Mellan säkerhet och mänskliga rättigheter : en studie av den svenska officiella migrationsdiskursen / Between security and human rights : a study of the Swedish official migration discourse

Jacobson, Åsa January 2005 (has links)
<p>This paper focuses on the Swedish migration discourse and investigates if and to what extent it is dominated by a security perspective. Analysing a number of official texts and documents I want to show how the discourse describes migrants and what implications this carries with it for the migrants and for the Swedish migration politics. Through discourse analysis I have analysed whose security that is prioritised, the Swedish or the refugees, who is the refugee and the asylum seeker, and who is the illegal migrant in the Swedish official migration discourse. As a theoretical frame for the analysis I have used theories on migration and security. These include theories on the securitisation of politics, the globalisation and the creation of political identity from the nation state perspective and theories on the connection between migration and security.</p><p>My results show that a security discourse is dominating the Swedish official migration discourse and is therefore defining our reality and the identities of refugees, asylum seekers and illegal migrants. Migration is in this discourse seen from a national security perspective where migrants in different ways are perceived as threats to Sweden. The perhaps main and most surprising find is the way that the migrants are described as part of the reason why generous refugee politics are not possible, and also indirectly why the public support of the right to seek asylum should decrease.</p><p>I have found that several of the theories on migration and security are important to be able to understand and analyse the Swedish official migration discourse.</p>

Vägledning inom arbetsförmedlingen

Skogholm, Elin, Sigmarsdóttir, Selma January 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine guidance activities in an employment office and to explain the significance these activities have for the job seekers' way towards an occupation. The method used was literature studies and qualitative interviews with respondents in three categories: a manager, two workingmediators and three job seekers, all at the same employment service office. The results that emerged was that there are different kinds of guidance in the employment service, both in the narrow sense and broad sense. The different categories of respondents describe and define the guidance activities in different ways and have different descriptions of how these activities can help job seekers into employment. The conclusions drawn where that the manager sees everything on the employment service as guidance, workingmediators differ in their roles as advisers and counselors. The job seekers does not see the activities they had access to as guidance. The employees at the employment office considers that the guidance are more helpful in the process towards finding an occupation than job seekers think.

Modelling of gyro in an IR seeker for real-time simulation / Modellering av gyro i en IR-målsökare för realtidssimulering

Nordman, Thomas January 2004 (has links)
The target tracking system of an IR (InfraRed) guided missile is constantly subjected to disturbances due to the linear and angular motion of the missile. To diminish these LOS (Line Of Sight) disturbances the seeker of the missile can be built from a free gyroscope mounted in a very low friction suspension. The ability of the spinning gyroscope to maintain its direction relative to an inertial frame is used to stabilize the seeker LOS while tracking a target. The tracking velocity of the seeker, i.e. its angular velocity, is controlled by a feedback control unit where the signal from the IR detector is used as input. The electrical driven actuator consists of a set of coils and a magnet on the gyroscope. The purpose of this thesis is to develop a real-time model of the seeker gyroscope in an existing IR MANPAD (MAN Portable Air Defense) missile. The aim is a model that is able to simulate the real system with consideration to the tracking velocity. The model should also be integrated into a hybrid simulator environment. With relatively good knowledge of the system and its subsystems an initial physical modelling approach was used where elementary equations and accepted relations were assembled to describe the mechanism of the subsystems. This formed the framework of the model and gave a good foundation for further modelling. By using experimentation and more detailed system knowledge the initial approach could be developed and modified. Necessary approximations were made and unknown parameters were determined through system identification methods. The model was implemented in MATLAB Simulink. To make it suitable for real-time operation Real-Time Workshop was used. The model design was evaluated in simulations where the tracking performance could be tested for different positions of the gyroscope. The results where satisfying and showed that the model was able to reproduce the output of the system well considering the speed of the model and the approximations made. One important reason that good results can be achieved with a relatively simple model is that the seeker is limited to small rotations. The model can be tuned to operate in a smaller range and the complexity can be kept low. A weakness of the model is that the output error increases for wide angles.

"It's a very thick closet!" : En kvalitativ studie om asylsökande hbt-personers erfarenheter av att uttrycka sin sexuella identitet eller könsidentitet / "It's a very thick closet!" : A qualitative study of LGBT asylum-seekers experiences of expressing their sexual identity or gender identity

Magnusson, Cecilia, Samuelsson, Frida January 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to highlight LGBT asylum-seekers experiences of expressing their sexual identity or gender identity in the country of origin and in the asylum process in Sweden. By interviewing people who got permanent residence in Sweden because of gender or sexual orientation in Utlänningslagen (2005:716) we have been able to explore their own experiences from expressing themselves. This study analyse these experiences from a social psychological perspective, from this analysis we aimed to obtain a deeper understanding of how the experiences from the country of origin affects on the experiences in the asylum process. This study shows that LGBT asylum-seekers often is facing negative reactions from the environment in the country of origin, these reactions can limit their possibilities to express their sexual identity or gender identity in the asylum process in Sweden. The negative reactions they experience in the country of origin have contributed to that many LGBT people internalize feelings of fear to express themselves, feelings that often stays when they come to Sweden to seek asylum. We hope that this study will contribute to a better treatment and reception from social workers and other professionals who meet these people in their work, by increased knowledge of the conditions under which LGBT people are coming to seek asylum in Sweden.

Autopilot And Guidance Algorithms For Infrared Guided Missiles

Kilic, Kayhan Caglar 01 December 2006 (has links) (PDF)
Guided missiles are among the most effective threats against air platforms. Aircraft and helicopter losses in the last decades were mostly due to guided missiles, 70% of which were infrared guided missiles. Today, there are as many as 500,000 shoulder-fired missiles in military arsenals around the world, whose guidance algorithms enable them to track the desired trajectories very precisely. In this thesis, main focus is on defining infrared missile guidance and control algorithms in order to study on various target-missile scenarios for the effectiveness of these algorithms. First, a mathematical model of a generic missile is given. Then the flight control system of the missile is created by using LQR and PID controllers. Different kinds of PNG algorithms applied to an infrared missile are presented. The seeker part of the infrared missile is also discussed. The effectiveness of guidance algorithms are studied based on different target &ndash / missile scenarios and the responses of them to IR countermeasures are also observed. This study shows that different guidance algorithms can be used for different scenarios. If suitable algorithms are combined and suitable constants are applied, the guided missile can track the target very precisely. In addition, the seeker part has to be improved with tracking algorithms in order to recognize IR-countermeasures and not to follow them.

Contrasting Policies And Experiences Of Asylum Seekers In Turkey

Manap-kirmizigul, Cigdem 01 December 2008 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of this thesis is to describe the asylum seekers that reside in Turkey temporarily, from their own standpoint and from the viewpoint of workers and representatives working in the agencies and institutes involved in the field. This work focuses on the inconveniences experienced by asylum seekers and refugees during their stay in Turkey and the reasons of these inconveniences, in the context of social exclusion. The research for this thesis is based on the analysis of the in-depth interviews that were done with the asylum seekers, representatives and workers in UNHCR, government and in several NGOs. Relevant report by the UNHCR, and the scholarly literatures on migration and asylum and on transit migration and asylum seeking through Turkey was examined. The results of the study can be sorted as follows: Firstly, there is an increasing and visible reluctance to accept refugees in the world. Secondly, it is seen that Turkey does not have an effective asylum policy and legal arrangements on this issue. Thirdly, not only the asylum seekers but also the officers who are dealing with them face some problems. Lastly, it had been observed during the interviews asylum seekers are being excluded different ways during the period of living in Turkey.

Refugeeship - A project of justification : Claiming asylum in England and Sweden

Magnusson, Nicola January 2011 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to explore the asylum process from an experiential perspective, starting in the country of origin, fleeing, claiming asylum and being granted refugee status. The theoretical interest is to contribute with an understanding of how this asylum process impacts on personal meaning-making, focusing on identification and positioning work of the person forced to flee and make an asylum claim. With this purpose in mind, I have remained close to the experiences of the participants talk made visible through interpretative analysis.   Drawing on a discursive-psychological approach, 19 interview-cases (10 in England and 9 in Sweden) have been analysed consisting of stories of the migration process: life in the country of origin, fleeing, claiming asylum and being granted refugee status. This talk includes rich description of what this has involved for these participants, in terms of the more existential aspects of this kind of migration, identification and positioning, as well as their attempts to give this process some sort of meaning. This I name refugeeship.   The results show that refugeeship is characterised by a multitude of implicit and explicit questionings concerning the refugee’s rights and duties. Implicit questions concerning the refugee’s flight, starting in the country of origin are followed by explicit questions when encountering the official legal system of asylum in the new country, which involves an erosion of sense of self. The refugee stories express what I call the moral career of refugeeship, illustrating the events in refugeeship which are ongoing, though changeable over time and space and incorporate a moral dimension. The refugee finds him or herself continuously justifying the migration, struggling for recognition and convincing ‘Others’ that one can in fact become a contributing member of  the new society.

Bore sight error analysis in seeker antennas : a fully functional GUI interfaced ray tracing solution

Barnard, Daniel David 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MScEng)--Stellenbosch University, 2013. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Airborne seeker antennas are usually enclosed within a dielectric radome for protection against their harsh operational environment. However the presence of a radome can introduce serious degrading effects on the radiation and electrical performance of the enclosed antenna. The degradation effect studied in this report is that of Bore Sight Error (BSE). BSE is a squint in the pointing accuracy of the antenna due to the enclosing radome. A ray-tracing approach is presented that is able to analyse the BSE of seeker radomes in general and is especially suited to electrically large radomes where other computational electromagnetic techniques become overly computationally intensive. The ray-tracing algorithm is wrapped in a GUI which, given the radome, antenna, polarisation and incidence plane parameters will compute the BSE for any set of requested scan angles. Close agreement was obtained with measured BSE performance available in literature. Due to easy setup and fast computation time it is demonstrated that the GUI can be efficiently used for iterative radome design and optimisation. / AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Luggedrae soekantennes is normaalweg omhul binne ‘n dielektriese antennekoepel vir beskerming teen ‘n strawwe omgewing.
