Drivers' Speed and Attention in Alternative Designs of an IntersectionKronqvist, Linda January 2005 (has links)
The Road Administration wants to improve safety at a hazardous, rural road intersection near Åkersberga, Stockholm by changing the design of the intersection. The intersection today is a three-way connection with a small road connecting to a four-lane main road, much similar to a motorway with high speeds although with a speed limit of 90km/h. Drivers’ attention and velocity in different designs of the intersection are analysed in this thesis with data from two experiments, ordered by the Road Administration and conducted by the Swedish National Road and Research Institute (VTI). Four alternative designs of the intersection were tested using the VTI-simulator; a narrowing from two to one lane through the intersection, rumble strips, a wooden fence and trees at the road side, and a portal framing the intersection. In addition, the original intersection design, both with and without speed limit signs of 70km/h, were tested for comparisons. In the first of the two experiments, the four alternative intersection designs all had speed limit signs of 70km/h, and in the second experiment the alternative intersection designs were tested without the influence of the speed limit signs of 70km/h. Data used in the analyses are velocity data, lateral position, eye movements, brake data and subjective estimations. Subjects were found to look at the critical areas of the intersection in time, independent of intersection design. Only small differences between the intersection designs were found, probably due to width of the main road being a larger design-influence than the measures tested. The results are in favour of the narrowing from two to one lane through the intersection, but traffic density and rhythm make a narrowing difficult to realise at the real intersection. Instead, rumble strips in addition to a speed limit of 70km/h can be recommended, although rumble strips are most likely to increase inattentive drivers’ readiness.

Avaliação de retorno elástico para processos de estampagem à frio dos aços bifásicos DP 600 e DP 800Zanluchi, Jeferson Jorge Dallagnol January 2014 (has links)
Este trabalho procura avaliar o retorno elástico em aços avançados de alta resistência utilizados em processo de dobramento. Para isso, foram usadas chapas de aço bifásico DP 600 e DP 800, ambas revestidas. Foram empregados dois métodos de medição a fim de abordar e avaliar o retorno elástico. O primeiro método abordado foi à conformação de tiras em U e o segundo método foi à realização do ensaio Dobramento Sob Tensão, aos quais possibilitaram a coleta de dados para aplicação em cálculo de coeficiente de atrito no processo de dobramento. Em ambas as avaliações foram utilizadas duas diferentes condições de lubrificação para o processo de dobramento, visando variar a condição de atrito no processo. A primeira foi à aplicação de um lubrificante em forma de pasta, de nome comercial Clarus Desmoldax DCP 35 e a segunda foi à aplicação em forma líquida, denominado Clarus Desmoldax DCP 35X. Para analisar o retorno elástico, foram utilizadas como critério de avaliação as medições de abertura da parede da tira conformada, permitindo desta forma considerar o atrito por intermédio da variação do tipo lubrificante. As análises realizadas nos corpos de prova conformados em formato U evidenciaram um retorno elástico menor para as amostras do aço DP 600, se comparadas com as amostras do aço DP 800. Não existiu relevância na variação dos lubrificantes quanto ao retorno elástico nas amostras de um mesmo tipo de aço. As análises realizadas nos corpos de prova submetidos ao ensaio de dobramento sob tensão, também evidenciaram um retorno elástico menor para as amostras do aço DP 600 se comparadas com as amostras do aço DP 800. Comparando as amostras com base nos dados coletados e aplicados ao cálculo de coeficiente de atrito, percebeu-se que as amostras que tiveram um retorno elástico menor, também possuíam coeficientes de atrito menor, constatando assim que quanto menor o coeficiente de atrito, menor é o retorno elástico. / This piece of work seeks to evaluate the springback effect on advanced high strength steel used in the bending process. For this, biphasic steel plates DP 600 and DP 800, both coated, were used. Two methods of measurement were used to approach and asses the springback effect. The first method approached was the conformation of strips in U and the second method was the preformance of the Bending Under Tension test, which enabled the data collect for the application in calculation of the friction coefficient in the bending process. In both assessments two different lubricant conditions for the bending process were used with the aim of varying the condition of friction in the process. The first one was the application of a paste lubricant, with the brand name Clarus Desmoldax DCP 35 and the second one was the application of a liquid lubricant, called Clarus Desmoldax DCP 35X. To analyze the springback effect the measurements of the opening of the wall of the conformed strip were used, thus allowing to consider the friction through the variation of the type of lubricant. The assessments carried out in the specimens in U shape showed a smaller springback effect for the steel samples DP 600 in comparison with the DP 800 ones. There was no relevance in the range of lubricants as the springback effect in the samples of the same type of steel. The analyzes carried out in the specimens subjected to bending under pressure test also showed a smaller springback effect for the steel samples DP 600 compared with the DP 800 ones. Comparing the samples based on the data collected and applied to the calculation of the friction coefficient, it was noticed that the samples that had a smaller springback effect also had lower friction coefficients, therefore verifying that the lower the friction coefficient is, the lower the springback effect.

This work consists of a discursive approach to comics Monica´s Team. In these magazines, we
analyze the effect of the speeches sense, since these stories have as ideal partners to child and
young. Towards this analysis, we try to listen to both places that the author / narrator as characters / enunciators speak; by which discursive formations (DFs), which for ideological training (IT) are included. We still observed polyphonic discourse of comics, considering the relationship of the subject (author / speaker) with the characters / enunciators, interspeech, discursive memory, forgetfulness of paragraph 1 and 2, and the consequent production of meaning (FOUCAULT, 1997a, 1997b, 2003, 2009;ORLANDI, 2005; PÊCHEUX, 1997; MUSSALIN, 2001; BRANDÃO, 1997). This study, then, is included to Discourse Analysis (DA). In addition to this area of knowledge, we use the theories of speech genres, the historical course of Comics. With the first, we examine the different levels of complexity that the genre present in Bakhtin (2002); the incentive of new technologies for the emergence of new genres, in turn, is discussed based on Marcuschi (2002); yet the light of the theories of this author, we study the complexity of the categorization of comics. From the theoretical
postulates of Will Eisner (1995), of Luyten (1993), we discus about the emergence of comics, their passage through world. We study the creation of the first comic strip by artist Richard Outcault, appropriate changes in the rearing process to narrate these stories. We investigate the route of creating comics in Brazil, the contribution of Brazilian artists in the local process adaptation. Therefore, seek the most significant productions of comic Maurício de Sousa, his relation with the Brazilian industry. Regarding the methodology, this research shows how qualitative, from which we analyze the speeches of comics in circulation, considering the processes by discursivization steeped in / on the main characters / enunciators: Monica, Magali, Cebolinha and Cascão. With these analyzes we found that the author / speaker sets, mainly from the DF School, appropriating the discourses that institution, reiterating them, hence the character of productivity in these speeches comics. Consequently, corroborate the crystallization of discourses circulating within the school institution. / O presente trabalho consiste em uma abordagem discursiva das histórias em quadrinhos da Turma da Mônica. Nessas revistas, buscamos analisar os discursos como efeito de sentido, uma vez que essas histórias têm como interlocutores ideais a criança e o jovem. Com vistas a essa análise, tentamos ouvir de que lugares tanto o autor/locutor como personagens/enunciadores falam; por quais formações discursivas (FDs), por qual formação ideológica (FI) são interpelados. Observamos ainda o discurso polifônico das HQs, considerando a relação do sujeito (autor/locutor) com os personagens/enunciadores, o interdiscurso, a memória discursiva, os esquecimentos de nº 1 e 2, e a consequente produção de sentido (FOUCAULT, 1997a, 1997b, 2003, 2009; ORLANDI, 2005; PÊCHEUX, 1997; MUSSALIN, 2001; BRANDÃO, 1997). O presente estudo, então, está circunscrito à Análise do Discurso (AD). Além dessa área do conhecimento, utilizamos as teorias de gêneros do
discurso, o percurso histórico das Histórias em Quadrinhos (HQs). Com a primeira, examinamos os diferentes níveis de complexidade que os gêneros apresentam em Bakhtin (2002); o incentivo das novas tecnologias para o surgimento de novos gêneros, por sua vez, é discutido com base em Marcuschi (2002); à luz ainda das teorias deste autor, estudamos a complexidade da categorização das histórias em quadrinhos. A partir dos postulados teóricos de Will Eisner (1995), de Luyten (1993), discorremos acerca do surgimento das HQs, a sua passagem pelo mundo. Estudamos a criação da primeira história em quadrinho pelo artista Richard Outcault, as devidas mudanças ocorridas no processo de criação para narrar essas histórias. Investigamos o percurso da criação das HQs no Brasil, a contribuição de artistas brasileiros no processo de adaptação local. Buscamos, portanto, as mais significativas produções de quadrinhos de Maurício de Sousa, a sua relação com a indústria brasileira.
Quanto à metodologia, esta pesquisa se configura como qualitativa, a partir da qual buscamos
analisar os discursos em circulação das HQs, considerando os processos de discursivização
perpassados pelos/nos principais personagens/enunciadores: Mônica, Magali, Cebolinha e
Cascão. Com essas análises constatamos que o autor/locutor enuncia, principalmente, a partir
da FD da Escola, apropriando-se dos discursos dessa instituição, reiterando-os, daí o caráter
de produtividade dos discursos nessas HQs. Consequentemente, corroboram a cristalização
dos discursos em circulação na instituição escola.

Previous issue date: 2009-02-18 / This research which involves Arts and History of Culture proposes a look back at the 1960 s. The setting is Brazil, politically disturbed and on the verge of a military coup which would depose President João Goulart (1919-1976) and establish a military regime that would rule until late 80 s. In this oppressive context we find Mônica, character of a cartoon series designed by Mauricio de Sousa starting in 1963. The little girl, who would gain international recognition, started as a secondary character in the comic strips featuring Cebolinha, another popular character by Sousa. In a few years Mônica would be taken to the top as Sousa a main character, which led to the gathering of a group of characters under the title of A Turma da Mônica (Mônica s Bunch). This research describes the beginning of Sousa a career and his characters with the purpose of getting acquainted with the first comic strips. Based on the British Cultural Studies, an intellectual movement dedicated to cultural analysis and discussion established after the Frankfurt School, we will demonstrate what is the involvement of selected midia with the context of creation, in order to demonstrate the relations of power between them. Mônica, the main character of this research is a girl who always overcomes conflicts by means of physical power and by such an attitude has always been portraited as violent by critics and readers. In this study we will demonstrate how the character resists to successive attempts from the other characters to convince her to be more feminine . The characteristics attributed to such a gender are fundamental to the discussion that aims at analyzing the cultural construction of male and female roles in the Brazilian society in the 1960 s. / Esta pesquisa que envolve os eixos de Artes e História da Cultura propõe um retorno à década de 1960. O cenário é o Brasil, conturbado politicamente e prestes a sofrer um golpe militar que deporia o presidente João Goulart (1919-1976), estabelecendo um regime militar que perduraria até o final dos anos 80. Neste contexto repressor temos Mônica, personagem de uma série de histórias em quadrinhos desenvolvidas por Mauricio de Sousa a partir de 1963. A garota que atingiria fama e reconhecimento internacional começou como coadjuvante nas pequenas tiras de Cebolinha, outro caractere popular de Mauricio. Em poucos anos Mônica seria elevada ao posto de principal criação de Sousa, fato que permitiu a reunião do elenco de personagens sob o titulo A Turma da Mônica . Nesta pesquisa percorreremos o início da carreira de Sousa e seus personagens a fim de conhecer suas primeiras tiras cômicas. Ao teor dos Estudos Culturais Britânicos, movimento de análise e discussão cultural posterior a Escola de Frankfurt, explicitaremos qual o envolvimento da mídia selecionada com o contexto de criação, afim de explicitar as relações de poder entre as mesmas. Mônica personagem central desta pesquisa é uma garota que sempre vence os conflitos através da força, por tal atitude foi constantemente caracterizada como violenta por críticos e leitores. Nesta pesquisa apresentaremos como a personagem resiste às sucessivas tentativas dos demais caracteres de convencê-la a ser mais feminina . As características atribuídas a tal gênero são imprescindíveis na discussão que objetiva analisar a construção cultural dos papéis feminino e masculino na sociedade brasileira na década de 1960.

Japanese women writers watch a boy being beaten by his father : male homosexual fantasies, female sexuality and desireNagaike, Kazumi 05 1900 (has links)
This thesis discusses narrative texts by Japanese female writers and popular manga
artists* that deal with fantasies of male-male sex. It applies a variety of psychoanalytic
theories (Freudian, Kleinian, feminist and so forth) to demonstrate how fantasies about male
homosexuality may be analyzed in terms of the psychological orientations of the many
Japanese women who are the readers of this narrative genre. I also discuss a variety of
themes that often accompany and appear to support female fantasies of male homosexuality:
the concept of Thomme fatal' in Mori Mari's male homosexual trilogy; sadomasochism in
Kono Taeko's "Toddler-Hunting"; the decadent aestheticism of Okamoto Kanoko's "The
Bygone World'; postmodernism in Matsuura Rieko's The Reverse Version; and the concept of
. pornography as it relates to yaoi manga. * *
In attempting to analyze the discursive aspects of female fantasies of male
homosexuality, I begin with an examination of Sigmund Freud's article, "A Child is Being
Beaten," in which he refers to the female scoptophilic impulse. Several Japanese female
writers—Kono Taeko, in particular—provide clear examples of narratives that parallel
Freud's model of the beating fantasy. This female scoptophilic desire to watch a male
homoerotic 'show' is activated by a psychological orientation such as that defined by Klein's
model of projective identification: female characters and readers project their 'unbalanced
egos' onto male homosexual characters, and this enhances the processes of identification with
and (scoptophilic) dissociation from these characters—which in turn create the possibility of
regaining psychological 'balance.'
One of the main themes of my analysis is the development of subconscious female
desires to access the bisexual (simultaneously masculine and feminine) body. I discuss the
idealization of the shorten (boy) identity (in "Toddler-Hunting" and The Reverse Version) and
the image of the 'reversible couple' in yaoi manga as specific forms of a sexual discourse
that presents possibilities of escape from the arbitrary, socially-constructed, but
institutionalized concepts of the female body.

The present work has as proposal expose the representation of teachers in comic books, introducing the relevant research line studies teacher training: knowledge and skills, graduate program in education of the UFS. For both the analysis turns to the work of Maurício de
Souza, with the character´s comic Chico Bento; and Charles Schulz, with strips of Snoopy and the gang (Peanuts), considering the look of high school students from a school in the public school system in Aracaju (SE) with reference to the contribution of the theory of social
representations. The qualitative research was chosen to exhibit and interpret the relationships recorded in data collection with the use of the fanzine and the questionnaires. The main problem being considered does not seem to be checking whether the current production of
comics strives and/or discusses educational issues in a transparent manner and understandable by anyone who creates and for whom the consumes, since several projects checked already pored over this, but understand if the images themselves that feature teachers in comics may
also allow a legitimate print showing somehow just their representations. For generation and coherent dissemination of this exhibition |graphic-figurative|, the focus is set by probable similarities observed between two sets different compositional elements with regard to
authorship and origins, but with a similar orientation, referencing the same thematic and segment. / O presente trabalho tem como proposta analisar a representação social dos professores nos quadrinhos, introduzindo-se nos relevantes estudos da linha de pesquisa Formação de Educadores: saberes e competências, do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação da UFS. O interesse desta investigação não se trata, no entanto, de debater as definições inerentes a esta função ou analisar as considerações dos próprios docentes sobre a sua condição elementar na docência, mas diz respeito às significações relacionadas ao professor que precisam ser discutidas e, nesta pesquisa, com o viés se originando nos quadrinhos e com o olhar mais específico dos estudantes de ensino médio da Escola Estadual Santos Dumont (Aracaju - SE), e de suas apropriações e opiniões a partir de verificações pontuais ao trabalho de Maurício de Souza, com os quadrinhos do personagem Chico Bento; e de Charles Schulz, com tirinhas do Snoopy e sua turma. A busca primordial, evidenciando paralelos entre estes dois artistas, é por constatar se as imagens próprias que caracterizam os professores nos quadrinhos podem também permitir uma impressão legítima que evidencie uma representação coerente.

Leitura de histórias em quadrinhos do PNBE 2012 : a Turma do pererêBuffon, Eliana Cristina 16 December 2014 (has links)
Este estudo apresenta uma reflexão sobre a linguagem na modalidade narrativa denominada história em quadrinhos, a partir do estudo do livro A Turma do Pererê: 365 dias na Mata do Fundão, de Ziraldo. O referido título foi selecionado para estudo por pertencer ao acervo do Programa Nacional Biblioteca da Escola de 2012 (PNBE 2012), destinado aos anos iniciais do Ensino Fundamental. A pesquisa contempla a análise de procedimentos verbo-visuais empregados na construção do título e que deveriam ser apreciados em situação de leitura escolarizada, a fim de contribuir para o letramento dos estudantes. A investigação justifica-se em virtude do baixo desempenho da capacidade de leitura de estudantes, conforme resultados de avaliações de desempenho, da complexidade dos produtos culturais direcionados ao leitor mirim e, ainda, da inserção de histórias em quadrinhos nos acervos do PNBE. A investigação insere-se no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação da Universidade de Caxias do Sul – PPGEd/UCS, na linha de pesquisa Educação, Linguagem e Tecnologia e é parte integrante do projeto de pesquisa “Desafios e acolhimentos da literatura infantil: a mediação de leitura literária”, aprovado pela FAPERGS, que objetiva estudar obras selecionadas para compor acervos dos anos iniciais do Ensino Fundamental do PNBE. Entre teóricos que subsidiam a pesquisa, destacam-se: Mikhail Bakhtin (2006) e Lev S. Vygotsky (1998) com reflexões sobre linguagem; Will Eisner (2012), Moacy Cirne (1972, 1973, 2000), Álvaro de Moya (1993, 2002), Paulo Ramos (2009) e Valdomiro Vergueiro (2009) com aspectos da linguagem dos quadrinhos; Brian Street (1984) e Soares (2010, 2013), com estudos sobre letramento, entre outros. O estudo está organizado em capítulos, discorrendo acerca de (a) relações entre educação e linguagem, considerando a escola como espaço de letramento; (b) processos metodológicos da pesquisa e (c) análise da obra e indicação de elementos presentes na composição do título, que deveriam ser considerados na mediação de leitura literária. A metodologia pautou-se na descrição analítica de aspectos da obra selecionada, a fim de apontar procedimentos empregados na construção dessa modalidade discursiva presente nas bibliotecas escolares brasileiras. Como resultados, destacamos, a partir do corpus estudado, que as histórias em quadrinhos contemplam temas que possibilitam a identificação do estudante com o conflito posto, por apresentar situações presentes no cotidiano e que há constâncias no modo de enunciação das narrativas que precisam ser consideradas em propostas de leitura mediada no ambiente escolar. Alertamos, ainda, para a necessidade de o professor ter conhecimento acerca da linguagem dos quadrinhos e sua especificidade como gênero, a fim de contribuir para o letramento dos estudantes. / Based on a study on Ziraldo´s book A Turma do Pererê: 365 dias na Mata do Fundão, this piece of work presents some reflection on the language used in comic books (or comic strips). The book above mentioned was chosen for this study because it is part of 2012´s Library in the School National Program (PNBE 2012), a range of books aimed at the early years of Elementary School in Brazil. The study means to carry out an analysis on enunciation procedures used in the construction of the work, and which can be analyzed in the context of schooled reading, meaning to contribute to students´ literacy learning process. The research can be justified on the fact that students tend to present poor reading skills, as shown in assessments made public about this area, on the complexity of the cultural products aimed at the young reader, and, besides, on the insertion of comic strips in the PNBE range of books. The investigation follows the Education, Language and Technology approach, and it is part of the Post-Graduation in Education Program of the Caxias do Sul University (PPGEd/UCS). It is also part of a research project called “Challenges and welcomings in children´s literature: the mediation of the literary reading”, which has been approved by FAPERGS and which means to study the books that have been short-listed to make up the PNBE range of books for the early years of Elementary Education. Among the authors whose ideas have contributed to the research there are: Mikhail Bakhtin (2006), Lev S. Vygotsky (1998), both of which helped on reflections upon language; Will Eisner (2012), Moacy Cirne (1972, 1973, 2000), Álvaro de Moya (1993, 2002), Paulo Ramos (2009) and Valdomiro Vergueiro (2009), who discuss aspects of the language used in comic strips; Brian Street (1984), with his studies on literacy, and Joseph Schwarcz (1982), who elaborates on the role played by illustration on children´s books, among others. The study is organized in chapters, which contemplate (a) the relations between education and language, considering the school as a space for literacy; (b) the methodological processes of the research, and (c) an analysis of the work and indication of the elements present in the making up of the title, which should be taken into consideration in the mediation of literary reading. It was the analytical description of aspects of the work chosen that guided the method, aiming to pinpoint the procedures used in the construction of this discursive modality present in the Brazilian schools´ libraries. As a result, it stands out in the studied corpus that comic books contemplate themes that make it possible to identify the student with the expressed conflict, as it presents situations that are present in daily life and that there are instances in the way the narrative is enunciated which need to be taken into consideration when mediated reading is proposed in the school environment. Last but not least, one highlights the importance of teachers being familiar with the language used in comic strips, besides its specificity as a genre so as to make it possible for them to contribute for the students´ literacy.
