Måluppfyllelse för simundervisning i grundskolan : En kvalitativ intervjustudie av idrottslärares uppfattningar av måluppfyllelse på mellan- och högstadiet / Reaching the curricilum goals in swimming education in elementary- and secondary schools for PE teachers

Helghe, Jonas January 2022 (has links)

Lifesafety Analysis in the Building Firesafety Method

Ghosh, Gregory 07 December 2004 (has links)
"The purpose of this thesis is to demonstrate and enhance the technical basis of the procedure for evaluating lifesafety within the Building Firesafety Engineering Method (BFSEM). A framework for the analysis has been documented, but not extensively tested in a building situation. Hence, procedures to obtain the necessary input data and to evaluate that data needed to be developed. In addition, the general framework had to be tested rigorously enough to identify weaknesses. "

Hallgren, Lucas, Berglin, Ludvig January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate the causes behind accidents at the launching and recovery phase of fast rescue boats on RO/RO passenger ships between 2001 and 2014. The purpose was also to examine what the consequences may be for the crew in this type of accident. When the objective of this study was achieved, it was decided that a depression on the topic would be performed by making a statistical comparison to investigate how this types of accidents has changed since 1990-2000. The study was done as a literature study where secondary non-experimental data was used as the material for the compilation of the results. The material obtained in the form of accident summaries from the British Marine Accident Investigation Branch.  This source was chosen to be used because the previous study was based on the same commission’s statistics of accident in the result United Kingdom FRB Working Group presented in 2001. After the result in this study had been compiled and was able to present how many accidents that have occurred within the period covered, and what had caused the accidents was decided a comparison study with previous research was conducted. Comparative results of the analysis showed that the total number of accidents has decreased since the last study was conducted. From the results it can be inferred that the main reason of the accidents has decreased, probably is because the equipment used in this kind of operation has become safer.

The significance of swimming skills in Sweden : An analysis of Swedish Physical Education syllabi in regard to swimming ability in compulsory and upper secondary schools / Simkunnighetens betydelse i Sverige : En diskursanalys av kursplaner för idrott och hälsa från och med 1962 när det gäller simförmåga i grund- och gymnasieskolan

Shulika, Kateryna January 2020 (has links)
Introduction: In Sweden, it is vital that children acquire swimming ability at an early age because of the easy access to the sea, rivers, lakes, and swimming pools. Swimming ability is a life skill necessary for conducting outdoor life safely and using nature as an arena for recreation both near and in the water. Therefore, over the past century, swimming and water safety have been an essential part of the Swedish Physical Education (PE) subject to increase the likelihood that students will be able to save themselves and others from drowning. Aims: The aim of this investigation is to provide a greater understanding of the ways in which swimming ability has been described in Swedish PE syllabi for compulsory and upper secondary schools from 1962 to 2020.  Materials and methods: Discourse analysis (DA) has been used to analyze the Swedish PE syllabi from 1962 to 2020. Theoretical framework: This study is inspired in a Foucauldian genealogy perspective.  Results: Two main result categories were constructed from the analysis. (a) Swimming education has been present in all PE syllabi for compulsory school since 1962. These syllabi note that outdoor life, lifesaving, and swimming skills overlap and reinforce one another and suggest that swimming is an important part of Swedish culture. However, since 1994, the Physical Education and Health (PEH) syllabus for upper secondary school omits swimming skills from its content. (b) Swimming ability has a prominent position in the most recent (2011) PEH syllabus for elementary schools. Nevertheless, it is excluded from the 2011 PEH syllabus for upper secondary schools.Discussion Even though swimming ability is vital for safely conducting outdoor life and using nature as an arena for physical activity, as shown in the latest PEH syllabus, it has been excluded from current upper secondary education. Conclusion: The exclusion of swimming ability from upper secondary school syllabi may mean that some students, such as newly arrived students who migrate to Sweden, are denied opportunities to learn to swim and be safe close to and in the water.

Development of a GIS for sea rescue

Meyer, K. C. (Kobus Cornelius) 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MA)--Stellenbosch University, 2003. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Saving the life of another person cannot be measured in monetary terms. It is also impossible to describe the satisfactiori of carrying out a successful rescue to anybody. However, the disappointment and sense of failure when a rescue mission fails and a life is lost, is devastating. Many rescue workers, including those of the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), have experienced this overwhelming sense of failure. Rescue workers often dwell on failed rescue attempts, wishing that they could have arrived on the scene earlier or knew where to start looking for people. The fact that lives are still lost, despite the best efforts of rescue workers, points to the need to improve on life saving techniques, procedures, equipment and technology. Providing the NSRI with a workable tool to help them manage and allocate resources, plan a rescue, determine drift speed and distance or create search patterns, may one day be just enough to save one more life. With this goal in mind, a search and rescue application, called RescueView, was developed utilising ArcView 3.2a. This application was specifically designed for use by the NSRI, and it will be used as a command centre in all NRSI control rooms and for all rescue efforts.

THE CRIMINALISATION OF NGO-LED SAR OPERATIONS : A Contributing Factor Towards Crimes Against Humanity Against Migrants in Libya

Kaur, Maanpreet January 2023 (has links)
In the perilous waters of the Mediterranean Sea, migrants find themselves facing limited choices when in distress. Their options are stark: either to rely on the lifesaving efforts of Non- Governmental Organisations (NGO) aid workers conducting Search and Rescue (SAR) Operations, to be intercepted by the Libyan Coast Guard (LCG) and subsequently detained in Libya where their human rights are gravely violated, or to face the tragic fate of perishing at sea. Unfortunately, the criminalisation of SAR Operations, spearheaded by NGO aid workers, hinders the rescue of migrants, thereby exacerbating the risks they face and leaving them vulnerable to interception by the LCG. This interception, as argued in this thesis, inevitably leads to the perpetration of Crimes Against Humanity (CAH) against these vulnerable migrants. This thesis sheds light on the issue of Italy’s increasing criminalisation and vilification of humanitarian aid workers engaged in SAR missions in the Mediterranean Sea. It critically examines the consequences of such criminalisation on the lives and rights of migrants, exploring the complex dynamics between SAR Operations, interception by the LCG, and the commission of CAH. Drawing upon a comprehensive lens of interpretation that integrates legal analysis, human rights principles, and the international legal framework, this study concludes that criminalisation of SAR operations is indeed a contributing factor towards the CAH faced by migrants in Libya. Moreover, it identifies the potential liability of Italian State Officials (ISO) at the International Criminal Court (ICC) for their role in enacting legislations that effectively criminalises SAR operations.
