Olsson, Robert January 2007 (has links)

This thesis examines the ways in which adaptation and vulnerability are framed in national and sectorial policy-documents dealing with expected societal impacts of climate change. By using theories of discourse and ideology, the analysis aims to find and understand important ideas and presuppositions that are explicitly or implicitly expressed in these documents in order to make possible and tangible the institutional production of policy within the potentially far-reaching problematique of climate change adaptation and vulnerability. The analysis shows that there are two main perspectives through which vulnerability and adaptation are framed; one focusing limits to societal robustness; and one contesting the institutional capacity to implement adaptations. The author understands these framings as complementarily optimizing preconceived social and economic relations, something that might, in fact, reduce the response capacity of people.

Askerdal, Karin January 2007 (has links)

Tinnerfelt, Andreas January 2007 (has links)

Swedish films are often based on the genres romance and comedy. The films dealing with relations and comedy can almost be seen as a genre of its own. The composition of the complex relation between the audience and the genre is the primary research focus of this thesis. With the teoretical ground in intertextuality, sociology and romances the thesis examines three relations in three different films. The films english titles are, Adam & Eva, Making Babies, and Double Shift. The thesis primary objective is to observe the couples relations as representations of themes related to a contemporary issues in romantic relations. According to this the foundations of the relations in the films should be understood in the light of contemporary life.
/

Moberg, Hillevi, Olsson, Maria January 2010 (has links)

The profit a company makes is dependant of its employees which means that their competence is important for the company to perform well. The middle manager has a central position in the organization and is expected to take on different roles. This probably puts a lot of demands on the middle managers and their competence. We want to contribute with a comprehension of how learning, competence and needs for competence can look at a middle management level. Furthermore we also want to find out what kind of strategy for competence development the middle managers want the company to use so their competence development can be facilitated. We used a qualitative method and got our result from nine different interviews. All the interviews were made at middle management level. Our study has showed that the organizational culture is offering the middle managers great opportunities for informal learning. The company also offers possibilities for formal learning, but a lack of clear strategy when it comes to this seems to be in the way of the competence development for the middle managers. These wishes for strategies could be obliged with, for example mentorship or creating a manual for the managers. The competencies that are demanded by the middle managers’ positions are for example social competence, competence in communication, leadership competence and the ability to build networks. We have found that there is a need for further competence development within these aspects of competencies.
/

Lindberg, Joel January 2007 (has links)

The purpose of this thesis was to study the functions that music have in relation to the formation of identity, and research how this fits into the music subject in the school environment in Sweden. My questions were; (1) what role does music has in the formation of identity? (2) how does gender stereotyped musical identities take form? (3) what is the problems or risks with music education in relation to formation of identity? (4) how does the curriculum for the Swedish school relate to the functions that music have in relation to the formation of identity? I have done an analysis on three writers who focuses on theories about music in relation to the development of identity, to give perspective to the individual’s music reality. The first one is the Swedish musicology professor Börje Stålhammar, the second one is the Norwegian music therapist and professor Even Ruud, and the third one is the Brittish music senior master Nicola Dibben. I have compare their thoughts and found a great unanimity in many aspects. I have also related their thoughts to the curriculum for the Swedish school, and found support on many points, but not all.

The Swedish curriculum calls the school a social and cultural place that both have a possibility and responsibility to strengthen the identity among the pupils. According to my writers the music has escapist, emotional and existential roles. It works as community construction and creation of a group belonging. Ruud and Dibben suggest that music also can function as a musical self biography, by recollecting and integrate life events. Dibben suggests that musical preferences are personal, and an important way to define ourselves and others. According to Dibben, gender identity is constructed through the musical activities we participate in, through the musical preferences we have and through the beliefs about what constitutes gender-appropriate musical behaviour. According to the curriculum, the school has a responsibility to work against traditional sexual stereotypes, and Ruud and Dibben suggest that music is an area in which gender roles can be explored and assumptions challenged. Stålhammar suggests that the musical identities can be contrasted to the music education in school, and create a sense of “cultural dissonance”, where the subject is viewed as unreal and unfamiliar in comparison to own experiences. Ruud is talking about the aspects of the experience of a “false self”. If children and youths are using music as a means of defining themselves and forming group identities, this means that inevitably some will form negative musical identities whilst others will form more positive musical identities. The curriculum for the music subject does not say anything about the negative identities that are the reality of the music teacher.

Herbertsson, Nicole January 2007 (has links)

Humankind has always had a changing impact on its natural environment. With an ever increasing population and an ever increasing consumption of natural resources, the impact of human activity on the natural environment have become larger and larger. Nature has in turn responded with global warming and deteriorating biodiversity and all natures signals combined have created a wake-up call for society to act. The so called Brundtland report of 1987, “Our Common Future”, introduced the concept of sustainable development. Corporations have been identified as vital to bring about the necessary solutions to the complexity of environmental problems.

This thesis concentrates on small sized businesses in Sweden and their ability and possibilities to contribute to sustainable development, by using the tool of environmental management systems. The thesis deals with both obstacles to successful environmental management systems and the potential advantages of successful performance leading to environmental, financial and social benefits. The thesis also discusses the criticism of the environmental management systems and the international ISO 14001-standard.

The outcome of this thesis shows that environmental management is an important stepping stone to contribute to sustainable development. The level of positive impact that environmental management systems can generate is entirely dependent upon the level of corporate responsibility and ambition of each company. The benefits of proactive environmental management presented in this bachelor thesis are based on both literature studies and a case study of a Swedish manufacturing company.
/

Jernberg, Marie, Keränen, Sara January 2005 (has links)

(The School Subject Physical Education and Health´s Significance to Promote Health. Physical Education for Athletics or are all the pupils of the same importance? A qualitative and quantitative research about teachers and pupils opinions of physical education and health education and the relationship between the two of them.) Umeå Universitet, Pedagogiska institutionen (Examensarbete lärarutbildning i Idrott, nr ?).

We have done this research to investigate if physical education and health education, in the subject Physical education and health, are taught to the pupils as two separate subjects – theory and practice – or if the teachers make it possible for the pupils to see the relationship between the two of them. We also wanted to know if the teachers present their own view on what it means to have good health through their teaching. The last question we were interested in finding out was towards whom the subject Physical education and health is aimed for. Are the pupils who need the most to acquire the knowledge of the subject stimulated? We chose to do our research in four schools, two with a Physical education profile and in two ordinary schools. We did a questionnaire with the pupils in one ninth grad class and carried out an interview with that class’ Physical education and health teacher. The research showed that to attain good health, according to the interviewed teachers, there must or should be interaction between physical education and health education and that there are many different factors that affect our health. Despite this it appeared in the research that the teachers do not follow their words and teach Physical education and health as two separate subjects, theory and practice. However, it seems like there is a connection between the teachers and the pupils view on health. The research showed that the pupils that are physical active in their spare time are the ones who are most positive towards the subject and thereof we, in a shortened and simple explanation, draw the conclusion that the pupils who need the Physical education and health’s knowledge the most are not the ones who get stimulated and satisfied from the lessons in Physical education and health.

Achieving integration in interdisciplinary research: Strategy or emergence? A case study of interdisciplinary research in Sweden

Sokolova, Tatyana January 2013 (has links)
The purpose of the study is to analyse an interdisciplinary research (IDR) project in order to identify whatconstitutes a strategy of integration of disciplinary insights. Through interviews, observations andanalysis of scientific articles produced by the researchers, the study explores the processes of IDR andrelates them to psychological and sociological theories of group research. The results show thatresearchers employ an emergent strategy which they design ad hoc, and which consists of certain patternsof behaviour that allow them to navigate conflict and partially integrate their insights into the problem. The study offers a number of recommendations that might be useful to take into consideration whendesigning an IDR project.

Sonority in Architecture

Chan, Yiu-Bun January 2009 (has links)
Situated between music and architecture, this thesis explores the notation, design, and performance of sound space. In the middle of the twentieth century, composers began to include spatial directives in their musical scores. They introduced a lineage of conservation, communication, and conception of spatial meaning in sound. This strategy of notation, as used by Karlheinz Stockhausen and John Cage, demonstrates a working relationship with space that is rooted in the discipline of architecture. As a synthesis of the research, installation projects build the experiential component of this thesis. The design and performance of these sound based installations amplify depth, movement, and change. These unique qualities of sound complete what other media fail to represent, and can significantly inform the ocular-centric design process in architecture. Ultimately, this investigation brings temporality into current architectural discourse by considering sound as an essential component of space. Through the act of listening, this thesis seeks to engage the sonorous layer of architecture and to enrich our experience of the world.
