Investigating the experiences of gratitude during organizational change

Titus, Shirleen January 2010 (has links)
Magister Commercii - MCom / The interpretation of this qualitative study indicates that individuals, teams and the organisation can benefit through allowing focus of unlocking that which provides a positive stimulus during challenging times in organisational settings. For social scientists, and in particular behavioural scientists, including industrial psychologists that are interested in positive psychology, it is hoped that there is an invitation to grow this area of research further and to gain new insights and direction for what are the enablers to experience positive change and gratitude. / South Africa

Linkages between emotional intelligence and coping strategies in mastering new educational technologies

Kruger, Janette 25 September 2008 (has links)
Technology-enhanced learning environments such as blended learning and e-learning are utilised increasingly in higher education institutions with expectations of an increase in output rates and retention rates. As the demand for technology-enhanced e-learning courses increases, the pressure on lecturing staff to rise to the challenge also increases. In recent years great advances and improvements in the fields of learning and instruction were envisaged as a consequence of the application of new educational technologies. Although some of these promises have materialised it would seem that relatively few lecturers have mastered the skills and knowledge needed to integrate technology successfully into the practice of teaching and learning. The role of emotional intelligence is a significant construct which has not been adequately researched in terms of the mastering of new technologies in the e-learning and blended learning environments. The purpose of the study is to explore and describe linkages between emotional intelligence and the ability to cope with mastering new educational technologies. It is presumed that this study may contribute towards a deeper understanding of emotional intelligence as a moderator of work stress and of the stress encountered in mastering new educational technologies with subsequent coping strategies. With its contribution to this emergent body of knowledge, the significance of the study lay in the clarification of the role of emotional intelligence in mastering new educational technologies. The case study is based on the 2004 participants in the Partners@Work programme at the Department of Telematic Education at the Tshwane University of Technology. The unit of analysis provided rich and detailed data for this study. A mixed methods approach, that is, the use of both qualitative and quantitative data, assisted in crystallising the data in order to provide insight into the way participants coped with the mastering of new educational technologies. Findings from this study suggest that a number of factors influence coping strategies when attempting to master new technologies, including self-efficacy beliefs, social networking structures as a resource, the use of positive emotions, the role of the facilitator and the emotional intelligence abilities associated with coping competencies. While a number of linkages between emotional intelligence and coping strategies could be identified, the interdependency of coping strategies and emotional intelligence remains elusive. The study recommends that institutions should create a supportive organisational climate for e-learning as a support for face-to face training programmes in skills development. The provision of programme facilitators trained in coaching participants, focusing on the accomplishment of self-directed learning, assisting participants in the attainment of goals, modelling positive emotive skills, and encouraging the practice of new skills may help to realise the promise of blended learning. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2008. / Curriculum Studies / unrestricted

Raisons des plaisirs et des joies en Grèce archaïque : pour une histoire des émotions positives et de leurs représentations / Reasons of pleasures and joys in archaic Greece : for a history of positive emotions and their representations

Bertau-Courbières, Clément 21 November 2014 (has links)
The present research regards the history of positive emotions and their representations in archaic Greece. The history of emotions, benefiting from a new trend, which underlined the relations between emotions and cognition, is based on the hypothesis that the sense of the affective episodes depends on the historical and cultural contexts. Consequently, the aim was to unveil the positive emotions’ meaning, from Homer to Herodotus, using the available evidence. The type of analysis that was used is at the same time semantic and historical, but it rests, as well, upon anthropology and psychology. Three main fields have been looked through for this study: the Homeric epic, the archaic poetry from the time of the first poleis and the new forms of wisdom, religious or philosophical. How these positive emotions have been defined? Were their form and functions subject to change? Which role is given to them in the polis or at the banquet? Which type of discourse have they provoked, at the ethical, political or philosophical levels? Beginning with a semantic dichotomy, that seems important in the lexical field, the new representations of the positive emotions are considered in close relationship with the social, political and religious changes of the archaic period.

Välbefinnande och positiva känslor i arbetslivet : En balansakt som kräver samspel / : Well-being and positive emotions in the working life - a balancing act that requires interaction

Brunk, Nanna, Norling, Sara January 2015 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine what gives employees wellbeing and positive emotions at work. The study was conducted through interviews with six employees, at four banking- and insurance offices in the middle of Sweden. The results were analyzed with the help of previous research and theories. The result shows that what creates positive emotions and well-being to a large degree are relationships, both with colleagues and customers. Positive emotions can have a very high ability to spread among colleagues, customers and the organization. It also showed that it is important that there is a balance between work life and private life and the demands and control at work. Being able to study wellbeing at work from an interaction perspective, which integrates both the individual and the organization also proved to be important to work with these issues.

Černiauskaitė, Rūta 03 June 2013 (has links)
Tyrimo tikslas – nustatyti sergančių išemine širdies liga asmenų emocijų ir arterinio kraujo spaudimo kitimus taikant ekspresyvaus rašymo metodą psichosocialinės reabilitacijos metu. Tyrime dalyvavo 164 kardiologiniame skyriuje besigydantys pacientai.
