Occupational safety & health of young adult agricultural workers

Rudolphi, Josie M. 01 May 2017 (has links)
Background: Agriculture is the most hazardous occupational industry for young adults. Young adults are engaging in agricultural work and interacting with common hazards, however, it is unknown how young adults are engaging with such hazards and whether administrative controls including workplace organizational factors and social influences in the workplace are associated with safe working practice. Methods: Workplace practices were examined among young adult agricultural workers (18-24). Workers responded to statements regarding their participation in six agricultural work areas, specific behaviors within each work area, risk-taking behaviors of parents, peers, and supervisors, and items about workplace organizational characteristics. A second study, conducted among swine facility workers in the Midwest, tested the effectiveness of an intervention that coupled behavioral theory with technology to increase the use of hearing protection in swine facilities. Results: Results from the cross-sectional, online survey indicated supervisor influence was more strongly associated with reported workplace behaviors than co-worker/peer or parent influence. Furthermore, organizational factors including number of hours worked each week and the presence of safety and health policies was associated with workplace behaviors Results from the intervention study suggest behavioral tracking is effective at increasing the use of hearing protection among young adult swine facility workers in the short term, however, changes in behavior are not maintained over time. Supplying hearing protection is a more effective tool in facilitating sustainable behavioral change. Conclusions: Results suggest interventions that address social and organizational factors of work to improve workplace behaviors among young adult agricultural workers should be tested.

Kvalitetsstämpeln : Arbetsmiljöarbete som legitimitetsskapare

Arleskär, Martin, Broman, Frida January 2013 (has links)
When demands of the surrounding world increase organizations find new ways to be the most effective and legitimate. This applies to customers, employees, competitors and society as a whole. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to investigate how a public housing company1 handle issues concerning the work environment. The focus of this paper is to illustrate how the occupational safety and health work interacts with legitimacy-building factors, for example standardization. To explain this, we use neoinstitutional theory with its concepts we find relevant. This bachelor thesis is a qualitative study, consisting of document studies and interviews. By encoding the material our three initial questions were answered. The conclusions suggest the public housing company retain systematic routines when working with occupational safety and health. Further, according to us, the company executes a large part of their occupational safety and health work in order to maintain its legitimacy, although some is also carried out for reasons of efficiency. The introduction of a occupational health standard would not necessarily cause significant change in the organization's daily work routine, but give an increased focus on occupational health and safety work, which in turn could improve the work environment of the organization. 1 Note that "public housing" in Sweden (allmännyttiga bostadsbolag)not is reserved for people under a certain income level. This form of housing tenure makes up 20% of all homes in Sweden.

Holmberg, Sofia January 2014 (has links)
This essay focus on work related stress and psychosocial enviroment in working life. The purpose of this study is to present a detailed description of regulation of the the Occupational Safety and Health Act and investigate how well employees are being protected by the law. I will also explain with the help of statistic which employees that most often suffer from work related stress and the results is discussed from a gender perspective. Work related phycosocial health is a big issue in todays workplaces, and people who suffers from stress are supposed to be protecteded by the the Occupational Safety and Health Act, but is that really the truth? The Occupational Safety and Health Act is a frame law, meaning the law is general and needs binding regulations to define the rules, and there is no such act about work related stress at the moment. No employer has ever been convicted for work related stress. At the same time the Occupational Safety and Health Act explains that the employer has a responsibility to take arrangement to prevent mental illness in working life. It’s mostly women who suffer from work related stress. The most common reason for sick leave among women is caused by their mental health, and it often caused by organizational elements like a heavy work load or a minor self-monitoring. These elements commonly appear in occupations where the employee works with people. The fact that there is no binding regulation about work related stress can create problems, especially for women. The problems and effects that can occur will be treated and analyzed in this essay. Finally there will be a reflection about how binding regulations in the aspect of work related stress may help women get a better protection in the Occupational Safety and Health Act.

Engel, Bernhard 28 May 2018 (has links) (PDF)

Programy a kampaně zaměřené na BOZP / Agenda and campaigns focused on Occupational Safety and Health

Vacek, Josef January 2008 (has links)
The thesis clarify the reasons of program construction and introduction of campaigns focused on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH). On the basis of work accident rate statistics, conducted researches and investigation we have found out, considering OSH issues, that it is essential to change attitudes, approaches and thinking of the public, company management and employees. The status quo shows that people do not approve OSH issues. They take them as a burden. At this point it is impossible to reduce the number of work accidents and cases of occupational desease. Furthermore, it is impossible to achieve natural development of high-quality work culture and ease. The thesis also deal with prospective devices which could solve the current situation. These devices are mainly edification and OSH promotion. Again via researches and investigation it is being found out which specific tools of edification and promotion are the most effective ones in terms of content aspect. One part of the theory of these thesis is historical view on the process of work safety from the first extant evidence till the post-war situation in Czechoslovakia. Edification and campaigns where programs and campaigns are part of that, start from general marketing principles and directly, creation and introduction of campaigns is the matter of social marketing. That is why a part of the theory is focused on marketing principles which can be used when edifying and promoting OSH and also focused directly on social marketing and social advertising. One of the chapters specifies the process of implementation of campaigns focused on OSH. Concretely, it defines target groups, available tools and devices, planning, designation of campaign partners, principles of implementation and in conclusion it analyses how to assess the campaign and methods of getting feedback after the campaign. To demonstrate that, in the thesis there are described current campaigns focused on OSH issues in the Czech Republic and also cooperating with the European Union. The countries of the European Union have OSH at very high level and because our country is a part of this community, it is almost a duty to make the best of experience of these countries and to cooperate with them. The conclusion of the theoretical part deals with the attitude of the mentioned countries toward the issue.

Systém managementu BOZP ve výrobním podniku Saint-Gobain Sklo ČR s.r.o. / Occupational safety and health management system in production company Saint-Gobain Sklo ČR s.r.o.

Kloziková, Iva January 2008 (has links)
My diploma thesis is focused on the occupational health and safety system in production company Saint-Gobain Glass ČR s.r.o., which is part of the international concern Saint-Gobain. Question of employees' safety and health is very important for this concern, occupational safety and health management system is elaborated in Frame of reference document, and all the affiliated branches gradually implement concern's requests to their own systems. In the theoretical part I made an overview of health and safety regulations' history, legal requirements, which companies have to meet, and institutions, which cover this field in Czech Republic. In the practical part I assess how documentation for health and safety system complies with legal requirements and afterwards I assess how company meets concern's requirements. I have used concern's tool, 20 steps audit, to evaluate the system, which consists of approximately 200 questions regarding all the fields of industrial hygiene and safety. The result of the audit has showed the implemented system works on a basis to comply with legal requirements, but still doesn't fulfill all the concern's rules. Company still has a long way to meet concern's vision.
