Paisagens reveladas: o Jaó caboclo, quilombola, brasileiro / Revealed Landscapes: Jaó, Peasant, Quilombola, Brasilian

Marques, Sílvia Corrêa 28 September 2012 (has links)
Estes, uma vez localizados, serão a base para ações de musealização / This research is turned to the archaelogical study of Jaó, one of the areas in the State of São Paulo, that in the year 2000, was categorized as remaining quilombo colony. The historical archaeological site of Jaó, is located in Itapeva, a town in the South East of the State. It is a property that stayed whole, without divisions between heirs, a small holding of peasants of african roots, formed in the years subsequent slavery abolition, and became private property with the decline of \"tropeirismo\". Black rural communities were created during various processes of diversity and area now present in the whole national territory. It is hoped that through Landscape Archaeology and comparing historic sources being them by mouth and drawings, will be possible interpret a quilombo landscape. So, in the interface between Archeology and Museology, this research intends to demonstrate how Jaó and it surrounding area, can be seen as a priviledged territory, to be identified, valorized and preserved through actions of material and non material identification of this heritage, not yet wholly analised. The land work has at its principal aim, to present this quilombo people, a landscape and memory sites as patrimonial references. These, once located, will be the basis of actions to create a museum

Loiceiras, potes e sertões: um estudo etnoarqueológico de comunidades ceramistas no agreste central pernambucano / Woman potters, storage water pottery and Wilderness: an ethnoarchaeological study of pottery communities in the agreste central region of Pernambuco state - Brasil.

Amaral, Daniella Magri 30 April 2019 (has links)
This thesis is based on the study of potes (emic category for storage water pottery) materiality in the domestic daily life context of contemporary rural populations, in accordance to the theoretical perspectives of present archeology, contemporary past archaeology and archaeological ethnography. I structured the thesis from questioning the reasons which led the potes to stay on the daily of loiceiras (woman potters) in the agreste central region of Pernambuco state - Brazil. At the same time, questioning the gradual abandonment of panelas de barro (emic category of pottery for cooking) use, among other items of loiça de barro (emic category for pottery in general). I explore the materiality of the potes from their relations with the semi-arid environment and with the sertanejos (peasants), represented by the loiceiras of the agreste, presenting it within the domestic daily life, synchronous and diachronically from the historical and ethnographic points of view. I present primary historical documentation related to the production, commercialization and use of potes from the end of the 19th century until the middle of the 20th century. I discuss the ethnography under three aspects. First recording the processes of potes production by loci of Belo Jardim, Altinho and Bezerros, in the state of Pernambuco. Second performing an ethnography of the change and the permanence of pottery items of the sertanejos material culture. Third place reflecting thinking about the traditional knowledge safeguard needs involved in knowhow of loiça de barro making as intangible cultural heritage. From the analysis of these aspects, I argue that the permanence of potes in sertanejos domestic daily life is a form of resistance to semi-arid environment, to marginalization of these populations and to colonialism, which is triggered from an affective memory related to the use of these potes. This study was financed in part by the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - Brasil (CAPES) - Finance Code 001.

The Mind's Eye: Reconstructing the Historian's Semantic Matrix Through Henry Knighton's Account of the Peasants' Revolt, 1381

Keeshan, Sarah Marilyn Steeves 12 December 2011 (has links)
The medieval historian engaged with the systems of power and authority that surrounded him. In his account of the Peasants' Revolt in late medieval England, the ecclesiastical historian Henry Knighton (d. 1396) both reinforced and challenged the traditional order. This thesis explores the ways in which his ideological perspectives shaped his understanding of the events of June 1381 and how this understanding was articulated through the structure, language, and cultural meaning of the historical text. The reconstruction of authorial intention and reclamation of both Knighton and the medieval reader as active participants in the creation of history challenge a historiography that has long disregarded Knighton as an unremarkable historical recorder. Instead, they reveal a scholar whose often extraordinary approach to the rebels and traditional authorities expresses a great deal about the theory, practice, and construction of power and authority in late medieval England.

"A Beautiful Picture of Chaos": La Vía Campesina and the Convergence of Food Sovereignty and Climate Justice

Dale, Bryan 22 November 2013 (has links)
La Vía Campesina is an international network of peasant farmers that, since 1996, has promoted the concept of food sovereignty. More recently, this collection of over 160 groups worldwide has been connecting this concept with climate justice issues. Drawing on interviews conducted during the 2012 People’s Summit that took place in Rio de Janeiro, and an analysis of the network’s documents, I consider its work in relation to its member organizations and a broader movement tackling the systemic issues that are driving a range of social, economic and ecological crises. I contend that, while many of Vía Campesina’s proposals will require the establishment of intricate processes and systems depending on the geographic, political and cultural context in question, the network is demonstrating that its radical critiques, proposals and decision-making processes may help contribute to a larger counter-hegemonic narrative as a force to counteract global capitalism.
