Responsoria de Carlo Gesualdo = estudo do processo de ensaio e execução da obra / Responsoria of Carlo Gesualdo : study the process of rehearsal and performance

Garbuio, Rafael Luís, 1982- 17 August 2018 (has links)
Orientador: Carlos Fernando Fiorini / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Artes / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-17T18:07:35Z (GMT). This dissertation presents a work about the nine motets written by the Italian composer Carlo Gesualdo (1566 - 1613) in 1611 entitled Holy Saturday. Each piece was composed in responsorial form. This set of motets - Responsoria Tenebrae - was written for a Catholic Ceremony known as Darkness Service, or Tenebrae Officium. The purpose of this research is to prepare a series of practical proposals that will help the conductor to rehearse and to perform the work. The musical characteristics and the difficulty of this kind of composition show the necessity of a study directed to its practice, from the group choice to its public performance. To reach that objective, this research contains a historic and stylistic overview of the period and of the work of this composer, as well as of the religious service to which the piece was composed, a wide musical analysis and a final chapter with practical suggestions for rehearsal and performance / Mestrado / Praticas Interpretativas / Mestre em Música

This is a look at performative possibilities in the performance of the contemporary percussionist, with regard to scenic musical works. One of the objectives of the work was to present and discuss concepts related to Scenic Music for Percussion, with the intention of contributing to a conceptual and performative understanding. As a methodology, a bibliographical research was carried out that helped us to construct our conceptual positioning, having as analogous references some aesthetic currents of avant-garde art from the 20th century. The research also resulted in the presentation and discussion of the concepts of Martins (2015), Serale (2011), Huang (2011) and Hansen (2014) about the theme and we propose a list with different nomenclatures used by several authors to designate Scenic Music. In this way, we present our positioning regarding the conceptualization and characterization of Scenic Music for Percussion. Finally, an interpretative analysis of Frederic Rzewski's Lost and Found (1985) was carried out, taking account all the discussion prior to this analysis.

Ariane Di Tullio 30 June 2005 (has links)
A metodologia participativa, além de gerar uma autonomia dos integrantes do grupo, proporciona maiores possibilidades de continuidade do projeto e possibilita novas iniciativas de ações de conservação e educação ambiental por parte dos envolvidos / The central issue of this investigation, which was conducted in the city of São José do Rio Pardo (SP), is the incorporation of participatory approaches to developing contextualized and significant educational strategies for the community involved, thus creating opportunities for reflection, action and spread of conservationist ideas and practices. This research, therefore, aimed to plan a participatory process of developing an interpretive trail as a tool for environmental education and assess the application of such methodologies in the engagement of the local participants in the different steps of this process. Representatives from the municipal departments for Education, Culture, Tourism and Agriculture as well as representatives of non-governmental organizations, companies and students participated in the research. All of them, to a greater or lesser extent, took part in the different steps in the process of creating the interpretive trail: the early diagnosis of the place; the choice of the place and target public; the creation of the interpretive itinerary; the accomplishment and assessment of the activities involved in the visit to the trail made by secondary school students; and the assessment of the process as a whole. Since techniques of participatory rural appraisal and focus groups can provide an interactive dimension of a group, they were used for collecting data from the diagnosis and the development of the trail. Interpretive trail has been shown to be an educational strategy capable of transcending the cognitive aspects of the learning and providing students with opportunities to develop their affective aspects and skills. Thus, it can be considered as an effective tool for environmental education. Nevertheless, it should be first considered as a part of a wider process rather than a prompt educational event. The process consisted of opportunities for individual and collective reflection on the relevant environmental themes. The group life, the respect for differences, and the ability to compromise and make collective decisions were evolved. The initial interest in the theme, the personal affinities, and the previous experience some of the participants had in working group facilitated the engagement, participation and articulation. Some of the difficulties in continuing participatory projects range from the sequence of activities – when the researcher leaves the group – to changes in the political context in which they were initiated. It can explain the importance of the participation of representatives from the private and service sectors. The participatory methodology generates the autonomy of the participants, thus promoting further possibilities for continuing the project and allowing new initiatives for conservationist actions and environmental education from the participants

Fondement et représentation de la sociologie compréhensive / Basis and representations of interpretive sociology

Wang, Yun 31 January 2014 (has links)
This dissertation aims to study the basis and representations of interpretive sociology. The study on the basis allows representing all philosophical, psychological, sociological and historical elements present in the real world and mind, who can help us achieve our sociological study. Representation leads us to establish a system of thought without positively seeking causality and general laws. The meaning of life, morality, ethics, etc. related to humans not only can but also must be interpreted by the sociology, because they are not separated from human activity in the phenomena. Not to be confused with a moral apriorist, the vital idea determines that in sociological research, human life is regarded as the goal of all activities.

Närståendes upplevelser av närståendesamtal inom specialiserad palliativ slutenvård / Family members´ experiences of family conversationin specialist inpatientpalliative care units.

El Aamraoui, Naima January 2017 (has links)
Background: The palliative care aims to improve the quality of life for patients as well as their families, and to offer them support. Family members can be supported in several ways, where good communication is important to reduce uncertainties. In the course of palliative care, there will be held multiple conversations and one of these is the family conversation which is a clinical tool to communicate with the family members. Research describes this conversation as useful for healthcare professionals to relay information and planning care. There is a need for more research focused on the perspective as seen from the family members and which can further investigate which supporting function the conversation can have.Purpose: To describe family members´ expectations and experiences of a family conversation during the ongoing palliative care. Method: The study has an explorative design, where the family conversation is explored to reveal new knowledge. Fifteen individual interviews were conducted with family members after they had participated in a family conversation within specialist palliative inpatient care. The interviews were transcribed verbatim and analysed using Sally Thone's interpretive description. Results: The family members´ expectations and experiences are presented on the basis of four patterns: family members´ need to get an understanding of the situation, factors that may affect the experience of the family conversation, family members´ situation and need of support and finally family members´ councils and suggestions for the improvement of the family conversation. Family members´ expectations prior the conversation are based in an uncertainty and an unfamiliar situation. Their experiences of the family conversation were highly individual and depend on several aspects, which results in a need to individualise and adapt the conversation on the unique situation. Discussion: The result is to a certain degree discussed with the basis in the theoretical reference framework participation in the light, participation in the darkness. Family members´ involvement in research is emphasised and discussed as well as "insider research" when the study is conducted within the frame of the own setting.

(Dis)Enchanted: (Re)constructing Love and Creating Community in the

Suddeth, Shannon A. 23 June 2017 (has links)
This thesis examines a queer fan community for the television show Once Upon a Time (OUAT) that utilizes the social networking site Tumblr as their primary base of fan activity. The Swan Queen fan community is comprised of individuals that collectively support and celebrate a non-canon romantic relationship between two of the female lead characters of the show rather than the canonic, heterocentric relationships that occur between the two women and their respective male love interests. I answer two research questions in this study: First, how are members of the Swan Queen fan community developing counter narratives of love by engaging in meaning-making processes and interpretations of OUAT? And secondly, how do they talk about the purpose and importance of their narratives for themselves or the Swan Queen fan community? In order to answer my research questions, I consider how the Swan Queen fandom developed and how they convey their meaning-making strategies online. To do this, I have analyzed the Tumblr blog of one Swan Queen fan and have used their blog as a nexus between other Swan Queen fans that use the website for their fan activities. Swan Queen fans argue that the show runners of OUAT use subtextual codes within canonical storylines in an effort to queerbait the show’s queer audience members. Moreover, the show runners refute the notion that they are queerbating queer fans at all by arguing that the fans’ perceptions are baseless and that any perceived queering of the characters Emma Swan and Regina Mills is purely “unintentional.” This response has only served to alienate the show’s queer fan base further as it led to increased complaints that the show runners were gaslighting the entire queer fandom. Additionally, Swan Queen fans maintain that the show’s introduction of canonical storylines featuring romantic relationships between Regina and Robin Hood and Emma and Captain Hook are heterosexist and dangerous. The storylines between Emma and Captain Hook, queer fans argue, often promote rape culture, thus perpetuating violence against both queer and non-queer audiences through storylines grounded in fairytale concepts of “True Love” and “Happily Ever After”. As such, Swan Queen fans push back against and reject this violence through their own interpretations and counter narratives of “True Love”. In accordance with previous research, I have found that historically marginalized groups such as the queer community continue to experience widespread and often aggressive attacks by queerphobic individuals and hate groups that are intent on preserving traditionally heterocentric institutions in our society, including (but not limited to) mainstream media broadcasting. Furthermore, fandom has become institutionalized in the same manner and typically operates within hegemonic, heterocentric standards. Conversely, queer fandoms such as the Swan Queen fandom operate outside of these standards, and fans respond to antagonistic efforts to silence them or cast them in an inaccurate manner by creating close-knit social communities to combat these actions and provide a space wherein individuals are able to counter dominant narratives that serve to further marginalize them. This study elucidates how this effort may occur and questions the effect this membership has on those who participate within a queer fandom. It is imperative that such research takes place, as there are very few accounts of how queer fans navigate the complex intersection between fandom and queerness.

Discourses on ‘culture’ and ‘usability work’ in software product development

Iivari, N. (Netta) 10 May 2006 (has links)
Abstract The thesis critically examines discursive construction of ‘organizational culture’ and ‘user involvement’ in academia and in the information technology (IT) artifact product development industry. IT artifacts are perceived as texts that are written by the writer-designers and afterwards read by the reader-users. User involvement explored is indirect; ‘user surrogates’ labeled as usability specialists ‘represent the users’ in the development. Their work is labeled as ‘usability work.’ However, this work has proven to be challenging, especially in the product development context. Culture is an influential factor affecting the successes and failures of organizational change efforts. However, there is a clear lack of culture studies carried out in relation to user involvement, especially in the challenging product development context. Both ‘organizational culture’ and ‘user involvement’ are versatile concepts, and there are controversies in defining them. Therefore, this thesis first analyzes discourses on ‘organizational culture’ and ‘user involvement’ in academia. The thesis examines within what kind of discourses organizational culture has been studied, and suggested discourses within which it could be studied. Five discourses are identified. Furthermore, the thesis analyzes discursive construction of user involvement in academia. First, literature advocating indirect user involvement is reviewed. Afterwards, alternative notions of user involvement are introduced. Three academic discourses on user involvement are identified and contrasted with the discourses on organizational culture to highlight their similarities and to identify unexplored paths for future work. Finally, user involvement and its cultural context are empirically analyzed in IT artifact product development organizations by utilizing a discourse selected based on previous analysis. First, four ‘cultures of usability work’ are identified. Then, two ways usability work has been encultured in two product development organizations are outlined. In addition, five discourses on usability work are identified, and contrasted with the academic discourses on user involvement. Finally, the construction of the notions of ‘we’ and ‘the other’ is explored in the case organizations, concentrating specifically on the discourses of the ‘usability specialists’ and ‘the other.’ Some of the discourses are criticized for ‘silencing the users’ instead of ‘giving them a voice,’ and even representing ‘misuses of user involvement.’

The experiences of South African spectators at the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™

Breedt, Danie January 2013 (has links)
Purpose: The primary goal of this research study was to describe the experiences of South African spectators as it pertains to the 2010 FIFA World Cup (WC) South AfricaTM . As this study focused on spectators' experiences before, during and after the 2010 FIFA WC, three secondary goals were identified, namely to describe South African spectators' experiences prior to the 2010 FIFA WC, to describe South African spectators' experiences during the 2010 FIFA WC and to describe South African spectators' experiences after the 2010 FIFA WC. Methodology: The researcher adopted a descriptive phenomenological research position, in particular the Duquesne Phenomenological Research Method (DPRM). With reference to this study, an objective phenomenon (the 2010 FIFA WC) was primarily understood by the researcher through the participants' (South African spectators) subjective descriptions of their first-hand experience of this phenomenon. This objective phenomenon presented itself within the mind of the individual and the researcher had access to this reality through the participants' written accounts and consequent interviews. Therefore two methods of data collection was used. The notions of reduction, bracketing, and free imagination were used in order to keep the researcher's personal biases and prior knowledge from contaminating the knowledge of the objective phenomenon. Findings: From the experiences prior to the 2010 FIFA WC there were four essences that emerged. Firstly, there was a sense of anticipation in SA in the build up towards the tournament. Participants were excited about socialising with foreigners, the performance of the South African national team as well as the opportunity to showcase SA's capabilities to host such an event. The second essence that emerged was the descriptions of the atmosphere in SA. There were some mixed emotions experienced leading up to the tournament with some being excited and others feeling pessimistic about SA's ability to host the tournament successfully. Thirdly, there was a sense of companionship between the participants and their friends as well as within SA as a nation. The final essence focussed on obtaining tickets, where some found it to be a complicating process while others had a surprisingly positive experience. From the experiences during the tournament there were again four essences. Firstly, participants had mostly positive experiences of attending the live matches. Secondly, participants made mention of the impressive organisation of the event. The third essence related to the enjoyable social interactions that they experienced. The final essence was a description of their experiences of the Vuvuzelas that came to be very popular during the tournament. From the experiences after the tournament, there were four essences. The first essence describes how there was a sense of unity among SA as a nation but it seemed to have faded quite quickly after the tournament. Secondly, the participants discovered a lot about themselves during the tournament and the essence of the positive experiences of socialising was once again prevalent. Finally, the participants were impressed with the improvements in infrastructure that left a physical legacy of a “once in a lifetime” event / Dissertation (MA)--University of Pretoria, 2013. / gm2014 / Psychology / UPonly

Anatomy of Place: Ecological Citizenship in Canada's Chemical Valley

Wiebe, Sarah January 2013 (has links)
Citizens of the Aamjiwnaang First Nation fight for justice with their bodies at the frontlines of environmental catastrophe. This dissertation employs a biopolitical and interpretive analysis to examine these struggles in the polluted heart of Canada’s ‘Chemical Valley’. Drawing from a discursive analysis of situated concerns on the ground and a textual analysis of Canada’s biopolitical ‘policy ensemble’ for Indigenous citizenship, this dissertation examines how citizens and public officials respond to environmental and reproductive injustices in Aamjiwnaang. Based upon in-depth interviews with residents and policy-makers, I first document citizens of the Aamjiwnaang First Nation’s activities and practices on the ground as they cope with and navigate their health concerns and habitat. Second, I examine struggles over knowledge and the contestation over scientific expertise as the community seeks reproductive justice. Third, I contextualize citizen struggles over knowledge by discussing the power relations embedded within the ‘policy ensemble’ for Indigenous citizenship and Canadian jurisdiction for on-reserve environmental health. From an interpretive lens, inspired by Foucault’s concepts of biopower and governmentality, the dissertation develops a framework of “ecological citizenship”, which confronts biopolitics with a theoretical discussion of place to expand upon existing Canadian citizenship and environmental studies literature. I argue that reproductive justice in Aamjiwnaang cannot be separated from environmental justice, and that the concept of place is central to ongoing struggles. As such, I discuss “ecological citizenship’s double-edge”, to contend that citizens are at once bound up within disciplinary biopolitical power relations and also articulate a radical form of place-based belonging.

A moveable east : identities, borders and orders in the enlarged EU and its eastern neighbourhood

Tallis, Benjamin Caradoc January 2015 (has links)
This thesis explores EU borders and bordering in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) in the context of the 2004 EU enlargement, the 2007 extension of the Schengen zone and the 2004 Eastern Dimension of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) that, in 2009, was upgraded to the Eastern Partnership (EaP). The thesis links borders with identities and governing orders to argue that while the EU has successfully included, inter alia, Czechs and Poles, it has excluded Ukrainians sufficiently to impact negatively on their lives and on the achievement of EU goals in the neighbourhood. The de-bordering and re-bordering inherent to enlargement, Schengen, ENP and EaP have (partially) displaced CEE borders from traditional locations at state frontiers. Bordering activities still take place within the supposedly borderless Schengen zone as well as at external frontiers with neighbouring states, but the EU has also exported border practices onto the territories of its neighbours. These processes prompted the questions addressed in this thesis: where, how, why and with what effects the EU makes its borders in CEE. An analytical framework – the ‘Borderscape’ – is developed to explore the complex manifestations of post-frontier bordering and to understand its socio-political, spatial and temporal underpinnings, and the consequences that EU bordering has for identities and subjectivities, order and governance in CEE. The borderscape encompasses border features, bordering discourses and bordering practices, which are constituted by EU and national governmental actors, border security and law enforcement agencies, by civil society actors and the people who move and dwell in the region. The borderscape is tailored to the regional particularities of CEE, with specific reference to processes of post-communist transition, EU accession and the EU’s engagement with its neighbours, specifically Ukraine. The findings of the research are based on extensive, interpretive fieldwork conducted in the Czech Republic, Poland and Ukraine. The thesis shows the various sites, forms and functions of contemporary EU bordering that comprise a diverse yet connected border archipelago stretching from the Schengen interior into the Eastern neighbourhood. The EU’s bordering discourses are shown to be plural and often contradictory: notions of freedom, security and justice and the desire to benefit from sharing these with Central and Eastern Europeans are juxtaposed with narratives of fear, suspicion and narrow-minded self-interest. The EU’s Europeanised bordering practices, including Risk Analysis and the protection of both borders and migrants, have enhanced mobility for EU-Europeans (such as Czechs and Poles) who now share in the highly desirable form of order that it has created. However, the EU has also restricted mobility for Ukrainians, who are still seen as ‘Eastern-Europeans’. The borderscape betrays the EU’s internal crises of identity and confidence, which has had psycho-social exclusionary effects on Ukrainians and contributed to the politico-strategic crisis in the Eastern Neighbourhood. However this analysis also points to ways that the EU can address these issues.
