Integritetsproblem vid användning av Smart TV : Uppfattningar och möjliga skyddsåtgärder ur ett svenskt perspektiv / Integrity issues using Smart-TVs : Opinions and possible security measures from a Swedish perspective

Frisk, Mattias, Çakır, Joshua January 2021 (has links)
Collection and storage of personal data takes place constantly in today's society. This study aims to investigate Swedish respondents' perceptions of privacy issues and possible measures when using a Smart TV. A gap in the literature exists because previous studies in the field are lacking in Sweden when it comes to Smart TV devices which this study explores.  Through a survey via social media, Swedish respondents have been able to indicate which form of collection and storage of personal data during use of Smart TV is considered unacceptable. Privacy policies for Smart TV devices are rarely read by the study's respondents. The results also show that Swedish respondents are willing to remove voice and camera functionality to protect their personal data. Furthermore, results have been comparable with previous studies from other countries.  Recommendations and suggestions are given based on the study results regarding how the collection and storage of personal data can be reduced and how privacy policies may need to be rewritten for users to be willing to read them before accepting any form of data collection when installing a Smart TV. The study shows that more extensive studies are needed to explore the area with the help of resources such as paid registers for better selection of respondents and more in-depth analysis work.

Use of a Smart TV as a Platform for Social Engagement for Senior Citizens

Dika, Elona January 2015 (has links)
The number of studies investigating computer use or other technologies used by senior citizens has progressively increased in the last twenty years. The interest stems from a diverse range of research disciplines including human computer interaction, education, and many others. However, this group of people is less likely to use technology compared to younger groups. Senior citizens generally have a positive attitude towards technology, and they are willing to use the product if they need it. Positive attitudes are also more likely to be expressed towards devices used every day at home, such as the television, microwave etc. Even if those devices are now typically digital, senior citizens are familiar and comfortable with them. A common reason for not wanting to learn different technologies was the feeling that it may be too difficult for them or not having access to a computer or tablet. These characteristics drive us to offer a solution by rethinking the use of some existing technologies and making them more affordable and accessible to older people. It is offered on a TV, something that senior citizens are familiar and comfortable with and which most of them have it at home. As the first step, we identified different requirements and factors that affect senior citizens' daily lives, the things that they do most during the day. Based on these requirements, we had to find services that will fulfill them. The system is constructed from four major services such as video conferencing, news, books and different recreation videos (e.g.: tips about exercise, hunting, cooking or gardening.) Each one of these sections is identified by a review of previous research using a literature survey. These services were chosen, among others, for their effects on senior citizens' quality of life. Thus, our goal was to provide them with an adequate set of required services. The working environment (Smart TV) is based on the different reasons stated below in the research. Some of them are a) a Smart TV is an integrated system which offers features of both a traditional TV and a personal computer, b) it provides a large screen, is easy to use and always ready, and most importantly, c) the TV, the most-user friendly electronic device, is a basic activity of senior citizens in their daily life. Design perspectives and functional requirements are presented. Finally, we describe some scenarios and assessment methods of the proposed system with the target group (senior citizens). Based on the findings, we can conclude that there was great acceptance from senior citizens for the support of daily living and the ability to control their daily activities provided by this service.

Sécurité des équipements grand public connectés à Internet : évaluation des liens de communication / Security of consumer devices connected to the Internet : communication channel evaluation

Bachy, Yann 09 July 2015 (has links)
Today, equipment embedding software and an Internet connection are more and more numerous and various. With the emergence of “the internet of things” and the trend to interconnect everything, many equipment used in our every day life are now connected to the internet: Smart-Tvs, DVD players, alarm and home automation systems, and even health assistance home devices, for example. Unfortunately, these technological evolutions also introduce new security threats. The massive use of internet facilitates the propagation of malware, capable of targeting any computer device, and more specifically any internet connected device. Although several methods allowing security analysis of industrial systems exist, their application to home devices is still limited. The existence and the criticality of potential vulnerabilities in these devices are not well-known, because they have not been thoroughly studied. This is precisely the objective of this thesis, which presents a method allowing to carry out a vulnerability analysis of internet connected home devices. This method is composed of two main phases: a risk analysis phasefollowed by an experimental phase. The security analysis of any type of equipement, requires a good knowledge ofits environment. In order to guide the evaluator in this task, we propose, as a first step, to rely on existing risk analysis methods. These methods are now mature, and allow the evaluator to obtain a global view of the risks incurred by the usage of anequipment. Then, during the second step of our method, the evaluator concentrates on the most important risks in order to demonstrate the technical feasibility of the scenarios leading to the considered risks, by carrying out several experiments.Considering the large amount and the diversity of I/Os on connected devices, it is important to focus on specifically rich attack scenarios, possibly depending on a simple local vulnerability. For this second step, an experimental method is proposedin order to study these attack scenarios, which, moreover, target equipement whose specifications are not necessarily available. In order to illustrate the entire method, this thesis presents two case studies: Integrated Access Devices and Smart-Tvs. These studies are carried out on a panel of devices from major internet service providers and TV manufacturers, allowing us to compare several devices available on the market. The vulnerabilities pointed out, mainly concern the communication means (local loop for the IAD, DVB-T interface for the smart-TVs) connecting these devices to their service providers (ISP for the IAD, TV and VoD for the smart-TVs). These communication links are usually considered safe, and have been, to our knowledge, seldom explored. Thisthesis thereby contributes to the security analysis of these particular communication means for connected devices and points out some original attack paths. Finally, this thesis ends by presenting different existing security mechanisms that can be used to avoid exploitation of the identified weaknesses

App portability with smart devices : A case study from iOS to tvOS

Kylén Rönnqvist, Linnea January 2016 (has links)

Development of a framework for creating cross-platform TV HTML5 applications

Eilert, Rickard January 2015 (has links)
When developing HTML5 applications for TV platforms, the TV platforms provide, in addition to standardHTML5 functionality, also extra APIs for TV-specific features. These extra APIs differ between TVplatforms, and that is a problem when developing an application targeting several platforms. This thesis hasexamined if it is possible to design a framework which provides the developer with one API that works formany platforms by wrapping their platform-specific code. The answer is yes. With success, platform-specificfeatures including: TV remote control input, video, volume, Internet connection status, TV channel streamsand EPG data have been harmonised under an API in a JavaScript library. Furthermore, a build systempackages the code in the way the platforms expect. The framework eases the development of TV platformHTML5 applications. At the moment, the framework supports the Pace, PC and Samsung Smart TVplatforms, but it can be extended with more TV platform back-ends.

A state of the art media box

Labiausse, Pierre January 2013 (has links)
Today media centers are often cluttered with multiple devices each controlled by their own remote control. It is often hard and/or painful to manage and utilize these devices, especially for inexperienced users. Simstream wants to build an innovative smart-TV that as much as possible centralizes functions and controls.  Operating the system should be intuitive and simple, yet experienced users should have access to more advanced operations. This requires acquiring several inputs as well as integrating the communication devices that are necessary to control the attached external devices. Whenever possible, we want to efficiently process every input while minimizing latencies.  As a result, we want all the frequent operation to be as quick and lightweight as possible in order to provide a high quality user experience even under high system loads. This project takes advantage of the widespread availability of touchscreen mobile devices in order to provide an innovative means of control over the television, with remote control mobile applications running on an user’s familiar device. A remote controller will also be sold together with the television, and this remote controller will also have a touchscreen, and will propose the same capabilities as the remote control mobile applications. Finally, this platform will be open to third-party applications, and as a result this thesis project developed a software development kit which is designed to be easy and familiar enough for developers to adopt it and create applications with it. Applications will be developed together with an interface displayed on the remote controllers, in order to tailor the remote control interface to what is currently displayed on the television screen / Idag är mediecentrer ofta belamrade med många enheter som är kontrollerade av sina egna fjärrkontroller.
