Poem Without a Hero” by Anna Akhmatova: Poetics of Inkompleteness

Menshchikova, A. M., Меньщикова, А. М. January 2014 (has links)
The master’s thesis «“Poem Without a Hero” by Anna Akhmatova: Poetics of Inkompleteness» makes an attempt to investigate one of the main works of A. Akhmatova’s late period from the perspective of the phenomenon of incompleteness. The logic of studying is determined by two important aspects of the phenomenon – aesthetic and ontological. The first chapter is devoted to the theoretical grounds for the incompleteness. Some peculiarities of the verse ordonnance are considered in the second chapter. The specificity of the creative mind expressed in the fundamental text categories such as subjectival and spatiotemporal ordonnances is considered in the third chapter. Generally the master’s thesis is the basis for distinguishing some general principles of inkompleteness. These principles seem to be concerned with the «Poem Without a Hero» creative history.

Côté, Thierry 08 1900 (has links)
In this thesis, I analyze the three pieces composed as part of my master's degree in music, option composition and sound creation, at Université de Montréal. I describe my creative process and I present the challenges that I faced throughout, especially regarding the narrative side of my pieces and its polystylistics impacts. I especially explain how I reconcile the plurality of inspirations drawn accordingly to my narrative needs despite a desire for aesthetic uniformity and formal coherence within each piece. They are therefore presented in chronological order and go as follows: 1: La prison de glace. A 15 minutes cycle of four poems for baritone and piano 2: L’épinette noire. Narratively abstract piece written for string quartet of about 5 minutes. 3: La Dame blanche. A 55 minutes ballet for symphonic orchestra inspired by the La Dame blanche de la chute Montmorency legend, lasting about 55 minutes. Keywords: Polyscalar Continuum, narrativity, composition, polystylism, ballet, quartet, poem, music

The religious crisis in the poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins.

Giles, Roy James 31 January 2003 (has links)
Gerard Manley Hopkins produced poetry in the Victorian era which was noted for its originality of syntax and form. The essence underlying a large body of his poetry was his Catholic religion. His early religious poetry utilized nature-based metaphors to express his love of Christ and trace the immanence of God within nature. He borrowed heavily from the aesthetics of Pater and the philosophy of Duns Scotus. The dissertation explores these early influences and assesses their contribution to the formation of a unique religious interpretation of life and the formulation of an aesthetic congruent with this religion. The dissertation dissects early symptoms of religious doubt within his poetry and finally analyses his `Terrible Sonnet' phase in detail to ascertain whether the crisis so often described as occurring during this period was religious or merely reflected a loss of creative ability. / English Studies / MA (English)

The “Man Walks Outside Time Now”: Verbal Representations of Photographic Images in the Poems of Larry Levis

Miner, Lauren 30 July 2012 (has links)
The poet Larry Levis often employed ekphrasis as an elegiac device—particularly with his verbal descriptions of photographic images—to explore human suffering and reconcile feelings of loss. Through the ekphrastic mode, Levis could juxtapose otherwise disparate images, manipulating their temporal and spatial relationships, to achieve what he conceived an authentic portrait of the human experience. The poet, through his verbal descriptions of photographic images, does not try to evade the pain or joy of being human; instead, he confronts his grief directly and, in so doing, transcends that suffering to better understand himself and his own human position. This thesis analyzes the following poems by Larry Levis: “My Only Photograph of Weldon Kees,” “García Lorca: A Photograph of the Granada Cemetery, 1966,” “The Assimilation of the Gypsies,” “Sensationalism,” and “Photograph: Migrant Worker, Parlier, California, 1967.”

Klasová, Ráchel January 2015 (has links)
The thesis examines the usage of the method of structured drama in explaining the content of a classical piece of music to pupils on Primary school. The thesis focuses also on the used method, especially its goals, techniques and topics used on the Primary school. The research section describes hypothesis, methodology, preparation, realization and the results of an experiment, on several Primary schools. Experimental groups where introduced to the content of the B. Smetana's symphonic poem Šárka by structured drama. Control groups were familiarized with it only by reading and verbal explaining. Smetana, understanding, realization, Primary school, cross-curricular relations, listening.
