Row crop navigation by autonomous ground vehicle for crop scouting

Schmitz, Austin January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Biological & Agricultural Engineering / Daniel Flippo / Robotic vehicles have the potential to play a key role in the future of agriculture. For this to happen designs that are cost effective, robust, and easy to use will be necessary. Robotic vehicles that can pest scout, monitor crop health, and potentially plant and harvest crops will provide new ways to increase production within agriculture. At this time, the use of robotic vehicles to plant and harvest crops poses many challenges including complexity and power consumption. The incorporation of small robotic vehicles for monitoring and scouting fields has the potential to allow for easier integration of robotic systems into current farming practices as the technology continues to develop. Benefits of using unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) for crop scouting include higher resolution and real time mapping, measuring, and monitoring of pest location density, crop nutrient levels, and soil moisture levels. The focus of this research is the ability of a UGV to scout pest populations and pest patterns to complement existing scouting technology used on UAVs to capture information about nutrient and water levels. There are many challenges to integrating UGVs in conventionally planted fields of row crops including intra-row and inter-row maneuvering. For intra-row maneuvering; i.e. between two rows of corn, cost effective sensors will be needed to keep the UGV between straight rows, to follow contoured rows, and avoid local objects. Inter-row maneuvering involves navigating from long straight rows to the headlands by moving through the space between two plants in a row. Oftentimes headland rows are perpendicular to the row that the UGV is within and if the crop is corn, the spacing between plants can be as narrow as 5”. A vehicle design that minimizes or eliminates crop damage when inter-row maneuvering occurs will be very beneficial and allow for earlier integration of robotic crop scouting into conventional farming practices. Using three fixed HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensors with LabVIEW programming proved to be a cost effective, simple, solution for intra-row maneuvering of an unmanned ground vehicle through a simulated corn row. Inter-row maneuvering was accomplished by designing a transformable tracked vehicle with the two configurations of the tracks being parallel and linear. The robotic vehicle operates with tracks parallel to each other and skid steering being the method of control for traveling between rows of corn. When the robotic vehicle needs to move through narrow spaces or from one row to the next, two motors rotate the frame of the tracks to a linear configuration where one track follows the other track. In the linear configuration the vehicle has a width of 5 inches which allows it to move between corn plants in high population fields for minimally invasive maneuvers. Fleets of robotic vehicles will be required to perform scouting operations on large fields. Some robotic vehicle operations will require coordination between machines to complete the tasks assigned. Simulation of the path planning for coordination of multiple machines was studied within the context of a non-stationary traveling salesman problem to determine optimal path plans.

Nacionalistické myšlenky v liberálních spolcích: židovský spolek Makabi Hacair a československý spolek Junák / Nationalist Thoughts in Liberal Associations: the Maccabi Hatzair Jewish Association and the Czechoslovak Junák Association

Heyzl, Martin January 2021 (has links)
The diploma thesis Nationalist Thoughts in Liberal Associations: the Maccabi Hatzair Jewish Association and the Czechoslovak Junák Association deals with two liberally defined associations in the period of interwar Czechoslovakia. On the basis of selected interviews with witnesses, it examines the manifestations of nationalist (including Zionist) ideology in a liberal surroundings. Each association is represented by three narrators, who were selected with regard to age, gender balance and geographical aspect. The thesis consists of three chapters, first is described the sociable situation in the second half of the 19th and in the first half of the 20th century, both the Czech and Jewish population. In the next part of the thesis are used oral historical methods of research, analysis and interpretation of interviews. The analytical part serves to find an answer to the research question of how nationalism or Zionism was manifesting itself in liberal associations.

Stanovení pracovního rozsahu a účinnosti vodního trkače / Determination of the working range and efficiency of the water hammer pump

Růžička, Jakub January 2019 (has links)
This thesis focuses on setting the range and efficiency of a water ram pump through experimental measurements in a laboratory. The measurements were carried out on three different constructions of water ram pump, each of the designed and assembled by the author of this thesis himself, to find out whether the weight on the pulsating valve has an influence on the water ram pump efficiency. Further on this thesis aims at the comparison of up to now methods of water transport arrangement used at a summer camp and the usage of the water ram pump and its advantages. The principal of water ram pump originates in hydraulic impact that is being precisely described in a great detail as well. On of the chapters even includes the placement manual for the water ram pump and its overall assembly and connexion. Because the presence of floating debris is inevitable, this thesis also deals with the possibility to solve the incoming water impurities by adding an inflow gating to prevent such problem. This inflow gating has only been designed in a Flow 3D programme to introduce the idea and functions.

Fenomén skautingu z filosofické perspektivy / The Phenomenon of Scouting from Philosphical Perspective

Horáčková, Nikol January 2018 (has links)
The presented historical-philosophical diploma thesis depicts the scouting phenomenon, which demands a specific type of morality and produces specific individuality. We interpret a scout human through the following themes: the personˈs relation to nature and to God. We will demonstrate that contact with nature is closely related to the demand placed on versatile personality development in the sense of the Ancient Greek term kalokagathia. Using the writings of J. J. Rousseau, E. T. Seton and H. Thoreau, we will focus on an idealized form of the return to nature. We will further delve into scoutsˈ attitudes towards the first Scouting principle: Duty to God. Last, but not least, we will demonstrate that only mature consciences establish free and responsible action. This action is, however, conditioned by a dialogue with a higher force. A scout human is therefore defined by both; their specific attitude to nature and their acknowledgement of spiritual life. Only a life in harmony with those two constants leads scouts towards meaningful humanity.

United States Army Scouts: the Southwestern Experience, 1886-1890

Nance, Carol Conley 05 1900 (has links)
In the post-Civil War Southwest, the United States Army utilized civilians and Indians as scouts. As the mainstay of the reconnaissance force, enlisted Indians excelled as trackers, guides, and fighters. General George Crook became the foremost advocate of this service. A little-known aspect of the era was the international controversy created by the activities of native trackers under the 1882 reciprocal hot pursuit agreement between Mexico and the United States. Providing valuable information on Army scouts are numerous government records which include the Annual Report of the Secretary of War from 1866 to 1896 and Foreign Relations of the United States for 1883 and 1886. Memoirs, biographies, and articles in regional and national historical journals supplement government documents.

Its objective is to identify in the relations between the lagunense Scouting activity and the local mechanisms of cultural movement a symbolic construction of nationalist character, which configured specific social models and directed a partial appropriation of Scouting. To substantiate this bond, the photos and the sundry speeches referring to its participation in parades and public events in that city, mainly the journalistic registers, are important means of reflection and criticism. Other aspects of its actuation are also related to those nationalist representations. There is, in the signaled period, a certain tune between the Scouting deployment in Laguna and the framework itself, lived by the Brazilian education then, inside and outside the school walls, in the sense that this badenian segment also experienced the directions of a civic-patriotic outlook, although in a civil and private condition, without, therefore, a governmental bond / Filiando-se a autores da historiografia cultural, este projeto oferece uma análise do fenômeno extra-escolar em Laguna - SC.

Začleňování dětí se specifickými sociálními a vzdělávacími potřebami do skautských oddílů / The Inclusion of Childern with Specific Social and Educational Needs to Scout Units

Všianská, Anežka January 2017 (has links)
(in English) The Master's thesis "Inclusion of Children with Specific Social and Educational Needs to Scout Units" focuses on the integration of children with special needs into the specific environment of the Czech-scouting organisation Junák. It comprises of a theoretical and an empirical part. The first one describes basic theoretical concepts of children integration and inclusion and summarises the current situation in the Junák organisation. The empirical part presents a research, which unlike previous works describes the process of integration from the perspective of three key subject groups: children with specific needs, their parents or foster parents and Scout leaders. The data has been gathered by the means of semistructured interviews, question forms and on-site observation. The aim was to identify how the integration process works and to gather the opinion of individuals representing the three target groups about the factors influencing the process of integration in Scout units. This thesis presents several aspects considered as key by each of the subject group. From the children perspective, a successful integration depends on their ability to find friends among the other members of the units. For their parents and the units' leaders, communication and active cooperation between all...
