Les expressions figées en français et en BCMS : traduction, comparaison / Idioms in French and in BCMS : translation, comparison

Ljepavic, Danijela 22 June 2015 (has links)
This thesis makes a comparison between the idioms of the BCMS languages (Bosnian, Croatian, Montenegrin, Serbian) on the one side, and the French language on the other, in the domain of translation. In the first segment, the study begins with the definition of idioms and the criteria for fixation. After the explanation of differences among BCMS languages, we present the corpus of idioms in BCMS and in French, with their distribution within different cultural domains, while distinguishing among three types of idiomatic expressions: literal, transparent, and opaque. The second part is devoted to the comparative analysis of idioms in BCMS and French. It begins with a record of their different origins, after which we examine the cultural foundations of expressions, depending on different domains. We develop a comparative linguistic analysis of idioms, giving details on various compound names and phrases (verbal, adjectival, etc.), and integrating the rhetorical dimension, including metaphors. Finally, after an overall focus on translating, we examine issues found in interpretation and translation solutions for different idioms between French and BCMS.

Laser Levitation of Solid Particles for Combustion and Gasification Applications

Lewis, Skigh E. 20 March 2009 (has links) (PDF)
This dissertation details theoretical and experimental work in the development of a novel combustion diagnostic: laser levitation of solid particles. Theoretical analyses of the forces involved in the suspension of solid particles in a laser beam provide a comprehensive description of the levitation mechanism. Experimental work provides extensive observations and data that describe each of the forces involved, including results from detailed models. Theoretical models establish that a free-convective drag force, light scattering, photon momentum, and other minor forces contribute to the trapping mechanism. The theory quantitatively predicts particle temperature and magnitudes of each of the forces involved. Experimental measurements contain significant scatter, primarily due to the difficulty of making measurements on these very small particles. However, the best estimate trends of the measurements agree well with the predicted behavior despite the scatter. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) predictions of the free-convective drag force qualitatively agree with published experimental values. The technique represents a tool for studying combustion and gasification of single, micron-sized, solid particles. Biomass fuels and coal (among many others) provide experimental demonstration of particle suspension. The system suspends particles near the focal point of a visible-light laser, allowing continuous monitoring of their size, shape, temperature, and possibly mass. The Particle Levitation Model (PLM) establishes the trapping mechanism using data from three submodels: an energy balance, a drag force model, and a photon force model. Biomass fuels provide experimental demonstrations of particle levitation under a variety of conditions that illustrate each of the primary levitation mechanisms. Several different trapping techniques provide single-particle data in literature, including optical tweezers and electrodynamic levitation. However, optical levitation of opaque particles is a relatively new technique and, although less-well understood, provides a potentially powerful novel diagnostic technique for single-particle combustion investigations. The diagnostic consists of a solid-state laser, a high-speed color camera, an infrared camera, and a variety of optics. All experimental data are obtained optically, including particle dynamics, size and shape, and particle temperature. Thus, this technique enables the in situ investigation of micron-sized, solid particles under conditions similar to commercial combustion and gasification processes.

A Dialogue Between the Baby and the Babies Aspects of the Self in the Contexts of Anorexias : the Baby and its Family, the Adult and its Internal Parentality

Deronzier, Déborah 11 December 2014 (has links)
Bion, 1959). / This dissertation offers a modelisation of the psychological dynamics which are at work in the contexts of anorexia. Process is the cornerstone to the exploration of the ongoing psychodynamic that is at work with the anorexia of the baby-in-its-family and the anorexia nervosa of the adult. The first part reviews the existing psychoanalytical literature and considers the works dealing with the anorexia nervosa of the teenager and of the adult, then the works dedicated to the anorexias of the baby; last but not least, the works offering an approach that considers the anorexias at the different stages of life. The second part deals with the epistemological basis of this work. It explores the research in clinical psychology and the way it is linked to practice and teaching. It looks into the theoretical and practical filiation that operates in our approach to the mental life and to the care relationship. The third part is dedicated to the methodology of the clinical research – mainly the specificities of psychoanalytical observation. It presents E. Bick’s method of infant observation and how this method was adapted for the clinical work with anorexic patients. The fourth part ponders on what is psychologically at stake in the ‘feeding relation’. This relation is seen as commensal (W.R. Bion, 1962), the paradigm of the intersubjective encounter, of the psychological development of the baby’s subjectivity and the emerging parentality, but also the most favored ground of the unconscious psychological transmission. The fifth part creates a dialogue between the baby-in-its-family and the babies aspects of the adult self in the contexts of anorexia. Anorexias are considered in terms of food refusal-impossibility demonstrating an attempt to organise psychological survival. Two common anxieties are at the center of the psychological dynamic : a catastrophic anxiety and a persecution anxiety. The catastrophic anxiety appears as an « endless and disintegrative fall », a sign of a primary depression, which is overloaded with a vampirising and devouring anxiety. The persecution anxiety is also thought as a form of objectalisation of the anxiety of « endless and disintegrative fall ». The adhesive defenses, which are organised to fight against the « endless and disintegrative fall », are accompagnied by an inhibition of the instinctual drives —especially of secondary greed— as well as their splitting, denial and projection. The contact with the baby’s emotional life reactivates the primary depression against which the babies aspects of the parental self are organised in an economy of psychological survival. The food refusal-impossibility of the baby appears as a mirror to the refusal-impossibility to receive and give meaning to the emotionnal life that characterises anorexic parentality. The link between the baby and its parentality, but also between the babies aspects of the self and the internal parentality, presents an opaque and persecutory reflexivity that is interiorized by the baby and the babies aspects of the self, with the form of a pernicious and involutive circle. Finally, this dissertation concludes with the proposition of a range of the feeding relation that is structured by two poles. The first pole is the more integrated one : that of the feeding relation. It is marked by a relation of intimacy between the baby and its parentality and by the introjection of a commensal reflexivity which is both mutual and asymmetrical, and which sustains the integration of instinctual drives, the development of the bases of a protective superego and of the mental growth. The second pole, the un-linked one, is that of the relation of un-feeding characterized by a relation of ex-timity between the baby and its parentality, and the interiorization of a persecutory and opaque reflexivity in the form of a involutive circle leading to the desintegration of the drive and the development of an ego destructive superego (W.R.Bion, 1959).

Influência das propriedades térmicas da envolvente opaca no desempenho de habitações de interesse social em São Carlos, SP / Influence of the thermal properties of the opaque envelope in the thermal performance of social housing in São Carlos, SP

Marques, Tássia Helena Teixeira 22 November 2013 (has links)
The main objective of this research is to analyze the influence of the thermal transmittance of the opaque envelope (walls and roof) and other parameters (color of the exterior surfaces, natural ventilation and thermal mass) that affect the thermal performance of social housing in the city of São Carlos, SP. After a research in public and private agencies related to housing construction, a single-family model was selected for the studies. First, it was carried out a study on parameters of the simulation models, identifying which elements are most relevant for the software. Defined the parameters of the models, it was made a verification of maximum values of properties of the envelope prescribed in the standard NBR 15575 - Residential Buildings - Performance and in the regulation RTQ -R: Technical Regulation for the quality level of energy efficiency in residential buildings. This analysis provides evidence of the difficulty of setting values of this property (U-value) for the opaque envelope, since its performance is defined by the thermal characteristics of the envelope as a whole. Finally, it was made three series of parametric simulations varying the thermal transmittance of walls and roofs, the thermal inertia of the external walls, the colors of the surfaces exposed to solar radiation, the use of natural ventilation and the use of internal loads (occupancy, lighting and equipment). The results indicate that the best performances are associated with low thermal transmittance of the opaque envelope of housing. However, it is clear that the ranges of transmittance values become very tenuous when we analyze the performance of all parameters of the envelope. We conclude that to establish limits of transmittance values results is an incomplete analysis of the thermal performance of the building. It is necessary to consider all factors that influence the thermal behavior of housing, which involves the analysis of the materials of walls and roofs and the colors of exterior surfaces. It is also important to adopt different criteria to consider summer and winter according to predominance in the climate of the city, and to consider in the analysis the percentage of glass area of the exterior envelope.

Redução do uso de água, rendimento e qualidade de grãos de dois cultivares de arroz irrigado em função de épocas de supressão da irrigação / Water use reduction, yield and grain quality of two rice varieties unider different times of irrigation withholding

Londero, Guilherme Pilar 24 February 2014 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The irrigation of the rice crop is essential for good plant growth, assisting in achieving high grain yield levels. However, it results in large water volume used, thus the efficiency of water use is a major challenge to the sustainability of the crop. In this matter, early irrigation withholding can be considered an option for saving water. However, this practice can prejudice the quality of the crop, in yield and grain quality. In rice cultivars with large panicles, as in the case of hybrid rice, early withholding may be reflected in the quality of the grains from the bottom of the panicle, due to the difficulty of kernel filling in this region. Research was conducted during the growing seasons 2011/12 and 2012/13 , in order to verify the effect of anticipated moments of withholding irrigation on yield and water use efficiency ( Chapter II ) , and grain quality ( Chapter III ) of two rice cultivars . The experiments were conducted in the floodplains of the Departamento de Fitotecnia of the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM), using the experimental design of randomized blocks with four replications. Each experiment was composed of the factorial design appropriate to the factorsconsidered. Early withholding irrigation reduces the volume of water used in the rice crop, but depending on the moment and the cultivar, it can reduce productivity. For withholding irrigation performed before the recommended time it should be taken into account the cultivar, soil type and possible rainfall after the end of irrigation. Harvests with lower humidity than that recommended by research show a reduction in milling quality. Early withholding does not affect the milling quality, translucency, opaque and chalky grains; however, there was no difference in quality between the studied cultivars.

Resource monitoring in a Network Embedded Cloud : An extension to OSPF-TE

Roozbeh, Amir January 2013 (has links)
The notions of "network embedded cloud", also known as a "network enabled cloud" or a "carrier cloud", is an emerging technology trend aiming to integrate network services while exploiting the on-demand nature of the cloud paradigm. A network embedded cloud is a distributed cloud environment where data centers are distributed at the edge of the operator's network. Distributing data centers or computing resources across the network introduces topological and geographical locality dependency. In the case of a network enabled cloud, in addition to the information regarding available processing, memory, and storage capacity, resource management requires information regarding the network's topology and available bandwidth on the links connecting the different nodes of the distributed cloud. This thesis project designed, implemented, and evaluated the use of open shortest path first with traffic engineering (OSPF-TE) for propagating the resource status in a network enabled cloud. The information carried over OSPF-TE are used for network-aware scheduling of virtual machines. In particular, OSPF-TE was extended to convey virtualization and processing related information to all the nodes in the network enabled cloud. Modeling, emulation, and analysis shows the proposed solution can provide the required data to a cloud management system by sending a data center's resources information in the form of new opaque link-state advertisement with a minimum interval of 5 seconds.

Performance of several diagnostic systems on detection of occlusal primary caries in permanent teeth / In Vitro Performance of ICDAS, QLF and PTR/LUM on the Detection of Primary Occlusal Caries on Permanent Posterior Human Teeth and Under the Opaque Resin Sealant.

Jallad, Mahmoud January 2014 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) Indiana University School of Dentistry Master Degree Thesis. / Detection of caries at an early stage is unequivocally essential for early preventive intervention. Longitudinal assessment of caries lesions, especially under the opaque preventive sealant, would be of utmost importance to the dental community. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this two-part in-vitro study is to evaluate the performance of multiple detection methods: The International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS); two quantitative light-induced fluorescence systems QLF; Inspektor™ Pro and QLF-D Biluminator™2 (Inspektor Research Systems B.V.; Amsterdam, The Netherlands); and photothermal radiometry and modulated luminescence (PTR/LUM) of The Canary System® (Quantum Dental Technologies; Toronto, Canada). All these are to be evaluated on their detection of caries on posterior human permanent teeth for 1) of primary occlusal lesions, and 2) under the sealant of primary occlusal lesions. METHODS: One hundred and twenty (N = 120) human posterior permanent teeth, selected in compliance with IU-IRB “Institutional Review Board” standards, with non-cavitated occlusal lesions ICDAS (scores 0 to 4) were divided into two equal groups. The second group (N = 60) received an opaque resin dental sealant (Delton® Light-Curing Pit and Fissure Sealant Opaque, Dentsply, York, PA). All lesions were assessed with each detection method twice in a random order except for ICDAS, which was not used following the placement of the sealant. Histological validation was used to compare methods in regard to sensitivity, specificity, % correct, and the area under receiver- operating characteristic curve (AUC). Intra-examiner repeatability and inter-examiner agreement were measured using intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). RESULTS: 1) Of primary occlusal lesions, sensitivity, specificity, and AUC values were respectively: 0.82, 0.86 and 0.87 (ICDAS); 0.89, 0.60 and 0.90 (Inspektor Pro); 0.96, 0.57 and 0.94 (QLF-D Biluminator 2); and 0.85, 0.43 and 0.79 (The Canary System). Intra-examiner repeatability and inter-examiner agreement were respectively: 0.81 to 0.87: 0.72 (ICDAS); 0.49 to 0.97: 0.73 (Inspektor Pro); 0.96 to 0.99: 0.96 (QLF-D Biluminator 2); and 0.33 to 0.63: 0.48 (The Canary System). 2) Of primary occlusal lesions under the opaque dental sealants, sensitivity, specificity, and AUC values were respectively: 0.99, 0.03 and 0.67 (Inspektor Pro); 1.00, 0.00 and 0.70 (QLF-D Biluminator 2); and 0.54, 0.50 and 0.58 (The Canary System). Intra-examiner repeatability and inter-examiner agreement were respectively: 0.24 to 0.37: 0.29 (Inspektor Pro); 0.80 to 0.84: 0.74 (QLF-D Biluminator 2); and 0.22 to 0.47: 0.01 (The Canary System). CONCLUSION: Limited to these in-vitro conditions, 1) ICDAS remains the method of choice for detection of early caries lesion due to its adequately high accuracy and repeatability. QLF systems demonstrate potential in longitudinal monitoring due to an almost perfect repeatability of QLF-D Biluminator 2. The Canary System performance and repeatability were not acceptable as a valid method of early caries detection. 2) None of the methods demonstrated acceptable ability in detecting of occlusal caries under the opaque sealant. However, QLF-D Biluminator 2, with limitation to these in-vitro conditions and Delton opaque sealant, demonstrated a fair accuracy AUC (0.70) in detecting of caries under sealants at an experimental threshold of 12.5% ΔF.
