[en] METHODOLOGIES IN HIGHER EDUCATION: A PATH TOWARDS PEDAGOGICAL INNOVATION / [pt] METODOLOGIAS ATIVAS NO ENSINO SUPERIOR: UM CAMINHO PARA A INOVAÇÃO PEDAGÓGICA

GABRIELA GONCALVES OZORIO 02 September 2020 (has links)
[en] The globalized and Internet-connected world has provided the stage for profound social, cultural and economic changes. In particular, it has witnessed the emergence of new behaviors and a strong and relentless demand for new products and services. A continued search for novelties also takes place in the context of Higher Education (HE), a sector facing the challenge of innovation posed by discourses that suggest there is an encompassing and deep crisis affecting educational institutions. Innovation in educational contexts, however, tends to be conceived, in a reductionist way, as the simple integration of digital technologies in the classroom. Discussion on pedagogical innovation, in particular, needs to move beyond the preconception that teachers are resistant to change. In this sense, the concept of Active Methodologies (AM) is widely disseminated and presented in the specialized literature as a solution to the problem of innovation in education. In this context, the main aim of this research has been to investigate the theoretical-pedagogical conceptions of HE teachers, in order to identify possible uses of active methodologies as a path towards pedagogical innovation in HE. The investigation, of a qualitative nature, had the following specific objectives: 1) to analyze spaces and modes of continuing education undertaken by teachers in HE; 2) to identify practices and meanings of innovative pedagogy in Higher Education; and 3) to examine contributions of active methodologies to pedagogical innovation in Higher Education. Field research was conducted at the Centre for Theology and Humanities at PUC-Rio, where a significant variety of sub-areas of knowledge is represented. Data collection involved the use of a diagnostic questionnaire sent to all teachers at the Centre (N equal 362), as well as in-depth interviews with five volunteers identified from the group of respondents, conducted between October 2019 and March 2020. The corpus of discursive data was examined through a categorical content analysis. The theoretical basis adopted included literature on innovation in HE, in addition to research in the field of Education that presented contributions on the uses of active methodologies in HE. Findings were organized according to the following categories defined for the analysis: pathways in the teaching profession; classroom planning and dynamics; conceptions of innovation; and conceptions of active methodologies. The study concluded that, although teachers do not always claim to be familiar with the concept of AM, which is a relatively recent label, many of the teaching strategies reported by them are consistent with the practices and theoretical foundations of MA discussed in the relevant literature. On the one hand, findings suggest there is space for pedagogical innovation in terms of adaptation to new contexts and demands for education. On the other hand, they also indicate that ideas surrounding stimulating student activity and protagonism may already be an integral, albeit tacit, part of the theoretical and methodological basis of HE teachers much more widely than MA advocacy discourses appear to suggest.

Stockless, Alain 06 1900 (has links)
With the ever increasing place that information and communication technologies (ICT) occupy in education, we sought to understand the process by which teaching innovations, by means of ICT, were adopted in classrooms. More specifically, the context of innovation in this study was set up through a Leaning Management System (LMS). In order to do this, a LMS was set up for the secondary school teachers and students of a greater Montreal area school board. As a premise, teachers did not have access to LMS and the majority had never been in contact with LMS as teachers or learners. We could therefore consider this learning situation as being innovative in and of itself. Thus, it is in this innovative teaching context, using ICT, that this research was carried out. The general objective of our research was to set up a LMS prototype in order to identify the factors which support the adoption of teaching innovations by secondary school teachers. Then, we wanted to see to what extent the teacher’s perceptions of the LMS gave them the impression that the pedagogical design functions used were useful and how the affordances was perceived. This made it possible for us to determine principles of design that would allow teachers to better exploit ICT in a LMS. To carry out this research, we used the Design-Based Research methodological approach. Thus, we carried out three iterations each of which involved one cycle characterized by the design of a prototype, its implementation in an authentic setting and its evaluation. The objective of the first iteration was mainly exploratory. It aimed at the implementation and the experimentation of the LMS in preparation for a broader distribution. A group interview and logbook entries made it possible to document this iteration. The results obtained tend to show that the LMS was relevant for teachers. However, we also observed that a set of adaptations and modifications were necessary before carrying out the broader distribution of the platform. By making these interventions, we wanted to make sure that the LMS catered to the teaching context and the teachers’ reality as best as possible. In the second iteration, we used Davis, Bagozzi and Warshaw (1989) Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to identify the factors which support the adoption of a LMS. The results of this phase indicate that, on the one hand, our data conforms well with the TAM model and that, on the other hand, the perceived usefulness dimension appears to be a good predictor of the adoption of the LMS by teachers. For the third iteration, we implemented a participatory design of teaching features process with nine teachers divided into two sites. This approach was aimed at analyzing teacher perceptions concerning the LMS. This iteration was evaluated using semi-directed interviews. Result analysis enabled us to confirm the utility of the LMS, more specifically with respect to the level of reinvestment of the activities carried out. In addition, teachers mentioned the importance of training and coaching in the design of teaching features process. In this iteration, we also wanted to see the extent to which the affordances of ICT was perceived in the LMS. This intervention process involved placing teachers in a situation of perception of affordances as well. This, however, did not allow us to articulate a direct relationship between designing teaching features and their implementation in authentic contexts with the explicit perceptions of affordances of the LMS.

PERFORMANCE MULTIDISCIPLINAR NAS AÇÕES DE PESQUISA, DESENVOLVIMENTO E CAPACITAÇÃO: PRODUÇÃO DE MATERIAIS DIDÁTICOS HIPERMIDIÁTICOS NO MOODLE / MULTIDISCIPLINARY PERFORMANCE IN THE ACTIONS OF RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING: PRODUCTION OF HYPERMEDIATIC DIDACTIC MATERIALS ON THE MOODLE

Jacques, Juliana Sales 20 March 2014 (has links)
This study investigated the performance of the Multidisciplinary Team of the Open University of Brazil (UAB) at the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM), concerning the actions of research, development and training for the production of hypermediatic didactic materials on the Moodle. The objectives are as listed: track and record the actions in the orientation process of the didactic materials preparation on the Moodle; update the Perfo_List indicators form as a methodology for the retrospective and prospective actions in the team; program a subject on the Moodle in order to exemplify the hypermediatic resources associated to the study activities; and elaborate indicators of pedagogical orientation to the hypermediatic structuring of resources and study activities in the virtual environment. An action research was developed, in order to achieve the proposed objectives, establishing cyclic planning stages, implementation, evaluation and replanning of the actions that pervade the development of hypermediatic didactic materials. The action research strategies were supported by the propositions of three mediator matrices: the Dialogical-Problem Posing Matrix (DPM), the Theme-Organizer Matrix (TOM) and the Theme-Analytical Matrix (TAM), which respectively guided the data collection, organization and analysis. The research instruments (diary of participant observations and survey questionnaires) were steered by the sixteen questions of the DPM and by the Perfo_List form indicators. Therefore, the action research is structured in five chapters, reasoned by the Freirean concept of Dialogical Problem-Posing Education, the Actor-Network Theory and the Study Activity Theory. In the light of the analytical categories elected (technological and pedagogical innovation and collaborative interaction), the research action results, which are sustained by data triangulation, indicate that the multidisciplinary performance enhances the integration of hypermedia in the development of didactic materials. Thus, actions of research, development and training, guided by the collaborative interaction of the team, generate technological and pedagogical innovation that boosts the teaching and learning mediated by network technologies.

Bartosova, Lucie 12 1900 (has links)
The existence of multiple French second language services in Quebec for adult immigrants has proved to be problematic, especially when students transfer from one institution to another (Québec, MICC, 2011a). In response to this and other similar issues and in order to harmonize government French second language services, the ministère de l'Immigration et des Communautés culturelles (MICC) developed, in collaboration with the ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport (MELS) a pedagogical innovation composed of two tools: the Échelle québécoise des niveaux de compétence en français des personnes immigrantes adultes and the Programme-cadre de français pour les personnes immigrantes adultes au Québec. This common framework of reference for language is used to describe the achievements of adult immigrant learners in Quebec. This study focuses on the implementation of a pedagogical innovation, in order to gain a greater understanding of the implementation of the Quebec framework of reference, present teacher representations regarding this pedagogical innovation, and identify the key factors that structure its implementation. This qualitative study adopted an implementation model by Vince-Whitman (2009) who identifies twelve implementation factors of a policy and its practice. Our study used as its data collection method group interviews of a total of twelve French second language teachers from the MICC and the MELS. The interviews aimed to collect the comments of these teachers regarding their pedagogical practices and their impressions of the Quebec framework of reference. The software QSF NVivo 8 was used to analyze the content of our participants’ words. Key findings of the study indicate that implementation is challenging due to a number of obstacles, such as the lack of teaching material, human and financial resources, as well as a lack of time, professional training and professional collaborations. In light of these results, we developed a model framework based on seven factors of implementation of a pedagogical innovation in order to account for a specific and contemporary phenomenon, that of the implementation of the Quebec framework of reference for French second language education of adult immigrants. Various studies coupled with our results demonstrate that different types of support, such as appropriate and sufficient pedagogical material, are key elements to consider in ensuring successful implementation of a pedagogical innovation.

Yes, but how ? : Evaluation of policies and pedagogical innovation of ICT integration into the higher Palestinian educational system

Hijjawi, Tharwat 14 January 2013 (has links)
The objective of this research is to evaluate the integration of ICT in Palestinian universities for foreign language teaching: the case of RUFO and QIF projects. By adopting a constructivist theoretical approach, this study is conducted on three levels: micro (teachers and students), meso (on line courses) and macro (policy of the university and the Ministry of Education). The research is based on a qualitative and comprehensive methodology. A content analysis was applied to the triple collected data (interviews, excerpts from on line courses, official excerpts) The findings show that current teaching practices have not evolved as a result of the integration of ICT; the use of this new modality has amplified the existing traditional and directive practices; sometimes it has moved them backward. The main conclusion is that it is not possible to innovate without changing the educational paradigm and shifting from a teaching-centered model to a learning- centered one. Development of higher education requires the implementation of: a complex and cooperative educative engineering, a bidirectional and transversal management process of the innovation, and a training-coaching at all levels.

Based on the qualitative methodology, the focus group technique (GATTI, 2012) was used to data collect of this study with two students groups of the 1st module of informatics course of a public technical school of the São Paulo’s city. For the treatment of the data was performed content analysis (FRANCO, 2008) of the transcripts of the meeting conducted with each one of the groups and from the questionnaire answers filled individually by students. The results of this study are: i. the verification of the favorable innovative pedagogical possibilities with the use of smartphones, yet with challenges and attention points for the use of these in a pedagogical way, taking into view the discussion of regulation and reliance on mobile technology; ii. the training of the school community about the use of smartphones as innovative pedagogical possibility; iii. the experiences presented by research and by students as favorable to the adoption of possible policies of inclusion of smartphone as a tool to support pedagogical practices. It was concluded, therefore, based on the look of the students that there are possibilities to create pedagogical innovations with the use of smartphones in learning institutions, considering the guidelines that can be built collectively and in a participatory manner by the own educational community in the context of the elaboration process of its Political-Pedagogical Project.
