Automatická klasifikace spánkových fází z polysomnografických dat / Automatic sleep scoring using polysomnographic dataVávrová, Eva January 2016 (has links)
The thesis is focused on analysis of polysomnographic signals based on extraction of chosen parameters in time, frequency and time-frequency domain. The parameters are acquired from 30 seconds long segments of EEG, EMG and EOG signals recorded during different sleep stages. The parameters used for automatic classification of sleep stages are selected according to statistical analysis. The classification is realized by artificial neural networks, k-NN classifier and linear discriminant analysis. The program with a graphical user interface was created using Matlab.

The strategy of PSG investment bankNieuwoudt, M. M. 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MBA)--Stellenbosch University, 2003. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: PSG Investment Bank started out of the PSG Group in 1998. It was a successful
enterprise that was rated highly by the public, institutions and employees. Through
1999, there was a struggle on executive level over the strategy that PSG Investment
Bank should follow. The struggle culminated in 2000 with the resignation of the
founder of PSG Investment Bank. The remaining executives put their strategy in
action during 2000 and 2001. External factors made the environment difficult during
late 2001 and 2002 and PSG Investment Bank was not able to respond in such a
way that it could ensure its own survival. PSG Investment Bank was sold to Absa in
August 2002, resulting in PSG Investment Bank's closure and delisting in 2003.
This study examines the strategy of PSG Investment Bank through its life according
to a model for strategic management put forward by Burger (2000). The vision of
PSG Investment Bank, the external environment that influenced PSG Investment
Bank and the internal environment of PSG Investment Bank are analysed as well as
the strategic issues and options utilised by PSG Investment Bank.
The conclusion of the study is that PSG Investment Bank faced a tough external
environment that needed a strong internal environment to be able to survive. By not
managing the most important internal resources, the employees, correctly,
management lost the ability to ride out the storm brought about by the external
circumstances and were left with few strategic options but to sell PSG Investment
Bank.
gerespekteer is.
tydens 2003 gesluit is.

Tiredness in traffic is a major problem in society. It is especially dangerous to drive heavy trucks when tired because these vehicles are large and often have vital roles when involved in traffic accidents. To address the problem, this degree project has studied which sleep stage is most appropriate to wake up during, in order to wake up sharp and alert, and what types of techniques and methods are suitable for portable detection of Rapid-Eye-Movement. Previous work and studies have been done which indicates that awakening during REM sleep is optimal for feeling alert. The chosen methods are based on variants of well-established techniques that are used to identify sleep stages. Electrooculography is used to measure eye movements using four electrodes placed on the head. Body movements are detected by an accelerometer attached to the arm. Pulse measurements are made and used to calculate the pulse variation during sleep. The goal is to create a prototype which will know when the user is in REM sleep and then wake the user up. This work is divided into two embedded systems that are made between two different degree projects. The result was three sensors that worked individually. Due to lack of time and a longer troubleshooting, the prototype was not completed. Before the sensors can be used in a product, additional tests are required under the supervision of a sleep specialist.

Successful Treatment of Respiratory Insufficiency Due to Adult Acid Maltase Deficiency With Noninvasive Positive Pressure VentilationPuruckherr, Michael, Pooyan, Payam, Girish, Mirle R., Byrd, Ryland P., Roy, Thomas M. 01 July 2004 (has links)
Acid maltase deficiency (AMD) is a rare autosomal recessive genetic disorder that results in an accumulation of glycogen in the lysosomal storage vacuoles. It is classified as a glycogen storage disease (type II) and is also known as Pompe's disease. The prognosis of the patient with AMD is poor and the main cause of death is respiratory failure. We report a female patient whose respiratory insufficiency was documented to occur most severely during rapid eye movement sleep and who benefited clinically from the institution of nocturnal noninvasive bilevel positive airway pressure.

The Ugly Side of the Beautiful Game - Hooliganism in French FootballAmado, Carlos Josue 11 November 2008 (has links) (PDF)
Football violence was a rare phenomenon in France until the nineteen eighties. Harsh economic times coupled with the challenges of unemployment brought a different type of fanatic to football stadia. To vent their frustration about the economic difficulties of their time, some fans found an easy scapegoat: the increasing number of African immigrants in France. These fans, known as hooligans, have become organized and can be found supporting most major French football clubs, disrupting what once was a relatively tranquil national pastime. This thesis traces their development in France, looks at what they borrowed from Italian and English fan groups, and suggests how their organization is now uniquely French.
