Maurício Liska Borba 19 October 2015 (has links)
The Agua Rica and Bajo de la Alumbrera Cu-Au (Mo) porphyry-type deposits, NW Argentina, are genetically associated with the Farallón Negro Volcanic Complex, Miocene age. These world-class deposits of Bajo de la Alumbrera and Agua Rica, located into the tectonic context of the Central Andes, Geological Province of the Sierras Pampeanas, are Cu-Au (Mo) porphyry-type, although the Agua Rica deposit has a number of epithermal features and a supergene enrichment phase. Isotopic studies and high-resolution geochronology were carried out for the two deposits, aiming to investigate the source of the mineralization and crustal influence in its genesis, and ages for the Agua Rica porphyries. Pb isotopes show that the whole-rock samples from Bajo de la Alumbrera are less radiogenic than those from Agua Rica, with close ratio values. The whole-rock samples from Agua Rica show higher dispersion compared to Bajo de la Alumbrera. The pyrite samples from both deposits present similar ratios, which allows grouping them. The Pb isotopic compositions of sulfides and host rocks for the Agua Rica deposit and Bajo de la Alumbrera indicated that, despite the difference in the lithology present in the two deposits, the values obtained are close and very homogeneous. Sulfide samples from Bajo de la Alumbrera show ratios of \'ANTPOT.206 Pb\'/ \'ANTPOT.204 Pb\', \'ANTPOT.207 Pb\'/ \'ANTPOT.204 Pb\' and \'ANTPOT.208 Pb\'/ \'ANTPOT.204 Pb\' very close to the whole-rock ratios, but with a slight enrichment in radiogenic Pb. Sulfide samples from Agua Rica present variable distribution, however, the pyrite samples from diorite and from metasandstone present ratios close to the pyrite from Bajo de la Alumbrera. This ratios similarity could be interpreted as similar conditions and sources to these sulfides. The Sr and Nd isotopes obtained and combined with literature data may suggest more evidence on the source of magmas and fluids for these deposits. Rocks with juvenile pattern, incorporated during the Andean orogeny, are one group observed, but there are also rocks that indicate the presence of crustal contamination, not homogeneous, with variations in Epsilon Nd(t) positive to negative. U-Pb SHRIMP-IIe zircon ages in the porphyries Trampeadero and Quebrada Seca, from the Agua Rica deposit, presented ages of 6.20 ± 0.16 Ma and 5.66 ± 0.22 Ma, respectively. These ages indicate a short time interval between these intrusions, of about 0.54 Ma, and represent the youngest ages obtained for Agua Rica by U-Pb SHRIMP zircon. A Re-Os isochron obtained in pyrite to the Agua Rica deposit of 6.4 ± 2.8 Ma is consistent with the evolution of this deposit. This age, combined with the U-Pb SHRIMP zircon ages matches the main magmatic phase and shows that the main mineralization phase is coeval to the intrusions. Based on these data, it is suggested that the genesis of the Agua Rica deposit was coeval to the last magmatic stages of Bajo de la Alumbrera, and this marks the youngest ages to the Farallón Negro Volcanic Complex rocks. In addition, the crustal participation was significant in the genesis of these deposits, with a major component in the Agua Rica deposit, because the fluids interaction with the Paleozoic basement. Based on this study, we indicated that in flat-subduction zones, the mineral deposits generated present more significant interaction with the crustal fluids than those normal subduction zones.

Kettani, Ismael 04 1900 (has links)
This thesis is a detailed study of the Plotinus’ and Porphyry’s writings on Aristotle’s Categories. Thus, Porphyry’s Commentary on the Categories and Plotinus’ Enneads VI, 1-3 are the main sources of my study. My reading of these works is conditioned by a precise aim: to establish whether these two Neoplatonists agreed or disagreed on their interpretation and their evaluation of the Categories. To accomplish this task, I have extensively commented the most important passages (in relation to my aim) of Porphyry’s Commentary on the Categories and, then, of the Enneads VI, 1-3. Finally, I have compared the results of my inquiry on each of these two philosophers while replacing them in the context of the ongoing debates about the Categories at the time. It is my contention that the inquiry conducted in this thesis clearly shows a disagreement between Plotinus and his disciple. Despite some similarities in their general interpretation of the Categories, their appreciation of this work is diametrically opposed: Plotinus criticizes it while Porphyry defends it. In fact, I argue that the similarities in their general approach to the Categories exacerbates their disagreement: their comments are in direct conflict precisely because they partially agree about what the Categories are.

Magmatic-Hydrothermal Events, Mineralogy and Geochemistry of Tourmaline Breccia in the Giant Río Blanco – Los Bronces Porphyry Copper Deposit, Central Chile

Hohf Riveros, Michael 26 April 2021 (has links)
The Río Blanco–Los Bronces (Chile) is one of the richest endowed porphyry copper-molybdenum districts worldwide, where about 20% of the known mineralization is hosted by tourmaline-cemented hydrothermal breccia. This work seeks: (1) to find a relationship between tourmaline chemical and/or isotopic composition and the degree of mineralization in the breccia, (2) to constrain the source of the mineralizing fluid in the breccia, and (3) to determine of the composition and age of intrusive units in three new exploration projects and correlate them with the known intrusive rocks of the mine areas. Tourmaline from mineralized and barren breccias has similar boron isotopic compositions but differences in Mg/(Mg+Fe) ratios, Al-contents and Al-Fe correlation, which may have exploration value. Boron and sulfur isotopes results are consistent with a magmatic source of hydrothermal fluids. Results of whole rock geochemistry and U-Pb and 40Ar/39Ar geochronology of intrusive units, breccia and late-stage veins are combined with previous U-Pb, Ar/Ar and Re-Os ages to elucidate the magmatic and hydrothermal history of the district.:1 Introduction 1.1 Motivation of the study and statement of research questions 1.2 Scope of the study 2 Porphyry copper deposits (PCDs) 2.1 Introduction 2.1.1 Global copper inventory 2.1.2 Definition and classification of PCDs 2.2 Regional scale characteristics of PCDs 2.2.1 Tectonic setting 2.2.2 Space and time distribution 2.2.3 Porphyry stocks and their pluton and volcanic connections 2.2.4 Wall-rock Influence 2.3 Deposit-scale characteristics 2.3.1 Porphyry stocks and dikes 2.3.2 Hydrothermal breccia 2.3.3 Alteration-mineralization zoning 2.4 Processes of PCD formation 2.4.1 Arc magmatism 2.4.2 Magmatic volatiles 2.4.3 Genetic models 3 Regional setting of the study area 3.1 Tectono-magmatic setting 3.2 Metallogenic belts 4 Río Blanco – Los Bronces mining district 4.1 Mining history 4.2 District geology 4.2.1 Stratified rocks 4.2.2 Plutonic and hypabyssal intrusions 4.2.3 Structures 4.2.4 Alteration and mineralization 4.2.1 Geochronology database 5 Results 5.1 Plutonic units 5.1.1 Petrography 5.1.2 Whole rock (WR) geochemistry 5.1.3 Geochronology 5.2 Mineralization 5.2.1 Petrography 5.2.2 Tourmaline occurrence and composition 5.2.3 Sulfides and sulfates 6 Discussion 6.1 Time-space relationships of intrusion, brecciation and hydrothermal alteration 6.2 Stable isotope constraints on fluid source and evolution 6.2.1 Oxygen, hydrogen and sulfur isotopes 6.2.2 Boron isotopes 6.3 Tourmaline as a redox indicator and significance for exploration 7 Summary and conclusions 8 References Digital supplement Appendix (Methods) 9 Appendix Methods 9.1 Optical microscopy (OM) 9.2 Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) 9.3 Whole rock chemical analysis 9.4 Electron microprobe analyses (EMPA) 9.5 Boron isotopes 9.6 Sulfur isotopes 9.7 40Ar/39Ar dating 9.8 Zircon separation and characterization 9.9 U-Pb zircon LA-ICP-MS dating 9.10 U-Pb zircon CA-ID-TIMS dating 9.11 Single zircon evaporation as screening method

Gênese das mineralizações associadas ao magmatismo ácido na região do Garimpo do Papagaio, noroeste da Província Aurífera de Alta Floresta (MT) / Mineralizations genesis associated with acid magmatism in the Papagaio artisanal mining region, northwest of Alta Floresta Gold Province (MT)

Galé, Marcelo Garcia 09 November 2018 (has links)
The Alta Floresta Gold Province is situated on the southern portion of Amazonian Craton and forms an elongate region with WNW-ESSE direction where auriferous deposits are associated with Paleoproterozoic plutonovolcanic magmatism. The area of research covers the Papagaio artisanal gold mining, located in Paranaíta, Mato Grosso. During geological mapping, plutonic to subvolcanic rocks bodies of granodioritic and granitic compositions were identified, as well as dacitic and rhyolitic volcanic and pyroclastic rocks. These lithotypes belong to the calc-alkaline series of medium to high potassium, meta- to peraluminous corresponding to type I granites of volcanic arc in an active continental margin. U-Pb ages showed that magmatism in the region has crystallized in the range of 1.80-1.78 Ga with inherited zircons up to 2.1 Ga, showing evidence of a deeper and older crust during subduction. \'épsilon\'Nd (t) data showed the contribution of crustal and mantle material in the source with TDM age between 2.15- 2.02 Ga. These data revealed that volcanism in the area belongs to the Colíder Suite, corresponding to a magmatism that was active for approximately 16 Ma and evolved from dacitic to a rhyolitic composition. The mining prospect occurs on gold mineralization with copper, zinc and low levels of lead, preferably confined in veins that cut potassic, seritic and propylitic alteration halos. The existing veins in the region evolve systematically into six types: (I) Barren quartz vein associated with potassic alteration halo; (II) Quartz vein with ore minerals, sometimes associated with sericitic halo; (III) Sulphide vein with a well developed sericitic alteration halo in the salbands; (IV) and (V) Late quartz and carbonate veins; (VI) system of quartz veins newer and unrelated to deposit evolution. The first three types are similar to A-B-D system described in porphyry deposits, while the newer ones have characteristics of a shallower and epithermal environment. Gold occurs mainly in the central zone of the type II veins, in paragenesis with chalcopyrite + sphalerite + pyrite ± galena ± magnetite. The quartz of the veins underwent different intensities of recrystallization due to subsequent hydrothermal pulses and cathodoluminescence images showed that aquocarbonic fluid inclusions represent primary fluids with important participation in metalliferous content transportation. The results of D, O and S stable isotope in hydrothermal quartz, sericite and pyrite show that fluids are magmatic with meteoric contributions. In this context, the Papagaio artisanal mining developed on a continental magmatic arc, from the intrusion of hydrated and oxidized granite bodies that mark the final magmatic event of the Colíder Suite. It represents a porphyry deposit that was superimposed by epithermal intermediate-sulfidation characteristics as a result of hydrothermal telescoping, resulting from the lowering of the magma chamber.

Literary features of anti-Christian polemics in Antiquity

Piscini, Gianluca 13 December 2018 (has links)
This work deals with the fragments of Celsus’ True Discourse, Porphyry’s Against the Christians, Hierocles’ Truthful Discourse to the Christians and Julian’s Against the Galileans. Its purpose is to study the way these anti-Christian treatises use the literary tradition of Antiquity. In the first part, we discuss some problems related to the study of these works. In a second part, we study the polemical use of literary references in these texts. A third part is devoted to ad hominem attacks against biblical characters and against Christians. Finally, a fourth part studies the literary form of these works : the choice of the title and the audience, but also their structure and their literary genre.

Théurgie et mystagogie chez le néoplatonicien Proclus

Vachon, David 04 1900 (has links)
This thesis has for goal to present in detail the importance of theurgy in the philosophy of Proclus, as well as his link with mystagogy. One of the first objectives is to describe the causes of the emergence of theurgy during the late Antiquity. So, we present the historical setting from where emerges the notion of theurgy in the context of the process of Christianisation of the Empire starting during the 4th century. It is after that primordial to propose a clear definition of theurgy, something that the researchers haven’t done yet, as the ritual operation by which a material receptacle is animated by the divine. Then, we demonstrate that, even if the term “theurgy” is late, it finds however his roots in the long platonic tradition, from Plato to Proclus, passing by Plotinus, Porphyry, and Iamblichus. Following the historical aspect and after having clearly define the notion of theurgy, it is important to explain the status of theurgy in the philosophy of Proclus, especially by analyzing the crucial passage in TP, I, 25, where the Neoplatonist declares that theurgy is superior (κρείττων) to philosophy. Moreover, we examine two concrete theurgical rites presented in the Proclus’ works: the burial of the body (TP, IV, 9) and the immortalisation of Achille (In Remp., I, 152-152). After having exposed the intrinsically relation between theurgy and mystagogy, notably with the mystical silence (σιγή), we develop the implications of theurgy in the vast philosophical system of Proclus. These implications are monumental and touch many aspects: the status of the soul, the one of the matter, the ontology, the primacy of the soul’s vehicle (ὄχημα), the notion of imagination (φαντασία), the importance of symbols (σύμβολα et συνθήματα) and the role of love (ἔρως). We finally end this research by presenting the legacy of Proclus, especially through the work of the Christian Neoplatonist Pseudo-Dionysius.

A Re-Os Study of Sulfides from the Bagdad Porphyry Cu-Mo Deposit, Northern Arizona, USA

Barra-Pantoja, Luis Fernando January 2001 (has links)
Use of Re-Os systematics in sulfides from the Bagdad porphyry Cu-Mo deposit provide information on the timing of mineralization and the source of the ore -forming elements. Analyzed samples of pyrite, chalcopyrite and molybdenite mainly from the quartz monzonite and porphyritic quartz monzonite units are characterized by a moderate to strong potassic alteration (secondary biotite and K- feldspar). Rhenium concentrations in molybdenite are between 330 and 730 ppm. Two molybdenite samples from the quartz monzonite and porphyritic quartz monzonite provide a Re-Os isotope age of 71.7 ± 0.3 Ma. A third sample from a molybdenite vein in Precambrian rocks yields an age of 75.8 ± 0.4 Ma. These molybdenite ages support previous suggestions of two mineralization episodes in the Bagdad deposit. An early event at 76 Ma and a later episode at 72 Ma. Pyrite Os and Re concentrations range between 0.008-0.016 and 3.9-6.8 ppb, respectively. Chalcopyrite contains a wide range of Os (6 to 91 ppt) and Re (1.7 to 69 ppb) concentrations and variable ¹⁸⁷Os/¹⁸⁸Os ratios that range between 0.13 to 22.27. This variability in the chalcopyrite data may be attributed to different copper sources, one of them the Proterozoic volcanic massive sulfides in the district, or to alteration and remobilization of Re and Os. Analyses from two pyrite samples yield an eight point isochron with an age of 77 ± 15 Ma and an initial ¹⁸⁷Os/¹⁸⁸Os ratio of 2.12. This pyrite Re-Os isochron age is in good agreement with the molybdenite ages. We interpret the highly radiogenic initial 1870s/188Os as an indication that the source of Os and, by inference, the ore-forming elements for the Bagdad deposit, was mainly the crust. This conclusion agrees with previous Pb and Nd isotope studies and supports the notion that a significant part of the metals and magmas have a crustal source.
