Zapojení uživatelů sociálních služeb do procesu komunitního plánování v Karlovarském kraji / Involving users of social services in the community planning process in Karlovy Vary Region

Pisár, Robert January 2017 (has links)
This Master's thesis deals with the description of the current state of community planning of social services and the mid-term planning of development of social services in the Karlovy Vary region. At the same time, the thesis reflects the historical content which led to the use of the community planning method in The Czech Republic. In the thesis, the author uses examples from abroad and from The Czech Republic that show specific problems especially encountered by organizers planning social services. The author bases his research on his analysis of interviews held with planning coordinators in the Karlovy Vary region. From the coordinators viewpoint, they describe structure and course of social service planning processes in the region. The author also examines the role of users invited into the planning of social services, how planning organizers communicate with those users, and how all representatives evaluate the plan's results. An additional information source regading social services planning dealt with publicly available resources, particularly websites of individual cities and their regions. The objectives of using this sources were to describe the planning of social services in the Karlovy Vary region and to determine its main active players. In conclusion, the author summarizes the...

Internet use among university students in Kenya : a case study of the University of Nairobi

Waithaka, Mercy Wangechi 09 1900 (has links)
The researcher investigated internet usage among students at the University of Nairobi using a quantitative case study method. A questionnaire-based survey was done among 381 students and face-to-face interviews were conducted with the university‟s library staff. The research findings indicate that the students' level of awareness about the internet services offered at the university was high. The students had good basic computer and internet skills; however, they lacked more advanced skills and this negatively affected their use of internet resources. The students used the internet for various purposes, including to study, teach and do research; to communicate; and for social interaction. The major recommendations of the study include providing formal internet training and adequate facilities; implementing a better, inclusive policy on internet use; and better co-ordinated university efforts. Free internet access should be made available to all the university students, if not all members of the university community. / Information Science / M.A. (Information Science)

“Som student är det jättesvårt att ha en optimal profil. Du har inte så mycket att visa där förutom dina studier” : En kvalitativ studie om identitets- och rollskapande på LinkedIn i ett professionellt sammanhang

Gutierrez Olguin, Melissa, Lagergren, Caroline January 2022 (has links)
The emergence and establishment of social media in society have increased individuals' daily use. As a result, user behaviors have changed, and social media platforms allow individuals to advance their careers. One platform used to present a professional identity is the social networking platform LinkedIn. However, it has appeared to be more difficult for university students to present a professional identity on the platform, which affects the possibility of being discovered by recruiters. Therefore, the study aims to investigate and describe the meeting between university students and recruiters on LinkedIn in the pre-stage of a recruitment process. The purpose has been to frame the expected role-playing on the platform and answer the question: "What factors underlie university students' professional identity creation in the meeting with recruiters on LinkedIn?". For this reason, the study has applied a qualitative research strategy and conducted seven semi-structured interviews, four with university students and three with recruiters. In addition, the study applied a theoretical framework for identity creation. The purpose was to examine the factors that form the foundation of university students' professional identity creation in the meeting with recruiters on LinkedIn. The study identified and described four factors. The factors are the creation of front-stage presentation, uncertainty in the presentation, the idealized presentation, and the social norm. In addition, there are various perceptions between university students and recruiters of the professional presentation expected of university students, which affects the ideals, social norms, stigma, and the unknown audience on LinkedIn.

Families as partners in the provision of mental health services : guidelines for social work practice

Mashiane, Selema 03 1900 (has links)
Mental illness remains one of the most devastating condition affecting the social functioning of individuals and families. The affected individuals and their caregivers expressed dissatisfaction in mental health service delivery. The mental health system is medically oriented and does not involve caregivers as partners in the provision of mental health services. Although the developmental approach has been adopted to guide the provision of services recognising human rights and social justice, the medical model remains a challenge in the provision of comprehensive mental health services. This is compounded by the Mental Health Care Act (Act No. 17 of 2002) that is silent on the role of families in the mental health system. Additionally, social workers are unable to provide adequate services due to lack of resources. A qualitative study using the exploratory, descriptive and contextual designs was undertaken. Purposive sampling was used to select 28 participants from three groups, namely ten MHCUs, nine caregivers and nine social workers. The goals of the study were to understand the experiences of MHCUs, caregivers and social workers in mental health service delivery; and to proffer guidelines for social work practice to enhance partnership between the family and mental health care providers. Data was gathered through semi-structured interviews and analysed according to Tesch’s (in Creswell, 2009:186; 2014) framework. Data verification was guided by Lincoln and Guba’s (in Krefting, 1991:214-222) model to enhance trustworthiness. The findings suggest that MHCUs and caregivers received inadequate psychosocial support which is attributed to lack of involvement in service delivery. Furthermore, social workers lack adequate training to provide effective mental health care. As a result, guidelines were developed for the establishment and enhancement of partnership between families and mental health service providers to offer comprehensive and sustainable mental health services. Future exploration of the role of the family in mental health services is required. / Social Work / D. Phil. (Social Work)

Střednědobé plánování rozvoje sociálních služeb na krajské úrovni / Mid-term planning of social services at the region level.

Pospíšil, David January 2013 (has links)
Master Thesis 2013 David Pospíšil Abstract: The subject of this master thesis is to analyze the current state of the mid- term planning of social services at regional level. This master thesis also describes the historical context of community planning, social services and their financing system. In this thesis there are applied methods as problem and objectives tree and multi-criteria evaluation of mid-term plans of social services development at the regional level, analysis and study of current legal standards related to this issue and questionnaire survey with representatives of the regions and the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. This thesis deals with the mid-term planning of social services in relation to the present legal anchor in Czech legislation. Mid-term planning of social services is based on the principle of subsidiarity. The whole process should be as open to the public and especially other immediate stakeholders as to providers or users of social services. The planning process is not entirely new tool for decision-making and the development of strategies. It appears there are many activities and areas that are not well interconnected. For example, the process of financing social services, which is conducted partly at the regional and partly on the state level. Within the planning...

Competitive Strategies of Digital Platforms in New Markets : An analysis of the strategies and firm financial performanceof digital platforms entering competitive markets in theNordics

Fouhy, David, Pais, Alfredo January 2022 (has links)
Over the recent decade the world has seen an increase in businesses launching new, or changing theirbusiness model to, digital platforms. New and established businesses are flocking to digital platformsin order to evolve their business model and keep up with advancements in technology, such as cloudcomputing, which enables commerce and communication on a much faster and more streamlinedlevel. Digital platforms with two-sided markets often face fierce competition from market incumbentswhich benefit from traditional supply-side economies of scale, as well as from other digital platforms. Therefore, the competitive strategy adopted at market launch and under operations will have a greatimpact on the platform performance in terms of firm financial performance. This study is divided into two parts and is performed with the objective to gain insight into thecompetitive strategies adopted by digital platform businesses with two-sided markets, and how suchstrategic decisions may be informed in favor of profitability. The first part investigates the influence ofinternal factors, such as debt ratio, quick ratio, sales growth, and capital turnover ratio, on the firmfinancial performance (measured by return on assets) of digital platforms with two-sided markets inthe Nordics. The second part investigates the relationship between the firm financial performance(measured by return on assets) of digital platform businesses with two-sided markets after launch andthe type of strategy adopted. Subsequently, two hypotheses are presented. Subsequently, twohypotheses are presented. A panel data regression model is developed to evaluate these relationships, allowing the authors to test the null hypotheses. The data set used in the panel data regression modelcomprise an unbalanced sample of 27 companies who have launched their platforms in Norway,Sweden, and Denmark. Financial data was gathered in the form of return on assets (dependentvariable), capital turnover ratio, quick ratio, debt ratio, and sales growth (explanatory variables). These companies were grouped depending on which strategy was adopted on market launch and underearly operations. These strategies are subsidy, seeding and marquee users, micro market launch andpiggybacking (categorical ‘dummy’ variables).Studying the firm financial performance of businesses which adopt digital platforms will help us tobetter understand the efficacy of strategies adopted and how these strategies impact financialperformance. Both null hypotheses tested may be partially rejected. The authors conclude that theinternal factors debt ratio, quick ratio, and sales growth have a significant influence on theprofitability (measured by return on assets) of digital platforms with two-sided markets in the Nordics. The influence of the internal factor capital turnover ratio on profitability is statistically insignificant.Quick ratio has a positive significant influence on profitability, whereas debt ratio and sales growthhave a negative influence. The authors also conclude that companies which have business modelsallowing them to adopt a subsidy strategy yields stronger profitability than those which adopt otherstrategies. Companies which entice seed & marquee users to their platform as a strategy yields thesecond strongest profitability. Companies which choose a micro market launch strategy yield theweakest profitability. The authors of this study will not draw conclusions on the efficacy of theadoption of a piggybacking strategy on profitability due to the limited number of observationsattributed to the piggybacking dataset.Future studies may expand upon this research with the inclusion of a wider catchment of businesses,as well as the inclusion of a wider data set to include other geographical locations and improvestatistical significance of the data set. An improvement to the study may also be to analyze thecorrelation between the strength of competitors upon market entry and the efficacy of the strategiesadopted.

État des connaissances sur les fauteuils roulants motorisés intelligents (FRMIs) et recommandations pour la poursuite de leur développement : un examen de la portée

Todam Nguepnang, Nathalie 06 1900 (has links)
Background: The level of social participation among wheelchair users can be affected by factors such as accessibility, as well as their individual clinical profile, which can limit their full involvement in meaningful activities of daily living. To meet their needs in terms of mobility and social participation, different prototypes of intelligent powered wheelchairs (IPW) are being developed, in order to improve the mobility of people with physical, cognitive or sensorial impairments, who have difficulties using standard powered wheelchairs. Objective: The aim of this study was to map the existing literature on the nature of studies carried out on IPWs to better understand how the existing IPWs meet the needs of powered wheelchair users, and to better guide the ongoing development of IPWs. Methods: A scoping review was conducted in accordance with the six stages of Arskeys and O’Malley’s (2005) framework which was later enhanced by Levac et al. (2010). All studies available until September 2020, written in English or in French, were included. Results: A total of 41 studies were included in the scoping review. The results suggest that the various technologies integrated into IPWs could meet some of the needs of powered wheelchair users (PWu), could help improve mobility, provide independence, and promote social participation of some PWu. Moreover, additional results were identified: (a) other technologies, that could provide more independence and comfort to users, and (b) other clinical uses of IPW. An important limitation of the literature is the lack of experimental studies that could help assessing the efficiency of IPW. The point of view of caregivers is also less reported in the literature. Conclusion: Further studies should be considered to improve the functioning of the existing prototypes of IPW.
