Standar, Matilda January 2019 (has links)
At present, a large part of the products from the north is transported on the main line through upper Norrland, which handles all railway transports through Norrland. The track does not meet today´s requirements for freight transport because of its curvy and hilly traction, its only track and the fact that it is located far from the coast where most industries are situated. In 2002, the investigation of a new coastal railway began, which can relieve the main line from freight traffic, but also promote passenger transport by dimidiated travel times and increased communication between the cities. The new railway was named Norrbotniabanan and is planned to pass through the larger cities along the coast. Piteå is the city that has the most possible route options and potential locations for the railway station. After a number of investigations, only two alternative tractions through Piteå remains, alternatives P1 and P2. In alternative P1, or the Coastal route, Norrbotniabanan is supposed to run parallel with E4. A travel center is planned to be located south of Lomtjärn and west of E4. In the other alternative P2, or the Central route, the track would pass through the center of Piteå where the travel center would be located also. The purpose of this work has been to investigate the potential of Lomtjärn Travel Center in the alternative coastal route of the Norrbotniabanan railway. The aim was to be able to specify which features that should be implemented to achieve the best design for the Lomtjärn Travel Center in its peripheral position, with regard to social and ecological sustainability, to promote passenger transport. In order to achieve the aim information was obtained by a literature study linked to the railway station's basic properties and importance to the city. Furthermore, a study was conducted of existing peripheral stations to gather inspiration and see how others had solved various functions connected to the station. A site analysis was also conducted where the travel centers location previously determined by the municipality was analyzed to find out if it really was the best location in the area. The above studies and analyzes resulted in a concept proposal for the design of the Lomtjärn Travel Center. Early on, accessibility proved to be one of the most important success of the location of a railway station. The passage over the railway tracks and E4 is seen as the most important accessibility action because it breaks the barrier created by E4 and creates access to the station from two directions. Other measures that contribute to increased accessibility are the division of the car and cycle parking lots to each side of E4 and the connection between the station and the grocery store at Backen. Another action that is connected to both accessibility and ecological sustainability is the transport between the station and the center, as it strengthens the connection between them at the same time as it is fossil-free. Good personal security is also seen as important. The decision to choose a raised glazed walkway as a passage instead of a tunnel under the ground is considered to be a positive action for the proposal. Another security action was to add a kiosk, this creates security by adding someone who can oversee the station. Other measures that increase security are the choice to keep the passage open and not add anything that obscures the visibility and the fact that the entire passage is a waiting room, because it allows excellent view of the tracks. A solution that does not have much to do with either social or ecological sustainability, but which is nevertheless believed to be significant for Piteå city is the height of the passage. The height enables it to appear from a longer distance and form a landmark in the northwest while forming an entrance to Piteå.

Nádraží - průnik tématu městské krajiny utvářené průmyslovou revolucí do české malby 30. a 40. let 20. století / The Railway Station - Czech Post-war Painting Focused on Urban Landscape

PALUŠOVÁ, Mária January 2019 (has links)
This diploma thesis called The Railway Station - The Introduction of the Theme of Urban Landscape Shaped by the Industrial Revolution in Czech Painting of 1930s and 1940s is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part deals with the czech painting of the thirties and fourties mainly. The painting of this period reacts on the development of the cities after the industrial revolution and the change of the stands. The new situation was reflected by the artists originally. The theoretical part is focused on Group 42 and its members mainly. The artists and their pieces of work show the issues of the progress. Both parts, practical part mainly, put the emphasis on the phenomenon of the railway station. The railway station is connected with the development of the cities and it serves for the transport of people and goods. There is the outlining of the problem of artistically captured everyday reality of man living in the city in this thesis, there is the differentation of abstract and concrete imaging and its interconnection. The practical part contains photos, sketches and final painting. The railway station is depicted in the painting. The problem of reality and abstract and concrete imaging are expressed in the painting.

When mid-sized city meets railway station : between metropolitan imitation and territorial reorganization

Roudier, Emilie 18 February 2019 (has links)
Since the end of the 1990s, a number of urban planning initiatives have been launched in and around French train stations, fueled by the evolution of transportation modes and services, public policies and changing strategies from railway operators. These initiatives have ambitioned to transform railway stations, altering the historical definition of the word, and extending this transformation to their immediate surroundings and neighborhoods. The notion of “station cluster”, presented in this paper, defines these three areas and the interlinkages that exist between them. While past theses have mainly studied projects focused on Paris’ main railway stations and major urban areas, this thesis shines the spotlight on station clusters redevelopments in medium-sized cities. More than sixty different such projects have been studied for this paper, each anchored in unique local contexts, marked by more limiting socioeconomic dynamics and by the modest financial and technical resources found in these local communities. This thesis therefore intends to analyze the gap between local issues, actors, zoning requirements and project management in major urban cores and their adjustment for medium-sized cities to try and reveal forms of adaptation and regionalization of public policies in regards to the planning of railway station projects. A comparison was made between the station clusters of three medium sized French cities (Saintes, Périgueux and Saint-Omer) based on a qualitative survey partly grounded in the involvement with a transportation consulting office working with local urban planning authorities and the conducting of semi-directive interviews with project actors. The results have shown that mid-sized city projects, while pursuing similar goals, and partially relying on the same players, are not the simple, yet shrinked, reproduction of major metropolitan projects. This thesis therefore contributes in putting the spotlight on medium-sized cities as well as providing an original reading grid of local public policies and actions.

La grande gare contemporaine et le labyrinthe du transport multimodal : vers une nouvelle approche de la lisibilité, l'exemple de la gare de la Part-Dieu à Lyon / The large contemporary train station and the labyrinth of multimodal transport : a new approach to the legibility. The example of the station Part-Dieu of Lyon

Boumoud, Abdelhakim 12 December 2012 (has links)
Since its appearance in the middle of the XIXe century, the railway station has continued to transform and become more complex. This long process drove to a spatial, temporal and functional "labyrinthification" of these big metropolitan facilities. This phenomenon poses a problem of legibility of the spaces and results notably in the complexity of the paths and disorientation of users. Since some years, these questions become major preoccupations for designers and managers, who are not always able to respond efficiently. Research proposes a theoretical and methodological approach around the concept of" wayfinding, to the questions of "legibility" and "accessibility" of the spaces in the big contemporary station. It seeks to identify the factors that influence the experiences of station passage and generate or accompany situations of disorientation and confusion, relying in particular on the analysis of subject's volunteer's verbal reports and filmed courses inside the station Part-Dieu in Lyon. The work has highlighted the complexity of factors to be taken into account in the analysis of the legibility of the space station and pedestrian paths: physical and sensitive characteristics of places, effectiveness of signage, individual characteristics, cognitive and perceptual skills, emotional profile, spatial abilities and personality. They allow us to imagine a new approach to the design of large of large contemporary stations.
