Arriagada Vergara, Denisse, Nabulya, Merisha January 2019 (has links)
In March 2017, the Government decided that the county administrative board would have an overall role over the crime prevention work at regional and local level. The purpose of this thesis was to investigate crime prevention collaboration between the county administrative board, the police and the municipality in Jönköping County, in relation to the Swedish national crime prevention boards collaboration model. As well as highlighting the possibilities and limitations that have been identified by the three involved parties. Jönköping County consists of 13 municipalities which are divided between three local police areas, Höglandet, Värnamo and Södra Vätterbygden. Earlier research highlights that there are different collaboration models and methods that should be followed to make crime prevention collaboration more effective. Through a quantitative survey as a basis and qualitative telephone interviews, this study has been able to map how the municipalities work according to the Swedish national crime prevention boards collaboration model and also found what opportunities and limitations that have been identified by the municipality, police and crime prevention coordinator. The result showed that the municipality and the police work largely according to the collaboration model and that all workers have experienced positive experiences of collaboration. In addition, the result has been able to identify some limitations that the operators encounter in their daily work. One example is that they have a shortage of resources between the various authorities, where the actors disagree on the extent to which crime prevention work should be given priority. Future studies should investigate collaboration in a larger perspective with several actors, such as the business sector and civil society.

The benefits and drawbacks of implementing chatbots in higher education : A case study for international students at Jönköping University

Lopez, Terrance, Qamber, Meer January 2022 (has links)
Background A chatbot is a type of modern computing program that uses textual or vocal interfaces to replicate human communication or "chitchat.” is widely used in many large-scale applications. The thought behind this technological advancement was to provide users with quick and instantaneous responses to questions that they would ask when conversing through email or by phone, which has been shown to boost productivity among users and lessen the time being spent on tasks. Purpose The main aim of this thesis is to investigate opinions and behaviors, in terms of perceived benefits and drawbacks, of international students on whether or not implementing a chatbot onto a university’s website can be mutually beneficial for both the university to lessen the number of incoming questions and the prospective students in their decision-making process to select their future school. Method To do this, a mockup chatbot was created with Voiceflow software. The Voiceflow software is a cutting-edge creative tool for teams focused on conversational design and product development. It has been aligned with the TAM model described in the research framework. The participants were placed in the role of prospective students searching the JU website for general and specialized information on the university's study programs, financial arrangements, apprenticeships, exchange overseas, and the enrollment procedure. Participants in the mockup are invited to imagine themselves as potential students interested in applying for a higher education degree at Jönköping University in one of five scenarios. Conclusion The findings of this research provide insights into the benefits and the drawbacks of implementing a chatbot within higher educational institutions that are actively recruiting international students with their English-taught programs, exchange programs, courses, traineeships, etc. The main conclusion of this research is that higher educational institutions such as colleges and universities should opt to implement a chatbot within their website in order to facilitate frequently asked questions that otherwise would take time, for example waiting for a representative to answer the phone and/or waiting for an email reply. When students reside in another time zone, students greatly benefit from a chatbot as it is available 24/7, in addition, having all the necessary information for international students under one roof, students are able to quickly navigate through various information that is relevant to them in a few clicks with the use of a chatbot. On the other hand, findings show that although chatbots are indeed very helpful to international students, there are some drawbacks that should be considered. Major drawbacks introduced by this research include the lack of human assistance in cases where the chatbot is unable to answer complex and/or personal questions or cases where students prefer human contact. Additionally, chatbots require round-the-clock maintenance to keep them up to date with displaying the correct information.

Erosion / Erosion

Slotte, Mikael January 2014 (has links)
Rosenlunds sandbankar is a nature reserve between Jönköping and Huskvarna eroding about 30 cm per year. It is allowed to annually shrink but not to be used. There are no major attempts to document it for future generations or to make it visible for the present. This thesis examines a natural phenomenon that will affect civilizations for thousands of years. The work is primarily aimed at reintroducing a forgotten site and describe how it changes in time and space. Using studies of erosion, land uplift, ice age and with the help of field studies the site's transformation is interpreted in photographs and a series of drawings. I propose a promenade where the geological processes that transform the site can be observed and followed. The footpath connects three terrains - sand bluff, shore and lake. The structure consists of beams and decking placed on wooden piles and gabions. In an ideal case it will exist as long as the site itself. Pillars will rot, parts of the site will be overgrown, and in the longer term, the slope will flatten out. During its life span, the structure can be used to interpret the processes and reflect the site's unique transience.

Automobilpalatset

Månsdotter, Matilda January 2014 (has links)
“Automobilpalatset” in Jönköping , designed by engineer Birger Lindstrom and built 1929-1930, was one of the first car parks in Sweden . In addition to parkingspace , there were showrooms and car sales , service and a petrol station - long before the car was a part of people's everyday lives. After threats of demolition the building was named a heritage, to be protected, in 2001.   Today, there is other business related spaces at street level , while the remaining floors are relatively empty and in very bad shape . Automobilpalatset is owned by the municipality and there is currently no plan for changes.   In my proposal I wan’t to add people to this place. Cityscape and the opinion of cars has changed since 1930. It is not reasonable in today's society to deprive a city center the potential that this buildning possesses by distorting the building and leaving it empty . It's no longer fashionable to park cars in a so-called palace. The unique architecture and context that one finds in the building ought instead to be opened up and public. To take part of this amazing place would be an experience for the visitor and allow for a more vibrant attractive cityscape. The large windows, finally lit up by residents, would change how the building is looked up-on. The building complex structures with a split-level-plan creates special situations. Flexibility and robustness as well as the industrustrial modernist values in structure , space and materiality characterizes the house. The challenge in restoring it lies in the deep volume and large dark surfaces, and in balancing between new and old.

torget, berget och den vita kuben / The square, the mountain and the white cube

Molitor, Emma January 2016 (has links)
The project is about a recently established art gallery in Österängen, a suburb to Jönköping. The main interest concern how spaces for contemporary art function and are created today. My design for Österängens art gallery is a sequence of specific environments that refers or contrasts to the white cube, the norm, and is investigating the correlation between contemporary art and architecture. The art gallery is not passive; it is an active actor in producing and selecting the art exhibited.

It's not merely a matter of potatoes : A comparative content analysis between the bread uprising in Jönköping 1855 and the hunger demonstration in Västervik 1917

Liew, David January 2022 (has links)
This thesis examined people and the motives behind their actions while participating in uprisings caused by famine and social injustice. Based on Hannah Arendts theories on uprisings and revolutions, the thesis focused on two uprisings in Sweden, the bread uprising in Jönköping 1855 and the hunger demonstration in Västervik 1917. Arendts distinction between liberty from restraint and the establishing of a constituted public freedom in a political sphere guided the research and analysis of the source material in this thesis. Both towns had undergone severe famine caused by poor harvests but most notably due to the upper classes, traders and venture capitalists exploiting the situation by purchasing the foods available in volume and exporting it or selling it for profit. The results showed several similarities regarding the motives the participants stated as causes to their participation in the uprisings. One noticeable difference that was revealed was that the participants in the hunger demonstration in Västervik 1917 held some motives higher than others: right of representation, reinstated right to vote, restored and higher income, right to 8-hour working days, long-lasting actions against poverty and political influence in decisions. This is radically different than the motives stated by the participants in the uprising of Jönköping 1855 in and of that the motives stated in the uprising in Jönköping where merely regarding the factual circumstances of the famine. Lower prices, banning buyout, exports of foods and the distilling of liquor. In no circumstance did the participant require influence in the politics or civil rights in any way; they only saw the peripheral problems and not the causes of their marginalized position in society. The results of the research turned out to be synonymous of Arendts distinction between liberty and freedom in that the participants in the uprising in Jönköping only wanted to be liberated from the temporary famine whilst the participants of the uprising in Västervik wanted to step out of the historical timeline and demand civil rights to govern themselves and gain influence in the political sphere and workplaces. The participants where exclusively working-class people, craftsmen, and people of the lower classes. The study showed that the participants of the uprising in Västervik were highly involved in working labor unions and some of them were devoted socialists. This shows that ideology likely influenced the motives of the participants in the uprising of Västervik. To sum up, research has been conducted in the field before but only regarding the uprisings separately. This thesis fills in the gap between the 62 years that separates them and contributes to the understanding of uprisings and revolution in Swedish historical research.

Anomalies in Strata

Hartmann Gyllenhammar, Anna January 2022 (has links)
We are leaving traces on the surface of earth, and have been doing so, for a long time. However, for the last 300 years or so, we seem not only to be leaving traces, but objects foreign to our system on an abnormal scale. Traces that are not obvious to the eye, but hidden behind the obviousness of the present. They can be found in the air, in the water, in the rings of the trees or in the glaciers of Greenland.  What will be left after us? In a search of time and traces, to come closer to an understanding of how time passes, I have looked into man made objects. Objects, that have been constructed with time written differently into their structures. These ideas have been implemented in a geographical focal point in the area of Rosenlund sand banks, by lake Vättern, Sweden. From an architect’s point of view I have tried to understand the present that we are now dealing with, the Anthropocene, its implications and the impact of what we create as humans. This, by reconnecting a past and a future to the present through speculation, and by letting the ground play a major part as a mute, inverted infinity with all its layers bearing witness of a past that once laid super strata.

"En historia skulle skrifvas öfver allt de få genomgå" : En analys av Ebba Ramsays bild av epileptiska barn på Wilhelmsro / "A history should be written of everything they have to go through" : An analysis of Ebba Ramsay's view of epileptic children at Wilhelmsro

Ronneland, Max January 2024 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate how the philanthropist Ebba Ramsay portrayed children with epilepsy in her writings during her time active at Wilhelmsro, an institution for children with epilepsy outside Jönköping, Sweden, from 1877 to 1915. The study is based on an analysis of 23 writings by Ramsay, where the main focus includes Ramsay's representations of the children and what insights these can provide about society's view of epilepsy and its impact on the affected children and society at this time. Bill Hughes' categorization of the basic aversive feelings on disability is used to categorize Ramsay's view of the epileptic children. The results show that Ramsay portrayed the children with a mixture of fear, pity, and disgust, often portraying epilepsy as a tragic and heavy burden for both individuals and their families. She also describes a society that is often unsympathetic and exclusionary towards these children. These representations are used to evoke compassion and support for better care and education for children with epilepsy. The final discussion highlights the relevance of Ramsay's work to the teaching of history at secondary school level, where her texts can be used to discuss how historical perspectives on illness and disability can relate to contemporary views and policies. Suggestions for future research include comparisons of Ramsay's work with other similar institutions internationally, as well as deeper studies of the gender aspects that may have influenced her work.

Produktutveckling i stadens tjänst : en explorativ studie om design av souvenirer / Product development in the city´s service : an exploratory study on the design of souvenirs

Aronsson, Cecilia, Rudenstam, Sara, Ödeen, Sofia January 2013 (has links)
It is increasingly important for cities to attract visitors, potential new residents and businesses. Jönköping is one of the cities working with place marketing, a strategy that intends to mediate a positive image of the city, in order to accomplish just that. People often have a need to preserve the memory of a trip into something tangible. Anyone visiting Jönköping encounters a souvenir choice, much like the one in many other cities. Linked to the idea of positive place marketing, our work aims to investigate how we as product developers can create a product that en¬hances the image of Jönköping based on the thought that all residents are con¬sig¬nors. Accordingly, we develop three different products from the residents' own image of the city. Our research questions are: Based on the photographs, what image of Jönköping do the ambassadors mediate of their own city? As designers, what in Jönköping's history versus the image of Jönköping today, can we seize in order to give products for visitors a sense of authenticity? As designers, how can we use knowledge of place branding in the development of souvenirs? We performed interviews within three different aspects: history, souvenirs and place branding, all focused on the city of Jönköping. The interviews and a work-shop formed the basis for the further design process. This work has resulted in three products: the matchbox Det nya Jönköping i en historisk förpackning, highlights an important part in the city's history and becomes a conversation piece. Lek dig genom Jönköping want to show visitors what the city offers, and distinguish it from others, from the on-site. Detaljerna gör staden is an every¬day object and function can get residents to begin to discover the details of their own city. Through the use of knowledge and theories of place branding and souvenirs, we would argue that we have found a way to actually catch the residents' image of the city in a number of products. We also believe that it would be able to apply this type of project in other locations to create more authentic and at the same time innovative souvenirs.
