Influence de la chaussure sur la biomécanique du jeune joueur de tennis : adaptations à court et moyen termes / Influence of footwear on the biomechanics of young tennis players : short and mid term adaptations

Herbaut, Alexis 18 May 2016 (has links)
Nowadays, most of tennis footwear manufacturers propose children tennis shoes that are scaled-down from adult shoes. However, children are not adult-miniature and have specific needs. Between 8 and 12 years old, children experience growth spurts that decrease the lower limb flexibility and increase the tensile forces on tendons insertion sites onto bones. In addition, the practice of tennis in high-intensity, with the repetition of accelerations and decelerations, places high tensile forces at the Achilles tendon insertion site onto the calcaneus and large compressive forces under the calcaneus. The combination of these 2 factors increase the risk to experience one of the main overuse injuries in children: Sever’s disease. Therefore, the aim of this thesis work was to define the features of a suitable footwear for children tennis players in terms of fitting comfort and limitation of injuries. Firstly, a sock equipped with textile pressure sensors was designed and its measurement reliability was validated. Then, this innovative device was used to correlate pressure measurement and comfort perception on 8 foot locations, allowing to determine the optimal inner-shoe volume for children tennis players. Secondly, the acute effects of shoe drop on the biomechanics of children tennis players were examined and it was shown that reducing from 12 mm to 6 mm allowed to reduce ground reaction forces and thus potentially impact-related injuries. Finally, the long-term influence of shoe drop reduction on the biomechanics and heel pain reported by children tennis players was investigated. The gradual reduction in shoe drop induced a switch from a rear- to forefoot strike pattern in half of the participants and allowed to remove heel pain for them. Future studies are needed to examine the lower-limb structural adaptations linked to the use of partial minimalist shoes.

Det Svenska Skadepanoramat Inom De Fem Vanligaste Idrotterna : Fotboll, Friidrott, Golf, Gymnastik Och Innebandy. / The Swedish Injury Landscape Within The Five Most Popular Sports : Soccer, Track And Field, Golf, Gymnastics, And Floorball.

Schlotterbeck, Lina, Lundqvist, Emilia January 2024 (has links)
Background: Swedish sports play a crucial role in promoting good health but also carry a risk of injuries. This requires both preventive and rehabilitative measures. A mapping of sports injuries can help identify knowledge gaps and facilitate the implementation of preventive measures within physiotherapy. Aim: The aim was to map and analyze the injury landscape after the year 2000 within the five most practiced sports in Sweden, and to identify any differences based on gender, age, and sport. Method: A literature review was conducted, focusing on epidemiological-, and cohort studies. 163 studies were identified through the databases Pubmed (n = 78), Cinahl (n = 30), and SportDiscus (n = 55). After reviewing title and abstract, 17 remained for quality review with the Quality Assessment Tool for Observational Cohort and Cross-Sectional Studies. Results: 15 studies (football = 7, athletics = 3, gymnastics = 2, floorball = 4) were included with a total of 3,635,628 participants, of which 69.7% were men. No studies on golf were identified. A high frequency of lower extremity injuries was noted in all sports, especially in football and athletics, while forearm/hand injuries were prominent in gymnastics. In addition, back and head injuries were noted within floorball and gymnastics. Conclusion: The injury pattern does not vary significantly between the sexes, but men show a higher risk of injury than women. Only football noted a varying pattern between youth and adults, where youth had a lower injury incidence and more fractures. There is a need for updated, gender-representative research within sports.

Satellite cell proliferation in response to a chronic laboratory-controlled uphill vs. downhill interval training intervention

Eksteen, Gabriel Johannes 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MSc (Physiological Sciences))--University of Stellenbosch, 2006. / Despite a growing interest into the mechanisms of the repeated bout effect, little is known about the consequences of chronic eccentrically biased training and the possible advantageous such training may offer to athletes as well as patients with muscle-debilitating disease. This study investigated the role of satellite cells in the muscle adaptation in response to either downhill or uphill high intensity training (HIT). Welltrained endurance runners were divided into two training groups matched for training volume and 10 km running times (n = 6, uphill training, UP; n = 6, downhill training, DH) and subjects in both groups completed 10 HIT sessions over a period of 4 weeks. Running performance was tested before and after the training intervention by a 10 km road race and peak treadmill speed (PTS) in horizontal and inclined (+5%) laboratory incremental tests to exhaustion. Skeletal muscle biopsies were sampled at baseline, after 2 HIT sessions, and after 4 weeks of HIT. Muscle was analysed immunohistochemically for satellite cell frequency as identified by CD56 and M-cadherin (Mcad) expression. Myogenin protein contents of muscle homogenates were determined by western blotting. Myosin heavy chain (MyHC) isoform proportions and mean fibre crosssectional area was measured. During the HIT intervention, UP exercised at a higher percentage of their HRmax than DH (mean ± SD, 97 ± 1 vs. 92 ± 3 %HRmax, p < 0.005), but at a similar rate of perceived exertion (RPE). DH completed more intervals per session and covered greater distance per session than their UP counterparts. Both training groups increased their training intensity but decreased their training volume during the 4 weeks of HIT. The combined group of 12 athletes improved their PTSgradient (mean ± SD, 16.7 ± 0.8 vs. 17.3 ± 1.0 km/h, p < 0.05). No significant differences between groups were found for PTS, VO2max or 10 km performance. Satellite cell frequency in this cohort of trained runners (48.9 ± 10.3 km/week) at baseline was similar to healthy young males (CD56+ cells/fibre, 0.19 ± 0.10). Satellite cell frequency increased significantly in DH after 4 weeks (Mcad, 123%; CD56, 138%) and non-significantly in UP (Mcad, 45%, CD56, 39%). No significant differences were found after two training sessions or at any time between groups. Mcad and CD56 expression correlated well (r = 0.95, p < 0.0001). Muscle myogenin content increased for both groups (UP: 56%; DH: 60%) after 4 weeks. No notable changes were seen after two training sessions. However, myogenin levels 2 days after session 1 correlated well (r= 0.99, p<0.005) with muscle pain experienced on the same day, as measured by the visual analogue scale. No changes were seen in the MyHC proportions or the fibre cross-sectional area after the training intervention. It was concluded that the training intervention was too short to induce changes in MyHC distribution or fibre area. Is seems likely that satellite cell proliferation was initiated as an early response to DOMS, but the response was maintained for 4 weeks. However, due to the lack of change in fibre morphology and myonuclear number, the role of satellite cell proliferation in fibre type transformation or muscle hypertrophy could not be established. Similarly, various possible roles for increased myogenin protein are offered, but since the origin of myogenin expression (satellite cells vs. myonuclei) was not determined, no definite conclusion regarding the precise function can be made. In conclusion, this study is the first to definitively indicate satellite cell proliferation in well-trained endurance runners in response to a change in training, including specifically downhill HIT. This response was early and sustained. This study asks several questions about the role of satellite cells during muscle adaptation to repetitive downhill training, and lays a foundation for further research into this unexplored field.

The most common injury location in padel tennis; damage occurrence and analysis of the relationship between gender, age and player level : A quantitative survey study

Al-Hadithi, Rania, Sigurdsson, Malin January 2023 (has links)

The relationship between work-related musculoskeletal disorders, absenteeism and visits to the staff clinic by nurses in an eThekwini District hospital

Kumalo, Babusisiwe Thandi Evan 05 March 2015 (has links)
Submitted in fulfilllment of the requirements for the Masters in Nursing degree, Durban University of Technology, 2014. / Introduction Work-related musculoskeletal disorders are the most commonly reported work-related illnesses impacting on the quality of life of nurses. Absenteeism, work restriction, loss of income and disability are related outcomes. Nurses are at a higher risk of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSD) compared to other healthcare professionals because of the nature of their duties. Problem statement The relationship between work-related musculoskeletal disorders, absenteeism and visits to the staff clinic by nurses has not been established in South Africa. Purpose The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of WMSD in nurses and its relationship to absenteeism and visits to the staff clinic by nurses in a selected eThekwini District hospital. Research method A cross-sectional quantitative descriptive survey was conducted in two stages namely the prospective cross-sectional survey of nurses and the retrospective review of records. A random sample of 231 nurses was selected, proportionally, from all nursing ranks and invited to fill in the self-administered musculoskeletal questionnaire. Results The lifetime prevalence of WMSD in nurses in this study was 77% with the twelve months prevalence of 67% and the seven days prevalence of 43%. The prevalence of low back pain was higher (21% for twelve months and 47% for seven days) than that of other body regions with a higher tendency (65%) of WMSD affecting more than two body regions. Although the prevalence and patterns of WMSD was almost the same across all nursing ranks, nurses working in the Out Patients Department reported the highest prevalence (22%). There was no significant relationship between age, gender and smoking; however, a strong correlation between WMSD and participation in physical exercise, work task and workload was noted. No relationship could be established between WMSD and staff visits to the staff clinic as well as amount of sick leave taken. Conclusion This study showed that WMSD is high in the selected hospital. Nurses working in the Outpatients department reported the most WMSD; body parts affected was not related to age, gender, nurse rank or unit in which the nurse worked. There is a problem of under- reporting of WMSD. Nurses working in this hospital have an option of attending their private health service providers even following a WMSD. In these cases the staff clinic is unable to keep accurate statistics of WMSD, conduct reviews and proper management of the WMSD.

Olsson, Torbjörn January 2017 (has links)
Background: There is limited knowledge of Swedish young elite level climbers and their experienced pain in the fingers and training habits. An increased expose of an overload injuries is at risk. Epiphyseal fractures of fingers growth zones reveals that the sport is developing in an unwanted way. Despite recommendations of specific finger training should not be a part of the training it is still common. Objective: To identify experience of pain in the fingers and training habits and to analyze the relationship between pain perception and exercise habits. Materials and Methods: The examined group filled out a questionnaire retrospective of their experience of pain in the fingers and exercise habits during 2016. The participants were divided into age categories (9-13 years and 14-19 years) and sex. Results: Out of a total 86 participants 63 completed the questionnaire. The majority 68.3 % used specific finger training methods. The boys and the older age group, 30 %, experienced so much pain in the fingers that it affected their training negatively. 79.4 % of participant’s took help from a coach in their training. There was a highly significant positive correlation (r=0.355) between the number of workouts per week and the experience of pain in the fingers. There was also a highly significant negative correlation between the use of trainers and age (r=-0.450). Conclusion: The majority of participants use specific finger exercise despite recommendations not to use it. Furthermore the majority have a coach. The coach is responsible for the training and need to be better of monitoring the individual's exercise habits and their physical status (injuries, strengths, weaknesses). Parents, the climber and their coach need to work better and closer together to increase safer training methods.

A crossectional study of adherence to rehabilitation, cognitive appraisal and percived pain

Bakke-King, Robert, Johansson, Sara January 2019 (has links)
Introduction: Acute injuries are generally classified as more severe than overuse injuries due to the fact that they often lead to longer time away from sport. This type of classification of severity in research is not deemed appropriate since it often excludes people suffering from overuse injuries. People with overuse injuries usually stay in their sport but participates with pain, reduced function and performance. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine significant differences between adherence to rehabilitation, cognitive appraisal and perceived pain depending on if a sport injury has occurred acute or due to overuse.   Participants: 51 participants answered the questionnaire and 39 (14 women and 25 men) of these were included in the study. The participants were between 16 and 35 years old, suffered from a sport injury and had a rehabilitation program to treat their injury. Based on the diagnosis and description of the injury the participants were separated into two groups, either acute injury or overuse injury. Method: A questionnaire including two validated questionnaires, the Rehabilitation Adherence Questionnaire and Cognitive Appraisal Health Scale and an estimation of highest experienced pain were distributed among different sport teams and social media. To investigate if there were any significant differences between the two groups on the examined variables several t-tests and one ANOVA was completed. Results: No significant differences were found between the two groups on any of the examined variables. The category threat on the Cognitive Appraisal Health Scale were close to significance (p=0,071) and suggests that people who suffer from an acute injury found their injury to be more threatful. Conclusion: If a sport injury has occurred acute or because of overuse doesn't seem to be a singular determinant factor that affects adherence to rehabilitation, cognitive appraisal or perceived pain

Análise cinético-funcional comparativa no procedimento de exodontia via fórceps convencional (utilizando empunhadura reversa) e ergofórceps

Garcia, Luciane Tomasi Dalmolin 26 September 2013 (has links)
Ergonomics applied to the dental activity aims to rationalize the procedures, avoiding unnecessary fatigue to the professional, while still offering safety and comfort to the patient. The extraction, among the several surgical procedures, is considered to cause increased wear and fatigue. To minimize these difficulties, Pece and Naressi (1995) developed a systematic and differentiated extraction technique and the corresponding instrument, a forceps named Ergoforceps. This study aims to compare kinetically and functionally the activity of extraction with the conventional forceps and the ergonomic forceps. For this research, twenty volunteers from the dentistry course of UFPR were analyzed during the activity of alveolar extraction. Photographic images and footage formed the basis for the application of RULA and MOORE GARG (Strain Index) tools. A questionnaire was also applied to the volunteers. These ergonomic analysis tools were selected since they were considered the most suitable to assess the effort made by the upper limbs. The grip used with the conventional forceps was the reverse, which has biomechanical advantages over the traditional. The results obtained with the RULA method for the extraction forceps were: 70% score 5 (moderate risk) and 30% score 6 (moderate risk). In contrast, when the Ergoforceps was used: 70% score 4 (low risk) and 30% score 3 (low risk). With the Moore Garg tool, the score of the volunteers when using the extraction forceps were: 30% score 3 (doubtful) and 70% score 4.5 (doubtful). In contrast, when the Ergofórceps was used the score was: 90% score 1 (low risk) and 10% score 2 (low risk). The results suggest that systematic extraction undergone with the Ergoforceps has ergonomic advantages and reduces the risk of developing occupational injuries among dentists.

Design de procedimentos e postos de trabalho: o uso da análise ergonômica e o método OCRA / Design procedures and working stations: the use of ergonomic analysis and the OCRA metthod

Silva, Fernando Partica da 25 November 2013 (has links)
The industrial sector is responsible for a high number of working stations which require a lot of repetitive actions, mainly of the upper limbs, resulting in an increasing number of Work Related Musculo Skeletal Disorders (WMSD). The prevention of WMSD, can be promoted by the application of management measures and diagnostic of risk situations in real working conditions, through the use of ergonomic tools to fully evaluate the main risk factors for the occurrence of WMSD. This study employed the OCRA Method as an ergonomic tool in a Metal-Mechanics sector industry and aimed to promote ergonomic improvements and verify the influence of productivity levels in a redesigned working station. The OCRA Check List enabled to map the Paint Sector Jobs and characterize the working station with the highest repetitive action musculoskeletal embarassment. The OCRA Index allowed to identify and quantify risk factors, and predict WMSD occurrences before and after the redesign of Painter I procedures and working stations. Painter I worker productivity was measured and it was observed that the ergonomic improvements provided by OCRA Method influenced the worker productivity. The use of OCRA Method and its guidelines for ergonomic interventions to the redesign of procedures and working stations, resulted in a reduction from to 15.36 to 2.03 in the OCRA Index, which corresponded to four times decrease in the probability of workers presenting occupational disease caused by repetitive actions. The working station redesign positively interfered in the work productivity since the reduction of technical actions and improvement of posture conditions resulted in decrease in consumption of paint used on the Profile C metallic parts; monthly, ergonomic redesign, besides creating better working conditions, enable through productivity gains, savings in more than 145 paint per month for the Painter I working station, without affecting the quality of the procedure. The OCRA Method application, a method recognized and recommended by the international standards ISO and EN, provided the interface of the ergonomic method to the redesign of procedures and working stations, aiming at ergonomic improvements and productivity gains in the workplace under study.
