I stadsplaneringsidealens spår : Platsidentitet, platskänsla och den fysiska miljön / In the tracks of city planning ideals : Place identity, sense of place and the built environment

Folkö, Emily January 2016 (has links)

The Gender of the Poor Relief and the Fragile Citizenship : A Comparative Study of the Poor Relief Organization in Karlstad and Kristinehamn

Lindahl, Klas January 2017 (has links)
During the nineteenth century there was a series of reforms in the Swedish poor relief system. These changes laid the basis for the Swedish social policies implemented in today’s modern society. It is also during this period of time this paper has its focus. There were specific gender roles and citizenship ideals in the society and the aim of this paper is to illustrate how these roles and ideals took place in the poor relief system as well. This will be done by a comparative study of the poor relief organization in Karlstad and Kristinehamn in the county of Värmland. When the poor relief board had meetings they kept strict protocol of the discussions and those protocols are the subject of this qualitatively interpretive study.   In this paper the study is chronologically presented from the year 1871 to 1918. Previous research shows that there were strict roles and ideals in the society and in the poor relief system as well and the material of this study shows that it comprises these two cities also. This paper shows that gender-related discrimination in fact did exist within the poor relief. The poor relief did offer some chores to the poor people in exchange for care and these chores were gender-related as well. The conclusions of this paper are based on comparison with previous research and the theoretical basis presented in the study.

Vara och Kristinehamns folkbibliotek : en jämförelse av folkbiblioteken under år 1994 / A Comparison of two Swedish public libraries -the public libraries in the rural community of Vara and the town of Kristinehamn during the year 1994

Kraft, Karin January 1997 (has links)
The aim of this essay is to try to find the differences and similarities of two public librariesin the town of Kristinehamn and the rural community of Vara during the year 1994. Especiallyinteresting was if the different political traditions of the two communities -left wing majorityin Kristinehamn and right wing in Vara- have influenced the forming of the public libraries. The comparison contains accounts from the annual reports produced by the libraries between1987 and 1994, a more thorough study of the activities and interviews with decision makers in1994. The interview with the decision makers indicates that there is a distinct difference betweenthe librarians and the rest of the informants, this distinction shows, that in a tight budgetsituation the librarians prefer not to cut down on staff while the other informants actuallyfavour to make cuts on the procedures handled by the librarians. The general opinionthough, is that they all agree that the role of the public libraries is to defend democratic rights. The final conclusion is that the material of this essay supports the opinion that the idea ofpublic libraries is stronger than the political differences in Vara and Kristinehamn.

Hägglund, Sofia, Pedersén, Anna January 2007 (has links)

Kristinehamns provisoriska generalplan : En idéanalys av den lokala fysiska planeringen, åren 1940-43 / The temporal master plan of Kristinehamn : An analysis of ideas of the local physical planning, the years 1940-43

Eriksson, Fredrik January 2009 (has links)
<p><p>The purpose of this essay is to study how the local creators of a "master plan" for the swedish city Kristinehamn, the years between 1940 to -43, looked on their planning. It is an analysis of ideas case study. A hypothesis is upheld for the research: that the local physical planning had largely extended ambitions what regards central state control in a way that is similar to planned economy. Questions that are asked include: Was the planning assumed to be a tool for the state to regulate the environment? Can the planning be seen as a mean to control the society in time and space? The essay search for verification of the hypothesis by a theoretical analysis apparatus made upp of ideal types. With four for this purpose formed types of planning, the ideal is compared with the real documents from Kristinehamn. The analysis here made can not verify the hypothesis. Instead of being a hierarchial and vertical form of planning, this reserch shows how the local planners had a more temporal and horizontal view on their effort. This result might even clarify that the intention behind the swedish welfare society, "Folkhemmet", were not as centrally planned as often assumed by critics.</p></p>

A Study of the Resistance Concerning the Establishment of a Juvenile Detention Center in Kristinehamn 2005-2007

Utter, Johan January 2008 (has links)
<p><p>Abstract</p><em><p>"Citizen Influence, Forms and Effects - A study of the Resistance Concerning the Establishment of a Juvenile Detention Center in Kristinehamn 2005-2007"</p><p>Political Science, Johan Utter</p></em><p> </p><p>This essay circles around the concepts of citizenship and the questions if and how citizens in the modern democracy can influence and effect the political decisions made by the governing body on the local level. This is done by the means of a case-study concerning the establishment of an institutional facility for convicted youths in Kristinehamn. The planning of this facility and especially its planned location in Sunneberg aroused a significant negative response from the citizens, demanding a better alternative for the location.</p><p>The proposition resulted in heavy protests from the citizens as the planned location was viewed as an important recreation area, where the citizens could experience nature first hand, close to the centre of town. As a result, some citizens living close to the planned location, formed a network called "Bevara Sunneberg", whose purpose was to influence the decision-makers and make the citizen’s voices heard. Also of interest are the classification of the resistance, by using already established theoretical models concerning interest groups, social movements and the concept of NIMBY-groups.</p><p>The results show that the citizen led by the group "Bevara Sunneberg" in fact managed to influence the decision-makers by adopting a wide variety of strategies, both by conventional and unconventional means. As the case haven’t yet been decided, the full extent of the resistance’s efforts are yet to be seen. Whether or not the planned establishment will be build, the fact remains that the resistance managed to effect the outcome of the case.</p><p>The network "Bevara Sunneberg" showed similarities to the concept of NIMBY-groups, but evolved into a form of hybrid, positioning itself somewhere between the theoretical positions of social movements and interest groups. As a conclusion I would like to state that citizen influence is possible in the local political context, though the extent of the influence can not be proved by this essay.</p><p> </p><strong><p>Key Words</p>: Citizen Influence, NIMBY-group, Political Participation, Kristinehamn, Juvenile Detention Center, Interest Group</strong></p>

Understanding of the value of the Ecosystem services for more sustainable water strategy : A case study of Water quality of the Lake Vänern in Kristinehamn Municipality

Kwizera, Prudence January 2011 (has links)
Natural resources management is one of the world‟s greatest concerns. It is a difficult task due to its complex nature. Natural resources are limited and scarce. Unfortunately and worst of all, they are under pressure, and stress due to unprecedented increase in their demand and inefficient use. But it is still possible to tackle this complex problem. This study focuses on understanding the value of the ecosystem services that human well-being depend on, as for more sustainable environment strategy on aquatic ecosystems management, such as lakes and rivers. Changing behavior and attitude can be a crucial complement and likely can stimulate our conscious effort towards saving our ecosystems beyond money contribution. This way of thinking seems to be overlooked and most people think that the development of technology and advancement in knowledge alone can provide solution. One way to overcome the problem of pressure and stressing of the environment is to develop adequate strategy and environmental policy. This policy should include economics measures where, when necessary and feasible. Since there are "no one solution and no one answer" to achieve the desired outcome of a sustainable future, it becomes necessary to adopt a multidisciplinary approach to environmental management and the understanding of the value and dynamism change of the ecosystem services. Adoption of efficient management is not enough; we have to adjust our attitude as well. To discuss this issue, the aquatic ecosystem, which the lake Vänern in Kristinehamn Municipality served as a case study.

"Many a pleasant performances had there been given" : A theatre-historical enquiry of the theatrical establishment in Kristinehamn during the long 19th century.

Andersson, Marcus January 2022 (has links)
This thesis addresses the theatrical establishment in Kristinehamn during the long 19th century, with notable focus between the years 1835-1902. The thesis seeks to identify an overall picture of the theatrical influence in the city through an understanding of theatrical occurrences during the chosen timeline. Through Pierre Bourdieu’s cultural capital, the thesis aims to uncover to whom the theatrical establishment was targeted. Finally, a comparative aspect can present itself by comparing the results with previously established theater-historical research. Thus, the thesis can add to the already existing understanding of the theatrical historical research from a local perspective.     The approach is divided amongst three different research questions, all of which has one or more methods applied to them. The methods consist of both qualitative and quantitative aspects. When comparing the local perspective with the broader, national one, an abductive method has been used to identify the similarities or differences between results. The source material has been gathered from three main sources: the collections of Linus Brodin, Kristinehamns’ image archive and theatre advertisements or reviews from local daily newspapers. Brodins’ archive consists of an assortment of different types of documents, such as plays, Bills of Sales, stock letters or posters. The advertisements have been found through computer-assisted analysis via the National Library of Sweden’s database for digitalized newspapers.     The study gave extensive results that give satisfying answers to the formed research questions. Kristinehamn constructed theatres during two different occurrences, once in 1835, which then burned to the ground during the great fire in 1893, and then later in the year 1902. The city closely follows the results of previous theatre historical research, especially when comparing the results to the nearby city of Karlstad. There are just a few exceptions when it comes to a lack of visits from certain popular directors or in how some theatre administrative boards were built up. There were plenty of traveling theatre companies that visited the city, which performed a minimum of 268 different plays throughout the research period. The most popular genre was by far different variations of comedy. There is backing evidence for the theory that Kristinehamn consisted of two different culture practicing groups, the Cultural Elite, and the Cultural Novice: though the distinctions between them from decennium to decennium are vague. The results do show a clear indication that the theatre as a medium for both entertainment and practicing got more and more accessible throughout the 19th century.
