As repercussões sociais do desenvolvimento local : um estudo a partir do Projeto Vida Sustentável no município de Santana do Mundaú/Alagoas. / The social repercussions of local development: a study from the Sustainable Living Project in the municipality of Santana do Mundaú / Alagoas.Santos, Ana Paula Silva dos 23 February 2006 (has links)
This work objectifies to understand in that measured experiences of
development place are capable to alter the conditions economic-social of located
communities in outlying areas of the Northeast. The study is centered in the actions
of the Project Maintainable Rural Life (PVRS), implemented in Alagoas in the year in
2002, being taken in consideration the context socioeconomics, the organization of
the production, the commercialization and the level of the family farmers' social
organization benefitted by the project. The locus of that investigation is the Santana
Mundaú city in Alagoas. Starting from the analysis on the thematic of local
development, we tried to identify the context in that that model emerges, sells the
limits among what it presupposes the theory and the social repercussions in the
practice. In this sense, we verified that there is an abyss between the expected social
capital and human capital and it correspond them capitals observed in the studied
communities. Another subject is that the institutional interests don't correspond to the
population beneficiary's needs. At the level of the speech the proposals of local
development, are distant of answering to the proposed objectives that is of
combatting the poverty and the social inequality and of income.

apicultura e a bovinocultura.
produtores. / The objective of this study was to evaluate the level of sustainability of rural producers in
four municipalities of Sertão da Paraíba, analyzing the contribution of the indicators
regarding quality of life, social capital and environmental preservation of producers. The data
were obtained through semi-structured interviews with 40 rural producers from each
municipality and, based on these dataof, indices of quality life, social and environmental
capital were calculated, in order, to calculate the sustainability index. The rural producers
demonstrated a time of performance in agricultural activities that varied from 10 to 70 years
of work in the field. In the municipalities of Sertão, in the state of Paraíba, Brazil, it was
verified that, according to the rural producers, the livestock activities that present the best
economic performance are goat breeding, beekeeping and cattle breeding. Within the
agricultural activities, stands out the fruticulture and the dryland culture. In relation to the
quality of life, index all municipalities were characterized as medium. For the social capital,
index only Triunfo was defined as low level, the others were classified as average. The
municipality of Santa Helena presented an environmental index for the rural producers of
medium level of preservation, and as characterizations of the other municipalities were low
level. The level of sustainability of rural producers, in the municipalities of São João do Rio
do Peixe, Santa Helena and Poço de José de Moura was defined as medium. The municipality
of Triunfo was classified as low level of sustainability of the rural producers, which had a
negative contribution of the low environmental preservation and small social participation of
the producers.

This thesis focuses on the return to origins in contemporary French narratives. It examines the works of authors who left their hometown or their village and experienced social mobility. It specifically investigates the works of authors who come from post-industrial and non-touristy areas in France: Nicolas Mathieu, Annie Ernaux, Didier Eribon, Édouard Louis and Raymond Depardon. First, this work analyzes what the notion of return in literature implies, especially when French rural life is represented. The study aims to define a poetics of return for each of these texts, focusing on how these books are multi-genre or genre-bending: photobiography and documentary with Depardon, fiction with Ernaux and Mathieu, autobiography with Louis, essay with Eribon. In a second part, we examine the temporality and the geography of return, in particular nostalgia and displacement. This thesis also explores the author, narrator or character’s point of view on their background, as someone who left and changed their social status: the final chapter analyzes how this point of view has shifted, how it is renewed, but also how it can present itself as distant and apart. A creative text follows this research: titled I am sending you pictures of the primroses in the sand, it brings fiction and documentary (which includes photographs) together and reflects on the return gesture within rural areas.

Pertaining to the monographic tradition in sociology and anthropology, this dissertation is about the diversity of the practices and ideologies of the different kinds of rural populations, which are in turn distinguished according to their "territorial establishment". I aim to shed a new light on the ongoing social conflicts in all of Quebec's countryside that are due to the increase of "new-inhabitants" whose world views are in opposition to the always decreasing farmers. With a village as observatory, I account for the "totalizing movement" of the social life experience in both its material and symbolic dimensions. I study the main forms of life (religious, economic, and political) with multivarious methods: "participant observation", statistical analysis, analysis of discourse, as well as the municipal archives and oral history.
The analysis of the diverse forms of social life shows that they are organized according to two main models: the public and communautarian model, and the private and familial one. The former model comprises individuals who value the State's and professionals interference in the redistribution of goods as well as in the development of the countryside. These individuals occupy a marginal economic position in the village, and their positions and world views are closer to urban individuals. As for the private and familial model, it comprises individuals who defends both the predominant role of family network in the development of the village, and the separation of the village from the exogenous market competition and political interventions. This model's representatives occupy a local dominant economic position, but feel more and more politically dominated in the regional political scene by their representatives and professionals, as well as in the world economy where they occupy a dominated position. The underlying oppositions of these two models are anchored in an age-old history that displays, on the one hand, the traditional elite associated to the Church and the francophone educated notaries, and, on the other hand, the industrial and commercial elite that succeeded to the Anglophones in the 1920s. The meaning and content of the models lightly vary with recent transformations in the family structure and with the regionalization of the political and religious powers.

Cultivating domesticity : the Homemakers' Clubs of Saskatchewan, 1911-1961.Milne, Jennifer E 22 July 2005
On January 31, 1911, the Homemakers' Clubs of Saskatchewan became an official organisation under the direction of the University of Saskatchewan. Established to provide isolated rural women with companionship, access to education, and the opportunity to carry out community service, Homemakers' Clubs appealed to thousands of farm women because they provided the means by which they could improve themselves, their farm homes, and their communities. Its appeal also lay in the fact that the organisation remained non-political and non-sectarian, focusing instead on women's primary responsibilities to their homes and their families. To that end, Homemakers' Clubs embraced a domestic ideology that institionalised notions of gender and celebrated women's roles in the home. Given that the nature of farm women's work was not restricted to the household, however, Homemakers' Clubs allowed rural women to redefine an urban domesticity to include their farming responsibilities. Moreover, in a setting where gender lines were often blurred and the division of labour was not always strictly defined, membership in an organisation that reinforced gender roles, promoted family and community life, and embraced a traditional mandate provided farm women with a level of respectability and femininity that was often lost in a farming setting. Finally, the domestic ideology under which the Homemakers' Clubs operated allowed its members to find recognition and validation in their work, and, in their goals to elevate home life, to legitimise their work, and to adjust domestic ideology to include their farming responsibilities, the organisation became a space in which its members discussed, debated, explored, and, in some cases, challenged common perceptions of women; they subtly challenged the status quo and demanded validation and recognition for their work in and contributions to their farms and communities. As such, an organisation that may outwardly appear to be a traditional women's organisation devoted strictly to the exchange of recipes and household advice, was, in actuality, quietly political and provided farm women with a sense of identity that enabled them to contribute fundamentally to their rural homes, families, and communities.
