Determinants of wearing a bicycle helmet were examined. Interindividual differences in helmet wearing were formalized with three different health psychological theories. The Protection Motivation Theory (PMT) [1], explains intention for a health behavior using subjective beliefs on the efficacy and costs of a specific health behavior, self-efficacy and risk and severity of negative consequences as well as benefits of not doing said behavior. The Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) [2] uses attitude, subjective norms and behavioral control about a (health) behavior to predict intention to a behavior, which in turn can predict actual behavior. Lastly, the Health Action Process Approach (HAPA) [3] is similar to PMT, but puts more emphasis on self-efficacy while omitting costs of beneficial behavior. lt includes both intention and behavior, as well as planning as an intermediate step between intention and behavior. Understanding Process Improvement: Social Psychological Factors Affecting the Use of Project Management Practices

To facilitate a better understanding of the social psychological factors that influence adoption of project management practices, this study draws upon the theory of reasoned action (TRA) and the theory of planned behavior (TPB) from social psychology, and the technology acceptance model (TAM) from information systems research. These models define and relate a number of belief constructs that predict the acceptance of technologies in a variety of settings. In general, the three models each have relatively consistent empirical support, with comparison studies showing mixed support for each of the models being the moderately "better" model. In the current study, the three models are thoroughly integrated using a latent constructs approach and structural equation modeling (SEM) techniques. Overall, constructs from TRA and TAM, but not TPB, predict the use of specific project estimating, plan development, and plan commitment practices defined in the Capability Maturity Models (CMM/I).

En viktig fråga för hur våra städer och samhällen ska bli mer hållbara är hur andelen hållbart resande kan öka, samt hur bilanvändandet kan minska. Mobility management är ett koncept inom vilken man implementerar mjuka åtgärder för att öka det hållbara resandet. Det används dock främst i stadsmiljöer. Denna studie undersöker om och i sådant fall hur mobility management-åtgärder skulle kunna implementeras i området Lindbacken i Uppsala. Lindbacken är ett småhusområde, beläget på glesbygden ungefär en mil utanför centrala Uppsala. Detta gör att området till synes inte är passande för denna typ av åtgärder. En fallstudie genomfördes för att skapa en förståelse för Lindbacken som område och dess invånare. Den var uppdelat i tre delar: en områdesstudie med insamling av sekundär statistik och inventering av området, en enkätstudie för att skapa en förståelse för de boendes attityder och resebeteenden samt en intervjustudie med representanter från Uppsala kommun och kollektivtrafikaktören UL. Tillsammans med tidigare forskning utgjorde fallstudien grunden för studiens analys och slutsats. Som teoretiskt ramverk användes de tre miljöpsykologiteorierna Theory of Reasoned Action, Theory of Planned Behavior och Goal-framing Theory. Från studien framgår att mobility management-åtgärder skulle kunna implementeras i Lindbacken, men att dessa bör kombineras med fysiska åtgärder för att ge bäst effekt. Åtgärderna bör fokusera på att stärka invånarnas känsla av kontroll över trafiksituationer kopplade till hållbart resande, exempelvis kopplat till tidseffektivitet. Åtgärderna bör också verka för att stärka en positiv attityd gentemot hållbart resande samt för att motivera beteenden som efterlevs med målet att göra vad som anses lämpligt. / An important question for how to make our cities and societies more sustainable, is how to increase the amount of sustainable travel as well as reducing car-use. Mobility management is a concept in which soft measures are implemented to increase sustainable travel. It is, however, mostly used within urban areas. This study explores if and how mobility management measures could be implemented in the area Lindbacken in Uppsala. Lindbacken is a residential area in the rural outskirts of Uppsala, about 10 kilometers from the city center, thus making it seemingly less appropriate for this kind of measures. A case study was performed to create an understanding for the area of Lindbacken and the residents. It was divided into three parts: an area study consisting of collecting secondary statistics and making an inventory study of the area, a questionnaire study to gain an understanding of the residents’ attitudes and travel behaviors, and an interview study with representatives from Uppsala municipality and the public transport actor UL. Together with previous research in the field, the case study was the foundation for the analysis and conclusion of the study. As a theoretical framework the three environmental psychology theories Theory of Reasoned Action, Theory of Planned Behavior and Goal-framing Theory was used. The study makes clear that mobility management measures could be implemented in Lindbacken. They should however be combined with hard, physical measures to gain the best effects. The measures should focus on strengthening the residents’ feeling of control in relation to traffic situation connected to sustainable travel, e.g. when it comes to time efficiency. The measures should also work to strengthen positive attitudes towards sustainable travel, as well as motivating behaviors that is acted out with the goal to do what is considered most appropriate.

This thesis attempts to analyze the factors that affect the behavioral intentiontowards purchasing apparels through the Internet. A combination of TechnologyAcceptance Model and Theory of Planned Behavior along with constructs of Trustand Perceived Risk was chosen as the basis of framework for this study to explainhow online consumers behave while purchasing garments online and to illustrate thestrength of the relationship between consumers intention and constructs of attitude,Perceived Usefulness, Perceived Ease of Use, Subjective Norms, PerceivedBehavioral Control, Perceived Risk, and Trust. A pilot study along with severalinterviews was conducted to create a basis for the final questionnaire, which led to thedata gathered from 347 people of Iranian society. The measures and hypotheses wereanalyzed using Multiple Regression analysis. Syftet med studien är att undersöka hur oro för klimatet påverkar konsumenters köpintentioner av återvunna kläder. På grund av pågående klimatförändringar måste populationen ändra sitt konsumtionsbeteende mot en mer miljömässigt hållbar strategi. Återvunna kläder ger ett mindre avtryck på klimatet eftersom det krävs mindre energi att producera och genererar mindre avfall. Tidigare forskning visar att män och kvinnor har olika köpintentioner när det kommer till miljömässigt hållbara kläder. Med utgångspunkt från tidigare forskningsfynd kommer denna studie även att undersöka om kön är en faktor som påverkar till vilken grad respondenterna oroar sig över klimatet. En kvantitativ datainsamlingsmetod används genom en webbenkät. Resultaten från en korrelations- och regressionsanalys visar att oro för klimatet påverkar köpintentionen av återvunna kläder. Resultatet visar även att kön bär en betydande roll i hur oroade respondenterna är över klimatet. Denna studie bekräftar teorin om planerat beteende och forskningen visar hur beteendemässiga övertygelser påverkar intentioner och därmed beteenden. / The purpose of this study is to investigate how environmental concerns affect consumers' purchase intentions of recycled clothing. Because of ongoing climate change, the population must change their consumption behavior towards a more sustainable approach. Recycled clothing has a smaller impact on the environment since less energy is needed in the production and it gives less waste. Previous research shows that men and women have different purchase intentions when it comes to sustainable clothing. Because of findings from previous research, this study will examine if gender is a factor that affects environmental concerns. A quantitative collection method is applied through an online survey. The result from a correlation- and regression analysis shows that environmental concern affects purchase intentions of recycled clothing. Findings from the study also included that gender plays a role in how concerned the respondents were for the environment. The study validates the theory of planned behavior model and the research displays how behavioral beliefs affect intentions and therefore behaviors.

Organizational Safety Culture And Idividual Safety Behavior: A Case Study Of The Turkish National Police Aviation Department

Human related accidents in high-risk industries amount to a significant economic hazard and incur tremendous damages, causing excessive operational costs and loss of life. The aviation industry now observes human-related accidents more frequently than in the past, an upswing attributable to cutting-edge technology usage and the complex systems employed by aviation organizations. Historically, aviation accidents have been attributed to individual unsafe behavior. However, contemporary accident causation models suggest that organizational-level factors influence individual safety performance, as human-related accidents take place in an organizational context. The present study examines the formation of organizational safety culture and influence on individuals' safety behavior in a police aviation environment. The theory of planned behavior guides the study model in explaining individual variability in safety behavior via organizational safety culture. The study conceptualized organizational safety culture and individual safety behavior as multidimensional constructs. Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted for each latent construct to validate the construct validity for each measurement model. Organizational safety culture was observed via safety climate facets, which contained four subcomponents including individual attitude, group norms, management attitude, and workplace pressures. Individual safety behavior contained violation and error components observed by self-reported statements. Structural equation modeling was conducted to test the study hypotheses. Utilizing a sample of 210 employees from the Turkish National Police Aviation Department, a 53-item survey was conducted to measure individuals' safety culture perceptions and self-reported safety behaviors. The results suggest that individual safety behavior is significantly influenced by organizational safety culture. Except for the relation between workplace pressures and intention, all suggested relations and correlations were statistically significant. The four-factor measurement model of organizational safety climate fit reasonably well to the data, and most correlations between the safety climate components were significant at the .05 level. Individuals' self-reported error behavior is positively associated with age, and individuals' self-reported violation behavior is positively associated with years of service. Overall, along with organizational safety culture, age and service-year variables accounted for 65% of the variance in intention, 55% of the variance in violation behavior, and 68% of the variance in error behavior. Lastly, no significant difference manifested among pilots, maintenance personnel, and office staff according to their self-related safety behaviors. The findings have theoretical, policy, and managerial implications. First, the theory of planned behavior was tested, and its usefulness in explaining individuals' safety behavior was demonstrated. The survey instrument of the study, and multi-dimensional measurement models for organizational safety climate and individual safety behavior were theoretical contributions of the study. Second, the emergence of informal organizational structures and their effects on individuals indicated several policy implications. The study also revealed the importance of informal structures in organizations performing in high-risk environments, especially in designing safety systems, safety policies, and regulations. Policy modification was suggested to overcome anticipated obstacles and the perceived difficulty of working with safety procedures. The influences of age on error behavior and years of service on violation behavior point to the need for several policy modifications regarding task assignment, personnel recruitment, health reports, and violation assessment policies. As well, managerial implications were suggested, including changing individuals' perceptions of management and group attitudes toward safety. The negative influence of anticipated obstacles and the perceived difficulties of safety procedures on individual safety behavior pointed out management's role in reducing risks and accidents by designing intervention programs to improve safety performance, and formulating proactive solutions for problems typically leading to accidents and injuries.
