Women in the legal profession in South Africa: traversing the tensions from the bar to the bench

Chitapi, Rudo Runako January 2015 (has links)
This paper takes the view that the substance of that knowledge and information is to be found with the very women we are concerned with. It seeks to investigate this by eliciting the experiences of women who have entered the profession, specifically the advocate’s profession, more commonly known as the Bar. Closer scrutiny of women in the profession in this way will determine whether and to what extent patriarchal normative attitudes still operative in the legal profession.

Eriksson, Nathalie, Isbäck, Signe January 2023 (has links)

Fröling, Emma January 2011 (has links)
This essay discusses the decision of licensing for nursery and school teachers. In Swedish society there has for a long time been discourse about professionalisation within various industries, including teaching. One strategy towards achieving professional status is official authorisation of a profession, which occurs when a profession obtains licensing. In February 2011, the Swedish government announced the decision that nursery and school teachers would be licensed. This means that only those with an education can be employed as a teacher and obtain that license. The Swedish school has a long tradition of both educated and uneducated personnel who can work as a teacher, so the introduction of licensing for teachers is a radical change and will affect all personnel within the school system. In this essay I aim to present previous research relevant to the study such as status, profession, background history regarding the preschool and its development. My interest lies in how licensing is perceived by preschool directors and what their perception is of nursery teaching as a profession. In my study, I chose to interview four nursery directors using a qualitative interview method, with a phenomenological and hermeneutic perspective. From the study emerge rich descriptions of the phenomenon, perceptions about both the licensing and profession of nursery teacher

Dilienė, Kristina 24 September 2008 (has links)

Tačiau mokykla vis dar nepakankamai orientuoja mokinius profesijoms. Darbe aptariami psichologiniai pedagoginiai profesinio orientavimo pagrindai, profesinio orientavimo vaidmuo ugdymo karjerai procese. Taip pat nagrinėjamas profesijos bei karjeros pasirinkimo galimybių ugdymas bendrojo lavinimo mokyklose, analizuojamos aukštesniųjų klasių moksleivių profesinio orientavimo karjerai prielaidos bei galimybės gimnazijose. Pastebima tendencija, jog profesinio orientavimo sistema gimnazijose gerėja: moksleiviai informuojami apie profesijas, organizuojami profesinio orientavimo renginai, vykdomos individualios konsultacijos. Siekiant nustatyti profesinio orientavimo būklę bendrojo lavinimo mokyklose, darbe nagrinėjamas Anykščių rajono gimnazijose besimokančių aukštesniųjų klasių moksleivių bei jų tėvų požiūris į gimnazijose vykdomą profesinį orientavimą. / Vocational guidance in the conditions of modern world becomes more important than ever before. Professionalism in nursing : a concept analysis / Sundira Devi Mottian

Mottian, Sundira Devi January 2014 (has links)
Nurses are the backbone of the health care system in South Africa and spend more time with patients than any other member of the health care team. They are required to behave in a professional manner at all times. Unfortunately, professionalism within the nursing profession appears to be deteriorating. Nursing students entering the profession are at risk of assimilating unprofessional behaviour from their colleagues and inevitably, unprofessional behaviour negatively affects service delivery and the quality of patient care. Nurse educators play a key role in facilitating professional socialisation in students to enable them to mould into the nursing profession as they integrate the fundamental norms, values and standards governing the nursing profession. Unfortunately the concept of professionalism is poorly defined and might interfere with this education and assessment of professional socialisation of nursing students. The aim of this study was to define professionalism within the nursing profession using a qualitative, explorative, descriptive and contextual research design to obtain an in-depth understanding of the concept of professionalism. The concept of professionalism was analysed in-depth using the concept analysis method of Walker and Avant (2011), based on Wilson‟s work (1963). A clearer meaning of professionalism was obtained when the ordinary and professional meaning of the concept was examined by using a systematic way to search the literature. Qualitative content analysis resulted in the key attributes of the concept of professionalism being identified and extracted. Thematic analysis contributed to a further reduction of the data into categories of similar attributes, followed by quantitative content analysis where the data was classified in terms of frequency to identify meanings that are most often associated with the concept. Thereafter a connotative definition was formulated. The clarification of the meaning of professionalism was obtained by using model, contrary and borderline cases. The findings reveal many definitions on professionalism with overlapping defining characteristics, however when recognised attributes of professionalism were grouped together an exact definition of professionalism was not easy to obtain. The concept of professionalism was defined in the context of the nursing profession and the aim of the study was effectively achieved. The findings of this study provide the opportunity for further research, education and recommendations for nursing practice. / MCur, North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2014
