Filhos, pais, padrastos: relações domésticas em famílias recompostas das camadas populares / Children, parents, stepparents: family relationships among stepfamilies of low-income classes

Felipe Watarai 01 October 2010 (has links)
This study aimed at analyzing the forms of relationship established by teenagers and youngsters in stepfamilies with their several relatives. The subjects have been born into a previous union of their mother and were presently living with her and her new partner, either formally married or not. Hence, it was attempted to describe the relationships these subjects experienced with the mother, her present partner, and relatives of both of them; with the biological father and his relatives; with their siblings, half-siblings and stepsiblings, either children of their stepfather or stepmother. Once these relationships were not restricted to the household space, they involved a wide range of relatives, many of them without a term to define the kin ties. In order to keep track of this multiple new bounds, the identities and roles conferred to these diverse characters were also investigated. Lastly, the socialization practices of the subjects were also analyzed, also related to the people that took part in this process. For this research, 11 teenagers and youngsters of both sexes, at the age band between 14 and 20 years old, of 10 stepfamilies of low-income classes of Ribeirão Preto-SP, Brazil, were interviewed. The transcripts of these interviews were analyzed through the standpoint of Anthropology and Psychology. The analysis aimed at apprehending recurring themes in their speeches, as well as particularities in the subjects\' experiences of relationships with relatives. These data were compared with the literature on the issue, in order to trace similarities and divergences, and were also interpreted through these theoretical tools. The analysis on the subjects\' reports pointed towards the centrality of the mother in the family life and indicated that they presented greater intimacy with her. Due to this centrality, the maternal relatives were also more present in the everyday life of the subjects, if compared to the paternal or the stepfather\'s ones. Because the latter does not bear blood ties with his stepchildren, he is prone to be considered a less important relative by them. However, despite this evaluation, due to the relation the stepfather had with the subjects\' mother and to their everyday living together, he may eventually be considered to be \"just like a father\", especially if he has participated in the socialization of the subjects. Related to their several siblings (blood, half and step ones), the subjects tended to confer a more steady and clear role to them. When half and stepsiblings lived in the same house for relatively long periods of time, they tended to consider each other as brothers and sisters, the same way as among blood siblings. From the set of the data analysis, it was possible to perceive the great complexity of relationships among stepfamilies, the tension between blood kinship and the socially established one, and the extension of family relations beyond the household limits due to the different unions established by parents and stepparents, which end up constituting the so-called family constellations.

In order to carry out the study, we have started from Freudian considerations regarding the father, proceeding to Lacan s propositions on the father s mission and arriving to the meaning of what we have designated with the term demission. It stands for the decline of operational possibilities to exercise the symbolic paternal function, as a result of nowadays social bond characteristics. Therefore, talking about father demission is not rigorously the same as talking about the decline of paternal function. It actually is about realizing that the father s role as athird cannot be done without social support, which in our time is crossed by a discourse that cannot but to contradict such role, being, however, indispensible to subjective constitution. We intend to demonstrate how does father demission put in evidencenew forms of subjective constitution that, thus, result in the primacy of the body in certain types of embodied phenomena.Aiming to promote a productive discussion on these new symptoms, we haveused Freud s and Lacan s conceptions of body symptoms, or at least symptoms subject to be inscribed in the body. Finally, we have built our considerations towardsthe tacit and causal linkage that, in our comprehension, unites father demission and some contemporary symptomsin which the body is highlighted. We have also brought attention to the structure of the term father (de)mission, which have allowed us to maintain the idea of an operational paternal function, even when the conditions for it are not so favorable / O presente trabalho é fruto de uma pesquisa de natureza teórica que teve como objetivo investigar a possível relação entre o que chamamos de demissão paterna e certos sintomas corporais que se tornaram frequentes na contemporaneidade.

Otcové na rodičovské dovolené v České republice / The fathers on parental leave in the Czech Republic

Čechová, Pavla January 2012 (has links)
This diploma work is focused on the situation of fathers on parental leave in the Czech Republic. The aim of research is to find out how fathers feel on their parental leave, what is positive or negative for them and how they evaluate this experience. The theoretical part describes the legislative framework of parental leave and parental allowance and explains the concepts such as femininity, masculinity, maternity and paternity. Then I deal with gender stereotypes and situation on the labour market, and their influences on the decision for starting parental leave. Then I formulate arguments for more father's participation in taking care of children. The empirical part is focused on a qualitative research. The research was realized by interviews done with 10 fathers on parental leaves, and analyzed by coding. Then I made a connection between new data and theoretical resources which are described in the first part. At the end I indicate the posibility of doins some other research, for example with both parents.

Lindqvist, Rut, Privén, Marcus January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine which factors real estate agents consider to influence them in the choice of taking paternity leave and what role organizational culture has. The aim of the study is to answer following questions:●Which factors fathers specify within the real estate brokerage industry as crucial in the choice of taking paternity leave?●What role does organizational culture play? The result of the study is based on six qualitative, semi-structured interviews with brokers who either will, are, or have been on paternity leave. As theoretical framework Schein's three levels of organizational culture was mainly used followed by scientific publications that linked organizational culture with paternity leave and parental leave. The result show that organizational culture within the real estate brokerage industry is an obstacle that needs to be developed to encourage equality regarding parental leave in the workplace. In-depth studies seems required as to what actions real estate companies need to take to influence broker’s constant availability and change the image of the ideal broker.

[en] ARCHETYPES OF THE FATHER: THE PATERNITY AND MASCULINE IN TRANSFORMATION / [pt] ARQUÉTIPOS DO PAI: A PATERNIDADE E O MASCULINO EM TRANSFORMAÇÃO

BERNARDO ANTÔNIO ALMEIDA PINTO DE SOUZA 20 October 2016 (has links)
[en] In family composition, the role of the father was one of the most has been transformed over the past few years. In this dissertation, we propose an investigation into the changes that have gone and still go men and fathers in postmodernity. In order to do this, we took the theoretical framework of the Analytical Psychology of C.G. Jung. Within this theoretical line, we include mainly masculine archetypes and archetype of the father, which often overlap, as well as their different manifestations today. Similarly, we ponder the statutes of the persona and the shadow of his father and the father of modernity today. The idea of father has existed before unconsciously understanding of physical paternity. Fatherhood, understood as a social invention is a specific allocation of man, while maternity is specific of the woman. It was necessary to make the contrast between masculine and feminine, between patriarchy and matriarchy, between fatherhood and motherhood, because such issues are deeply intertwined show. Furthermore, we resort to the mythology and rituals described by the anthropological studies to facilitate the understanding of ancient studies of these issues. Given the occurrence of a relativization of masculine archetypes in the current culture, we propose to discuss the concept of new father and whether this could be considered as a new symbol of the masculine in the field of fatherhood.

The reproductive ecology of plainfin midshipman: variation across time and space in a species with alternative reproductive tactics

Cogliati, Karen M. 15 December 2014 (has links)
<p>Alternative reproductive tactics (ARTs) have been described across taxa numerous times, and are especially common in fishes. The advent of molecular techniques has enhanced our understanding of such mating systems, yet these techniques have only been applied to relatively few species. Furthermore, ecological variation has long since been recognized as an important factor influencing mating patterns and sexual selection, yet it is often ignored. In my thesis, I conducted field studies to investigate the reproductive ecology of a species with well characterized ARTs, the plainfin midshipman (<em>Porichthys notatus</em>), and to explore how these mating patterns varied across time and space. This species is characterized by two male tactics: guarders and sneakers. I show that both tactics are successful at gaining fertilization. Indeed, I found evidence for several behavioural adaptations by the guarder male tactic to gain fitness, including guarding, nest takeovers, and plastic cuckoldry behaviours. I also documented the lowest paternity for guarder males for a species with obligate male parental care. Paternity increased over the course of the breeding season, which was likely a result of a higher occurrence of nest takeovers early in the season. In a cross-population analysis of plainfin midshipman, I found significant differences in nest availability and density between two genetically distinct populations, but this did not translate into significant differences in mating patterns. Taken together, my thesis helps elucidate the reproductive ecology of a classic species with ARTs, and has important implications for our understanding of ecological influences on mating patterns and sexual selection.</p> / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Řízení o určení a popření rodičovství / Legal Proceeding of Establishment and Disputing Parentage

Svobodová, Petra January 2018 (has links)
Legal Proceeding of Establishing and Disputing Parentage The topic of this thesis is the legal proceedings of establishing or disputing parentage. The aim of the thesis is to provide complex description and analysis of current framework of the proceedings for establishing or disputing parentage in relation to the substantive measures, point out problematic areas and weak spots of the legislation and provide possible solutions de lege ferenda. The text is divided into eight chapters. First chapter deals with the term "parentage" from various perspectives - biological, social, legal and the link between them, mainly with the case law of the Supreme Court, Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights in mind. Second chapter provides the historical evolution of the legal framework for establishing and disputing parentage, going all the way back to the ancient Rome, Austrian Civil Code, the Family Law Code and the Family Code, to the present, where the civil law underwent re-codification and the whole area of family law has been included within the new Civil Code. The third chapter is devoted to the analysis of the substantive measures regarding the establishing and disputing of parentage as described in the Civil Code, because the substantive measures and procedural measures are closely...

Lehoux, Frédéric 08 1900 (has links)
Since the onset of second-wave feminism, the nearly universal participation of women in the labour market has loosened fathers’ grip on the role of exclusive household provider that they had held for so long. Increasingly, heterosexual women in contemporary society have higher levels of education and more advanced careers than their male partners; in direct proportion as women are breadwinners, men are required to assume more active, participatory domestic roles. In this time of rapid transition, transformation, and redefinition of gender roles within the heterosexual domestic economy, fathers participate more equitably in raising children and homemaking, roles that historically and culturally had long been assigned exclusively to women. These new responsibilities sit uneasily with popular culture’s stereotypical representation of men, and with identificatory models of normative masculinity that men have required under the auspices of compulsory heterosexuality. Consequently, western men younger than fifty often find themselves straddling two worlds of competing imperatives. The place that fathers can and must take in their families requires a critical inquiry. The irony of the father’s place can be understood as the tension between retrograde or conservative gender norms and the demands – both political and pragmatic – of contemporary middle-class masculinity. This underlying, structuring tension of contemporary masculinity is experienced in gender alignment anxiety, along with filial, paternal, and inter-generational difficulties. This thesis adopts a deconstructionist approach to the analysis of contemporary constructions of reproductive masculinity. Working among gender studies, queer theory, and psychoanalysis, it offers analytical readings of the ‘self-help’ discourses of John Stoltenberg, the fictional autobiography of Karl Ove Knausgaard, and the American television series, Dexter.
