A Amazônia na ficção de José Veríssimo e Inglês de Sousa / The Amazon in the fiction of José Veríssimo e Inglês de Sousa

Maltez, Juliano Fabricio de Oliveira 18 September 2018 (has links)
This work proposes a reading of the fictional work of José Veríssimo (1857-1916) and the Inglês de Sousa (1853-1918), specifically from the books Scenes of Amazonian Life (1886) and Amazonian Tales (1893) fiction of the Lower Amazon. We understand that the travel account made up of foreign expeditionary brought an aesthetic and discursive loan to the Amazonian narrative, such as the reports produced by scientists, through which civilization and barbarism was linked, the rediscovery of the Amazonian landscape and its legends. In addition to a more general analysis of these narratives, tracing correlation points with the travel account, for the Amazonian Life Scenes was determinant the study of the Amazon Magazine (1883-1884), in which the correlation between fiction and non-fiction can be verified , literature and history, myth and science walking side by side, resulting in the formal characteristics of \"The crime of tapuio\", for Amazonian Tales was illuminating some text of its reception, in the measure that a criticism was verified more favorable to the narratives declared historical , leaving in the background the narratives linked to the popular imagination, as was denied \"The cattle of Good damn it\", although, as other texts in Amazonian Tales reached a more refined form of the genre.

Lendas urbanas na internet: entre a ordem do discurso e o acontecimento enunciativo / Urban Legends on the Internet: between the discursive order and the enunciative event

Lopes, Carlos Renato 14 September 2007 (has links)
This thesis is dedicated to the study of the genre of narratives known as urban legends from a discursive perspective. Based on a corpus composed of messages exchanged in a virtual community on the Internet between 2005 and 2006, we aim at investigating the ways in which these narratives are situated, as utterances, between a discursive order which is marked by a certain regularity and the domain of the single event which is materialized through enunciation. We argue that urban legends, being generated in the midst of daily life and carrying elements that are part of this daily life in an acessible form - although in many cases enacting new and unexpected threats -, present themselves as narratives which reelaborate certain ancient plots of social experience into potencially varied combinations, thus enabling the multiplication of possible formulations of enunciative events within a more or less stable and recognizable structure. An emphasis on the discursive practice dimension through which the legends are materialized - their being recovered, contested, (re)contextualized in the space of such practice - reveals how those narratives are woven into a particularly heterogeneous and often polemical network, in which old social fears, anxieties and apprehensions are articulated and in which the subjects involved are confronted with their assumptions on truth and power/knowledge relations. From the analyses conducted, we conclude that the dialectical tension between regularity and uniqueness - or, more generically, between structure and event - can be found at the very basis of the discursive practices under scrutiny, manifesting itself on different levels of analysis and in a multiplicity of forms, which include the definition of the urban legend genre, the movements of archiving and updating of legends, and the identity representations that are built and re-enacted in the texts.

Den heliga kungen och den saliga änkan : en jämförande studie av två svenska helgonlegender från medeltiden / The holy king and the sacred widow : a comparative study of two Swedish saint legends from the Middle Ages

Stenbacke, Christian January 2014 (has links)
Den heliga kungen och den saliga änkan is a comparative study of the saint legend of Erik and the saint legend of Elin as they are represented each saint’s officium. The base for these comparisons is the question of what general similarities, and differences, there are as well as an immerse investigation of how these legends portray halidom and finally how the issue of femininity and manliness are portrayed through these two legends. During the thesis apparent similarities appear in how the legends are structured; a template seems to have existed in which the content of what a legend should include is stated. Erik, as well as Elin, are of noble birth and are portrayed as godly people who live bountiful and ascetic lives. They also share other common features; both Erik and Elin proceed on a mission before they encounter the enemy which ultimately leads to their martyr deaths. After their deaths various miracles takes place. Several references to the bible occur within both legends with the intention to authorize and emphasize moral virtues. One of the variations between the legends is in the way the saints die. Whereas Erik dies during battle, sword in hand, which is not a completely characteristic way to die the martyr death, Elin instead confronts her destiny with complete stoic composure. In terms on halidom, both saints are defined within the frame of a rex justus, a rightful king, as well as a vidua sancta, a holy widow who prays for her enemies before death. In the comparison between femininity and manliness typical patterns appear in which Erik is described as an energetic man, yet humble before God, whereas Elin is portrayed as fair and vestal, abstemious and virtuous, wise and unpresuming.

Preventing Toxic Behaviour through Game Mechanics

Fahlström, Josefine, Matson, Emma January 2014 (has links)
Toxic Behaviour, the phenomena where a person behaves in a way meant to intimidate or belittle another person, is an influential issue spreading across the virtual spaces that is online gaming communities. In this thesis we explore the possible correlations between Toxic Behaviour and game mechanics in online multi-player games by analyzing League of Legends (Riot Games, 2009), one of the most prominent online games currently dominating the market (Statista, 2014). We have analysed the game using a contemporary design framework used in the game industry accompanied by an ethnographical field study of the regular player base of League of Legends we have determined the most common reasons behind why these players tend to engage in Toxic Behaviour and if those reasons are connected to the game’s mechanics. Finally, we conceptualize plausible solutions based on our findings that hypothetically could decrease the amount of toxic player’s continuing engagement in Toxic Behaviour.

Hennix, Ylva January 2014 (has links)
