A Treatise on the Geometric and Electronic Structure of Clusters : Investigated by Synchrotron Radiation Based Electron SpectroscopiesLindblad, Andreas January 2008 (has links)
<p>Clusters are finite ensembles of atoms or molecules with sizes in the nanometer regime (<i>i.e.</i> nanoparticles). This thesis present results on the geometric and electronic structure of homogeneous and heterogeneous combinations of atoms and molecules. The systems have been studied with synchrotron radiation and valence, core and Auger electron spectroscopic techniques.</p><p>The first theme of the thesis is that of mixed clusters. It is shown that by varying the cluster production technique both structures that are close to that predicted by equilibrium considerations can be attained as well as far from equilibrium structures.</p><p>Electronic processes following ionization constitute the second theme. The post-collision interaction phenomenon, energy exchange between the photo- and the Auger electrons, is shown to be different in clusters of argon, krypton and xenon. A model is proposed that takes polarization screening in the final state into account. This result is of general character and should be applicable to the analysis of core level photoelectron and Auger electron spectra of insulating and semi-conducting bulk materials as well.</p><p>Interatomic Coloumbic Decay is a process that can occur in the condensed phases of weakly bonded systems. Results on the time-scale of the process in Ne clusters and mixed Ar/Ne clusters are herein discussed, as well observations of resonant contributions to the process. In analogy to Auger <i>vis-à-vis</i> Resonant Auger it is found that to the ICD process there is a corresponding Resonant ICD process possible. This has later been observed in other systems and by theoretical calculations as well in subsequent works by other groups.</p><p>Delocalization of dicationic valence final states in the hydrogen bonded ammonia clusters and aqueous ammonia has also been investigated by Auger electron spectroscopy. With those results it was possible to assign a previously observed feature in the Auger electron spectrum of solid ammonia.</p>

Both Temple and Tomb is a dissertation in two parts. The first part is an examination and analysis of a collection of 'colonial' sculptures on permanent display in the Royal Museum of Central Africa in Tervuren Belgium. The second part is a reflection on the author's own paintings, drawings and film and an examination of the critical potential of these images in challenging the colonial narratives of the RMCA.
Part I presents two arguments. The first is that European aesthetic codes have been used to legitimize the conquest of the Congo and to award sanction to a voyeuristic gaze. The second is that the organization of the sculptures of Africans (and European females) into carefully managed spaces and relationships results in the creation of erotically-charged formations that are intended to afford pleasure to male European spectators.
Part II examines the strategies used in Re-Turning the Shadows to disrupt (neo)colonial patterns of viewing that have become ritual and 'naturalized'. This thesis deals with monitoring the occurrence of crayfish in selected river basins in the western Bohemia, considering the human impact on freshwater ecosystems and his influence on crayfish and other aquatic organisms. The selected river basin territory was Úhlava, Úslava and Otava. In the localities, numerical and species-wise representation of crayfish was monitored by finding data from the Agency for Nature Conservation and Landscape of Czech Republic database. The flow and environment characteristics were also monitored. This thesis focuses on water quality in streams of selected major river basins, Úhlava, Úslava and Otava rivers in the period from 2006 to 2011. Results of the findings show a sympatric occurrence of original species, stone crayfish (Austropotamobius torrentium), noble crayfish (Astacus astacus) and part of the original danube crayfish (Astacus leptodactylus) with invasively spreading species of spiny-cheek crayfish (Orconectes limosus) and signal crayfish (Pacifastacus leniusculus). With respect to this fact, the sensitivity of spiny-cheek crayfish (Orconectes limosus) and signal crayfish (Pacifastacus leniusculus) are evaluated in a form of own test results on acute toxicity. The thesis compared current results of occurrence and the protection of crayfish in the Czech Republic and abroad. The conclusion of this thesis is a proposal of a freshwater biomonitoring system, using the crayfish.

Dans ce travail de thèse, la synthèse de nanoparticules d'argent (Ag) est réalisée par une méthode simple, efficace et rapide basée sur la réduction du nitrate d'argent (AgNO3) dans un milieu organique (éthanol) sous chauffage par irradiation micro-ondes (MW) pendant quelques secondes en présence d'une émulsion aqueuse de copolymère latex. Les expériences ont été effectuées soit de manière séquentielle en faisant varier les paramètres expérimentaux les uns après les autres (approche classique) ou bien en moyennant la méthodologie des plans d'expérience qui sert à varier simultanément ces conditions expérimentales dans le but à la fois d'optimiser et d'évaluer l'impact de ces facteurs sur les propriétés physico-chimiques des particules produites. L'objectif est d'arriver à préparer un maximum de concentration en nanoparticules d'argent avec un minimum de concentration en copolymère latex et en AgNO3. Les nanoparticules préparées sont trouvées extrêmement stables en solution colloïdale avec des distributions de taille très étroites, ce qui confirme la qualité élevée et le diamètre uniforme des nanoparticules obtenues par l'approche de synthèse micro-ondes. Ceci pourrait être probablement dû à l'effet de stabilisation produit par les molécules du latex, qui est un bon environnement pour contrôler efficacement la croissance de nanoparticules métalliques d'argent. En tant que principal objectif d'une telle réalisation de la synthèse de nanoparticules d'argent par la méthode MW ouvre la voie à l'exploitation d'effets plasmoniques de surface dans des réactions photocatalytiques en utilisant des structures semi-conductrices bien définies (Bi2O3, In2O3, TiO2...). / In this thesis work, the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (Ag) is carried out by a simple, efficient and fast method based on the reduction of silver nitrate (AgNO3) in an organic medium (ethanol) under heating by micro irradiation (MW) for a few seconds in the presence of an aqueous emulsion of latex copolymer. The experiments were performed either by varying the experimental parameters one after the other (classical approach) or by means of the experimental design methodology which serves to vary simultaneously these experimental conditions in order to both optimize and evaluate the impact of these factors on the physicochemical properties of the nanoparticles. The main goal is to prepare a maximum concentration of silver nanoparticles with a minimum concentration of latex copolymer and AgNO3. The prepared nanoparticles were found to be extremely stable in colloidal solution with very narrow size distributions, which confirms the high quality and the uniform diameter of the nanoparticles obtained by the microwave synthesis approach. This could possibly be due to the stabilizing effect produced by the latex molecules, which is a good environment for effectively controlling the growth of metallic silver nanoparticles. As the main objective of such realization of the silver nanoparticle synthesis by the MW method opens the way to the exploration of surface plasmonic effects in photocatalytic reactions using well-defined semiconducting structures (Bi2O3 , In2O3, TiO2 ...).

My thesis follows up life and work of Bohumil Schweigstill, teacher and puppeteer living in First Republic of Czechoslovakia. First chapter is about social situation in Příbram, about his childhood and studies in this famous mining area. Then it focuses on the beginning of his career as a teacher at Klatovsko and subsequent move to Prague, where until the end of the 30s of the 20th century has taught at several schools. Thesis then makes a closer look at his puppeteering work in Prague theater in Vladislavova street and theatre in the garden of Kinský, monitors normal operation of both theatres, structure of performances, ensemble and repertoire. Stand-alone chapter is devoted to Schweigstill's dramas and its benefit for forms of puppet - Punch, because he was one of the first to come up with a brand new concept. The final chapter then examines his tenure at the magazine Little Reader and Heart, as well as end of his life, where despite leaving both of its own puppet theaters, he didin't hesitate to help other amateur and professional theatre groups, and finally the overall contribution that Schweigstill's playwright and theatrical activity had. Stratified Polynesia : A GIS-based study of prehistoric settlements in Samoa and Rapa NuiHåkansson, Olof January 2017 (has links)
The overall objective of this study is, to understand how the prehistoric individual experienced her “being in the world”. This is done by examining the spatial relationships of prehistoric remains in order to understand hierarchies. The foundation of the thesis is constructed by using data from the prehistoric settlement of Letolo in Samoa (Independent State of Samoa) in West-Polynesia and Hanga Ho´onu on Rapa Nui (Easter Island) in East-Polynesia. These data are stored and analysed in a Geographical Information System (GIS). In the Samoan case the intention is to make previously unpublished surveys available. An aim is to develop a method to interpret social information from the spatial relations of built structures. It is questioned if it is possible to interpret the degree of hierarchy in a prehistoric society only from the spatial relations of features. It is concluded that such an inquiry needs to be paired with preunderstanding and analogies, such as ethnohistorical data, since it otherwise is problematic to ascribe meaning to different built structures. The thesis uses ethnohistory for preunderstanding and analogy. The thesis further examines the worldviews and structures that are shown in the repeated practice of groups in the two settlements. / Det övergripande syftet med föreliggande studie är att komma närmare den förhistoriska människans upplevelse av varat, att komma närmare hennes upplevelse av att finnas till i världen. Detta görs genom att undersöka fornlämningars spatiala relationer för att förstå hierarkier. I uppsatsen redovisas två databaser och Geografiska Informationssystem som har konstruerats utifrån fornlämningsdata från förhistoriska bosättningar på Samoa i västpolynesien och Rapa Nui i östpolynesien. På Samoa är det Letolodalen på ön Savai´i som undersöks, och på Rapa Nui är det Hanga Ho´onu vid La Pérouse-bukten som undersöks. Uppsatsen ämnar tillgängliggöra opublicerade inventeringar av Letolo på Samoa. En intention är att utarbeta specifika kriterier för att utläsa social information från den spatiala utbredningen av fornlämningar. Arbetet ifrågasätter om det är möjligt att läsa ut graden av hierarki i ett förhistoriskt samhälle utifrån de spatiala relationerna mellan fornlämningar. Svaret är att det går om analogier och förförståelse används då det annars är problematiskt att tillskriva mening till fornlämningar. Eftersom Polynesien är väl dokumenterat utifrån ett etnohistoriskt perspektiv används analogier och förförståelse från dessa berättelser. I uppsatsen undersöks vidare mentala världar och strukturer som visar sig i gruppers upprepade praktiker i de två bosättningarna.

The intention of this work is to monitor changes significant natural place - the Giant Mountains Heidelberg / Zaly in the 19th century, when the topographical point in the country without national or sacred past, becoming a symbolic place of memory, based on an analysis of available sources to determine which social "entities "the creation of this symbolic" construct "involved. The culmination of this symbolic metamorphosis in the place of memory was the construction of the observation tower atop Czech tourists in the nineties, who within the nationalist "rivalry" between the Czech and German tourist organizations of "dominating the hill" reluctant to use toponomastic arguments interpreting the origin of the Czech name of the mountain, that, however, not based on the real facts, but only on certain notions of local "culture of remembrance". These ideas survived and were kept for centuries in memories as a myth a symbolic level the collective memory of the local ethnic (Czech) population during the 19th century, and spread thanks to a first layer of civil servants-topographers and later mainly due to expansion of tourist clubs. <div>When, each holiday season, William Shakespeare’s newest plays were presented for King James I of England and his court, they shared the stage with propagandistic performances and ceremonies intended to glorify the monarch and legitimate his political ideals. Between 1608 and 1613, however, the King’s son, Prince Henry Frederick, sought to use the court stage to advance his own, oppositional ideology. By examining the entertainments through which James and Henry openly competed to control this crucial mythmaking mechanism, the present investigation recreates the increasingly unstable conditions surrounding and transforming each of Shakespeare’s last plays as they were first performed at court. I demonstrate that, once read in their original courtly contexts, these plays speak directly to each stage of that escalating rivalry and interrogate the power of ceremonial display, the relationship between fiction and statecraft, and the destabilization of monarchically imposed meaning, just as they would have then.<br></div>
