Exploration et exploitation, les formes d'ambidextrie organisationnelle dans l'innovation de services : le cas des prestataires de services logistiques / Exploration and exploitation, organizational ambidextry forms in service innovation : the case of logistics service providers

Kacioui-Maurin, Elodie 03 November 2011 (has links)
The research that we carry out examines the organization of incremental and radical innovations, both intra- and inter-enterprise, in the light of organizational ambidextry works (Tushman and O’Reilly, 1996, 1999; O’Reilly and Tushman, 2004; Birkinshaw and Gibson, 2004).Taking the case of logistics service provision, an industry concerned by the extensive innovation dilemma (Le Masson, Weil and Hatchuel, 2006), our research aims to study the organizational modalities implemented to innovate, but also to identify and understand the explanatory factors of the recourse to organizational ambidextry forms. Moreover, to our knowledge, no study has been performed on organizational ambidextry in the service industry. It is therefore, also about the identification of the specificities bound to the organization of innovation on service companies. To successfully achieve our research, case studies were performed with 8 Logistics Service Providers (LSP) companies. 49 interviews were carried out with the actors participating in the innovation process in each company. Secondary data (internal documentation, professional press, etc.) was also collected. The results enlighten the organizational modalities implemented to innovate in service companies and within interconnected companies for both researchers and practitioners. Our study also identifies the explanatory factors of the recourse to, and the combination of, organizational ambidextry forms. These factors are bound to the company’s characteristics as well as the characteristics of the innovation, but also to the inter-organizational relationship between the provider and its costumer.

A reference model for the application of ABC during the design of the warehouse activities : an action research at FM Logistic

Bessouat, Jeanne 08 October 2019 (has links)
Liu and Lyons 2011). / The logistics service provider (3PL) is reorganizing the activities of its warehouse to be efficient (C.-L. Liu and Lyons 2011). In fact, 3PL needs a detailed knowledge of the cost of the activities of its warehouses. The theoretical framework of this thesis lies at the intersection between warehouse, design and costs. Concerning the design of the warehouses, the selection, and especially the identification of all resources, are not much studied (S. S. Heragu et al. 2005; Gu, Goetschalckx, and McGinnis 2010). Concurrently, activity-based costing (ABC) is a cost calculation method which is little applied for obtaining warehouse costs (Pirttilä and Hautaniemi 1995). Several obstacles hinder its application, including the lack of formalization in the definition of activities (Waeytens and Bruggeman 1994).Using qualitative research within the enterprise FM Logistic, a classification of warehouse resources and a reference model of warehouse activities are proposed. The warehouse resource classification allows the identification of all the warehouse resources. The classification is then mobilised within the reference model of warehouse activities. The reference model facilitates the application of the ABC by standardizing the vocabulary to define the activities of the warehouse. The reference model is then employed for different applications, as part of the design of warehouse activities of a logistic service provider.

Foundational Research Artifacts of Cloud Logistics: Development of Selected Artifacts for Virtualizing, Categorizing and Encapsulating Resources and Services of Logistics within Reusable Modules

Glöckner, Michael 30 October 2019 (has links)
Modern logistics is strongly influenced by ongoing outsourcing. Numerous logistics service providers as stakeholders, as well as fragmented logistics networks and supply chains, result from this outsourcing and specialization on distinct core competencies. These stakeholders have to collaborate in order to enable complex supply chains. The collaboration is difficult with the inherent heterogeneity between stakeholders in terms of differing naming conventions and differing IT systems. An inadequate integration and poor communication as well as incorrect information lead to mistakes and inefficiency. One promising approach to solve these problems is the interdisciplinary paradigm of Cloud Logistics. Several parallels can be drawn between services of cloud computing and services of logistics. The paradigm of Cloud Logistics is based on these parallels and focuses on the adoption of the basic principles from cloud computing to logistics. These principles comprise the virtualization of all resources and their encapsulation within reusable modules, the so called cloud logistics services. The essential aspect of the cloud logistics paradigm is to bridge the logistics service providers' heterogeneity and differing naming conventions and IT systems with a semantic approach. The systematic literature review contained in the thesis reveals existing research gaps in the field of cloud logistics. Shortcomings are, next to others, basic aspects such as a definition and a conceptual framework to set the field of cloud logistics in context to both affecting disciplines - cloud computing and logistics. Essential explicit artifacts describing concepts and semantics of cloud logistics services are missing as well. Following a design oriented information systems research approach, the contribution of the cumulative thesis comprises the development of these mentioned essential artifacts. Especially the reusable generic ontology design patterns that semantically describe the cloud logistics services and their structuring are important contributions. Summarizing, the thesis contains a basic set of artifacts to enable the paradigm of cloud logistics. The development of a first prototype and the elaboration of an application example in the context of systematic engineering and evaluation of logistics process alternatives complement the course of the thesis.:Contents List of Figures III List of Tables V List of Abbreviations VI 1 Introduction 1 1.1 Background and Problem Statement . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2 1.2 Objective and Research Questions . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 18 1.3 Reflections on Research in IS and Logistics . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 20 1.4 Outline and Structure of the Thesis’ Contributions - Included Publications 25 2 Landscape - Conceptual 33 2.1 'Go with the Flow - Design of Cloud Logistics Service Blueprints' . . . 33 2.2 Executive Summary . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 44 3 Landscape - Technical 46 3.1 'LoSe ODP - An Ontology Design Pattern for Logistics Services' . . . . 46 3.2 Executive Summary . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 60 4 Map - Conceptual 62 4.1 'Metamodel of a Logistics Service Map' . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 62 4.2 Executive Summary . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 75 5 Map - Technical 77 5.1 'Ontological Structuring of Logistics Services' . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 77 5.2 Executive Summary . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 86 6 Service Granularity Framework 88 6.1 'How Low Should You Go? - Conceptualization of the Service Granu- larity Framework' . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 88 6.2 Executive Summary . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 106 7 Prototype 108 7.1 'Logistics Service Map Prototype' . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 108 7.2 Executive Summary . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 114 8 Application 116 8.1 'Planning of Composite Logistics Services: Model-Driven Engineering and Evaluation' . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 116 8.2 Executive Summary . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 138 9 Consolidation and Research Roadmap 140 9.1 'Towards the Conception of Cloud Logistics - Engineering and Manage- ment of Modular Cloud Logistics Services in the Context of Flexible Future Supply Chains' . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 140 9.2 Executive Summary . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 187 10 Conclusion and Future Work 189 10.1 Developed Artifacts . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 189 10.2 Summary . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 191 10.3 Implications . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 194 10.4 Limitations and Threats to Validity . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 196 10.5 Outlook and Subsequent Research Perspectives . . . . . . . . . . . . Humanitarian Logistics: The Outsourcing Collaboration with Logistics Service Providers in the UN System

Kandler, Katrin, Siller, Jennifer January 2022 (has links)
Background: Collaboration between humanitarian organisations and commercial as well as humanitarian logistics service providers has become of utmost importance when outsourcing logistics activities. Selection criteria for choosing suitable logistics service providers areessential for the success of outsourcing collaboration and disaster operations. Yet, the selection of logistics service providers and the influencing factors for the development of outsourcing collaboration have been neglected by existing literature. Thus, there is a need to generate knowledge about the correlation between collaborative outsourcing and humanitarian logistics. As the UN system is the most relevant humanitarian system for responding to disasters, this case was chosen to provide the study context. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to examine the outsourcing collaboration between humanitarian organisations and commercial as well as humanitarian logistics service providersin each of the disaster cycle phases, namely preparedness, response, and recovery. In particular, the selection criteria for collaboration with suitable logistics service providers when outsourcing logistics services within the context of the UN system are investigated. Method: This qualitative research employs an inductive single case study approach based on the context of the UN system. Data was collected and analysed through triangulating multiple data sources including semi-structured interviews, company reports and websites. Data from the different sources was compared and analysed by using a grounded analysis approach.  Conclusion: The study showed that the influence of the factors for outsourcing collaboration are closely connected to the humanitarian needs. This correlation affects the selection criteria for commercial and humanitarian logistics service providers and underlines the need to apply selection criteria for collaboration throughout the disaster cycle. The study further showed that the way of initiating collaboration substantially differs between the types of logistics service provider as it has an impact on the selection of logistics service providers.

Assessing Key Performance Indicators In Performance Measurement : A Case For Logistics Service Providers In Micro And Small Enterprises In Bangladesh

Hossain, Munira January 2022 (has links)
Purpose The aim of this thesis is to find out the perception of the usefulness of key performance indicators (KPIs) among Logistics service providers (LSP) who are in the category of Micro and Small enterprises (MSEs) companies in Dhaka and Chittagong in Bangladesh. What is the perception of the usefulness of Key performance Indicators (KPIs) among the managers of LSP MSEs in Bangladesh? Methodology The data for this thesis was collected through qualitative research techniques through semi-structured interviews with 7 LSP MSE companies In Bangladesh. Theory Theory section highlighted the challenges LSP MSE companies continuously face. With an increasing number of companies, the number of LSPS are growing at a faster pace to support those companies. LSP MSE companies have to compete more in a vibrant market for which it is crucial for them to track the performance of their company and make continual improvements. KPIs are a performance measurement tool which can help the LSP MSE companies to be more competitive in the market as business survival is one of the main priorities of these companies.  Empirical findings, Analysis and Discussion This part presents the responses from the managers of LSP MSEs and then the narratives are explained with supportive theories. Findings show a moderate level of adoption of KPIs among the companies. With the right KPIs companies are able to turn the complex matter into a simple form with KPIs. KPIs can enable the companies towards better decision making processes with a clear picture about the direction. To improve the business performance, interviewed companies perceive that on time delivery, customer order cycle time, supply chain cycle time, on time shipping rate, number of customer returns, returns on investment, paying and returning customers are the most suitable for them. With KPIs they are able to act quickly when there is a downward trend in the company. Interviewed companies assert that KPIs provide a clearer view of the overall health of the organization than other performance assessment techniques.

Improvement of Sustainability by Vertical Supply Chain Collaboration at Logistics Service Providers : - A Multiple Case Study

Heuer, Malte, Joly, Malo January 2018 (has links)
Background: Today’s organizations operate in a competitive and dynamic business environment in which the attainment of economic, social and environmental sustainability targets has become crucial for firms. Supply chain collaboration is considered as a strategic issue for the fulfillment of these targets. Thus, studies on supply chain collaboration for sustainability have increased, especially for manufacturing firms. However, there is a lack of research of the perspective of logistics service providers in this context, requesting scientific investigations. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to explore vertical supply chain collaboration between logistics service providers and their partners with regards to improving economic, environmental and social sustainability at logistics service providers. Method: Within this multiple case study and a deductive research approach, qualitative data from three logistics service providers is gathered by conducting interviews and analyzed. Firstly, each individual case is investigated by using an explanation building, and thereafter compared and generalized by means of a cross-case analysis. Findings and Conclusion: Considering the improvement of sustainability at logistics service providers, the research reveals that economic, environmental and social sustainability can be improved by vertical supply chain collaboration jointly conducted by logistics service providers and their key suppliers as well as key customers. However, strong interdependencies between the three sustainability dimensions are noticeable as they overlap in-between. Besides, the findings indicate that the executed vertical supply chain collaboration practices mostly have the potential to improve economic sustainability at logistics service providers. Environmental and social sustainability are less improved or sometimes even negatively affected.

Le rôle du prestataire de services logistiques dans l'émergence des cas de mutualisation logistique concertée : application à la relation industrie - grande distribution alimentaire en France / The role of the logistics services providers in the emergence of pooling cases : the case with the relation between manufacturers and the distribution sector, in France.

Michon, Valérie 23 October 2014 (has links)
The current thesis concerns the role of the logistic service provider in the emergence of concerted logistic pooling solutions. We identified roles of services providers and linked them with their strategic intent, their resources and competencies, and the behavior of supply chain actors (suppliers, distributors, IT services companies, consultants). This thesis is structured around three literature reviews, each of them is developed in a chapter (resources and competences and strategic management; logistic pooling, logistic service and logistic service providers), a fourth chapter on our methodology (interpretativist and hypothetico-deductive) with cases study and a qualitative methodology. In the last chapter, we present the result of our empirical study, based on eight cases from the distribution sector. We had to specify the definition of logistic pooling and found three major types: concerted logistic pooling based on "gestion partagée des approvisionnements mutualisée", a second one based on "gestion mutualisée des approvisionnements", and a last one based on "synergy". Then we built three models each of them fitted three scenarios. These scenarios helped us discover for each of them the role of the logistic service providers and the specific resources and competencies they own in each case. We develop then a matrix with the different scenarios and the kind of resources and competencies to acquire to change of scenario and become more proactive in logistic pooling. Our conclusion is that logistic service providers can have a major role to play in the development of concerted logistic pooling solutions, but they rarely take the opportunity to do so.

La maîtrise de la chaîne logistique comme support au développement des réseaux de franchise : approches stratégiques, organisationnelles et sociétales / Supply Chain control as a support to the development of franchise networks : strategic, organizational and societal approaches

Allegre, Thierry 28 November 2017 (has links)
Our doctoral research aims to bring innovative light on the supply chain in the context offranchise networks based on resource theory and stakeholder theory. As part of an explorationstrategy, research contributes to enriching the work on franchise networks in terms of the supplychain. Such an approach, hitherto little explored, makes it possible to better understand thecompetitive advantage of supply chain control for the franchise network and the role of thelogistics service provider (LSP) in the French context.
