Qualidade de vida no trabalho dos docentes da Universidade Federal do Cearà / Quality of work life of professors at the Federal University of CearÃ

MÃrcia Maria da Costa Martins 04 April 2011 (has links)
The Quality of Life at Work (QLW) is more and more a reason for concern and occupation of researchers who are interested in understanding what, in fact, is the absence or poor quality of life in the routine of working people, no matter whether they are linked to other public bodies or private initiative. Using a model for identifying levels of Quality of Working Life already validated â The Walton Model - This study aimed to provide, along with the professors of the Federal University of Cearà (UFC), the level of QLW they have. Similarly, we sought to understand the reasons that lead to not getting inserted into the programs and psychosocial as well as cultural projects promoted by the Department of Human Development (DHD) of the Superintendence of Human Resources of the UFC. For so, we carried out a descriptive research through an online questionnaire with simple causal probability sample consisting of 120 professors of that institution, in the various areas of knowledge, located in the campuses of Fortaleza and the state of CearÃ. The data revealed that, overall; teachers have good Quality of Working Life at the UFC. The QLW is conceptualized as good relationship, respect, satisfaction, autonomy, welfare, security, infrastructure and tranquility. They did not show directly the interest to obtain QLW, but they pointed out that the pay is not enough for them to meet personal needs. Concerning his lack of insertion in programs and projects that the psychosocial and cultural UFC offers, they present some arguments, such as lack of knowledge and absence of specific programs and projects for teachers.

Life and its association with occupational stress, physical and mental health and sense of coherence among nursing professionals in surgical settings.

Schmidt, Denise Rodrigues Costa 08 May 2009 (has links)
The following hypotheses were tested in this study: H1- after controlling for sociodemographic and professional variables, adding occupational stress, anxiety and depression will meaningfully contribute to reduce the measures of Quality of Working Life (QWL); and H2 after controlling for socio-demographic and professional variables, anxiety and depression, adding sense of coherence (SOC) will contribute to increase the QWL measure. This observational, descriptive, correlational and cross sectional study aimed to evaluate QWL, the profile of physical and mental health, the presence of occupational stress and SOC among nursing professionals working in surgical settings (BC). In total, 211 nursing professionals participated in this study. Six instruments were used for data collection: socio-demographic and professional characterization, Visual Analogue Scale for QWL, Job Stress Scale, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Standardized Nordic Questionnaire and Antonovskys Sense of Coherence (SOC) Scale. In general, the scales obtained acceptable values for Cronbachs Alpha, which varied from 0.54 to 0.75 on the Job Stress Scale. HADS-Anxiety obtained 0.79 and HADS-Depression 0.77 for Cronbachs Alpha, while the SOC reached an internal consistency score of 0.87. Among the participants, most were nursing auxiliaries (62,6%), female (86,7%) and married (54,0%), with average age of 40 years. The average time of work at the BC was 9.3 (S.D.=8.0) years. Regarding assessment of QWL, the average score obtained for the total sample was 58.9 (S.D.=27.7), in a possible range from zero to 100, showing that workers were fairly satisfied with their quality of life at work. The dimensions (Demand, Control and Social Support) of occupational stress obtained mean scores, i.e. 14.8 (S.D.=2.4), 16.5 (S.D.=2.3) and 18.7 (D.P.=2.8), respectively. Among the participants, 115 (54.5%) were in the group of intermediate exposition to occupational stress. Regarding evaluation of anxiety and depression, the average anxiety score was 6.3 (S.D.=3.7) and average depression 5.2 (S.D.=3.3), in a possible range from zero to 21. It was also shown that, among nursing professionals, 66 (31.3%) presented symptoms of anxiety and 51 (24.2%) symptoms of depression. The highest annual prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders was found in the lower back region (n=82; 38.9%) and in the region of the shoulders (n=80; 37.9%). The SOC score for the 203 nursing professionals who answered this instrument was144.6 (S.D.=22.6), in a possible range from 29 to 203. The QWL measure showed a statistically significant association with the variables kind of institution (p=0.003), monthly income (p=0.006), choice of place of work (p=0.01), presence of occupational stress (p=0.001), presence of anxiety (p=0.008), depression (p=0.05) and musculoskeletal disorders in the region of the shoulders (p=0.00), lumbar region (p=0.00) in the last 12 months and in the lumbar region in the last seven days (p=0,01). The SOC score presented a statistically significant association with kind of institution (p=0.03), having a second job (p=0.00), monthly income (p=0.01), presence of occupational stress (p=0.029), presence of anxiety (p=0.000) and depression (p=0.000). The study reasserted that adding occupational stress and mood disorders contributed to a decrease in QWL among nursing professionals in BC, although it was not confirmed that the addition of SOC could contribute to increase these workers QWL.

The Quality of Working Life in the English teacher’s activities: the application of the competency model for the Quality of Working Life and the Biopsychosocial Approach.

Kanikadan, Andréa Yumi Sugishita 17 October 2005 (has links)
The study investigated the perceptions of Quality of Working Life in the English teacher’s activities, based on the competency model for the Quality of Working Life and the Biopsychosocial Approach. It was conducted an exploratory and descriptive study, so that new ideas could be discovered through this investigation. The method chosen was the survey research, getting data about characteristics, actions and opinions within a group of people, using a questionnaire. Ninety-one English teachers attended this survey, representing a nonprobabilistic sample. The results showed that these teachers perceive positively the quality of working life, having problems in health and career matters. It was concluded that, although the English teachers demonstrate a positive perception in the quality of working life items, the results reflect the need organizations have in establishing strategies. When it doesn’t happen, it is harmful to People Management, bringing consequences in the long term. The lack of a career plan has affected part of the teaching process, causing physical diseases to the professional mentioned.

The Role of Work-Life Balance Programs in Job Satisfaction

Cookson, Charles 01 January 2016 (has links)
Organizations spend significant amounts of money to address low job satisfaction. As much as 16.5% of an organization's pretax income is lost due to employee withdrawal behaviors, with 27% of that amount associated with turnover. Building on the quality of working life theory, this single-site case study took place at a for-profit university located in the Midwest United States to understand the role that work-life balance programs play in employee job satisfaction. The population consisted of 6 front-line admissions managers, as that population was appropriate for understanding the work-life balance strategies college officials use to improve the job satisfaction of admissions representatives. The data collection process consisted of semistructured interviews, a review of observational field notes, and a review of employee surveys. Based on methodological triangulation of the data sources and analysis of the data, 3 emergent themes were identified. Participants indicated that both autonomy and flexibility contributed to employee job satisfaction, which the quality of working life theory and existing research on the subject supports. Participants also indicated that the manager-employee relationship was fundamental to improving job satisfaction, which was a finding outside of the scope of the conceptual framework used in the study. Social change implications include improving policy makers and business leaders' understanding of the role that work-life balance plays in job satisfaction. Employees will also find the results of this study informative when attempting to understand how work-life balance programs may contribute to the level of satisfaction they experience with their jobs.

Research on the Impact of Quality of Working Life on the Organizational Commitment: A Case Study of Household Registration Officers of Taipei City

Unknown Date (has links)
Examining the environment of today’s household registration office, we concluded that the turnover of household registration officers has effects on quality and efficiency of the civil service indirectly. If we can understand household registration officers’ perception of the quality of working life, we will be able to comprehend its connection to organizational commitment and take relevant management actions so as to strengthen the human resources efficiency of household registration office. For creating high quality service attitude to customers and following the customer-oriented trend, the purpose of this study is to establish a dynamic and competitive household registration office. The subjects of the study were employees in every household registration offices of Taipei City Government. Besides using literature review to construct research framework and hypotheses, this study adopted survey techniques as a research tool with questionnaire that contained scales of quality of working life and organizational commitment, and basic information of household registration officers. With the method of general census, 679 copies of questionnaire were mailed; after retrieving 542 copies, we had a return rate of 80% with effective questionnaires of 480 copies. Descriptive statistics analysis, t- test, one-way ANOVA, two-way ANOVA, Pearson’s product-moment correlation and multiple stepwise regression analysis were used for analyzing the data, verifying the results and consequently addressing the conclusions and suggestions. This study found that employees perceived the most satisfaction in the aspects of “interpersonal relationship and participation” and “job description and sense of honor” in quality of working life; and exhibited the highest level in the aspect of “hard-working promises” in organizational commitment. As to personal attributes: for the satisfaction of quality of working life and the level of organizational commitment, males were higher than females; married were higher than unmarried; the ones with recommended appointment position were higher than with ordinary appointment position; administrative staffs were higher than duty executives and staffs at counters; managers were higher than non-management personnel. There are significant correlation among organizational commitment, quality of working life and five aspects of “interpersonal relationship and participation”, “fairness”, “job description and sense of honor”, “work environment”, “wage and benefits”. As to the projection of organizational commitment in general, “job description and sense of honor” ranks the first, followed with “work environment”, “interpersonal relationship and participation” and “wage and benefits”. Quality of working life for household registration officers indeed has effects on their organizational commitment; and moreover, there is positive correlation between quality of working life and organizational commitment, that is, the more they are satisfied with quality of working life, the more they make commitment to the organization. Thus, we recommend that the household registration office shall adopt appropriate management actions by promoting the perception of quality of working life to convince the household registration officers that their decision to work here is a wise one; to encourage them it is worthy of devoting time and energy on the job; to assure them it is a privilege as part of the household registration officers and finally keep and retain them in the household registration office.
