Jegenberg, Minna, Lundström, Kristina January 2019 (has links)
To increase the use of public transport and to increase the safety for the travelers, two aspects thatare included in the goals regarding the Swedish transport system, the design of railway stations isimportant. When planning stations, many stakeholders are involved and therefore there is a risk thatproblems may occur, especially in smaller municipalities where there might be a lack of resources. Moreover, it is the travelers’ needs that should be in focus when planning stations. This thesis was carried out with the objective to investigate measures to solve problems regardingthe travelers’ accessibility and safety at railway stations in Sweden. In addition, problems that mightoccur due to that many stakeholders are responsible for the station environment and whether thetravelers’ needs are reflected in the planning were investigated. To fulfill the objective, a case studywas performed at two small railway stations: Fagersta centralstation and Fagersta Norra. The casestudy included visual inspections of the stations, surveys among the travelers and interviews withresponsible stakeholders and with experts in these subjects. In the interviews with the stakeholders, many problems with the stations are mentioned but fewmeasures are suggested. In comparison between the answers from the stakeholders and the experts, the experts identified additional problems and suggested other measures and they should thereforebe consulted when planning station environments. In addition, additional problems were observedduring the visual inspections, mainly concerning conflicts between different traffic modes whichcould be both accessibility and safety problems. Based on this, visual inspections should beperformed when planning stations to observe problems that otherwise are forgotten. To increase the safety and the accessibility at the stations in Fagersta, measures to decrease thenumber of conflicts and their severity through e.g. hinders for vehicles and reorganization of thestation area are recommended. In the survey, the travelers pointed out the perceived safety and thewaiting area as important aspects at the stations. Since both of these aspects are insufficient, measures to improve these, through e.g. improved lighting and shelters, should be prioritized. The stakeholders’ perception of the travelers’ needs varied both between the stations and thestakeholders. Also, since the experts have a different focus, they do not observe the travelers’ needswhich makes it important to involve the travelers to find their actual needs. The stakeholders thattake initiative to consult the travelers however do not handle the station environments which meansthat no traveler dialogues are held about this at smaller stations. However, no clear connectionbetween whether the stakeholders keep regular dialogues with the travelers and if they have a clearview of the travelers’ needs were found. One benefit with consulting the travelers when planningstations could be that the responsible stakeholders receive guidance in prioritizing measures. Moreover, the shared responsibility for the station environments do not lead to that any part of thestation is forgotten in the assessment. Problems may however arise when objects are located inbetween different responsibility areas. Finally, the cooperation between stakeholders variesdepending on who are involved, and more problems might occur if private property owners areinvolved. A reorganization that suggests that one stakeholder has an overall responsibility over thestation could decrease these problems. The stakeholders that handles the traffic are positive towardsthis type of reorganization and the stakeholders that have a larger responsibility at the stations didnot give their view on this. The question regarding a reorganization needs further investigation.Key words: Accessibility, safety, railway station, stakeholder, traveler, cooperationEnglish title: An investigation regarding increased accessibility and safety for travelers at railwaystations in smaller municipalities – An evaluation with a case study in Fagersta that includes travelers’and responsible stakeholders’ view of the stations and the cooperation between stakeholders

Kompaktní město - aneb co nového se může ještě dít v Brně mezi nádražími / Compact City - or what new is able to yet be done in Brno among railway stations

Stuchlík, Aleš January 2010 (has links)
Project deals with the Brno main railway station and a large area behind this station, including the broader context of a railway junction in Brno and the suburban area. Station is located in the user-friendly and operationally advantageous location in the city center. „Zanádraží“, from the city center point of view, remains behind the station, but it isn`t the city inside periphery anymore. Proximity to city center, train and bus station and the river „Svratka“ give uniquely positioned for the generation of attractive neighborhoods. Author rejects functionalist arrangement of cities and vertical segregation of communications. The new city district is formed by use traditional urban repertoire: streets, squares and waterfronts defined by closed block development. The emphasis is on functional public transportation system, favorable conditions for pedestrian movement and the sustainability of private transport, which is providing a facility for ensuring the service areas, but not for undirected growth threatening urban environment.

Arquitetura ferroviária e industrial: os casos das cidades de São João del-Rei e Juiz de Fora (1875 - 1930) / Railroad and industrial architecture: the cases of São João del-Rei and Juiz de Fora (1875-1930)

Moreira, Danielle Couto 12 June 2007 (has links)
This dissertation analyzes the architecture of the industrial age undertaken in the cities of São João del-Rei and Juiz de Fora, during the period from 1875 to 1930. The objects of this research were rail stations, factories and labor villages built in these two cities that stood out in their contexts. They are: the rail buildings of the oeste de Minas railroad (1881) and some workers\' houses, in the city of São João del-Rei; the rail stations of D. Pedro II railroad: Mariano Procópio Station (1875) and Central Station (1877-1906), and some workers\' houses in the city of Juiz de Fora; the rail station of Leopoldina Railroad (1927) at Juiz de Fora; the Companhia Industrial São Joannense (1891) with its labor village at São João del-Rei; the Companhia Têxtil Bernardo Mascarenhas (1888) and its labor village (1925) at Juiz de Fora; the Companhia Industrial e Construtora Pantaleone Arcuri & Spinelli (1895) and its labor village (1910) at Juiz de Fora; the Companhia de Fiação e Tecelagem Industrial Mineira (1885) at Juiz de Fora; the Companhia Fiação e Tecelagem Santa Cruz (1914) at Juiz de Fora; the Fábrica de Tecidos São João Evangelista (1924) and its company town at Juiz de Fora. The rail station architecture and industrial architecture were studied in terms of architectonic language, considering the implantation of the industrial buildings, rail stations and labor villages, the spatial organization and their configuration aspects. They were also studied in terms of urban insert, considering impacts that these buildings provoked in these cities at the time of their installation, as well as the analysis of their role in the current context. The presence of some tendencies was verified among the studied typologies, in terms of architectonic language and space organization, and also the predominance of the eclecticism language as architectural reference in these enterprises. The results clearly demonstrated the need of a more profound look on the questions that involve practices and politics of industrial heritage preservation in the cities of São João del-Rei and Juiz de Fora, emphasizing the incipient aspect of the researches about this subject in Minas Gerais.

Stollar, Vanessa. January 2010 (has links)
(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: The story of the arrival and development of the railway to the Paraíba Valley is full peculiarities that make it exciting and important in the Brazilian scene. The railroad arrived in Brazil with the promise of introducing to the country progress and development, and the promise of this new temple, became the railway stations, which in the beginning were only refueling stop for the train, unload or buying stations for goods but with the evolution of passenger transport, became the gateway for cities, that are now calling for being recognized by these buildings and not turn the "dead cities". In this thesis it will be redeemed only railway stations from some eastern cities of São Paulo, three cases of the former North Railroad or Sao Paulo-Rio, born as of an initiative led by farmers in the region and then evolved to belong to Central Railroad of Brazil. The stations chosen are: of Cachoeira Paulista, Guaratinguetá and Jacareí. The justification of the research comes from the vision of the city as a social fact, which must be experienced as a cultural asset. This enjoyment can not be divorced from the lives of its inhabitants. The monuments have an aesthetic dimension and a historical dimension, this integrated vision of heritage the places nourish the dynamics of identities. This research aims to produce and retrieve a collection of images on the theme, comparing photographs and identifying what has changed in those years of "civilization." Expose the multiple views on preservation, and their applications in the three chosen stations. The theoretical basis of the research consists of references on the following topics: history of the Vale do Paraíba and cities studied, the history of the railroad in Brazil, and heritage and architecture. These stations are in many cases, deteriorated by time, crippled by a misuse, and not representing the history that they have being through...
