Under this perspective, care provided to users has often had a moralistic character, which gives priority to measures of incarceration rather than projects that add value to rescue the user s citizenship and wishes. We know that the understanding of drug use as a public health issue is already a step forward. And, in this context, the Day- Care Centre for Users of Alcohol and Other Drugs (CAPS AD in Portuguese) emerges as a reference device, playing a strategic role in the assistance network. So, this institution was chosen to be approached in this research. We ground on the constructionist perspective because we believe that care to drug user is constructed socially and performed by humans, professionals and managers, and non-humans factors, the environment in which they are received. Our goal was to know how care becomes effective in drug users assistance, proposed by the Health Department: CAPS AD. With this purpose, observations of everyday activities on the device during four months and six interviews with professionals who work in it were made. The survey results suggest that, although AD CAPS III Sé can be well located, have an easy access and an engaged team also critical about the problem of drug consumption, it still presents challenges to be faced, such as its physical structure, the vision that professionals have for assistance network to users, which often prevents efficient care in other devices. There is also the question of the limits that the own activity imposes on professionals who work on CAPS, leaving them exhausted in their daily lives. Despite these difficulties, care becomes effective on that device because its professionals propose strategies that go beyond technique, listening to the users and not judging their behavior in a host perspective and harm reduction / O cuidado aos usuários de substâncias psicoativas é complexo devido a suas inúmeras contradições e por sua história, que se confunde com a política proibicionista de combate às drogas.

Rodrigues, Sandra Souza 26 October 2016 (has links)
The constant evolution of the Web has proven to be a worldwide phenomenon that quickly needs to address the various segments of current society (websites and web applications, government, banks, entertainment and others). In particular, there is little attention to the difficulties that senescent users have, given that most websites are designed considering target audience that usually is composed of young people and specialists, often trained to interact on websites. Therefore, it is important to support evaluation of Web pages, to meet the requirements of senescent users. The purpose of this project is to develop a support for the evaluation of web accessibility and usability, focusing on the older people, in order to provide clear feedback to developers and experts. Support services for remote users in selected public university libraries in Kenya

Wachira, Mary Njeri 03 1900 (has links)
The study was undertaken to explore the remote users of services available public university libraries in Kenya. Scarce literature was available locally on the subject of the study. Provision of quality and relevant information services to support teaching, learning and research remains a central objective of libraries in higher education world over. Higher education institutions in Kenya continue to experience unprecedented growth in student population against limited human capital and physical infrastructure, among the library services. This reality has prompted Universities to adopt different education delivery models; distant learning, e-learning, and part time modules to accommodate the extra numbers seeking higher education. Depending on the preferred module, the students can be categorized into three main groups: on-campus, off-campus and remote user groups. Higher learning standards require that all users to have equitable and inclusive access to resources. This study explores the nature and availability of support services and resources available for remote library users in public university libraries in Kenya. The research methodology adopted was a descriptive research design; where qualitative data was collected using Focus Group Discussions (FGDs). The findings revealed that public university libraries in Kenya have various forms of resources and services that can support remote user needs. However they face certain challenges that hinder the use of the available remote user resources and services in providing equitable access to information services to all its types of users. Key among the challenges was that remote users were not identified as a special user group in the libraries studied contrary to what the study grounded. The results of the study are discussed under three main thematic areas: services for remote users, facilities available for remote users, and policies and regulations that govern remote use of library resources. Equally included in the study are discussions, conclusions and recommendations based on the findings besides identified informational gaps for further research. / Information Science / M.A. (Information Science)

Hence the importance of the issue here exposed being made clear by the fact of these professionals need of information for the development of their teaching practices. The present research on "Needs and use of information in the practice of science teachers" aims to analyze the needs and use of information of teachers from the urban area of the municipality of Santa Rita - PB. In that sense, the following question arises: What are the needs and use of information for science teachers in their teaching practices? An alternative approach of the Users´ Studies was used in this research, and the Sense-Making model was prioritized for offering through universal categories of cognitive metaphor, the situation (need for information), gap (cognitive emptiness), and use (informational help to bridge the cognitive emptiness), the logical way for meeting the research objectives. This is a descriptive field research, with a propositional nature. The population is consisted of 28 science teachers, distributed in schools in the urban areas of the municipality of Santa Rita. As an instrument of data collection, the mixed questionnaire was used. Data analysis, of qualitative and quantitative basis, shows that the study group is composed of qualified teachers who prioritize the post-graduation demonstrating interest in being updated for the practice of teaching. Although acknowledging the difficulties of the profession, most teachers manifest satisfaction and teach for pleasure in self-fulfillment. With emphasis on the categories of the Sense-Making, situation-gap-use, the situation reveals that teachers are constantly seeking to meet their information needs through the Internet, books, and educational videos, among others. In the gaps, barriers of time, language, terminology and quality of information were the most displayed, but they developed strategies that minimized the difficulties and could make use of the information. The use of information was centered on the development of teaching activities and the teachers were satisfied with it because it solved their informational problem. Actions to contribute to a better performance of the studied teachers about those questions in their teaching and pedagogical practices were proposed. We conclude that the development of the research contributed to the basis of the Science of Information, which is to provide information and impart knowledge to those who need it, making this the social responsibility in this area of knowledge, as well as in Education, when it makes itself responsible for the challenge of educating a society. Studying the teachers´ information needs and how they guide the search process and the use of information to satisfy their informational needs towards teaching practice, was assigned as a process of great value.

Designing an electricity order creation workflow for novice and expert users

Wikar, Martin January 2023 (has links)
Electricity procurement is a complex task for most companies. Knowing how much electricity to buy and when, in an attempt to get a low price can be stressful. There are tools to simplify this task, and one of these is a web based tool, here referred to as SystemX. SystemX simplifies electricity procurement through a set of different functions. One function in SystemX is the electricity order creation workflow, in which users can create orders for electricity to be delivered at a chosen time in the future. The workflow was thought to be complex and heavily geared towards expert users, and even expert users needed help and consultation at times. This master thesis focuses on creating a new design for the order creation workflow in SystemX and to make it more usable for novice and expert users. The methodology in the thesis is based on the double diamond model, which is a model based on user-centered design. This model ensured that the user was kept in focus throughout the process, from the initial interviews to the final testing of Hi-Fi prototype. The model consists of four stages; discover, define, develop, and deliver. The process began with the discover stage, in which information about the current system was collected. This was done through interviewing two current users of SystemX, finding out their needs, and what they think could be improved in the order creation workflow. The current workflow was also evaluated through a heuristics evaluation and a usability test with both novice and expert users. The main problems and areas of improvement were compiled during the define stage, by analyzing the gathered information from the previous stage. A Lo-Fi prototype was created and iterated on during the develop stage. The final Lo-Fi prototype was tested during usability tests with both novice and expert users. Based on feedback from the Lo-Fi prototype usability tests, a final Hi-Fi prototype was created during the deliver stage. The Hi-Fi prototype was also tested using usability tests with novice and expert users. In order to compare the usability between the current version of SystemX and the Hi-Fi prototype, a system usability score was collected from the test users. The result indicates a great improvement in usability for the novice users, and a slight increase in usability for the expert users. A clear next step is to implement the design in SystemX, and evaluate which problems come up when developing a real web application using the proposed design as a foundation.

:  study on religious isolation on Facebook

Einarsson, Rebecca January 2015 (has links)
The purpose of Att vara en i mängden… – En studie om religiös isolering på Facebook (Running with the pack… – A study on religious isolation on Facebook) is to gain an understanding of religious isolation between Christian, Jewish, Muslim and non-religious people. Further, the purpose is also to gain insight on how Christians, Jews and Muslims experience Facebook as a platform for expressing religious identity. The study was made using a concurrent mixed method, combining quantitative and qualitative methods, targeting Swedish Facebook users. The theoretical framework behind the study is The Spiral of Silence, by Elisabeth Noelle-Neumann.The results indicate that religious isolation exists, and that it effects how prone users are to self-disclose about their religious identity. Also, the study shows that public opinion does not affect how prone users are to self-disclose. Rather, it is determined by the perceived opinion of the people in the user’s Facebook network. Due to the algorithm used by Facebook to filter users’ newsfeed, the recommendation to all Facebook users is to deliberately show interest to a diversity of religious content
