The order of the day : Script error in military organisations and violence against civilians

In an attempt to understand the micro-dimensional mechanisms of how some individuals come to perpetrate violence against civilians during wartime, this thesis adopts a theory from organisational psychology. By looking at the military as a professional organisation, violence against civilians perpetrated by state armies during wartime is theorised to be the outcome of a process of script error wherein military scripts of non-combatant immunity fail. The theory is applied on the massacre in My Lai, during the Vietnam war. Findings showed that the mechanism of script error did not play out completely as theorised, however that military scripts did dictate behaviour and that a script error was present to some degree as civilians came to be targeted as if they were enemies. Some mechanisms used in previous research on violence against civilians were supported by this study and could also be integrated into the framework of organisational scripts, showing the explanatory value that organisational scripts have to further understand military violence. The study contributes to a deeper understanding of an important historical case, shows the value of introducing organisational psychology into studies of the military organisation and finally helps us further make sense of situations of violent transgression.  organisational scripts, script error, military violence, violence against civilians, mass violence, atrocity, My Lai

En studie av lärares reflektioner av att möta icke-cis elever i skolmiljö. Examensarbete i Sexologi 30 högskolepoäng. Malmö universitet: Fakulteten för hälsa och samhälle. 2018.Bakgrund: En normkritisk pedagogik och diskurs har de senaste åren implementerats runt om i landets skolor. Trots detta mår ungdomar som är icke-cis betydligt sämre än jämförande grupp av cis- elever. Enligt styrdokumenten ska läraren möta varje elev utifrån deras förutsättningar och behov, men samtidigt skapa goda relationer åt alla håll.Syfte: Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka hur lärare som arbetar normkritiskt reflekterar och funderar kring synen på läraruppdraget i relation till de elever som inte är cis- personer.Metod: Semistrukturerade intervjuer i fokusgrupper online med kvalitativ metod. Totalt fyra intervjuer med tre till fyra deltagande legitimerade lärare i varje. Resultat och analys: De intervjuade lärarna var eniga kring uppdraget och att en normkritisk pedagogik bör genomsyra skolan. Stöd finns för detta förhållningssätt i samtliga styrdokument som berör skolmiljön. Komplexiteten består av att även om en lärare gör allt som står i hens makt för att arbeta normkritiskt finns en rad hinder, exempelvis vårdnadshavare med en äldre diskurs i vilken bara två kön finns, kollegor som konstant använder kill- och tjejgrupper. Omklädningsrum som är helt könade samt elever som agerar diskriminerande och ifrågasättande kring könsidentitet. Därtill en rad andra specialbehov som kräver både fortbildningsinsatser och tid som inte finns i en redan fullspäckad arbetsmiljö. Konklusion: Trots styrdokumentens stringens kring värdegrund och normkritik, finns inte enbart en normkritisk diskurs inom ramen för skolmiljön utan en rad äldre diskurser lever kvar, vilka syns i strukturer och handlingar. För de lärare som ämnar leva upp till styrdokumenten och arbeta normkritiskt finns därför en rad hinder. Kring dessa hinder tycks det inte finnas några strukturella lösningar, utgångspunkter eller regler. Det lämnas allt förmycket utrymme i skolans värld till enskilda och personliga lösningar för icke-cis elever. Dessutom finns en total avsaknad av konsekvenser för personer som inte arbetar normkritiskt vilket leder till att allt för stort utrymme för andra diskurser än den normkritiska. Nevertheless, young people who are non-cis are significantly worse than the comparative group of cis pupils. On the one hand, the teacher will meet each student based on their prerequisites and needs, but on the other hand, create good relationships in all directions.Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to invstigate how teachers who work norm critically reflect and think about the view of teacher assignment in relation to those non-cis students .Method: Semi-structured interviews in focus groups online with qualitative methodology. A total of four interviews with three to four participating legitimate teachers in each.Results and Analysis: The interviewed teachers agreed on the assignment and that norm-critical education should penetrate school. There is support for this approach in all governing documents relating to the school environment. The complexity is that even if a teacher does everything in his power to work normally, there are a number of obstacles, such as guardians with an older discourse in which there are only two sexes, colleagues who constantly use boy- and girl groups. Fully gendered dressing rooms as well as students acting discriminatory and questioning about gender identity. In addition, a number of other special needs that require both training efforts and time that are not in an already packaged work environment.Conclusion: In spite of the strictness of the guideline's string of values and norm criticism, there is not only a norm-critical discourse within the school environment, but a number of older discourses remain, which are seen in structures and actions. For those teachers who intend to live up to the control documents and work normally, there are therefore a number of obstacles. Around these barriers, there appear to be no structural solutions, starting points or rules. It leaves all the available space in the school world to individual and personal solutions for non-cis students. In addition, there is a total lack of consequences for people who do not work normally, which leads to too much room for discourses other than the norm critical.Keywords: discourse, congestion, script curriculum, teachers

Det ultimata självskadebeteendet -En foucauldiansk genealogisk diskursanalys av medias framställning av sex som självskadebeteende

Sex som självskadebeteende är idag ett väletablerat begrepp inom den samhälleliga diskursen i Sverige. Fenomenet har konstruerats i en populärkulturell diskurs. Den vetenskapliga forskningen har först efter att begreppet befästs börjat studera fenomenet, som inom forskningen benämns sex as self-injury (SASI). Denna studie har som syfte att utforska medias roll i att konstruera och etablera begreppet sex som självskadebeteende, genom att erbjuda en vetenskapligt grundad analys för framväxten och utvecklingen av diskursen om fenomenet mellan 2008-2019. Det empiriska materialet består av 87 tidningsartiklar och 9 radioprogram insamlade från Retriever Mediearkivets databas. Det mediala materialet har tolkats och analyserats med stöd av Jean Carabines Guide to doing Foucauldian genealogical discourse analysis (Carabine, 2001). Det empiriska materialet kategoriseras som tre diskursiva spår: ”14 år till salu”, Rättsfall och Forskning. Effekterna av den mediala diskursen om sex som självskadebeteende analyseras också med stöd av Gayle Rubins sexuella värdehierarki (Rubin, 1984). Det mediala materialet visar på att diskursen om sex som självskadebeteende växte fram i samband med utgivningen av Caroline Engvalls bok 14 år till salu år 2008 och har sedan utvecklats vidare genom rapporteringen av rättsfall där fenomenet aktualiserats, samt genom, framförallt det senaste årets, rapportering om forskningen om sex som självskada. Studiens resultat visar att media har haft en omfattande roll i att skapa och definiera förståelsen av sex som självskadebeteende. Resultatet visar också på den mediala diskursens effekter på den begränsade forskning som gjorts om sex som självskada, vilket diskuteras i denna studie. / Sex as self-injury is today a well established concept within the social discourse in Sweden. The phenomenon has been constructed in a popular cultural discourse. The scientific research has only after that the concept has been fortified began to study the phenomenon, which in research is referred to as sex as self-injury (SASI). [In Swedish there is a difference between what the phenomenon is called in research and what it is called within the social discourse, but this difference does not remain when it is translated into English.] The purpose of this study is to explore the role of the media in constructing and establishing the concept sex as self-injury, by offering a scientifically grounded analysis of the growth and development of the discourse about the phenomenon during 2008-2019. The empirical material consists of 87 newspaper articles and 9 radio programmes collected from the media archive database Retriever Mediearkivet. The medial material has been interpreted and analyzed with support of Jean Carabine’s Guide to doing Foucauldian genealogical discourse analysis (Carabine, 2001). The empirical material is categorized as three discursive tracks: ”14 år till salu” [“14 years for sale”], Rättsfall [Court cases] and Forskning [Research]. The effects of the medial discourse about sex as self-injury are also analyzed, with support of Gayle Rubin’s sex hierarchy (Rubin, 1984). The medial material shows that the discourse about sex as self-injury grew out in conjunction with the release of Caroline Engvall’s book 14 år till salu [14 years for sale] in 2008 and has since then developed further through the reporting on court cases which has actualized the phenomenon, and through, especially the last year’s, reporting on the research about sex as self-injury. The result of the study shows that the media has had an extensive role in creating and defining the understanding of sex as self-injury. The result also shows the medial discourse effects on the limited research that has been done on sex as self-injury, which is discussed in this study.

Detekce útoku SlowDrop / SlowDrop attack detection

The diploma thesis is focused on the detection of a slow DoS attack named SlowDrop. The attack tries to imitate a legitimate person with a slow internet connection and does not show a new strong signature, so the attack is difficult to detect. The diploma thesis is based on the work of Ing. Mazanek in which the SlowDrop attack script was created. At the theoretical level, the issue of DoS attacks is described in general, but also in particular. Furthermore, the work develops methods for solving the problem of SlowDrop attack detection. The methods are then defined in detail and tested in a simulation environment. The practical part describes data analysis, signature detection, anomaly detection using neural networks and a detection script. In all practical parts, the used technologies and solution procedures are described in detail. The specific implementation of the solution and the achieved results are also presented. Finally, the individual results are evaluated, compared individually, but also among themselves. The obtained results show that the attack is detectable using a neural network and by created detection script.

Automatická konfigurace pracovních stanic Cisco akademie / Automatic configuration of workstations in Cisco academy laboratory

My thesis is focused on the subject of working with distant stations connected with the laboratory control of Cisco academy. Station operations, i.e. laboratory control, have been carried in the environment of the Linux operating systems. The first part of the thesis includes a description of the laboratory, its network architecture and software equipment. Also, the VMware tool is described here. VMware tool is intended for virtualization of computer stations, where the virtual station is created. In this virtual station another operating system may be run. The problems of the command interpreter, its function and possibilities are described here too. Main attention is devoted to the Bash command interpreter and to the creation of the scripts. There are descriptions of the basic tools intended for the network communication with the distant stations. Among the most important parts belong the protected communication, the production of the autentization keys as well as the tool for data recording on more stations at the same time. The description of the access rights to the files and directories is included too. The target of this thesis was to create the scripts in the Bash programming language. The scripts are focused on working with the laboratory stations. They are the sublayers of the common project for this laboratory control. They were developed for the cooperation with the the web interface and MySQL database, created by Bc. Zdeněk Hrabal. The Scripts are intended for the finding information about the stations and virtual systems, and also for the recording images and configuration files of the virtual systems at the distant stations. Recording files and directories is enabled too. The other scripts deal with the erasing and changing of the rights of the particular files and directories. Setting commads with the super-user competence is used at this place. The scripts for the switching on and off the laboratory workstations were created too. To solve the problem described above I chose to develope more scripts. Each of them subserves the particular part of the task. The form of the input and output data of the scripts was select with the reference to the cooperation with the web interface and database. The data are implemented by the form of the input and output files. The output information and the process of the carried operations are displayed through the web interface. The scripts together with the web interface are placed and run from the school server adela.utko.feec.vutbr.cz. In the thesis the settings of the access privileges for the current directories and the files of virtual systems and scripts are presented too.

Automatická tvorba 3D modelů v programu Blender / Automatic Creation of 3D Models in Application Blender

This text was written as part of a master's thesis. It describes development of an automatic generator of 3D models for Blender. After a brief introduction to the Blender application some of existing scripts for 3D model creation (tested as part of theoretical research) are presented. After an analysis of features required from an automatic generator various types of swords were chosen as the suitable class of objects for the automatic creation. Next part of this thesis presents basic terms in this field, namely the nomenclature of the swords and other related weapons. Their most important properties are listed and explained. The chapter also provides a simplified abstract of the sword typology. Following chapters describe main ideas of creating the model, explain principles and mathematics behind used algorithms and procedures and provide information about realization of the GUI as well as testing and optimisation. As the text explains these issues, sugestions about possible future enhancements are made. Document is concluded with an evaluation of all achievements and argues impact of this work on its field.

La tesis presentada es un trabajo de investigación y desarrollo de una aplicación interactiva educativa para niños de 3 a 5 años utilizando el middleware Ginga en su versión libre Ginga-NCL y ayudándonos del lenguaje script Lua. Se han realizado pruebas de la aplicación en tres escenarios: ejecución en un entorno virtual, ejecución en un STB cargando la aplicación a través del puerto USB y utilizando un equipo playout. En el último escenario, se ha podido comprobar que es posible realizar la implementación de la aplicación interactiva enviándola por el aire a través de la trama de transporte MPEG-2 Transport Stream, ejecutándola en un equipo receptor (STB). Se realizó una aplicación que hace de interactividad local: selección de opciones con el control remoto e interactividad remota: envío de datos de la aplicación a un servidor web. / This thesis is a research and development of an interactive educational application for children from 3 to 5 years using the Ginga middleware in its open source version Ginga-NCL and complementing it with the Lua scripting language. Tests were carried out in three scenarios: running the application in a virtual environment, running it on an STB loading the application via USB port and using a playout equipment. In the last scenario, it has been found that it is possible to implement the interactive application sending it through air, in the MPEG-2 Transport Stream, and running it on a receiving equipment (STB). Comparaison des propriétés métriques des scores obtenus avec un test de concordance de script au regard de trois méthodes de détermination des scores

Le test de concordance de script (TCS) est un outil qui vise à mesurer le raisonnement clinique (RC) des apprenants en contexte d’incertitude en comparaison à celui des experts. La nature de cet instrument fait en sorte que le processus de détermination des scores est névralgique et influence ainsi l’interprétation de ces derniers. Le but de cette recherche à caractère exploratoire était d’examiner l’impact de trois méthodes de détermination des scores sur les propriétés métriques des scores obtenus avec un TCS. Nous avons réalisé une analyse secondaire de données recueillies entre 2010 et 2014 auprès de 160 étudiants inscrits dans un programme de médecine familiale à l'Université de Liège en Belgique. Ainsi la théorie classique des tests et le modèle de Rasch ont été mis à contribution. Selon les résultats obtenus, la méthode selon la bonne réponse n’est pas recommandée. En revanche, la méthode des scores combinés très utilisée dans le contexte du TCS n’a pas prouvé, selon nous, sa supériorité sur la méthode avec pénalité de distance. D’autres études s’avèrent nécessaires pour approfondir ces résultats.
