We try the demonstrate that the Gospels narratives are indiciary of the communities identity that generate them, in the Greek-roman World, that orality and textuality has the same influence. Therefore, will study the colletive memory as oral tradition formative, as well the orality and textuality relation in Synoptic Gospels narratives and memories. The choice of the pericope is justified by the texts indicate a identity linked to Judaic culture, in that the Sabbath was a most important identity symbol of the Judaism of 1th Century. In this way the Protochristians communities has arguments to defend of accusations and in the same time define boundaries to insert their place in relation to other intrajudaic groups. Finally, in the elaboration of this document, each community choice a specific literary genre, closer to text purpose. In this way is possible identify which Gospel is closer to Judaic environment and which them is so far. In their narratives, the Evangelists want affirm whom is Jesus to the community as well, establishing his messianic identity. In the specific pericope, the most important logia is that affirm Jesus Son of Man as Lord of the Sabbath. Jesus assumes the community prototype, while the Pharisees, Jesus opponents, assume the role of their that dont have any concerned about the neighbor, try the justify themselves by the strict observance of the mosaic Law.

Fariseus e Jesus : teologia e espiritualidade em relação ao sábado a partir de Mc 3:1-6 : características e avaliação crítica / The Pharisees and Jesus : theology and spirituality in relation to the Sabbath based on Mk. 3:1-6 : characteristics and critical evaluation

Vanderlei Alberto Schach 27 April 2007 (has links)
An analysis of a political-religious group in first-century Judaism, i.e. the Pharisses, in confrontation with the teachings of Jesus Christ. Firstly, the origin and presuppositions of the theology of the Pharesees are analyzed, involving a general characterization of the group of the Pharisees and a brief description of competing groups (Sadducees, Essenes, etc.). Then, the focus is the conflict between Jesus and the Pharisees in relation to the Sabbath, with Mark 3:1-6 as the point of departure. At the same time, parallels are drawn between the Pharisees and their relationship with Jesus. An excursus on the Jewish Sabbath is also included. In the last part of the paper, the main topic is the continuity and discontinuity on the part of Jesus and his position vis-à-vis the Sabbath, as well as points of convergence and points of divergence between Jesus and the Pharisees.

Ježíš uzdravuje v sobotu: Mk 3,1-6 / Jesus Heals on Sabath Day: Mark 3:1-6

Kadlec, Tomáš January 2021 (has links)
There are several references to the passion of Jesus Christ in the Gospels even before the Crucifixion narrative. The diploma thesis discusses the first reference to Jesus' suffering in the Marcan version (Mark 3:1-6). It narrates the healing of a man with withered hand, which Jesus performed in the synagogue on the day of Sabbath before the eyes of Pharisees and Herodians. This is the last one in series of five Galilean conflicts. The importance of the passage is among others in its context with the crucifixion. The thesis starts with examination of the text from a perspective of textual criticism, context, and synoptic comparison. It also discusses the themes of the passage from the perspective of biblical symbolism: synagogue, Sabbath, hand, dry/withered, healing, Pharisees, and Herodians. The last chapter focuses on the revelation of Jesus' power, which approves him as the Lord of the Sabbath here and at the same time functions as a reference to his future crucifixion and resurrection.

Sabbath, Jubilee, and the Repair of the World

Hurkmans, William Robert 22 March 2012 (has links)

The ancient themes of Sabbath and Jubilee are woven throughout the biblical narrative and form the basis of the Israel's identity under Yahweh. Four threads in particular - the release of slaves, the forgiveness of debts, the fallowing of land, and the redistribution of capital - create the ethical backbone of God's people. These themes were amplified by the prophets and assumed by Jesus Christ himself as the content and thrust of his kingdom proclamation. Following Jesus, the early church implemented these Sabbath and Jubilee practices in their communities. Thus, the challenge today is for Christians to recapture these ancient laws as a guide to contemporary discipleship. As well, churches must be willing to envision their ministry and mission in light of this long overlooked Sabbath-Jubilee vision.
/ Master of Arts (MA)

The maleness of Christ : revelational or cultural?

Williams, Neil Harvey 11 1900 (has links)
The maleness of Christ: revelational or cultural? is a biblical-theological investigation of the significance of Christ's maleness. This thesis attempts to answer questions as to the significance and meaning ofJesus' maleness. Is the maleness of Christ revelational of God's being and character; is it foundational for the gospel; is it reflective of an ongoing created order? Is revelation and salvation impossible apart from a male redeemer? Or could Christ have been born a woman in a different time and culture? Chapter one describes the various positions and arguments: complementarian, biblical egalitarian, Christian feminist, and post-Christian feminist. Chapter two examines two related topics to the problem, namely slavery and the Sabbath. This section investigates how the church has decided, regarding other issues, what is revelational or cultural. We consider the various implications that the slavery and Sabbath debates have on our topic. Our subject relating to the significance of Christ's maleness has many interrelated concerns. In answering the questions regarding Jesus' maleness, chapter three organises much of the material under the motif of the sonship of Christ. This structure allows us to remain focused as well as interact with the differing topics affecting our concern, such as innertrinitarian relationships, the relationship between revelation and culture, the so-called subordination of the Son, the truth and status of analogy, inclusive language, and the implications of Christ as the image of God. Also included this chapter is a discussion on the relationship between Jesus and Wisdom and whether we can refer to Christ as "Daughter." The chapter concludes with a section on whether Christ's maleness either relates to an ongoing created order of male headship or allows for the transformation of patriarchy. / Philosophy and Systematic Theology / D.Th. Aspects of the Sabbath in the late second Temple period

Lizorkin, Ilya 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MPhil (Ancient Studies)--University of Stellenbosch, 2006. / This thesis is a study of five books (Jubilees, 1 and 2 Maccabees, the Damascus Document and Josephus Jewish Antiquities) that represent the literature dealing with the issue of the Sabbath in significant ways, written between 200 B.C.E. and 100 C.E. In this study the author is determined to find the most prominent ways in which various Jews of the period treated the Sabbath, considering both its theological significance and actual practical application. The author seeks to apply the literary-critical method to the study of these books by identifying how the Sabbath pericopes fit into the larger structure of each book and contribute to the overall argument of each work. After dealing with introductory issues, such as terms, methods, historical settings and methodology, the author then works through the major Sabbath-related pericopes in each book followed by a concluding summary for each book. Then author moves from detailed individual conclusions to general summaries, seeking to deduce the “big picture” of the Judaisms represented in the five works that he researched. Throughout the thesis the author is asking all of the texts the following questions: Was there a major Jewish view of the Sabbath or were the views varied within Judaisms? Was the Sabbath one of the most important issues facing the Jewish Community or was it rather a peripheral one? What was the place of Covenant with YHWH in the Sabbath thought of the day? What was the impact of the historical events of the period on the views of the Sabbath? Was the understanding(s) of the Sabbath legalistic or was there a depth of heartfelt spirituality accompanying Sabbath observance? Were the rules with regard to the Sabbath actually carried out or were they largely ignored? At the conclusion he attempts to answer these questions point by point based upon the data that he collected by studying the passages related to the Sabbath observance within the books mentioned above. This study is preliminary in nature, since it attempts to provide only some background information to the question: Did the Jewish Christians of the first century change the day of worship from Saturday to Sunday? If so, how did they do so while managing to avoid any kind of major debate over the change? This question the author plans to pursue in his forthcoming research.

For Seventh-Day Adventists, the Sabbath observance is a proof of fidelity and loyalty faithful to their God. It is a matter of obedience to sacred time reserved by the eternal and immutable law of God. It is an indispensable dogma and a bond with God from the beginning to its end. According to the followers of Adventist religion the Seventh-Day Sabbath is the center of worship and service to God and establishes such an understanding in the books of Exodus 20, 8-11, Leviticus 23, 32 and Deuteronomy 16, 6 respectively. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the question of the characteristics of the guard of the "Sabbath" by followers of Adventist religion Seventh-Day, their biblical interpretation. The practice of Sabbath guard presented as a collision of fundamental rights and principles. The right to education and work in conflict with the right to religious freedom, both public, and private, especially regarding the provision of public procurement and in the educational environment and with respect to the practice of secular and labor activities on sabbatical from the sunset of Friday to the sunset of Saturday.

Význam slavení neděle / The Importance of Sunday´s Observance

KUCHTA, Emil January 2007 (has links)
This literary work is dealing with an importance of a observance and honoring of Sunday as a free day. First part refers to the fact that in essential core of soever human being exist the cravings refering to an urge to transcendence and to periodically wrench himself free out of passing time. This can be filled for instance during the observances. In a folloving part is a progression of a significant sabbath day towards a Lord´s day delineated, also with characterization of what is a Judaic - Christian lore offering on Sundays. A closing third individually names and describes the constituent realms where the intrinsic cravings meet above named offer. In these passages is possible to descry the reasonability of Sunday celebration.
