Vzdělávání romských dětí v České republice / Education of Roma children in the Czech Republic

Zarzycká, Andrea January 2009 (has links)
Diploma thesis "Education of Roma children in the Czech Republic" deals with the issue of the status quo in education of Roma children. The aim is to analyze the situation in the education of Roma children in the Czech Republic and to compare it with other European countries and find examples of good practice. The educational situation of Roma pupils remains unsatisfactory, not only in the Czech Republic but also in other European countries. Roma pupils continue to be subject to exclusion in quality education resulting from variety of many interrelated factors including poor living conditions of parents, especially high unemployment, low education level and living in social exclusion. It is necessary to make systemic changes in order to increase the quality education chances of Roma children, because the Roma population belongs among the most socially vulnerable groups affected by a variety of risk factors that often result in cumulative disadvantages and often bring the Roma into the spiral of mechanisms leading to social exclusion.

När alla går iväg : En studie om hur utanförskap gestaltas i bilderböcker / When everyone walks away : A study about how social exclusion is portrayed in picture books

Åström, Rebecka January 2016 (has links)
The aim of the study is to investigate how social exclusion is portrayed in four picture books through text and images, and through the interaction between them. The studied picture books are Alla går iväg by Eva Lindström, Lenka by Katalin Szegedi, Pricken by Margret Rey and Snäll by Gro Dahle. The result shows that the social exclusion is described as being caused by different factors. From the analysis it is obvious that the social environment plays a major role and also that both children and adults can be the reason for the exclusion. The picture-book analysis includes a study of how social exclusion based on appearance and invisibility is communicated in text and pictures. This can be done by showing the characters depressed and invisible to the people around them, for example, through resigned looks or captured behind a forced smile.

Unga män från förorten : Riskfaktorer som leder till kriminalitet / Young males in disadvantaged metropolitan neighborhoods : Risk factors that lead to a criminal lifestyle

Durrani, Sonia January 2019 (has links)
The main purpose of this study is to investigate how we can understand the correlation between social vulnerability and crime among young men with a foreign background. I intend to highlight the reality of the everyday life of six convicted young men shortly before they committed criminal acts as I aim to understand the influence of socioeconomic risk factors in their lives. The selected research method is a qualitative text analysis based on a true criminal case which occurred in a disadvantaged Stockholm suburb. The selected young men who appear in this study are aged between 17-21 and were among the main suspects. The empirical data consists of verbatim transcripts of interrogation interviews with police investigators and the court verdict. The study’s results have been analyzed based on the theory of dynamics of human behavior and on the basis of risk factors. The results show that all the young men have poor school results, poor communication with their family and that all live in cramped housing conditions that does not offer enough opportunity for private space. Several of the young men lack income and employment and are financially supported by family members. In summary, the results show that the social risk factors that occur in their lives are similar and that their current life situation is a result of the social existence in which they reside.

Putting ostracism into perspective: young children tell more mentalistic stories after exclusion, but not when anxious

White, Lars O., Klein, Annette M., von Klitzing, Kai, Graneist, Alice, Otto, Yvonne, Hill, Jonathan, Over, Harriet, Fonagy, Peter, Crowley, Michael J. January 2016 (has links)
Much is known about when children acquire an understanding of mental states, but few, if any, experiments identify social contexts in which children tend to use this capacity and dispositions that influence its usage. Social exclusion is a common situation that compels us to reconnect with new parties, which may crucially involve attending to those parties’ mental states. Across two studies, this line of inquiry was extended to typically developing preschoolers (Study 1) and young children with and without anxiety disorder (AD) (Study 2). Children played the virtual game of toss “Cyberball” ostensibly over the Internet with two peers who first played fair (inclusion), but eventually threw very few balls to the child (exclusion). Before and after Cyberball, children in both studies completed stories about peer-scenarios. For Study 1, 36 typically developing 5-year-olds were randomly assigned to regular exclusion (for no apparent reason) or accidental exclusion (due to an alleged computer malfunction). Compared to accidental exclusion, regular exclusion led children to portray story-characters more strongly as intentional agents (intentionality), with use of more mental state language (MSL), and more between-character affiliation in post-Cyberball stories. For Study 2, 20 clinically referred 4 to 8-year-olds with AD and 15 age- and gender-matched non-anxious controls completed stories before and after regular exclusion. While we replicated the post regular-exclusion increase of intentional and MSL portrayals of story-characters among non-anxious controls, anxious children exhibited a decline on both dimensions after regular exclusion. We conclude that exclusion typically induces young children to mentalize, enabling more effective reconnection with others. However, excessive anxiety may impair controlled mentalizing, which may, in turn, hamper effective reconnection with others after exclusion.

Participace a reprezentace Romů v Česku zejména při sociálním začleňování / Participation and Representation of Roma in the Czech Republic, Especially in Social Inclusion

Šimáček, Martin January 2016 (has links)
Diploma thesis deals with the participation and representation of Roma in the Czech Republic mainly in social inclusion. Generally in the Czech Republic the principles of the participation are underused during the development and implementation of public policies. A certain change occurs at the local level. In some towns there are gradually promoted models of the participation and representation of the population of excluded localities. This thesis deals by the methods of case study, summative evaluation and observation with implementation of certain local good practice: the system of the caretaking in the town Kadaň - Prunéřov, which primarily addresses the issue of housing in the socially excluded locality, but with the full participation of its people, including the creation of a natural representation, leading to the improvement of social skills of people, their self-confidence and willingness to engage in solving their unsatisfactory situation. The thesis also summarizes the development in the formation of Roma representation at the highest level since the 90s of the last century and its adverse impact on the development of real participation of Roma in social inclusion at all levels of administration. Therefore there is a contrast between the situation in the participation and representation...

Special attention is paid to the role of schools in the process of boundary constructions. Larger framework of the research is integration, segregation and assimilation tendencies of school systems. The dissertation is based upon long-term qualitative inductive and ethnographic fieldwork. The central method of my fieldwork is observation. Politická dimenze sociální exkluze seniorů jako důsledek digitální propasti / The political dimension of social exclusion of elderly people as a result of the digital divide

Chmelíková, Tereza January 2019 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with the phenomenon of the digital divide and its influence on the quality of life of seniors. The digital divide - a product of the modern information society - is one of the major factors influencing the social exclusion of elderly people. The theoretical part of theses introduces the concept of active aging as a way of successful solving problems associated with the population ageing, as well as a prevention of the exclusion of seniors from both society and participation in public affairs. The author mainly focuses on the issue of how are seniors in the Czech Republic at risk of exclusion as a result of digital exclusion. In the practical part, the present level of digital literacy of Czech seniors is explored. Following qualitative research - semi-structured interviews with experts - aims to find out whether the digital divide represents a social problem for the elderly people in the Czech Republic that contributes to their inequal position among the society, or even causes their exclusion from the participation in governance, and consequently, reduces the quality of their lives.
