Hur skapas en effektiv riskhantering? : En studie av telekomoperatörer / How is efficient risk management obtained? : A study of Telecom operators

Dahlberg, Åsa, Hållén, Jessica January 2002 (has links)
Background: As companies are operating in more globally and complex environments, the need for risk control is accelerating. In an ever-changing environment, companies cannot merely focus on traditional risks, which include financial and insurable risks. To maintain competitiveness, companies need to extend their risk management to include all risks, traditional as well as operational and strategic risks. Purpose: The purpose is to describe and position risk management for Telecom operators, in comparison with the risk management literature, with regards to structure, processes, learning process, visions and benefits. In addition, our aim is to link risk management perspectives with the different strategies for knowledge management. Method: The approach taken is a hermeneutic case study, in which a total of 13 in-depth interviews with three different Telecom operators have been carried out. Results: The main findings are that the Telecom operators have developed their risk management to the business risk management perspective. There are some indications however that the companies are focusing on widening their risk management to the Enterprise-Wide perspective. The degree of the environments complexity, in which companies are operating, is determining the need for different risk management perspectives. To maintain their competitiveness in a highly complex environment a wider risk management perspective is needed. This includes operational and strategic risks, which are non-quantifiable. Therefore the personalization strategy is to recommend for achieving an effective risk management. A less complex environment, on the other hand, can mainly focus on the traditional risks. These risks are quantifiable, and therefore the codification strategy is to prefer.

A Business Process Performance Measure Definition System Supported By Information Technologies

Alpay Koc, Nurcan 01 January 2013 (has links) (PDF)
There is a growing interest and research on improvement of business processes as an essential part of effective quality management. Process improvement is possible with measurement and analysis of the process performance. Process performance measurement has been studied to a certain extend in the literature, and many different approaches have been developed such as Sink-Tuttle Model, Performance Measurement Matrix, SMART Pyramid, Balanced Scorecard Approach, Critical Few Method, and Performance Prism Framework. These approaches require that process owners and analysts define appropriate measures based on general guidelines for each process separately. Recently, with the advancement of information technologies, modeling and simulation of processes on a computer aided platform has become possible / standards and software support regarding such applications have been developed. Even though increasingly many organizations have been building their process models on computers, only a few manages effective use of such models for process improvement. This is partly due to difficulties in defining appropriate performance measures for the processes. The purpose of this study is to propose a method that can be used for defining performance measures of business processes easily and effectively according to specific nature of these processes. The proposed performance measure definition system is based on the idea of using generic process performance measures published by trusted business process frameworks for high level processes and adapting them for lower level ones. The system, using a search mechanism available on a computer, allows users to easily find and define appropriate performance measures for their processes. The proposed system is used for a research project management process and a creating research opportunities process of a public university and the results are discussed.

Nguyen Phuong, Nga, Yuansheng, Li January 2012 (has links)
In today’s world, project risk management has always been a complex topic, especially inconstruction industry; thus managing project risks is required as compulsory for anyconstruction project to be successful. This master thesis presents a critical analysis ofproject risk management and significant impacts of its application on the success of aspecific project’s delivery. It identifies different types of project risk managementprocesses and frameworks used by construction projects. In order to examine how risk andrisk management process is perceived in construction projects, a case study of a LeheHome reconstruction project is chosen and data collection methods of semi-structuredinterviews and questionnaires are applied. The main purpose of this thesis is to explore, describe and analyze the perceived risk management practice in Lehe Home reconstructionproject. Managing risks in Lehe Home project has been recognised as a very importantproject management process in order to achieve the project objectives in terms of time, cost, quality. The study will examine and evaluate the risk management process in specificphases of Lehe Home project and essentially analyze the empirical findings. Finally, thestudy generalizes and develops the project risk analysis and management from Lehe Homeproject and suggests for public sectors to help project managers to make better decisionsunder risky conditions.

Supply Risk Management of Automotive Suppliers : Development in a Fluctuating Environment

Staudinger, Maximilian, Günl, Marius January 2012 (has links)
Background: The implementation of procurement concepts such as JIT or singlesourcing have resulted in the emergence of new supply risks forautomotive suppliers. The economic crisis in 2008 and volatiledemand in recent years had enormous impact on the sector.Consequently, in association with lean purchasing models, newdimensions of supply risks have emerged. This creates the need forautomotive suppliers to adapt and improve their supply riskmanagement in response to the increased risk potential. There hasbeen no research on how automotive suppliers have furtherdeveloped their supply risk management recently. Purpose: The purpose is to examine how automotive suppliers have adaptedtheir supply risk management in response to the fluctuatingeconomy since 2008. Frame of reference: In this section the Kraljic matrix and the risk management processare presented. The theories lead to a synthesis including the researchquestions for fulfilling the purpose. Method: This research is based on a qualitative multiple case study. In orderto gather the necessary in-depth data, four automotive suppliersfrom Germany and Northern Europe were interviewed by theauthors. Conclusions: Automotive suppliers have clearly reacted on increasedconsequences of supply risks. The general grown awareness andsensitivity have lead to the implementation of new managementtools. Particularly the cooperation between supply chain membershas considerably intensified and contributed to a better riskreduction. Moreover, the financial stability of vendors has risen inimportance and is considered more thoroughly. All the instrumentsand methods may, however, be more powerful and efficient ifautomotive suppliers had standardized and linked them into aconsecutive process.

Performance management process at Wica Cold AB : towards an improved performance in the order-to-delivery process

Schultz, Patrik January 2009 (has links)
Thesis, civilekonomprogrammet, School of Management and Economics at Växjö University, Logistics, FE3094, spring 2009 Author: Patrik Schultz 840222 Tutor: Helena Forslund Title: Performance management process at Wica Cold – towards an improved performance in the order-to-delivery process Background: Performance measurement and the management of it have become of great importance for organizations in order to compete in today’s business environment. The performance management process at Wica Cold AB is not very well developed and they would know like to know how it can be developed in order to improve performance in the order-to-delivery process. Performance in this thesis covers the aspects of efficiency, quality, deliveries, time, flexibility and improvements. The PM-process is in this thesis seen as measures used, collection and analyzing of data and make use and take action based on the measures. How to make use of the measurement information, what should be measured and that lack of resources is an important aspect for the PM-process in SMEs like Wica are the main problems identified. Objectives: The objectives are to describe the PM-process at Wica Cold and the corresponding performance in the OTD-process. Furthermore the objectives are to find ways to develop the PM-process in order to improve performance in the OTD-process, also taking into consideration the characteristics of a SME regarding the PM-process. Methodology: This thesis is a case study and it is both descriptive and explanatory. The main scientific perspective in this thesis is the positivistic and it has a deductive approach. Data is mostly collected through semi-structured interviews. The scientific credibility is secured by interviewing employees at different positions, consider many views (theory, the benchmark study at Getinge Disinfection and the variety of data collection at Wica) and by gather all relevant information for the thesis on my hard drive. Results, conclusions: The current PM-process only has a few measures and it is not communicated to the employees very well. The performance in the order-to-delivery process is satisfying but can in many ways be improved. The PM-process can develop with some new measures and some small changes and additions in the current measures. One main aspect in this regard is to measure the amount of guarantee claims and percentage of orders delivered on time instead of only costs for backorders and guarantee claims. The measures should be published on a board on the shop floor as a way to make use and take action based on the measures. Meetings every other week should be in place to discuss ideas from employees and the value-added time. This improves performance since it highlights important aspects and common problems and a way to improve that performance can be found. The characteristics of a SME are taken into consideration for instance by limiting the amount of measures used and by making them simple and easy to collect.

En pågående inre kamp : En litteraturöversikt om upplevelsen av egenvård vid diabetes typ 2 / An ongoing inner struggle : A literature review of the experience of self-management in type 2 diabetes

Basun, Annika, Dahl, Alina January 2013 (has links)
Diskussionen knyter även an till Meleis' transitionsteori. / Background: Type 2 diabetes is a chronic disease that is increasing worldwide. The treatment is based on lifestyle-related measures that often mean a change in diet and exercise habits. Self-management in chronic illness is described as a process that is influenced by various factors. Nurses have a key role in supporting the person in this process based on each individual's needs and experiences. In order to provide adequate support, it is important to get a better understanding of the experience of self-management in type 2 diabetes. Aim: The aim was to describe the experience of self-management among people with type 2 diabetes. Methods: A literature review based on ten scientific articles. All articles were qualitative and found in the databases CINAHL and PubMed. The articles were analyzed and the similarities were highlighted and created new themes. Results: The overall theme representing the result is the experience of an inner struggle. The theme describes how self-management is experienced as a constant struggle between the disease demands and what is valuable in life. The sub-theme, the experience of integrating self-management in daily life, affects the self-management process. The remaining sub-themes describe the barriers to and facilitators of integrating self-management in daily life. Discussions: The authors discuss the difficulty of integrating new habits in life and what influences the process. The discussion includes autonomy, view of the future and the need to gain control. The discussion also relates to Meleis' Transition Theory.
