This is a qualitative research project, conducted using theory and methodology proposed by Social Representation with respect to the yoga practice of adolescent inmates and employees of the CASA Foundation. The objectives of the study are based on the following themes: characterization of the subjects; contextualization of the yoga activity within the organization of CASA Foundation; analysis of the yoga practice as a self-help tool and its potential impacts on the lives of young residents in the CASA Foundation through social representation of the adolescent practitioners and staff of the institution and, finally, an analysis of the difficulties and challenges involved in building a sense of inner peace and well-being. Held at the “Unidade de Internação Divisão Regional 5 – Unidade de Internação Paulista”, in Vila Maria, São Paulo, the survey was carried out with the participation of four teenagers and five employees of the institution. Interviews with three guiding questions and the observation of participants were used as data collection instruments. The data collected and organized using the Central Nucleus Theory unveiled a design that has as its core the practice of yoga in the CASA Foundation with peripheral nuclei of "repercussions of the practice of yoga", "concepts" and "difficulties" for the group composed of internal adolescents, and "perception of the impact of activity," "doubts" and "concepts" for the group of employees. Factors relating to well-being, attachment, self-assessment, resistance, environment and everyday life were important in compliance with the socio-educative measures and body posture and lack of knowledge were some of the peripheral elements emerging from the narratives of the participants. Considered through Winnicott´s and Foucault´s theories the material allowed us to observe differences in the understanding of objectives, concepts and experiences in the proposal of the practice of yoga between the different groups, at the same time as these difficulties arise. The study gave voice to both participant groups, allowing them to submit their social representations of the yoga practiced in the premises of a corrective institution such as this. / TEDE

This work aims to analyse the type of support called Foster home, prioritizing the work developed by the educator/resident caregiver, based on what is proposed by the Child and Adolescent Statute. Such type of support aims to offer a place to develop relationships that themselves really approach to family environment through an individualized service, not only strengthening the autonomy and stimulation of social and community interaction, but also prioritizing family reintegration of children and adolescents who live in Foster home, under the principles of temporariness and exceptionality of this protection measure. For this purpose, it is assumed that the educator/resident caregiver, who remains full-time at the institution, it is a fundamental worker to the development of objectives of the support service called Foster home. Therefore, he/she should be prepared emotionally and professionally to relate himself/herself and provide necessary education, care and affection to children and adolescents who are taken in. However, it is believed that requirements for achievement of this work, based on legal norms, are not sufficient for the worker is able to meet the inherent challenges in this function. Thus, the methodological course made possible the bibliographical, documentary and field research with scripts of semi-structured interviews, having welcomed adolescents, educator/resident caregivers, and technical team of the support service as subjects. Assuming a theoretical discussion about the history of support services in Brazil and the culture of institutionalization, it was intended to emphasize challenges and legal achievements coming by the Child and Adolescent Statute, emphasizing reordering and document of technical guidelines: support services for children and adolescents, building knowledge based on speeches of the subjects of our research. The results showed the need for technical qualification of workers as a prerequisite, in addition to continuing education for educator/resident caregiver; besides de fact that Foster home still has many challenges to become itself a place for implementation of rights based on the doctrine of comprehensive protection. Finally, our research points to the importance of accessible public policies that are able to meet the needs of families of these children and adolescents. For this way, they contribute to exceptionality and temporariness of support measure, as well as to expansion of places for discussion, critical reflection, and fight in order to acquired rights by the Child and Adolescent Statute are achieved.

The study deals with quality evaluation of the housing program “Minha Casa Minha Vida” (MCMV) implemented in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre, in order to subsidize the social housing production. Firstly, it aimed at investigate if there are different patterns of spatial location according to income groups 1, 2 and 3, which might generate different levels of integration of the housing scheme in the consolidated urban grid. Secondly, it was verified whether the location patterns are related to urban legislation at local level, incorporated in the urban regulation and resulting in locations that are more appropriate to social housing production. Moreover, it was intended to explore if the structure of the urban space produced by the Program MCMV in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre showed improvements in relation to social housing produced by the National Housing Bank (BNH), considering spatial patterns of location of the housing schemes. Following, the patterns of spatial location were analyzed in order to test their impacts on the conditions of mobility and access to human and economic development opportunities that affect the level of resident satisfaction with the performance of housing schemes. Methodological procedures included multiple methods of data collection and analysis which enabled complementarities between the data obtained through archive information, physical measurements and questionnaires. The statistical analysis of quantitative data was carried out by means of frequencies and non-parametric tests such as Kruskal-Wallis and Spearman correlations. Spatial syntax analysis was used in order to measure levels of integration. Results confirm the existence of patterns of location, especially for the lowest income group, with large and medium size housing schemes distant from the consolidated urban area and segregated from its surroundings. The location of housing schemes for income groups 2 and 3 are similar, but slightly better than the locations of housing schemes for income group 1, which tend to promote different levels of resident satisfaction with the performance of the housing schemes and different impacts on their quality of life. Finally, it was possible to conclude that the patterns of location of the housing schemes produced in the Program MCMV in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre did not improve in relation to social housing produced by the National Housing Bank (BNH) and highlights the importance of assessing the impacts of location of housing schemes on the overall residents satisfaction, in order to produce more qualified residential spaces that promote urban sustainability.

Exploring the experiences of young adult women growing up with non-resident fathers in North West - Tlokwe Local MunicipalityLobaka, Simon Tebogo 12 1900 (has links)
This study examines the experiences of young adult women raised in non-resident father households
in Tlokwe Local Municipality, North West. Focus groups and face- to-face interviews were conducted
with 34 young women between the ages 18-25. Five important, nuanced themes emerged, these are: a)
fathers who are physically present but emotionally absent, b) fathers who are physically present
but uninvolved, c) fathers who are physically absent but involved, d) fathers who are physically
present and involved and e) fathers who are absent and uninvolved. Non-resident fatherhood remains
a challenge in the Tlokwe Municipality, most of the participants had never met their biological
fathers. The study revealed the frustration young women feel towards their mothers and maternal grandparents for caring more about maintenance than they do about a healthy father-daughter relationship. The study further revealed a deep- seated need for close proximity and an involved type of fathering among the young women. / Sociology / M.A.(Sociology)

Students' perceptions of service quality levels of students housing at the large metropolitan universityElie, Sammy Abraham January 2013 (has links)
The increasing attention to the provision of accessible, decent, safe and academically appropriate student housing in South Africa has led to a closer investigation of the nature and levels of quality in both on-campus and off-campus student accommodation. Nationwide, student housing management recognises that quality student housing is of great importance to both the quality of the higher education system and the success of students. In recent years, many studies in the field of service quality have been conducted within higher education. However, fewer studies have focused specifically on service quality in student housing. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the perceptions of students with regard to service quality levels in on-campus and off-campus student housing at NMMU, and to identify those service quality dimensions that need attention. A literature review was conducted to explore the meaning and nature of service and quality in student housing. It was concluded that from the different facets of service that quality, customer expectations, customer perception and customer satisfaction are important constructs in evaluating fully the levels of service quality. An amended SERVQUAL instrument comprising 41 items was used for students, in order to evaluate the service quality at on-campus and accredited off-campus student housing at NMMU. The results showed that there are significant differences in the service quality dimensions of on-campus student housing and off-campus student housing. Oncampus student housing gleaned a positive assessment for the dimensions of reliability, responsiveness, empathy and assurance. However, negative perceptions prevail with regard to on-campus infrastructural/tangible issues. The off-campus student housing fell short in a number of service-quality dimensions, including reliability, empathy, responsiveness and infrastructural/tangible issues. The assurance dimension received positive assessments for both on-campus and off-campus student housing. The study proposes that the NMMU student housing management pay attention to the shortcomings and make the desired improvements. The findings of this treatise have practical implications for student-housing managers, as they could direct their resources to improving poor service dimensions, and similarly refine marketing strategies, so that students’ needs are met in an exceptional and satisfactory manner.

Resident Rights and Electronic MonitoringShashidhara, Shilpa 08 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this exploratory study was to examine resident, family member and staff perceptions of electronic monitoring and their effect on resident rights. The sample consisted of 53 nursing home residents, 104 staff and 25 family members, in the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex, from a nursing facility in which residents utilize video cameras in their rooms (Nursing Facility 1), two nursing facilities that have video cameras in their common rooms areas (Nursing Facility 2 and 3) and a nursing facility that does not utilize video cameras (Nursing Facility 4). The interview questions and self-administered surveys were in regard to the participant's perceptions of electronic monitoring, perceived risks and benefits of video cameras, awareness of resident rights and consciousness of potential risks to resident rights. Data were analyzed using a mixed methods approach using both ATLAS t.i and SAS. Study findings revealed that residents, family members and staff are aware of the potential benefits of electronic monitoring in nursing facilities. While respondents are hesitant to have electronic monitoring in resident rooms, they are interested in utilizing electronic monitoring in common areas. While residents and staff believe that electronic monitoring compromises resident rights, family members believe resident rights are protected. Different types of staff have different perceptions of electronic monitoring. Those staff members that are more directly involved in resident care are less accepting of electronic monitoring compared to staff that have episodic visits with residents. Among staff members, nursing facilities with prior experience with electronic monitoring are less accepting of electronic monitoring. Further studies are needed to enhance this research.

As a Pediatrician, I Don’t Know the Second, Third, or Fourth Thing to Do: A Qualitative Study of Pediatric Residents’ Training and Experiences in Behavioral HealthPetts, Rachel, PhD, Shahidullah, Jeffrey D, PhD, Kettlewell, Paul W, PhD, DeHart, Kathryn A, MD, Rooney, Kris, MD, Ladd, Ilene G, MS, Bogaczyk, Tyler, BS, Larson, Sharon L, PhD 18 December 2018 (has links) (PDF)
Despite a mandated 1-month rotation in developmental-behavioral pediatrics (DBP), pediatric residents report inadequate training in behavioral health care. As a first step in much needed curriculum development in this area, this study sought to assess learner experiences regarding the management of behavioral health problems during residency. Four focus groups were conducted for residents in years 1-3 of training in 2 residency programs in a northeastern state. Transcripts were analyzed and coded by researchers through qualitative classical content analysis. The exploratory analysis revealed 9 key themes: time requirements, rapport building, resources and referrals for behavioral health, psychiatric medications, diagnosis vs. treatment, working with families, the importance of behavioral health, fears of working with a pediatric population, and training issues. These qualitative data further identify gaps in the behavioral health training of pediatric residents and may inform future innovations in training curricula.
