A method to assess knowledge acquisition in interactive three-dimensional virtual learning environments.Nunes, Eunice Pereira dos Santos 14 March 2014 (has links)
The popularization of computational tools applied to teaching and the advent of Web 2.0 have led to the advancement of Virtual Learning Environments (VLE) through resources rendered by Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies, leading to the emergence of Tridimensional VLEs (3D), which are widely employed in diverse fields of knowledge. In alliance with this advancement, the 3D VLE knowledge acquisition process has been the object of research studies which consider the conception of virtual environments. One of the discussions outlined in this context refers to the contribution that 3D VLEs effectively offer for knowledge acquisition and how it is possible to evaluate this learning process. Studies have demonstrated that methods widely employed for assessing cognition in 3D VLEs have made intense use of questionnaire application outside VLEs. It is possible to perceive that, in the evaluation process, the assessment tools applied in 3D VLEs do not incorporate the same interactive technologies available in the environment. Thus, the initial aim of this research is to identify the knowledge acquisition process in 3D VLEs, as well as existing methods for assessing if knowledge acquisition actually occurs and to which degree it occurs. From this study, the aim of the research is to define a method for assessing knowledge acquisition employing the same interactive technologies available in 3D VLEs, in an innovative manner, complementing widely used questionnaires as assessment tools. In addition to the suggestion of the conceptual method, an architecture was defined and a computational system capable of registering user interactions in 3D VLEs was implemented, in a non intrusive form of application. A mathematical model that offers learning assessment without the need of knowledge tests was also suggested. Experiments were conducted to evaluate each phase of the model. The results of the experiments show that it is feasible to evaluate knowledge acquisition within predetermined contexts and that there is evidence that some types of user interactions with VLEs are correlated with the user\'s learning level.

educação, Libras, intérpretes e professores surdos participaram do desenvolvimento do
A metodologia utilizada
Durante a aplicação e utilização do
inclusiva / ABSTRACT
The use of technology and educational softwares can engage the students in several activities
inside and outside the classroom. Moreover, the use of such tools plays an important role in
the development of the child's cognition. Many of these educational softwares are playful,
enhancing the teaching-learning process for teachers and students. The use of a software is not
always easy and intuitive for students. For students with some disability (physical, auditive,
visual, multi-intellectual), this process is even more difficult because the disability requires
specific capacities of interaction between the student and the world in distinct ways to
develop the habilities that form the base to their learning. In this research, we have developed
an Augmented Reality (AR) software to support the teaching-learning process of deaf
students, users of Libras and Portuguese. After the development of the software, it was used
by students and professionals from the field of deafness, allowing the evaluation of the use of
the software to enhance the teaching and learning of the students. With this software, we want
to provide autonomy to the users, such that they can develop their own themes, enhancing the
learning of Libras. Therefore, this work focuses on the learning of the deaf students through
the use AR technology in the field of bilingual learning Several professionals from the fields
of education, Libras, deaf teachers and interpreters participated in the software development,
together with the deaf students from two educational institutions. In this thesis, we have
adopted the action research as a methodology. First, we have applied a quantitative survey
with some professionals of an educational institution. Then, we have conducted a semistructured
interview with professionals of a school specialized in the bilingual education of
deaf students. Finally, we have observed the deaf student during his/her use of the educational
software, applying a simple questionnaire with seven students of the second institution. The
results obtained point out that the difficulty of some participants of the experiment was related
to several factors which will be highlighted in the chapters of this thesis. We have observed
that some participants dominated the signs shown by the software, while the others presented
difficulties to identify them. During all the data analysis, it was clear the importance of the
support of the specialized schools during the learning process of these children. Furthermore,
it was possible to detect the importance of the proposed software in this context. Its
importance is not solely related to the teaching of new words in Libras or Portuguese, but also
because it is free, available for everyone which may elaborate strategies or plan activities in
the field of special and inclusive education.

The technological revolution experienced by contemporary society and the advancement of media tools point to the need to integrate education in this context , aligning their actions with these materials. Therefore, it is necessary for teachers to appropriate technological knowledge and to use these tools in their educational practices. In this context, it is the teaching of Portuguese Language, whose main topics are the reading and textual production. In this perspective , this work presents a proposal of textual multimodal production with the use of Augmented Reality technology aiming to motivate the reading activities and text production as well to improve this educational process. To development this work was used the methodology of action research and qualitative analysis, using a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews as data collection instrument. It was considered that the use of technology to support the classroom textual production enabled new strategies for this activity, which motivated and encouraged the participation of students in school activities. This research indicated that the use of AR enhances the production of multimodal texts, because this technology allows the inclusion of images, 3D objects and audio in the texts produced by the students and was considered as an important tool of motivation to reading and writing. The results analyzed in this dissertation indicate that the students showed a expressive learning in the textual productions through AR technology. Finally, it is emphasized that the use of this technology in activities of multimodal texts production constitutes an important approach that can be used by teachers who want to insert the technology into their practices of textual production.

a estima??o da ilumina??o do ambiente.

Esse
descritor extende o descritor bin?rio e ? denominado descritor discreto. Ele supera o atual
Shadows and illumination play an important role when generating a realistic scene in
computer graphics. Most of the Augmented Reality (AR) systems track markers placed
in a real scene and retrieve their position and orientation to serve as a frame of reference
for added computer generated content, thereby producing an augmented scene. Realistic
depiction of augmented content with coherent visual cues is a desired goal in many
AR applications. However, rendering an augmented scene with realistic illumination is a
complex task. Many existent approaches rely on a non automated pre-processing phase to
retrieve illumination parameters from the scene. Other techniques rely on specific markers
that contain light probes to perform environment lighting estimation. This study aims at
designing a method to create AR applications with coherent illumination and shadows,
using a textured cuboid marker, that does not require a training phase to provide lighting
information. Such marker may be easily found in common environments: most of product
packaging satisfies such characteristics. Thus, we propose a way to estimate a directional
light configuration using multiple texture tracking to render AR scenes in a realistic
fashion. We also propose a novel feature descriptor that is used to perform multiple texture
tracking. Our descriptor is an extension of the binary descriptor, named discrete
descriptor, and outperforms current state-of-the-art methods in speed, while maintaining
their accuracy.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This work presents a system for mobile devices using the technology of
Augmented Reality (AR) and the Android operating system resources to aid in the
treatment of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD). AR can increase the amount of
information available to existing environments, where the information carried by virtual
objects help the user to perform real-world tasks. Thus, the system aims to contribute to
the pharmacological treatment of AD, allowing the patient to have precision in time to
take medication. For this, the system is based on information about drugs, about the
time in which drugs must be taken, that trigger alarms at the time that a drug should be
taken and information about the time remaining before the drug is taken. This
information is trigged from the mobile device when the patient places the phone on the
boxes of medicine through the camera of the device. These drugs are previously
registered in the system and are associated with AR s markers that are fixed in the drug
boxes. Then, when recognizing the marker, the system presents information about the
drug. Therefore, it is expected that the system contributes to the daily lives of patients
by stimulating the slowing of the disease through drug treatment and the correct
memory stimulus through reading and understanding the medicine statement.

Estes
sistema apresenta dados do medicamento.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / In this days with a great technological development of sciences in general, the
humanity possesses more resources to promote a long and healthful life. New techniques are
created to increase the life quality, however still many areas need research, one of these are
the recovery of amputated patients to prostheses.
The technology of prostheses construction is in constant research but the patients
adaptation to these prostheses is slow and tiring. In this way this dissertation has as objective
to investigate computational techniques that support simulations and training of prostheses
through the interaction with a graphical interface that will stimulates patients to the use of
prostheses For this the use of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) techniques,
valued for the power of immersion, interaction and navigation.
Initially, it has accomplished a review of the main characteristics of the classification
systems and simulation of upper limbs movements.
Basing in these studies, the limitations of the existing systems were determined in
terms of the virtual environments exhibition. A system was proposed to possible the users to
overcome the difficulties of there deficiency.
With that, the integration of the acquisition systems was obtained through a 3D
graphical interface with high interaction level. With the members movements classification
and the biomedical signal analysis, such as Electromyography, signal proceeding from the
muscular contractions very used in the biomechanics prostheses control.

Letramentos digitais e formação educacional na educação básica: investigação de práticas / Digital Literacies and Educacional development at a Primary/Secondary School: investigating practicesHelena Andrade Mendonça 24 October 2016 (has links)
This study presents the research developed in a primary and secondary educational institution and investigates practices which use and reflect upon digital technologies in the development of teachers and students. For this, the contributions of authors from diverse areas of knowledge were used, such as education, communication and linguistics, as well as authors who discuss approaches to new literacies and contemporary society. The introduction of this study presents the investigation justifications and questions, methodological choices and the investigated field. The data from the research were collected from the digital literacy practices which focused on the study of technology; actions which used virtual resources and environments as support for the pedagogical practices and activities which had as an objective the reflection on the present times and the ubiquity of technology. In chapter 1, I analyze some theoretic conceptions used in the data analysis and I report a sequence of history classes, where the object of study is globalization. Part of the aspects discussed are related to post-modernity, the circulation of information on the internet and the use of digital technologies in social movements. In the second chapter, the students explore digital resources to build a treasure-hunt game with augmented reality; based on the concept of appropriation of technologies from a critical perspective. Finally, in chapter 3, teacher development practices are described and analyzed during technical-pedagogical workshops, focusing on the appropriation and reflection on the use of digital resources; activities that use the tools to support pedagogical practices and promote reflection on ethical aspects and the use of virtual environments in primary education. Still in this chapter, I analyze the change in study procedures with the use of digital technologies from the investigated practices.
