A Hindu perspective on the pedagogic significance of the relationship structure

Soni, Pravin Dayaljee 11 1900 (has links)
Observations show that antagonising and depressing relationships among individuals and communities are being experienced. In this regard, against the background of a cursory description of the Hindu life-view, the research examines a Hindu perspective on the pedagogic significance of the relationship structure by means of the phenomenological, exemplaric and historical methods. Since man is always in a situation in the world, which influences his being in the world, an attempt to analyse features of modern society in order to establish their effect on the actualisation of authentic Hindu relationships has been undertaken. Examples of these features are materialism; narcissism and hedonism; egalitarianism and globalism; technocracy; secularism and nihilism; violence and also pessimism. In order to properly understand the Hindu life-view and its relevance with regard to the child's authentic relationships, the relationship between the child and significant others, such as parents, family/relatives, other fellow human beings, educator/teacher, community, himself, objects and God, is presented from a Hindu perspective. An analysis of these relationships reveals that a pedagogic relationship structure can be identified. Relevant components of this structure, such as communication, understanding, trust, authority and religiosity are explained from a Hindu perspective. The thesis demonstrates that authentic (Hindu) relationships make it possible to determine sound education principles. In fact, it is demonstrated that authentic relationships and sound education principles are but two sides of the same coin. As such the vital role, which authentic relationship(s) plays with regard to the actualisation of education principles, is discussed from a Hindu perspective. In concluding the study, several recommendations are made. In the final analysis, it is suggested that poor and meaningless relationships can to a certain extent be seen as a response to disregard particular life-views and focus on the promotion of a global society. Sound relationships, on the other hand, can only be established and maintained by identifying norms and values in a world which has contradictory and confusing values. This means that adults and children ought to obey the demands of their life-view, especially because the relationship structure becomes pedagogically significant in terms of a particular life-view. / Educational Studies / D. Myten om nudlarna : Hur ser bilden av studenten ut?

Amid, Shanis January 2007 (has links)
This study is based on interviews with six students from Stockholm that have shared their feelings/opinions about how they experience their identity as a student. The aim of this master’s thesis is to examine how the identity of students is constructed but also how the post modern society affects the life that the students are living. With a higher demand on education and responsibility of making the right decisions, the student’s main concern is not only her studies, but also the goal to succeed in her life. The result points out that the environment which the student lives in has an influence on how the identity develops. The identity has nothing to do with the actually fact that the student studies, but with how the student acts outside the university.

Such aspects transpired / transpire the notion that society lives in a constant condition of vulnerability and, increasingly susceptible to new risks from modernity. However much that resembles the term risk is away from pollution concepts, degradation, environmental impacts or depreciation of natural resources. In other words, the risk is the probability or possibility of a disastrous event occurs, may cause loss, destruction or irreparable damage to human life and / or material goods. Thus, the terms threat, danger and disasters are interconnected, and sometimes may be mistaken or even considered risk synonymous. However, the risk study stands out with the formulation of the theory of reflexive modernity, with its cornerstone in the idea that "society threat to itself." As Beck sociologists, Giddens and Lash (2011) the developers / proponents of this theory. From this, it defined the main purpose of this dissertation, analyze the risks in modern times, and the city of Catalão, located in the extreme southeast of the state of Goiás, as a study area for understanding environmental risks through the theory of reflexive modernity. The approach method used in a predominant way, was the deductive method, but mixed with the observational method. Since the methodology was based on three steps: literature on risk and its variations, as well as reflexive modernity; field research for the identification, characterization and verification of the risks in the spatial area, through technical visits to public and private entities bodies, observation form, photographic records and geographic coordinates of collections; and finally mapping in map for the production of synthesis of the major environmental risks of the area studied. The classification adopted environmental risk is the adaptation of the model presented by Egler (1996), which divides into three follow-up, namely natural, technological and social. The city of Catalão (GO) has, in general, more risk associated with technological risks or inefficient infrastructure, as follows: two areas of risk to exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF) for overhead transmission power lines (LT) , an area the power distribution substation, such as twenty-one points by transmission antennas Mobile Phone System - Radiobases stations (ERB), three points for risk of dam breaking, three areas for risk of fire, twenty six risk points for gas stations activity, as well as risk of stretch by rail and road. Already the natural hazards present two areas of exogenous geological risk and fifteen points for hydrological risks, divided into two areas by flood, eleven by flooding and two by flood. It was concluded that the catalana society is exposed to the adverse effects discussed in the theory of reflexive modernization. It also highlights the need to prepare the Plan Risk Reduction (PMRR).

Krameriovy noviny v letech 1790 - 1793 a jejich role při utváření české národní identity / Kramerius' Newspapers in the Years 1790 - 1793 and Their Role in Shaping the Czech National Identity

Boušová, Irena January 2013 (has links)
This thesis deals with problematic of public space at the edge of modernity in Kramerius newspapers in Czech. The first part gatheres together the results from existing research literature, discusses the question of the relationship between modernity and postmodernity that leads to the theoretical and methodological background of authors approach. The second part deals with the influences that shape the final content of Kramerius' Newspapers. Newspapers are seen as part of a broader discursive network. It is also the reader, who gets a word in a process of establishing the final content. Among other, this chapter focuses on the issue of creating a community of readers and the public sphere in Bohemia in the late 18th century as a preconditon for ethnic or even the national identity. The last part concentrates on specific topics in Kramerius' Newspapers, the reporting and processing techniques, which aim is to shape the reader and his view on observed events. The work ends with a statement that Kramerius' Newspapers by the content as well as form created a wider readership community, which maintained a certain social ties and also shared a certain form of the public sphere. However, the analysis of themes and data processing techniques revealed the boundaries of this community. The community can not...

The Role and Status of Women in the Fiction of James Leslie Mitchell/Lewis Grassic Gibbon

Hunter, Sandra F.M. 04 1900 (has links)
James Leslie Mitchell's critique of modern society, a society which nurtured aggression, colonialism, religion, racism, and gender bias, was rooted in his background, experience and commitment. Being a revolutionary writer, he held progressive and visionary views, and claimed his works were propaganda, carrying messages to reshape society on ancient values and socialist principles. In his Scottish short stories (written under his pseudonym Lewis Grassie Gibbon) wives and daughters were neglected and ignored, yet forced to do menial tasks on the farm. Women in his English stories and novels were better situated and educated, taking an active role in their own development, showing determination to exercise free will and develop self-awareness, and encouraging others to emancipate themselves. A number of characters accepted atheism and Communism, and believed in Diffusionism wherein people were simple, cooperative, without malice. Undoubtedly, Mitchell/Gibbon's crowning achievement was A Scots Quair. Chris Guthrie embodied the qualities of his earlier heroines. She loved the soil but disliked the workings, preferred the accuracy of English words and deplored the crude talk of the farming communities; yet she was impelled to carry on as a farmer. Chris was married three times, widowed twice, separated once, had one son, and few friends; and lived in a croft, a manse and a boarding house. She abhorred war, favoured birth control, had a glimmering of the Golden Age, and exhibited the attitudes, beliefs and opinions of her creator. / Thesis / Master of Arts (MA)

Hledání ontologického bezpečí v médiích / Searching for an ontological security in media

Šušáková, Martina January 2016 (has links)
Aim of the thesis is to analyze the ability of media to provide a sense of ontological security to their users. Changes, related to the transformation of traditional society into a modern society caused in the opinion of Anthony Giddens a weakening of the sense of ontological security of individuals. Such an outcome was a result of the space-time distanciation and individuals opting out of social systems as an impact of some globalization processes. Mass media in the modern society work as a main factor of social integration and differentiation. The ability to construct the sense of ontological security among its recipients is attributing in the field of television studies attributed to the traditional medium, television. But some basic characteristics of television broadcast and the role of television in households have changed with a digital television transition. Employing the methods of qualitative sociological research I will analyze whether new media have the potential to substitute television in the role of providing the sense of ontological security among its users. Den svenske mannens gränsland : Manlighet, nation och modernitet i Sven Lidmans Silfverstååhlsvit

Areskoug, Linn January 2011 (has links)
This thesis deals with the nationalistic imaginary in the novels of Sven Lidman, published 1910–1913. The novels hold forth a conservative point-of-view that embraces the bourgeois ideal of masculinity and the idea of the healthy, Swedish rural way of life as opposed to the destructive metropolis. This dualism is part of a dichotomy that structures the novels. It also entails continuity/fragmentation, the Swedish/the foreign, men/women, activity/ passivity as well as masculinity/femininity and unmanliness. In the Silfverstååhl-cycle the protagonists are young men of a noble, Swedish family. They progress from lost and introspective youths to grown men who are deeply concerned with and engaged in society. They are different representatives of the Swedish man – the farmer, the business man, the explorer and the clergy man. What unites them is how their “coming of age” develops, how through trial and struggle they become stronger and prove worthy of the manly role they finally take on. This is a major principle of the bourgeois masculinity that is also closely connected to the national identity of the men. There is also an ambiguity concerning modernity. Throughout the novels a critique of modern society is formulated, that acknowledges the modern age but simultaneously takes on a prudent attitude towards modern society. There is no going back for the Swedish nation; the modern times have to be confronted. The present is very important since it is the time for scrutiny. The handling of the modern era takes place in the developing processes of the young men, who have to be careful not to get trapped in the modern whirlpool that threatens to shatter the human being. The past, the familiar and the rural anchorage that the family relation entitles, is a defense against the destructive forces of modernity. But the past is not completely beneficial. Even though the past is of major importance to the national identity of the protagonists, they have to be very careful not to delve too much into the past because of the risk of paralysis and effeminization. In the nationalistic narrative the present encapsulates the past and the future. The Swedish man has to navigate in the borderland of modernity. / De svenska författarna och kriget

[en] FACES OF THE POP POET: THE CASE OF MANOEL DE BARROS IN THE BRAZILIAN CONTEMPORARY POETRY / [pt] FACES DO POETA POP: O CASO MANOEL DE BARROS NA POESIA BRASILEIRA CONTEMPORÂNEA

MARCELA FERREIRA MEDINA DE AQUINO 13 September 2010 (has links)
[en] The contemporary society is established over the market, the efemerality and the spectacle. At the same time, and according to such state of things, the virtual reality imposes itself as a new universe in the configuration of the experience, so that literature - especially poetry - come to loose room despite ideologies and political movements towards the valorization of reading. In this context, the work of Manoel de Barros appears as an incongruity. He is the only live Brazilian poet who is a bestseller, reaching such a level of acceptance and identification from the readers part. How can a poet of modern phraseology represent a sales phenomenon? In what way and to which extent does the image of Barros goes around and is built by the public? Above all, what does that mean in the relationship between literature and society? Those questions motivate the analysis of the character and the production of Manuel de Barros, which may present hyphotesis of the poetry language resistance in the society of the spectacle.
