An Integrative Approach to Interpretations of an Historical-Period Apache Scout Camp at Fort Apache, Arizona

Laluk, Nicholas January 2006 (has links)
With the encroachment of the United States military onto Apache lands many Apache men joined the military due to intolerable reservation conditions and the unique economic opportunity of enlisting as scouts for the military. This thesis attempts to better understand the relationships among military personnel, Apache scouts, and nonmilitary Apache people. By examining the material remains of a scout camp located on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation (FAIR), and integrating these findings with oral history and information collected from White Mountain Apache consultants, a better understanding of historical Western Apache life can be delineated. This thesis examines these lifeways and interactions by applying a theoretical framework adopted from Steven Silliman's practical politics, Richard White's concept of the middle ground, and Western Apache landscape knowledge and stories.

The Volleyball is one of the modalities that most popularized in Brazil. On This premise, we emphasize here the description of volleyball fundamentals and technologies applied for this modality, beyond of the use of a series of spreadsheets (Excel) customized for technical and tactical analysis and verification of the statistics generated by spreadsheets that are relevant to athletes and coaching staff. Were created and applied two questionnaires, one for technicians and another for athletes, with 10 questions each, to evaluate the importance of statistics in the interviewees vision. 8 technicians and 89 volleyball athletes with over of 18 years, male, in the Open Games 2015 participated in this study. With the responses exposed, there was the importance given by respondents to statistical games and training the team itself and the opposing teams, improving performance and being decisive to win a match, although none of the teams had interviewed an exclusive person for this job, justifying the lack of qualified professionals and high cost of specific software and equipment for this activity. After collecting the data, through filming of games, they were viewed by a television screen and notebooks so that the researcher attributed the score for the action of each player, transcribed and taken for discussion, evaluation and analysis. Each score was entered in a spreadsheet (Excel) customized for this purpose. The technical and tactical analysis (game stats) teams of Araras and Monte Aprazivel, that was winner in this tournament, showed the failures and efficiencies in the fundamentals and anothers graphical information that allowed the measure the performance in each set, tactical positioning on the court, direction of serve and attacking each of player, supporting and structuring training and matches by importance, ease of interpretation of the data issued by the spreadsheet scout.

Diseño de información y motivación hacia el material formativo de la Asociación Scouts del Perú / Design of information and motivation towards the formative material of the Scouts Association of Peru

Flores Cruz, Kamila Alexandra 02 July 2019 (has links)
Scouting is one of the largest and most recognized youth associations in the world. Its formative proposal, known as the Scout Method, works with children and young people on a personal and group level with the aim of forming better citizens. However, they have a deficit to present their formative material, causing lack of motivation among scouts to start their progression. Therefore, the main objective of this work is to redesign the training material of the Scouts of Peru Association using the tools provided by the design of information. It is expected that applying the information design as a tool can transform the training material of the Scouts of Peru Association providing an alternative that generates more motivation in scouts. The methodology used is experimental research, since it includes an experimental variable, in a fixed environment. The level of research is experimental one and the approach that has been chosen is mixed one since both the quantitative and the qualitative method will be used. The presented solution is a game for mobiles in which the scouts answer questions to go through a circuit, has the option of team play where they compete in teams. The proposal responds to the difficulties found in the current material without breaking away from the foundations of Scouting. In conclusion, after testing, 100% of scouts responded positively to the proposal, demonstrating interest in the material and motivation to start their progression, thus validating the hypothesis presented. / Trabajo de investigación

Experiences of rural girls in a historically dominated organisation: scouts in Mpumalanga, Western Cape and Eastern Cape.

Van Staden, Maria. January 2006 (has links)

This study explores the experiences of young rural girls in scouting practices, who reside in the rural areas of Mpumalanga, Western and Eastern Cape provinces of South Africa. This exploratory study draws special reference to their participation in Scout programmes in what in observed as a predominantly male-dominated organisational alignment. This exploratory study uses a qualitative feminist investigation, through focus groups and semi structured interviews to investigate the impact of these organisational change initiatives on the experiences of girls in scouting. Although the aim of the study was to explore the experiences of rural girls, boys were included in the study to explore gender dynamics and to problematise how gender inequalities can be understood and addressed in scouting.

Svanström, Erik January 2021 (has links)
This study aims to get insight into how the socio-economic background of girl scouts in Norrbotten, Sweden, looked like in the 1940s and 1950s: what were their parents occupations and their social class belonging? The study also emphasises differences in social background between girl scout groups in different places in Norrbotten and whether the girl scouts social background differed from the social structure in their places of residence. I have identified the girl scouts names from the scout corps member charts and traced parents and their occupations using the genealogical website arkivdigital.se. Next, we classified the parental occupations through the internationally recognised twelve social group HISCLASS system.Theoretically, the study uses James Vela-McConnell"s social affinity theory, which helps usunderstand how groups are constructed and why we choose the groups we do. McConnell argues that when groups form we look for something to connect us to others, that being a feeling of affection or simply a geographical closeness, for instance, as neighbours. McConnell also raises the idea that we can have a proximity not only physically but also socially. The social connection can be quite small, as in what group in class we belong to but also which social class our families are apart of. This is what this study has fokus on. The study includes girl scout corps in five towns in Norrbotten County in northernmost Sweden between 1946 and 1951: Piteå, Övertorneå, Boden, Haparanda and Pajala. A majority of the girlscouts had middle-class backgrounds. However, there were differences between the towns. In the military town Boden, most girl scout parents were upper-class militaries with higher ranks. In the nearby Piteå, where the sawmill and pulp and paper industries played significant roles, most of the girl scout parents belonged to the middle class. However, several also came from the working classas they were employees of the lumber mill. We can here see that the difference in location and that which town the girl scouts lived in greatly affected the social class of the scout group in a town as a whole. These differences continue to show themselves between the different towns and especially between the smaller and larger ones depending how usual service jobs were, which more often where in higher HISCLASS groups.

Možnosti etické výchovy ve skautském prostředí / The possibilities of ethical education in the scouting environment

FOLDYNOVÁ, Judita January 2019 (has links)
The work deals with the possibilities of ethical education in the Scout environment. First, it describes the Scout idea, such as the Scouting principles, Scout values, law, promise and ethical education. It also deals with the origin and development of Scouting in our country and in the world and its main representatives. Furthermore, it describes particular Scout activities that take place not only within small groups but also in very large ones, not only in local communities but also in the world. There are meetings of peers but also of all generations. Several life stories from the totalitarian regime demonstrate courage and loyalty to the Scout promise. Using interviews and questionnaires, a picture of how members perceive the Scouting is made - what they value, what they learnt, whether it helps them to cope with difficulties. Last but not least, a chance to criticize contemporary Scout affairs is given. Overall, Scouting offers many opportunities how to influence both individuals and the society in ethical matters and how to make the world a little better. It enables upbringing for true humanity, helps us to fight against consumerism and individualism.
