Previous issue date: 2013-02-20 / The novels The Gospel According to Jesus Christ by José Saramago and The Gospel of Barrabas by Jose Roberto Torero and Marcus Aurelius Pimenta dialogue with the biblical text as a parody of the canonical gospels. The present study aims at analyzing the characters Mary of Magdala and Mary Magdalene, respectively, in order to check how close they are and at the same time how different they are from the figure of Magdalene from the Holy Bible as well as what differences and similarities exist between them. In order to achieve this objective, this study considers the studies of Comparative Literature, more precisely, Bakhtin s Dialogic Theory. Moreover, it enters into issues of multiple identities and gender in order to verify in what sense male and female coexist and complement each other and how the displacement of identities helps to construct the subject, regarding the self-consciousness which the characters give to one another through the contact with the other.

Kraftens biologi : En läsning av Hegels ”Kraft och förstånd” utifrån Leibniz organiska världsbildTham, Wilhelm January 2018 (has links)
This work seeks to trace the influence of G.W. Leibniz on G.W.F. Hegel and the chapter called ‘Force and the Understanding’ in his Phänomenologie des Geistes. Using Leibniz’s theory of forces developed in texts such as Specimen Dynamicum, in which Leibniz argues against the Cartesians in favour of a ‘dynamic’ view on substances, it is here argued that the notion of biological life is of crucial importance for understanding Hegel’s transition from Consciousness to Self-Consciousness at the end of ‘Force and the Understanding’. For Leibniz, force is posited as that which gives unity to the monad, and this by functioning as their inner source of activity. This infusion of activity into the monad gives rise both to the physical world of bodies, as well as to the mental world of consciousnesses. Leibniz also sees force in direct analogy with biological life, as they share one characteristic feature, namely the capacity for ‘perception’ and ‘desire’. Consequently, organic life is for Leibniz what is most real in the world, uniting all bodies with a conscious soul. This move, I argue, is essential for understanding Hegel in ‘Force and the Understanding. More specifically, when Hegel’s consciousness discovers that, through the dialectic of force and law, organic life has become its new object, it also realizes that its faculty of the Understanding [Verstand] is related to its very own biological nature. The outer world of appearance, consciousness realizes, is thereby intimately connected to the inner of things, the so called supersensible world. Hegel thus regards consciousness of biological life as a sort of bridge that unites the Understanding with the concept, or rather, unites internal thinking with the outside world. This gives rise to Consciousness’ awareness of its own thinking, which is equivalent to it becoming a Self-consciousness.

The relationship between body mass and self concept among adolescent female university studentsBodiba, Prudence Mafowane Wilheminah January 2006 (has links)
Thesis (M.A. (Clinical Psychology)) --University of Limpopo, 2006 / The purpose of the research study is to investigate the relationship between body mass and self-concept among adolescent female university students.
First year female students from three different Schools and Faculties at the University of Limpopo, Turfloop Campus participated in the study. They were 75 in number. The study has both a quantitative and qualitative aspects. The qualitative was used to complement the quantitative aspect. The Rosenberg Self-esteem Measure was used to measure self-esteem. For the qualitative aspect, a topic guide was used for the focus group discussion prepared and used for the focus group discussion. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and the Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation were used to analyse the quantitative data.
Results show that there is a relationship between body mass and self-concept and that overweight participants tend to have a low self-esteem. This low self-esteem was perceived to be aggravated by a number of factors like the attitude of the media and the society. Participants who are overweight also indicated that they are limited in certain areas of their lives (e.g., sports) as a result of their body mass. They expressed mixed feelings and frustration when it comes to such areas of like.
Support groups, life-skills programmes and psychotherapy should be made available and attainable for overweight female adolescents.

The Theories of DeindividuationLi, Brian 01 January 2010 (has links)
Has it ever occurred to you to wonder why a soldier would sacrifice his life by jumping on a bomb to save the rest of his brigade? Or why an individual in a gang might display respectable behavior when alone but swear and vandalize when in the group? The phenomenon of people getting pulled into crowds and adopting the group’s mentalities and behaviors has been recognized but not fully researched. However, it has been recorded in early literature and research that it is human nature to want to fit into a group, for example in Abraham Maslow’s (1943) paper, A Theory of Human Motivation, in which he proposed that the hierarchy of human needs includes a stage that emphasized an individual’s need to feel a sense of belonging.

Self-Concept Scale:2, TSCS:2, Fitts & Warren, 1996).

The main analysed areas are the use of language, approach to the language use, and ethnic and dialectal self-consciousness. We have described the phonetic features characteristic of the sub-dialects from the records and transcribed cohesive texts of the sub-dialects. 28 informants of different generations: younger, middle, senior were interviewed and recorded. The research showed that the dialectal language prevailed in communication with family, friends, neighbours, animals, as well as when thinking, counting. The Lithuanian standard language is perceived as more appropriate for speaking in the media and for the written language. Both speech versions are proper for singing.
