Blasco Latorre, Daniel 20 April 2024 (has links)
Relationship between the attitude of first year medical students towards chemistry and their learning outcomes

Mogane, Maria Gadifele 03 1900 (has links)
Several factors that are known to influence attitudes of students towards learning have been documented. Some of these factors have been found to affect the achievement of students. In this study the relationship of the attitudinal disposition of students to their learning outcomes were assessed. Chemistry attitude questionnaire was used to assess the attitude of students and a pen and paper examination comprising of questions requiring declarative and procedural knowledge were used to assess learning outcomes of students. Correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis were used to assess relationship between attitude of students and their learning outcomes. The results showed that attitude of students had a positive but moderate influence on their performance. The ANOVA results showed a statistical significant relationship between attitude of students and students’ learning outcomes (F= 38.383, p=0.000). / Institute of Science and Technology Education / M.Sc. Employee fairness perceptions of a performance management system

Matlala, Manoko Magdeline 28 September 2011 (has links)
This study deals with the employee fairness perceptions of their performance management system in a South African organisation. The concept of justice, with particular reference to procedural, distributive and interactional justice, is used as a guide in assessing employee perceptions of fairness of the organisations’ performance management system. A qualitative approach was used to gain an in-depth understanding of employee perceptions of fairness based on their personal experiences of the organisation’s performance management system. Data was obtained through extensive semi structured interviews with 20 employees who had been with the organisation and participated in the performance management system for 5 or more years. All interviews were transcribed and assessed using a thematic analysis. The overall findings show that there are negative fairness perceptions of the performance management system as assessed according to the three organisational justice factors of procedural, distributive and interactional justice. / Industrial and Organisational Psychology) / M.A. (Industrial and Organisational Psychology)

Photo Policière: L'image que l'on donne les policières dans les polars policiers écrit par Chrystine Brouillet, Vicki Delany et Louise Penny / Photo Policière: Representations of Female Police Officers in Police Procedurals written by Chrystine Brouillet, Vicki Delany and Louise Penny

Taylor, Tammy January 2013 (has links)
Masculinity is still regarded as the embodiment of strength and heroism and the female body, weakness and victimization. Philippa Gates, Detecting Women, 282 Despite changes in the treatment of women over the decades, policewomen continue to suffer gender injustices at the hands of their male superiors, as well as from the community they are sworn to protect. The injustices they face are publicized by such media as the CBC, though often in an exaggerated fashion. As fiction often reflects reality, one can expect that the genre of the police procedural will demonstrate not only such gender injustices but also various ways victims respond to them. Like real policewomen, fictional female detectives are too often victims even when they are the protagonists, and even when their author is a woman. Evidence of the victimization of real and fictional policewomen will be explored in this thesis by looking at the history of detective fiction, and through real case studies involving real female police officers, as well as the analysis of certain key characters in focus texts by Chrystine Brouillet, Vicki Delany, and Louise Penny. As a result, it will be shown that the images projected by actual and fictional female police officers, while not always positive ones, are becoming more varied as a result of the feminist movement and as a result of literal and imaginary resistance to sexist stereotypes. Despite having moved into a protagonist position, fictional female detectives all too often have reduced agency and different gendered expectations than their male counterparts. Aspects of gender inequity present in Western societies today creep into fiction and are played out in ways not always possible in reality. Sometimes, sexist problems present in the fictional texts are resolved despite the fact that they still exist in certain policewomen's everyday lives. Stereotypes of what a police officer should be function in ways that reflect and reproduce gender injustices and often exist simultaneously with images of women that resist and oppose these same stereotypes. The representation of policewoman is thus multiple, reproducing stereotypes, blurring them, or erasing them altogether.

Opvoeders se persepsie oor billikheid in die werkplek / Phillip Cornelius Arries

Arries, Phillip Cornelius January 2013 (has links)
In education a new dimension started after the 1994 elections by implementing new legislation to ensure fair conduct towards all. New labour legislation was promulgated to contribute to fairness in South Africa. This legislation was also implemented in the South African education system to ensure that educators are treated fairly. The Employment of Educators Act (EEA), the Labour Relations Act (LBA), the Equity Act and the South African Schools Act (SASA) were promulgated to protect both the rights of the employer and the educator in education. The purpose of this research was to determine the perception of educators in the Oudtshoorn district regarding fairness in the workplace; how educators understand and experience their right to equality in the workplace; what their perception is regarding disciplinary action in the workplace, and to what extent educators have the basic concept and principle of labour law to prevent frustration in the workplace and ineffective service delivery, and to prevent the pursuit of incorrect procedures. It is crucial that the educator knows his or her rights as an employee, and what his or her obligations towards the employer are. This research was done on the basis of the literature study and the analysis of legislation that is applicable to educators. A qualitative enquiry into educators’ perceptions of fairness in the workplace was conducted amongst participants from the Oudtshoorn district, which included schools from different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. This case study was based on interviews with school managers, educators on post level 1 and with union representatives in the Oudtshoorn district. Questionnaires were structured to obtain the participants’ view and perception on fairness in the workplace and to determine their knowledge regarding the law and their rights in education with regards to labour law. The participants didn’t receive guidance because it could have influenced their answers. The data derived from the participants made it possible to compile certain recommendations and conclusions. From the empirical research it was evident that educators in the Oudtshoorn district had but a vague knowledge of their rights as educators and of legislation. Shortcomings that were apparent from this study were addressed, recommendations were made, and possible future research on related topics was indicated. / MEd (Education Law), North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2014

Vers la modélisation grand échelle d'environnements urbains à partir d'images / Towards large-scale urban environments modeling from images

Moslah, Oussama 05 July 2011 (has links)
The main goal of this thesis is to develop innovative and practicaltools for the reconstruction of buildings from images. The typical input to our workis a set of facade images, building footprints, and coarse 3d models reconstructedfrom aerial images. The main steps include the calibration of the photographs, the registration with the coarse 3d model, the recovery of depth and sematicinformation, and the refinement of the coarse 3d model. To achieve this goal, we use computer vision, pattern recognition and computergraphics techniques. Contributions in this approach are presented on two parts. In the first part, we focused on multiple view reconstruction techniques withthe aim to automatically recover the depth information of facades from a setof uncalibrated photographs. First, we use structure from motion techniques toautomatically calibrate the set of photographs. Then, we propose techniques for theregistration of the sparse reconstruction to a coarse 3d model. Finally, we proposean accelerated multi-view stereo and voxel coloring framework using graphicshardware to produce a textured 3d mesh of a scene from a set of calibrated images. The second part is dedicated to single view reconstruction and its aim is to recoverthe semantic structure of a facade from an ortho-rectified image. The novelty ofthis approach is the use of a stochastic grammar describing an architectural style asa model for facade reconstruction. we combine bottom-up detection with top-downproposals to optimize the facade structure using the Metropolis-Hastings algorithm.

Problematika institutu vazby / The issue of the concept of criminal custody

Šmahelová, Michala January 2015 (has links)
- The issue of the concept of criminal custody The thesis provides a comprehensive overview of selected issues relating to criminal custody, one of the means of securing an accused person for the purposes of criminal proceedings and sentence execution, provided for in the Act on Criminal Procedure. After a concise introduction, the thesis examines the historical development of custody as regulated in the Act No. 141/1961 Coll., on Criminal Procedure. Limits of restricting personal liberty are then discussed from the viewpoint of the Czech Constitution and international commitments of the Czech Republic. The principle part of the thesis deals with material and formal custody law. It defines the term 'custody' and elaborates on the conditions of the imposition of custody, especially with regard to the particular grounds of custody. The section dealing with formal custody law is focused on the provisions regarding the decision process on custody, custody hearing, the examination of the existence of grounds of custody, the maximum duration of custody and the setting off a custody period against a term of imprisonment when the accused is found guilty. Due regard is also given to alternatives to custody, since the accused can only be deprived of personal liberty when the purpose of custody cannot be...

L’application par la Cour de justice de l'Union européenne de la Convention européenne des droits de l'Homme en droit européen de la concurrence / Application by the court of justice of the European Union of the European Convention on Human Rights in european competition law

Golec, Marcin 11 December 2012 (has links)
This thesis tries to highlight the difficulties that may occur as a result of the correlations between competition law and the European Convention on Human Rights. All the actors of competition law agree to say that the competitive behavior of companies in the market must be framed. The preservation of a healthy and effective competition depends on many factors. Among them, the focus can be given on the powers of competition authorities and the effectiveness of the procedures aiming at a better competitive behavior. Furthermore, it can be added the role of the penalties imposed on companies breaching the rules of antitrust law. However, the practice shows that this goal is often pursued to the detriment of the rights of defense resulting from the European Convention on Human Rights.Nevertheless, the fundamental rights are profoundly anchored in our legal system and besides, improve the respect of the rule of law. Unlike other law areas, the youth of competition law might explain the reason why the authorities of competition have a more flexible approach of the European Convention on Human Rights. Entitled by the preservation of an effective competition, the authorities have pushed aside the European Convention on Human Rights.Coping with the constant critics of practitioners and academics, the authorities and the jurisdictions have gradually begun to pay attention to the violations of the defense rights. Moreover, measures have been set up to enforce a greater respect for the European Convention on Human Rights in the sphere of competition law. There is no doubt that all these measures cannot be enough to assure respect for the rights of defense of companies questioned by the authorities of competition. Nevertheless, it can be considered as a first step.

Sytnéza povrchových dat pro digitální modely terénu / Synthesis of digital landscape surface data

Šebesta, Michal January 2016 (has links)
A procedural generation of landscapes often meets a need for real spatial data at finer resolution that data available at the moment. We introduce a method that refines the spatial data at the coarse resolution into the finer resolution utilizing other data sources which are already at the better resolution. We construct weighted local linear statistical models from both the coarse and utility data and use the by- models-learned dependencies between the data sources to predict the needed data at better resolution. To achieve higher computational speed and evade utility data imperfection, we utilize truncated singular value decomposition which reduce a dimensionality of the data space we work with. The~method is highly modifiable and its application shows plausible real-like results. Thanks to this, the method can be of practical use for simulation software development.
