocteau at the confines of drama and cinematography. With a focus on works from the turn of the twentieth to twenty-first century, the second chapter offers a theoretical approach to the dramatic poem, that seeks to bring an updated approach to interactions between drama and poetry. The dramatic poem is an intermedial apparatus that, in Ortel and Rykner's view, inextricably combines the technical, the pragmatic and the symbolic. This apparatus is characterised by its dynamic radicalism, its performativity, its focus on the value of writing as a process and the way in which it conceives of impossibility as a dramatic driving force. Analyses of textual and dramatic works by Kane, Malone, Danis, Régy and Lemoine suggest how intermedial apparatuses are triggered and the kind of aesthetic experience the dramatic poem offers to readers and viewers. Contemplating intermedial processes of poetry in theatre allows for the reframing of an interartial model in an inclusive, hospitable fashion, where all art forms are considered equal, engage in dialogue and exchange, and combine their differences towards a common object.

Chabot, Philippe 08 1900 (has links)
An overview of the theories on the point of view and on the ocularization in cinema shows that the researches were well conducted in this field of study. However, the same report cannot be done in video game. The notion of point of view has not been analyzed and theorized with the same exhaustiveness and deepening. Many gaps are still visible and the purpose of this thesis is to target some of them and to fill them. This research thus examines the points of view in video games and more specifically, those that are found within the interactive phases (cutscenes are for example excluded) in three-dimensional games. A typology of ocularization, that is to say a new categorization of the different types of visualization, is presented, analyzed and exemplified throughout this thesis. This one goes into deeper details than those already developed in the past, because it takes into account a greater variety of characteristics: anchor, positioning, mobility and control available to the player. Also, it details the impact of the various points of view on the user’s experience by focusing on two axes: aesthetic and functionality. Ultimately, this thesis allows establishing a more elaborate theory on ocularization in video game studies.
