The complexity linked to the supply chain, as well as the economic and social importance that family agriculture represents for the country, are factors that drive scientific research. The dynamic nature of the business world is remarkable, and the strategies necessary to overcome the adversities imposed by the environment are inseparable. In this context, the present research aims to analyze the bottlenecks for the business processes of the supply chain of the fruit pulp sector, starting from the relationship between processing agroindustries and family farmer. The theoretical framework was supported by the Systematic Bibliographic Rreview (RBS), which provided the identification of the state of the art on Supply Chain Management (SCM) and business processes, as well as served as a conceptual basis for the construction of the research questionnaires. For this purpose, the case study was adopted as a method, which allowed the understanding of the dialectal relationship between family farmers and fruit pulp processing agro-industries. Data were collected through questionnaires applied to four pulp processing agroindustries and 30 rural producers from the West of São Paulo State. Data analysis was supported by descriptive statistics and the Gray Relational Analysis (GRA) method. The results revealed eight bottleneck business processes for the family farmers and two for the processing agroindustries. For rural producers, the following bottlenecks were found Product Development and commercialization II (0,555), Returns Management II Demand Management I (0.524), Customer Relationship Management I (0.486), Supplier Relationship Management II (0.478), Manufacturing Flow Management I (0,447), Returns Management III (0,380) and Demand Management II (0,339). For agribusiness, the bottleneck processes were: Customer Relationship Management I (0.786), Product Development and Commercialization I (0.760), Product Development and Commercialization II (0.718), Demand Management I (0.708), Returns Management I (0.577) and Returns Management II (0.577). The study contributed to the understanding of the dialect relationship, as well as to the recognition of the institutional markets in order to strengthen the weakest link in the supply chain. In view of the results presented here, it is observed that the supply chain of the fruit pulp sector faces a series of challenges. Such challenges extend beyond rural property boundaries, including structural, historical, social, cultural, and organizational factors. Regarding the operational aspects, it is noticeable that most agents are not willing to act based on the management aspects proposed by SCM. For this to occur, it is fundamental that there are relations of interdependence and mainly mutual interest in the delimitation of cooperative partnerships and principles. Therefore, it is concluded that achieving synergy requires more than investments and government support, but mainly credibility, trust, and interest in sharing strategic information. The identification of the bottleneck business processes is important as it allows to outline proposals that aim to overcome the bottlenecks and achieve better supply chain efficiency. As a proposal for future research, it is suggested the development of an agroindustrial supply chain evaluation model that addresses the problems according to their particular specificities and finds better integration solutions. / FAPESP: 2016.05.285-1

Memory management techniques for large-scale persistent-main-memory systems

Oukid, Ismail, Booss, Daniel, Lespinasse, Adrien, Lehner, Wolfgang, Willhalm, Thomas, Gomes, Grégoire 10 January 2023 (has links)
Storage Class Memory (SCM) is a novel class of memory technologies that promise to revolutionize database architectures. SCM is byte-addressable and exhibits latencies similar to those of DRAM, while being non-volatile. Hence, SCM could replace both main memory and storage, enabling a novel single-level database architecture without the traditional I/O bottleneck. Fail-safe persistent SCM allocation can be considered conditio sine qua non for enabling this novel architecture paradigm for database management systems. In this paper we present PAllocator, a fail-safe persistent SCM allocator whose design emphasizes high concurrency and capacity scalability. Contrary to previous works, PAllocator thoroughly addresses the important challenge of persistent memory fragmentation by implementing an efficient defragmentation algorithm. We show that PAllocator outperforms state-of-the-art persistent allocators by up to one order of magnitude, both in operation throughput and recovery time, and enables up to 2.39x higher operation throughput on a persistent B-Tree.

Alignment of supply chain management practices with policies and regulations in state owned entities in South Africa

Setino, Rebecca 06 1900 (has links)
The study examined the alignment of Supply Chain Management (SCM) practices with the policies and regulations in State-Owned Entities (SOEs) in South Africa. SCM plays a crucial role in the implementation of service delivery programmes and the achievement of socioeconomic imperatives in SOEs in South Africa. However, there is a substantial misalignment between SCM practices and the relevant policies and regulations, which negatively influences the performance of SOEs in South Africa. The research study was designed to employ a combination of exploratory and descriptive research, using quantitative approaches based on a survey of SCM managers in SOEs in South Africa. A structured questionnaire was administered to SCM managers who were selected using simple random sampling. Descriptive statistics using the software, SPSS version 21.0, was used for the statistical analysis and to provide the descriptive analysis results. In addition, Smart PLS 2.0 M3 was used for structural Equation Modelling to assess the alignment between the key variables. The results of the study revealed that, in general, there is an alignment between SCM practices and SCM policies and regulations. However, based on the analysis of the four constructs that were used in the study (SCM strategy, SCM policies and regulations, SCM practices, and SCM performance), the results revealed a misalignment between SCM strategy and SCM performance. The study further revealed a positive and weak relationship between Enterprise Supplier Development (ESD) and SCM performance in SOEs. The poor implementation of these two practices compromises the contribution of SCM to socioeconomic imperatives, and consequently SCM. The results of the five SCM policies and regulations that were examined indicated the poor implementation of Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Act (BBBEEA) across SOEs. The study suggests a conceptual framework for SCM in SOEs to enable them to enhance their performance. The study provides an understanding of how SCM could be applied efficiently in the SOEs environment and it provides new insights to the body of knowledge. / Applied Management / D. Admin. Optimering av packkonfiguration inom varuflöde / Optimization of pre pack in the supply chain

Muhieddine, Tamara, Suneson, Julia January 2016 (has links)
An increasing number of retail groups is facing problems with optimizing distribution and replenishment of products to serve stores. Lead times in the fashion industry are long and dealers often have to plan their purchases several months in advance for the coming seasons. The products are packed in production before they are sent to the central warehouse. Decisions about the pack configuration are made in connection with the purchase order. By packaging multiple stock-keeping units (SKUs) together, the efficiency increase and the costs in the supply chain can be reduced, while misallocation costs may arise. The master thesis is performed at the Venue Retail Group, which is a leading group in the Nordic region within the accessories, travel equipment and shoes. The objective of the paper is to identify the optimal pack configuration in order to generate increased turnover sales within the supply chain for own production synthetic bags. In this paper the pack problem is formulated as an optimization problem. A model is designed to determine the optimal packing order quantities that satisfy every store category's forecasted demand with the goal to minimize the total costs. By mapping product flow and identifying costs related to pack configuration the paper suggest a change of Venue Retail Groups existing pack strategy to achieve the objective.

Chung, Pei-Yu Unknown Date (has links)
The use of subsidies as environmental policy instruments has increased in recent years since firms usually aren’t willing to pay for the expense of pollution prevention and control. Environmental subsidies involving financial support by the government, as an economical incentive approach, are deemed to be important and effective by many researchers. However, it still remains controversial because some researchers argue that government intervention would always result in resources distortion and economic inefficiency. Therefore, this thesis focuses on subsidies with a positive impact on the environment and aims to discuss their utility and compatibility with relevant WTO covered agreements, especially the Agreement on Subsidies and Countervailing Measure (the SCM Agreement). The thesis first introduces the definition, scope and practice of environmental subsidies, and, by using literature review, presents several studies on the environmental and economic impact of environmental subsidies. The thesis then discusses the relevant regulations under the SCM Agreement framework and finds that environmental subsidies may be categorized as more than one type, ie non-actionable subsidy, of subsidies under the SCM Agreement. Furthermore, the thesis also analyzes how environmental subsidies can be designed in a way that complies with the SCM Agreement, thus avoiding the risk of being challenged under the WTO by other WTO Members. Finally, the thesis examines various types of environmental subsidies provided by Taiwanese government to understand whether they are consistent with the regulations of the SCM Agreement. Suggestions based on this research are put forward at the end of the thesis.

Activation des dopants implantés dans le carbure de silicium (3C-SiC et 4H-SiC) / Implanted dopants activation in silicon carbide (3C-SiC and 4H-SiC)

Song, Xi 13 June 2012 (has links)
This work was dedicated to the activation of implanted dopants in 3C-SiC and 4H-SiC. The goal is to propose optimized process conditions for n-type implantation in 3C-SiC and for p-type in 4H-SiC.We have first studied the n-type implantation in 3C-SiC. To do so, N, P implantations, N&P co-implantation and the associated annealings were performed. The nitrogen implanted sample, annealed at 1400°C-30 min evidences a dopant activation rate close to 100% while maintaining a good crystal quality. Furthermore, the electrical properties of extended defects in 3C-SiC have been studied. Using the SSRM measurements, we have evidenced for the first time that these defects have a very high electrical activity and as a consequence on future devices. Then, we have realized a study on p-type doping by Al implantation in 4H-SiC with different implantation and annealing temperatures. Al implantation at 200°C followed by an annealing at 1850°C-30min lead to the best results in terms of physical and electrical properties.

Impacts of IoT on Supply chain management : Case of E-commerce Firms

ZandiZand, Sajjad January 2023 (has links)
In a complex and challenging global economy for supply chains to improve their performance, different types of technologies are deployed. The Internet of things (IoT) as one of these technologies enables devices to be connected via a network, i.e. internet. This connectivity provides a variety of possibilities, capabilities, and values to the chain. The scope of this study is to analyze the impacts of IoT on the SCM of e-commerce. By deploying a qualitative approach, the study aims to identify the capabilities enabled by IoT and find a connection between the capabilities and challenges that e-commerces faces in their supply chain management. The research is based on reviewing existing literature, followed by empirical investigation, conducting interviews, and secondary data driven from 3PL to cover focal actors in the case of e-commerce SCM.  IoT technology and the knowledge around it as a resource to SCM of these firms is studied in a resource-based view to understand what role IoT plays in gaining competitive advantage for such firms.  The empirical of this thesis is gathered by interviews with supply chain managers of medium-sized e-commerce firms and a warehouse associate. In addition, the DHL fulfillment center is used as the secondary data stream.

Data Structure Engineering For Byte-Addressable Non-Volatile Memory

Oukid, Ismail, Lehner, Wolfgang 30 June 2022 (has links)
Storage Class Memory (SCM) is emerging as a viable alternative to traditional DRAM, alleviating its scalability limits, both in terms of capacity and energy consumption, while being non-volatile. Hence, SCM has the potential to become a universal memory, blurring well-known storage hierarchies. However, along with opportunities, SCM brings many challenges. In this tutorial we will dissect SCM challenges and provide an in-depth view of existing programming models that circumvent them, as well as novel data structures that stem from these models. We will also elaborate on fail-safety testing challenges -- an often overlooked, yet important topic. Finally, we will discuss SCM emulation techniques for end-to-end testing of SCM-based software components. In contrast to surveys investigating the use of SCM in database systems, this tutorial is designed as a programming guide for researchers and professionals interested in leveraging SCM in database systems.
