Andersson, Elin, Nordström, Anna January 2020 (has links)
Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine occupational therapists' experience of working with leisure activities for children and adolescents who live with functional impairments in pediatric facilities in Sweden. Method: The study was conducted with a qualitative data collection method with semi-instructed interviews through phone or skype with seven occupational therapists with experience and that are working in a pediatric facility with children and adolescents who live with functional impairments. In the analysis of the interviews a qualitative content analysis was used. Result: The results showed that leisure activities are not a prioritization according to health guidelines and that there are also other factors that prevent occupational therapists from working with leisure activities. It also appears that there are supporting factors that enable occupational therapists to find solutions of how they can work with leisure activities and that their experience is that leisure activities have a positive impact on clients weighing over the otherwise negative consequences that can arise from lack of meaningful leisure. The result showed that occupational therapists include leisure activities in information gathering, provide tips and advice and have the opportunity to use intervention that benefit both activities of daily living and leisure activities. The occupational therapists find that the clients demand for help vary depending on the diagnosis the client has. Conclusion: The Occupational therapists that are working with leisure activities experience that they have a positive effect on children and adolescents with functional impairments. And that is a topic that should be included more in occupational therapy because it promotes independence and participation in care but also in the client’s life. Occupational therapists possess the knowledge needed to be able to work and adapt leisure activities in different environments and needs.

A Content-Based Recommendation System for Leisure Activities

Rodas Britez, Marcelo Dario 23 October 2019 (has links)
People’s selection of leisure activities is a complex choice because of implicit human factors and explicit environmental factors. Satisfactory participation in leisure activities is an important task since keeping a regular active lifestyle can help to maintain and improve the wellbeing of people. Technology could help in selecting the most appropriate activities by designing and implementing activities, collecting people profiles and their preferences relations. In fact, recommendation systems, have been successfully used in the last years in similar tasks with different types of recommendation systems. This thesis aims at the design, implementation, and evaluation of recommendation systems that could help us to better understand the complex choice of selecting leisure activities. In this work, we first define an evaluation framework for different recommendations systems. Then we compare their performances using different evaluation metrics. Thus, we explore and try to better understand the user’s preferences over leisure activities. After, having a comprehensive analysis of modelling recommended items and leisure activities, we also design and implement a content-based leisure activity recommendation system to make use of a taxonomy of activities. Moreover, in the course of our research, we have collected and evaluated two datasets obtained one from the Meetup social network and the other from crowd-workers and made them available as open data sources for further evaluation in the recommendation system research community.

Racial Disparity in Social Spatiality: Usage of National Parks and Opera Attendance

Johnson, Joseph Terry 12 June 2006 (has links)
This study investigates the existence of an ethnic separation in different settings of leisure activities. I examine the relationship between race, gender, socioeconomic status, and education with respect to the usage of popular cultural activities and high cultural activities to demonstrate the racial disparity occurring in both. A literature review pertaining to the usage of outdoor recreation, as in camping and hiking evidences the influence of racism on the disparity in Non-white participation. In contrast to out-door leisure activities, literature evidences the influence of class instead of race for the disparity in indoor leisure activities. Using the 1993 General Social Survey (GSS), I am able to arrive at the conclusion that the type of leisure chosen by an ethnic group relates much less to the educational level, economic status or the place of residence as it does to the perception of the socially constructed settings.

Made available in DSpace on 2015-07-22T20:50:28Z (GMT). / The fast and intense aging of the population in Brazil and in the world seems to be a consequence of a better level of health that happens during certain phases of the existence. However, the necessity to keep the autonomy and the independence of the aged ones has a pertinent relation with their levels of physical activity. Aim: to analyse and identify the level of physical activity and associated factors, in special in the domain of the transports and leisure activities of the aged residents in the urban zone of Maceió. Methods: The applied methodology is the transverse delineation, in a population base, with a sample of 319 old people, 97 men and 222 women, the average age was 69,24 years (± 7.12 years). With a minimum value of 60 years and the maximum one of 92 years old. For evaluation of the physical activity, in special in the domain of transport and leisure, it was applied the "International Questionnaire of Physical Activity" in its long version, with the cutoff point in 150 minutes/week and for evaluation of the health, it was used the Health Scale of De Vitta (2001). The data was analysed through descriptive analysis, Fisher test and analysis of multiple regression of the predominance reason, being the level of signification adopted p <0,05. Results: 87,5% of the old people researched were classified as insufficiently active in the transport area and 76.2% were considered insufficiently in the leisure area. The physical activity in the transport, was considered insufficient, but was significant among the elders with more advanced ages, due to higher schooling and it was considered dissatisfied in the physical health, compared in the analysis, adjusted in the two models (demographic model; demographic model / perceived health). In the leisure area, the physical activity done in an insufficient form was significant among women, with advanced age, in the elders with less per capita income, while reporting the compared physical health and the auto perception of the mental health it was dissatisfied in the two adjusted models. Conclusion: the results of this study point to a high predominance of insufficiently active elders in the transport activity and in the leisure time. This study favors the achievement of new researches, with the purpose of identify the possible personal or environmental barriers for practicing the physical activity, with consequent promotion of physical activity for the elders of Maceió. / TEDE

Dobrodružství na vlnách aneb plavba radioamatérské posádky v neklidném proudu historie v letech 1945-1995 / Adventures on waves or the cruise of the amateur radio crew in the turbulent history of history in 1945-1995

Tobiška, Roman January 2019 (has links)
The thesis aim is to open an imaginary window into the world of specific activities of radio amateur enthusiasts in the period 1945-1995 from the position of perception of this hobby by its actors-radio amateurs, and by this optics to approach some aspects of metamorphic developmental transformation on the background of historical development. Observing the effects of a concurrent varied spectrum of different influences on the development of this community through the interpretation of narratively accented themes will reveal in the historical reflection the process of change in the radio amateur community. The primary concern, therefore, is to look into the transformation of the community through interpretations of narratively accented dynamic themes and, in some cases, indirectly, in some details, point out the implications of the political activity of the then hegemonic forces as its then-defining platform. Within this framework, the outline will outline not only the political-historical context in the sense of the specific interest and professional share of the radio amateur phenomenon on historical events, but also other layers of influence spectrum. By looking at their interaction with political influences, they will try to reveal the backdrop of the hobby and the many layers of this hobby through the...

The Contribution of Couple Leisure Involvement, Leisure Time and Leisure Satisfaction to Marital Satisfaction

Johnson, Heather Ann 28 July 2005 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of this study was to further clarify the relationship between couple leisure patterns and marital satisfaction by examining the contribution of joint couple leisure involvement, leisure time, and leisure satisfaction to couples' satisfaction with married life. The sample consisted of 48 married couples (N = 96). The Marital Activity Profile (MAP), a modified version of the Family Leisure Activity Profile (FLAP) was used to determine couple leisure involvement in core and balance leisure activities and leisure satisfaction. The Satisfaction With Married Life (SWML), a modified version of the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) was used to measure marital satisfaction. Blocked multiple regression analyses indicated a positive relationship between satisfaction with couple leisure and marital satisfaction, specifically satisfaction with core leisure activity patterns. Implications and recommendations for further research are discussed.

Bélair, Ghislaine 08 1900 (has links)
Leisure is a key indicator of successful geriatric rehabilitation. However, there is a need for further development of theoretical knowledge of the role of leisure. The goal of this study was to describe and analyze scientific publications addressing leisure models and to extract the most relevant aspects for the rehabilitation of the elderly. A structured bibliographical search was conducted to select the most pertinent models (n=10). These models were analyzed regarding six criteria: 1) the development process of the model, 2) concepts put forward, 3) the interactions between the various concepts, 4) there practical aspects, 5) the subsequent literature generated and 6) the compatibility with key concepts of rehabilitation. It was concluded that four of the ten models were more pertinent for geriatric rehabilitation. Each model strengths and weaknesses are examined. The most relevant concepts that emerged from all the models are: 1) leisure participation, 2) leisure and self-perception, 3) leisure motivation, 4) leisure satisfaction, 5) leisure capacities and 6) physical and social environment. It is hoped that this study will be a first step in the comprehension of the determinants, characteristics and effects of leisure in the context of geriatric rehabilitation.

It’s all about getting young people to grow, help themselves and find this enjoyable” : - A qualitative interview study on the activity-leadership in Aktivitet Förebygger

Ekelund, Cecilia January 2013 (has links)
BACKGROUND: The health promoting potential of recreational leisure activities was the starting point for the project Aktivitet Förebygger (AF) which was started up in 2009 as collaboration between the schools and the leisure activity associations in Ängelholm, in order to promote young people’s physical and mental health. In previous studies of health promotion interventions for young people, the focus was directed towards the beneficiaries of the project, i.e. the adolescents, but as the process in which health is promoted and created, is equally interesting from a health education perspective, this study focused on the leaders instead. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to highlight the activity-leadership in Aktivitet Förebygger from a didactic perspective and to answer the following questions: a) What conditions for the activity-leadership, in terms of challenges and opportunities, are expressed by the leaders in relation to the role as activity-leaders in the AF? b) What (values, skills and experiences, etc.) do the activity-leaders say they want to develop in pupils during the AF-activity and how does that relate to the promoting aspirations of the project? c) What health education strategies and methods are expressed by the leaders in relation to their own AF-activity, to achieve those values, skills and experiences? METHOD: The study was qualitative, inspired by a hermeneutical approach, and was conducted as an interview study with six activity-leaders from both athletic and esthetic activities. RESULTS: The study showed that leaders both saw AF as an opportunity to present their own activities to a wider audience as well as to do something for those young people not participating in recreational leisure activities. However, it emerged that the leaders experienced a low level of motivation, as a challenge. Moreover, it appeared that the leaders had a wide variety of health promotion aspirations, some of which were directly related to the activity, while the majority of the aspirations concerned areas that extended beyond the activity itself, such as personal development and contributing to a social network. The strategies expressed by the leaders, were somewhat unclear, but could be related to the three areas, activity environment, activity as such and to the leaders’ own leadership. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: This study provided an insight of how the activity-leaders describe their work. The health promoting aspirations expressed, focusing on activity itself, as well as on specific social skills, confirmed the results of previous studies on leadership in youth activities. The social and educative dimension of the leadership was prominent in the leaders’ narratives. The meeting between the leisure activity associations and schools were described in positive words, mainly due to the contact area created between the associations and the adolescents. For future research observational studies that illustrate how the leadership is manifested in practice was suggested, as well as both qualitative and quantitative studies that illustrate the youths’ views on the leadership and the AF-program as a whole.
