Homotopické struktury v algebře, geometrii a matematické fyzice / Homotopické struktury v algebře, geometrii a matematické fyzice

Černohorská, Eva January 2011 (has links)
Title: Homotopic structures in algebra, geometry and mathematical physics Author: Eva Černohorská Department: Mathematical Institute of Charles University Supervisor: RNDr. Martin Markl, DrSc., Institute of Mathematics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, Mathematical Institute of Charles University Abstract: The aim of this thesis was to generalize the result that associative algebras on finite dimensional vector spaces can be described using differentials on free algebras. This result is limited by the duality of vector spaces. If we assume that the underlying space has a linear topology, then we can use the duality between discrete and linearly compact (profinite) vector spaces. To generalize the notion of an algebra, we need to recall the completed tensor product on linear vector spaces. Since this topics does not seem to be sufficiently covered by the literature, this thesis could serve also as a comprehensive text on linear vector spaces and their completed tensor products. We prove that also A∞ structures on linearly compact vector spaces could be represented by differentials on a free algebra. Keywords: Strongly homotopy associative algebra, linear topological vector space, Pontryagin duality, completed tensor product, differential

"Vývoj fenoménu dvojnictví ve viktoriánské literatuře". / "Faces of the Victorian Double: Development of the Doppelganger in the British Literature of the Nineteenth Century"

Macura, Michal January 2013 (has links)
English abstract To understand why the doppelgänger, or the phenomenon of double personality, developed such literary presence in the fin-de-siècle Victorian Britain we must look to the dramatic social changes which had taken place since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, as well as to the nascent science of psychology and its preoccupation with the subconscious in relation to consciousness. The doppelgänger typically emerges where one component of personality is suppressed due to supra-individual requirements and expectations. The doppelgänger is, therefore, closely linked to its environment. It is not so much a literary figure as an intense dialectical relationship between two sides of personality. The doppelgänger frequently constitutes a flight from the conscience, which in itself is a social construct. Both Dr Jekyll and Dorian Gray are fully conscious of the possibilities open to them through their alter egos - they may ignore the dictates of the public opinion as well as other institutions whose goal is effect a certain degree of conformity in society. The doppelgänger enables the subject to realise its unconscious ambitions. The doppelgänger may also be analysed in the context of the artist and their creation. Dorian Gray, Lord Henry Wotton, Basil Hallward and Dorian's portrait, leaving aside...

Svět Arltových povídek / The world of Arlt's tales

Bláhová, Tereza January 2013 (has links)
The main focus of this thesis is the interpretation of the view of the world in two of the short stories of Argentinean writer Roberto Arlt. The thesis is based on essay of the foundation, evolution and theory of short story. Both the global point of view and the perspectives of Hispano-American authors Horacio Quiroga, Julio Cortázar and Jorge Luis Borges are considered. In addition, this work describes Argentinean society at the turn of the 19th into the 20th century, the society being the main period of Arlt's pieces. The context of the literature in Buenos Aires in the 1920s and 1930s is also described to introduce the writer's position among his contemporaries. A brief introduction of Roberto Arlt's biography and writings is included as background. All of these factors are addressed in the analysis of the short stories "The Little Hunchback" and "Ester Primavera." The analysis is targeted at the style and method used to create the short stories and about the acts and life situations of its characters. Arlt's integration of lower social class and colloquial language in literature, his interest in the individual existence, and the gradual elimination of the boundary between reality and fiction, inspired many writers of the following generation.

Propriedades fora do equilíbrio do plasma de quarks e glúons fortemente acoplado / Far-from-equilibrium properties of the strongly coupled quark-gluon plasma

Critelli, Renato Anselmo Júdica 23 May 2019 (has links)
Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) is the fundamental theory that governs the strong interaction, whose fundamental particles are quarks and gluons. In terms of energy scales, QCD is characterized by asymptotic freedom (approximately free quarks and gluons) and color confinement (quarks and gluons confined inside hadrons), where the former can be treated perturbatively and the latter is an intrinsic non-perturbative phenomenon. At finite temperature, hadronic matter undergoes a crossover phase transition from a gas of hadrons to the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) as the temperature increases. Near the crossover, where hadrons ``melt\'\' to release quarks and gluons, QCD is in its non-perturbative regime and the QGP is strongly coupled, posing great challenges for analytical studies. The so-called AdS/CFT duality, also known as holography, comes to offer a unique opportunity to study the QGP by providing a map between strongly coupled theories (which are generally very hard to solve) and a classical theory of gravity. On the experimental front, the study of the QGP is carried out in particle accelerators by colliding ultrarelativistic heavy ions. In these experiments, the QGP created undergoes rapid expansion and there is a very intricate interplay between soft and hard scales, from initial conditions to final the stream of particles. This scenario makes it evident that one must understand the QGP also out of equilibrium. Fortunately, holography is well suited for this task. By solving the time dependent Einstein\'s equations, using general techniques previously employed in numerical general relativity, one can study non-equilibrium phenomena of strongly coupled plasmas. Furthermore, the QCD phase diagram on the (T,mu_B) plane, where T is the temperature and mu_B the baryon chemical potential, remains largely unknown due to its non-perturbative aspects. In particular, it is conjectured the existence of a critical point delimiting the crossover region from the first order phase transition. Motivated by these facts, this thesis employs holography to analyze the role of the critical point on far-from-equilibrium dynamics. For instance, it is investigated how the critical point affects the time that it takes for a strongly coupled plasma to display hydrodynamic behavior starting from a far-from-equilibrium initial state.

Innovation technologique duale : une analyse en termes d'influence et de cohérence / Dual technological innovation : an analysis in terms of influence and coherence

Meunier, Francois-Xavier 15 September 2017 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is the treatment of technological innovation with a systemic approach of the concept of duality and a methodology for evaluating the dual-use potential of technologies. The empirical work is based on the systematic analysis of the knowledge production within large companies with a defense activity. The first part deals with technological transfers between the civil area and the defense area. The concept of duality is looked through the Dual Innovation System (DIS), which embraces in a coherent framework all the components of duality (technological, but also organizational and market, etc.). The study of knowledge diffusion within the SDI allows the assessment of dual-use potential of technologies. In the second part, this framework of analysis is applied to the largest innovative companies in the field of defense. The analysis of the patent portfolios of these firms reveals the interdependencies that define the synergistic knowledge sets known as Technological Knowledge Systems (TKS). It is the dual-use potential of the 26 SCT as defined, which is subsequently evaluated using technological coherence tools and those of economic dominance.

Uma introdução à Cp (X) / An introduction on Cp(X)

Maués, Bartira 13 April 2015 (has links)
In this work we study some properties of the space of continuous functions endowed with the topology of pointwise convergence. We begin by studying the space Cp(X) in general terms, verifying that the main topological properties are valid in Cp(X), using duality theorems between X and Cp(X). Next we study the relationship between the topological structure of X and the algebraic as well as topological structure of Cp(X), in which the Nagata theorem theorem is essential. We observe some properties of X, which are preserved by l-equivalence or t-equivalence, i.e., which are respectively determined either by the linear topological structure of Cp(X) or by its topological one. Finally we study in which conditions Cp(X) is a Lindelöf space. We conclude with the proof of Okunev that the Lindelöf number of Cp(X) is equal to the Lindelöf number of Cp(X)xCp(X), for strongly zero-dimensional spaces X.

This result became known as Alexanders torus theorem. In this dissertation we are detailing the proof of this theorem made in[25] which is different from the demonstration presented in[1]. Probabilidade de detecção de um gap de rapidez na produção do boson de Higgs / Probability of detecting a rapidity gap in the production of the Higgs boson

Lungov, Thais Scattolini Lorena 11 September 1995 (has links)
The gap survival probability for a higgs boson produced by W fusion at the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) is analyzed through Monte Carlo simulation. The possibility of distinguishing between two higgs production mechanisms, W and gluon fusion is studied using Monte Carlo simulation. The two different models for non pertubative processes, used by DTUJET and PYTHIA are compared.

Topics in gauge/gravity dualities / Estudos na dualidade calibre/gravidade

Romero, Jose Renato Sanchez 11 November 2014 (has links)
This thesis consists in a self-contained study of gauge/gravity dualities in the line of the Klebanov-Witten model. Here we explore first the known Maldacena duality that relates N=4 SYM theory in four dimensions to type IIB supergravity on AdS_5×S^5 in reasonable detail, after some necessary preliminaries on supersymmetric gauge theories, where we display in detail the supersymmetry algebra and representations for N 1 supersymmetry. There we also construct the so-called superfields that will be helpful to write invariant lagrangians for gauge theoriesmreadily, and then useful to construct the gauge theory side of the Klebanov-Witten model. In the original AdS/CFT correspondence and its phenomenologically interesting extensions, Dp-branes as solutions of supergravity and nonperturbative objects in string theory where gauge theory lives are crucial. So, to preserve the self-contained nature of this work, we include a brief review of superstring theory addressed to understand the need to include this higher-dimensional objects by T-duality and, at low-energy limit of the string theory, as solutions of the Einstein equations. The first climax of this work occurs when we use all we learned to establish the Maldacena conjecture, N=4 SU(Nc) SYM theory we study in the supersymmetry chapter, living on the four-dimensional worldvolume of a stack of Nc D3-branes in a flat-space, corresponds exactly to type IIB supergravity on AdS_5×S^5 .In order to prove it, we match symmetries and operators with states in both sides. But actually this corresponds to the weak form of the correspondence, because it is not possible to handle neither string theory or gauge theory at strong coupling. The focus and main motive to have to learn the first hundred of pages here will be to extend the dual gauge theory we studied in AdS/CFT towards more realistic gauge theories as duals of some supergravity theory. The Klebanov-Witten model, consists in replacing the five-sphere in the gravity background of type IIB for a more interesting Einstein manifold X5 , a coset space called T^1,1 .The resulting dual gauge theory is expected to be less supersymmetric, and it is indeed N = 1 superconformal field theory with matter content in the bifundamental representation of the gauge group SU(N)×SU(N), and a quartic superpotential that exhibits SU(2)×SU(2)×U(1) global symmetry, which is precisely the symmetry of the coset space in the gravity side. This is not the end of the story, the Klebanov-Witten model extended the Maldacena correspondence and found as a dual gauge theory a less supersymmetric but still conformal theory. Breaking of the conformal theory, proposed by Klebanov, Nekrasov and Tseytlin, is achieved by introducing fractional M D3-branes in addition to the N regular D3-branes. The resulting theory is an SU(N+M)×SU(N) gauge theory with N = 1 supersymmetry, no longer conformal and then a little more interesting as a part of the crusade to find a QCD-like theory. This is still not the end, the last model suffers from a singularity in the deep IR, rendering the gravitational description invalid in that regime. It was conjectured that the strong dynamics of the gauge theory should somehow resolve this problem. Klebanov, again, and Strassler showed that this conjecture was correct, and argue that the RG flow is in fact an infinite series of Seiberg duality transformations- a cascade - in which the number of colors repeatedly drops from N NM , so the gaugegroup changes from SU(N+M)×SU(N) to SU(NM) ×SU(N). This process can be repeated until the IR limit where the gauge group simply becomes SU(M). So, at the end we get a N=1 SU(M) gauge theory, a QCD-like theory. We say that the standard model itself may lie at the base of a duality cascade.

Superconformal indices, dualities and integrability

Gahramanov, Ilmar 29 July 2016 (has links)
In this thesis we discuss exact, non-perturbative results achieved using superconformal index technique in supersymmetric gauge theories with four supercharges (which is N = 1 supersymmetry in four dimensions and N = 2 supersymmetry in three). We use the superconformal index technique to test several duality conjectures for supersymmetric gauge theories. We perform tests of three-dimensional mirror symmetry and Seiberg-like dualities. The purpose of this thesis is to present recent progress in non-perturbative supersymmetric gauge theories in relation to mathematical physics. In particular, we discuss some interesting integral identities satisfied by basic and elliptic hypergeometric functions and their relation to supersymmetric dualities in three and four dimensions. Methods of exact computations in supersymmetric theories are also applicable to integrable statistical models, which we discuss in the last chapter of the thesis.
