“Getting Freaky”: Perversion and Promiscuity Within Alternative Relationships and Sexual Modalities Among People Of Color

Stewart, Marla R 02 July 2013 (has links)
This paper explores how people of color, particularly black people in the Atlanta area, navigate inside and outside of their sexual communities – particularly, BDSM, polyamory and swinging communities. I investigated how participants’ (N=11) identity construction and sexual actions/behaviors contributed to the benefits and/or consequences that fostered the navigation of non-sexual and sexual communities using queer theory and intersectionality theory with a womanist approach. Particularly, I found that my participants migrated towards communities based on privilege, comfort, and acts of resistance. In addition, I found that while they all identified as “perverts of color,” they did not identify as “promiscuous.” Overall, this study highlights the potential for people to resist certain oppressions, all while maintaining a sex-positive politic inside and outside of their alternative sexual communities. It also emphasizes the need to broaden our scopes on sexual liberation movements that marginalize those with various intersections of identities.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Gisele Bischoff Gellacic.pdf: 10410498 bytes, checksum: b8a16556bcd61ba9b6a1352fe4874e4d (MD5) Previous issue date: 2014-03-19 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This thesis aims to analyze some historical aspects of the construction of the female body, which occurred among the movements of sexual liberation between 1961 and 1985 in Brazil. The "Claudia" and "Nova" magazines are used in order to observe the new spaces that female sexuality could occupy starting from these movements, as well as the new meanings that the female body has had after liberation trends . Throughout these important journals, the ways in which the liberation of the bodies and sexuality were instigated to the readers are explored, as well as all the difficulties due to the current censorship during almost the entire given period. The path of liberation that appears in magazines depicts the breakdown of major paradigms about sex and the female body, while others paradigms stayed. These changes mostly concern the redefinition of emotions and feelings attached to the feminine, like love, pleasure, relationships between men and women, virginity, seduction and sexuality. Finally, it is intended to consider whether such changes have brought, in fact, new horizons of freedom for women / Esta tese tem como fio condutor uma análise de alguns aspectos históricos da construção do corpo feminino ocorridos em meio aos movimentos de liberação sexual entre 1961 e 1985 no Brasil.

The parable of the black sheep or the virtue of being catholic in spite of church

Sánchez López, Saúl 24 November 2017 (has links)
The present research is about different catholic organizations in favor of sexual liberation: catholic organizations for sexual diversity, catholic organizations for reproductive rights, catholic organizations for gender equality and catholic organizations for married priests. Members of these groups profess Catholicism but contest Church's position concerning homosexuality, abortion, female ordination and celibacy. So the next question arises: how is it that these groups affirm themselves as Catholics and at the same time in disagreement with the Church? Through a critical thought, their justification is analyzed, their legitimacy discussed, and their significance and implications for both Catholicism and Christianism are theorized.

EXPANDED CHOREOGRAPHY : Shifting the agency of movement in The Artificial Nature Project and 69 positions

Invartsen, Mette January 2016 (has links)
Through two books and a series of video documentations of live performances Mette Ingvartsen makes choreography into a territory of physical, artistic and social experimentation. The Artificial Nature Series focusses on how relations between human and non-human agency can be explored and reconfigured through choreography. By investigating and creating a ‘nonhuman theater’ questions regarding material agency, ecology, natural disasters, the Anthropocene and non-subjective performativity are posed. The resulting reflections are closely related to the poetic principles utilized to create the performances, while also drawing connections to territories outside theater. By contrast, 69 positions inscribes itself into a history of human performance with afocus on nudity, sexuality and how the body historically has been a site for political struggles. By creating a guided tour through sexual performances – from the naked protest actions of the 1960’s, through an archive ofpersonal performances into a reflection on contemporary sexual practice – this solo work rethinks audience participation and proposes a notion of soft and social choreography. The contrasting performative strategiesarticulate a twofold notion of expanded choreography: on the one hand movement is extended beyond the human body by including the agency of nonhuman performers, and on the other hand, movement is expanded into animaginary and virtual space thanks to ‘language choreography’. /
LINKS

https://vimeo.com/164552586

https://vimeo.com/164558381
