<p>The aim of the study was to describe how patients experienced communication, treatment and costs at the dental hygienist program at Högskolan Kristianstad. The study was based on a questionnaire that was made at the patient clinic. The questionnaire was conducted by the treating dental hygienist student after the treatment. The questionnaire was answered in the waiting room. Collection of the material occurred during the month of March in 2009. There were totally 111 patients that participated in this study. The results of the study showed that 92.8% of patients thought that the atmosphere at the reception was calm and efficient. More than two thirds of the participating patients (63.1%) felt very safe in the treatment chair. 81.1% of the patients that participated in this study thought that they got very good treatment by the dental hygienist student. The majority of the participated patients (59.5%) also considered the price for the treatment as reasonable. The conclusion of this study is that the majority of the patients have a positive attitude in terms of communication, treatment and price towards the patient clinic at Högskolan Kristianstad.</p>

Syftet med studien var att genom en systematisk litteraturstudie dels beskriva vårdpersonals kunskaper och attityder till äldres munvård och dels att beskriva hur dessa kunskaper och attityder påverkas av munvårdsutbildning. Frågeställningar som användes i studien var: Vilka kunskaper och attityder har vårdpersonal avseende munvård av äldre personer som är i behov av omsorg? Hur påverkas vårdpersonal av munvårdsutbildning gällande kunskaper och attityder till munvård hos äldre personer som är i behov av omsorg? Resultaten tyder på att kunskaper gällande oral hälsa är bristfällig hos vårdpersonal men samtidigt visar studien att flertalet vårdpersonal ansåg att det finns ett samband mellan oral hälsa och allmänhälsa. Resultaten visar även att munvård ofta ges låg prioritet när det kommer till omhändertagande av äldre och tidsbrist ansågs vara en bidragande faktor till detta. Studien åskådliggör vikten av munvårdsutbildning eftersom sådan både kan leda till en positivare attityd och ge en ökad kunskap hos vårdpersonalen. Utifrån studiens resultat drogs konklusionen att vårdpersonal ofta har bristande kunskap och negativ attityd i förhållande till oral hälsa och munvård samt att munvårdsutbildning har en positiv effekt på vårdpersonals kunskaper om och attityder till äldres munvård.</p>

Introduction: Periodontal disease is one of the most common inflammatory diseases in the world. A possible autoimmune aspect behind the local tissue destruction in periodontal disease, as a result of the invasion of oral pathogens over time has been reported in previous studies, but the correlation is yet unclear. Purpose: The aim of this literature review was to shed light on the topic if autoantibodies and autoimmune reactions are associated with gingivitis, periodontitis or peri-implantitis and the progression of these inflammatory diseases. Material and methods: A search in the Pubmed database was done resulting in 138 hits. To follow a systematic approach for selecting the studies to include, we used predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria Results: 26 articles studying a broad variety of different autoantibodies was included for this literature review. A vast majority of the included studies were of case-control design and, because of the broad variety and different variables and data, we decided that a meta-analysis could not be performed. Conclusion: Many studies where results could be compared due to similar comparisons, regarding the incidence of periodontal disease and the prevalence of certain autoantibodies, showed opposite results which makes it hard to reach a conclusion. The main part of the included studies were of small size and therefore more comparable studies are needed to clarify the possible association between periodontal disease and an autoimmune reaction mediated by autoantibodies.

OBJECTIVE: Lichen planus is a disease that can affect both skin and mucosa, in some cases both at the same time. Among patients with lichen planus, the oral version of lichen planus (OLP) can be observed in 50 – 70 %. OLP is the most common chronic inflammatory disease of oral mucosa. Today it is known that OLP is an inflammatory condition but it is not known exactly what substances are prominent and active during this specific inflammatory process. The aim of this study was to examine inflammatory factors involved in OLP. METHODS: A total of 24 individuals were included in this prospective study. 15 of these were patients diagnosed with mucosal LP, whereas the other nine were healthy controls. Blood samples were taken from all participants and sent to Life Science Lab in Uppsala where they used Olinks inflammation panel to analyse inflammatory markers in the blood samples. RESULTS: There were differences in inflammatory factors in blood between the controls and patients with mucosal lichen planus. The inflammatory factors that contributed the most to this difference were IL-5, SCF, FGF-19 and FGF-21. CONCLUSIONS: Due to the differences between LP-patients and controls we can conclude that there are tendencies to an inflammatory process going on systemically involving different levels of mainly IL-5, SCF, FGF-19 and FGF-21. The inflammatory factors that contributed the most to the differences between the two groups are not the typical ones that have been the resulting elevated inflammatory factors in other previous studies.

Syfte: Syftet med studien var att belysa hur studenter som dagligen röker minst tio cigaretter upplever det egna tobaksbruket. Ett ytterligare syfte var att belysa studenternas uppfattning om cigarettrökningens påverkan på den orala hälsan. Material och metod: En empirisk studie med kvalitativ design tillämpades. Datamaterial samlades in genom intervjuer där åtta studenter från Högskolan Kristianstad deltog. Intervjuerna baserades på en intervjuguide på tolv frågor, som varade i cirka 10-15 minuter. Data analyserades genom kvalitativ innehållsanalys. Resultat: I studiens resultat framgick att deltagarna upplevde lugnande och avslappnande känslor i samband med sin cigarettrökning. Dessa känslor framgick främst vid rökning under stressfulla situationer och var huvudanledningen till att deltagarna fortsatte röka. I samband med sin rökning upplevde majoriteten av deltagarna försämrad kondition och svårigheter att vara ifrån rökningen i fem timmar eller mer.  Studenternas uppfattningar om hur rökning påverkar oral hälsa var att det medförde främst gula tänder och dålig andedräkt. Slutsats: Studenterna hade en positiv syn på sin cigarettrökning där de upplevde främst avslappnande och lugnande känslor. Deras uppfattningar om rökningens effekter på orala hälsan var bristande där främst missfärgningar och dålig andedräkt framgick.
