Nature du complexe viral impliqué dans le mouvement à longue distance du virus de la jaunisse du navet / Nature of the viral complex involved in the long distance movement of Turnip yellows virusHipper, Clémence 20 September 2013 (has links)
In the project, Turnip yellows virus (TuYV) transport in the phloem was analysed. The first objective was to identify the nature of the viral complex involved in vascular movement: virions and/or ribonucleoprotein complexes. Mutant viruses were modified in the capsid protein gene to inhibit formation of virions. By analyzing their movement in different host plants, in the absence or in the presence of the wild-type capsid proteins brought in trans, we demonstrated a strong relation between virion formation and virus long-distance movement. The second objective was to identify cellular partners of the TuYV-P4 protein, a putative movement protein which is host-specific. Two proteins were identified by screening a cDNA library of A. thaliana using the yeast two hybrid technique, and their function in the virus cycle was assessed by performing sub-cellular localizations and infection of A. thaliana KO mutants.

Geometric design parameters of passenger trains for high speed and long journey.Pedro Henrique Stech 13 December 2011 (has links)
This dissertation has as main objective to guide in taking decisions for the selection of different parameters which involve the horizontal and vertical railway geometric design of high speed (HST) and long distance trains as well as theoretical concepts for describing security parameters and comfort, based on international standards. The research is developed through consultations in specialized magazines, articles, publications, standards and technical books. Due to the scarcity of data in the national language and outdated library materials, the research focuses primarily on international material. Although Brazil is a developing country with one of the highest rises in the global scene, the country has faced in recent decades serious infrastructure problems due to an uneven distribution in the area of transport, with high concentration in the road, and airports and roads operating above satisfactory capacity, resulted by a limited range of transportation alternatives. Due to the lack of investment in the railway sector, much of the Brazilian railway system became inoperative or even nonexistent, resulting in a tremendous decrease of skilled labor and academic training in this field. As a result, studies related to the railway project have also been directly impacted. In this context, it is important to rescue standards, publications, experiences and technical specifications adopted in other countries with strong tradition in railways in order to incorporate these concepts into our academic formation, which is one of the purposes of this dissertation.

The analysis of labor mobility plays a fundamental role in decision-making in public policy. The first essay addresses the issue of mobility by long and short distance, and the regional factors of attraction for workers among Brazilian microregions, by means of negative binomial model. There was the realization of the preferred destinations for workers with higher relative attractiveness, employment of workers off against, density, proportion of graduates, less crime and congestion. To model long-distance flows are oriented destinations with lower population density, lower degree of industrialization, less crime and greater relative attractiveness. Congestion proved irrelevant in the long-distance mobility. The distance appears as an inhibiting factor for mobility, regardless of the cuts away. The second essay adopts a spatial multilevel logit model in order to identify the determinants of individual and regional mobility of skilled workers in the Brazilian microregions. The results indicate that the worker seniority figures as inhibitory factor of mobility, and expected wage decrease the propensity of mobility for workers in general, though it increases the propensity of the more skilled ones. The context variables also show important to explain mobility, such as GDP per capita, proportion of workers with higher education, rate of homicide by vehicle inhabitants, degree of industrialization and net migrants.

Manipulation et propagation de photons intriqués en fréquence et étude des marches aléatoires en fréquence / Manipulation and propagation of frequency entangled photons and study of quantum random walks in the frequency domainGalmes, Batiste 14 March 2016 (has links)
This manuscript deals with a theoretical and experimental study of quantum effects taking place inthe frequency domain. On one side, we report a two photons interference experiment, where both theentanglement of the photons and their manipulation take place in the frequency domain. We showthat this interference pattern is sensitive to the dispersion of both photons and allows us to perform anonlocal dispersion cancellation. On the other side we study the implementation of a quantum walkbased on the phase modulation. We predict an interesting behavior of these quantum walks andsuggest a physical implementation.

En ce sens, alterner entre différents patterns de course serait une stratégie efficiente en trail running / Although Humans are “born” anatomically and physiologically adapted to long distances run, they are substantially exposed to various musculoskeletal overuse injuries. Trail runners sustain a high number of foot-to-ground contacts and develop severe muscle fatigue and damages. Repetitive shocks and muscle damages would reduce the runners’ tolerance to mechanical strains leading to changes in running kinematics. Minimizing musculoskeletal damages is therefore considered paramount for performance in trail running. Numerous studies highlighted that the foot strike pattern alters the localization and magnitude of the mechanical strains applied on the musculoskeletal system. The main purpose of this thesis was to study the influence of the foot strike pattern on impact and neuromuscular fatigue in trail running. Downhill sections were mainly investigated since they are the most mechanically stressful. Indeed, it was observed from this thesis’ work that, in real trail running practice, the impact intensity increases as the slope decreases, and that the neuromuscular fatigue induced by a single downhill run is as severe as the one induced by an ultratrail race that lasts several hours. Investigating the effect of the foot strike pattern adopted during a downhill trail run on fatigue, it was observed that forefoot striking increases the neuromuscular fatigue at knee extensors. However, a high variability in foot strike patterns adopted was associated to a lower neuromuscular fatigue at both knee extensors and plantar flexors. The effect of the foot strike pattern on axial and transversal shock and vibration content was also demonstrated: heel striking was correlated to a lower impact severity along the axial axis of the skeleton but a greater one along its transversal axis. The main conclusion of this thesis is that no single foot strike pattern should be universally advised due to “changing of foot strike” means “changing the localization and magnitude of the mechanical stress applied on the musculoskeletal system”. Switching between different running patterns might be an efficient strategy in trail running

[en] CHEMICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF PARTICULATE MATTER (PM10) COLLECTED IN STRATEGIC POINTS IN THE METROPOLITAN REGION OF RIO DE JANEIRO / [pt] CARACTERIZAÇÃO QUÍMICA DE MATERIAL PARTICULADO (PM10) COLETADO EM PONTOS ESTRATÉGICOS DA REGIÃO METROPOLITANA DO RIO DE JANEIROBEATRIZ SILVA AMARAL 15 May 2019 (has links)
[en] The scope of this study was to measure the concentration of metals and organic and inorganic anions in aqueous and acid extracts of PM10 samples collected in urban, industrial and rural zones of Rio de Janeiro. PM10 concentration was determined by gravimetric analysis and the organic and inorganic species in the aqueous extracts were determined by ion chromatography and total organic carbon
(TOC). The aqueous and acid extracts were analyzed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and by ICP OES (inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry), in order to determine metal content. Correlations between PM10 and metal concentrations were evaluated, considering meteorological data for each site. Results showed that the average PM10 concentrations were 36 microgram m-3; 50 microgram m-3 and 74 microgram m-3 at the rural, downtown and industrial sites, respectively. The measured PM10 concentration in the industrial site exceeded the limit allowed by the Brazilian law, which is 50 microgram m-3. While industrial area had the highest concentrations of metals, such as Fe, Zn, Al, Ti, Mn, Cr, Ni, Cd and Pb, the highest concentrations of Cu and V were found in areas with higher traffic densities. Ionic species had higher concentrations in the urban site due to the proximity to the ocean. The lowest concentrations of species from anthropogenic sources, such as sulfate, nitrate and some metals (Pb, Cr, V and Ni) were measured in the rural area. Hence, studied species concentrations are influenced by site locations, but the influence by the transportation of long distance pollutants, such as biomass burning and dust from African deserts was also observed. The acid/aqueous percentiles showed that the most efficiently extracted metals in the aqueous phase were V and Ni (greater than 45 percent) while the less efficiently extracted were Al and Fe (less than 3 percent), as expected. The aqueous fraction is important to evaluate the bioavailability of metals that are associated to damage to the human health.

An Assessment of Four Selected Communities Along the Appalachian Trail in Relation to Emile Benton Mackaye's Original Vision of Regional PlanningSchottanes, Jessica Ann 01 July 2021 (has links)
Planner, conservationist, forester, and geographer Emile Benton MacKaye envisioned a revolutionary, extensive foot trail that would promote the interaction between communities throughout the United States' distinctive eastern region. His 1921 plan for the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) focused on balancing the basic requirements for life in and out of the urban context by developing an ‘indigenous’ environment and developmental mold (Bower 1962, 372). However, almost a century has passed, and MacKaye's approach to the planning process, organization, environmental development, and the rural economy remains hidden beneath the mountain forest canopy extending from Maine to Georgia.
Four of the forty-nine designated communities in the A.T. CommunityTM program today were analyzed to determine if and which aspects of Benton MacKaye's original vision of regional planning were achieved 100 years later. On-the-ground observations were collected through informal interactions with A.T. CommunityTM Supporters, unaffiliated businesses and organizations, and locals while traveling to each of the four A.T. regions, defined by the A.T. Conservancy (ATC). It was essential to understand if the designations transformed trailside neighborhoods into outdoor recreational and social hubs and shifted community perspectives toward the Trail and the ATC.
Although most people think of the A.T. purely in terms of the opportunities it provides for outdoor and wilderness experiences, it is also perceived as a critical focus for communities' economic growth and vitality. The research reveals that the program and its complimentary ‘Supporter’ system for local businesses are ineffective. The ATC branded these trail towns. Yet, no elements of MacKaye’s vision or community improvements have truly been recognized following A.T. CommunityTM designations within the last decade. Regardless of geographic, temporal, internal, and physical aspects, this outcome was consistent in all four case study communities (Monson-ME, Harpers Ferry-Bolivar-WV, Damascus-VA, and Hot Springs-NC).

The objective of this research is to analyze the visual graphics and functionality of the four “Cuadernos de autoaprendizaje” directed at regular elementary school children on the Aprendo en casa platform, which were initially developed to be used in a physical format, but their digital formats were used as a virtual educational alternative during the State of Health Emergency caused by Covid-19. It is based on the hypothesis that the visual graphics of the “Cuadernos de autoaprendizaje” fulfills its communicative purpose, but the functionality of the digital format of the school material in the Aprendo en casa platform is interrupted due to its inadequate adaptation to virtuality, which prevents the development of educational dynamic during the learning process of children.
To achieve the development of this research, a graphic analysis of the “Cuadernos de autoaprendizaje” was carried out, interviews with experts were also carried out and the interaction between primary school children and the educational material already mentioned was analyzed.
The results show that the development of educational material aimed at children in a virtual dynamic must take into account external factors such as distractions from the environment, absence of the teacher or limitations of the children's age, which must be avoided through the development of a sufficiently interactive and graphically efficient material that captures the attention of schoolchildren and also fulfills its educational objective.
It is concluded that although the physical format of the “Cuadernos de autoaprendizaje” can work in a face-to-face dynamic, its digital format doesn’t have functional graphic tools, which interferes during the interaction of children with the material in question, thus harming their process learning. / Trabajo de investigación
