The use and non-use of sports supplements : A mixed methods study among people exercising at gyms / Användning och icke-användning av kosttillskott : En mixed methods-studie bland individer som tränar på gymMoberg, Kajsa January 2017 (has links)
Sports supplements include nutritional supplements and ergogenic aids and are widely used in the gym culture. Previous research has examined predictors for supplement use, but lacks an insight into why these patterns appear. The objective was to examine predictors for sports supplement use among people exercising at gyms and explore how sports supplements are used, perceived and viewed upon among a group of regular gym users. A mixed methods explanatory sequential design was used. In phase 1, an online cross-sectional survey was conducted. Phase 2 consisted of six semi-structured interviews exploring why sports supplements are used and not used, as well as expectations and beliefs regarding sports supplements among training individuals. 85 individuals participated in the survey. 68 percent used sports supplements regularly, but no predictors from previous research could be confirmed. The interviews showed that supplements were used for convenience and to ensure a sufficient nutrition intake, while non-users expressed a lack of knowledge and believed supplements to be inefficient and unnecessary. No predictors for use of sports supplements were confirmed, but both users and non-users highly value health responsibility in their decision of supplement use. To users, sports supplements are efficient and convenient dietary complements and replacements. Non-supplement users regard sports supplements to be unnecessary, inefficient and less enjoyable than food. Due to the small sample size, more studies are needed within the field in order to fully understand the role of sports supplements in the target group. / Träningstillskott inkluderar tillskott av enskilda näringsämnen och prestationshöjande medel och används flitigt i gymvärlden. Tidigare forskning har undersökt vilka faktorer som spelar roll för användning av tillskott, men saknar en djupare insikt om varför dessa mönster uppstår.Syftet var att undersöka avgörande faktorer för användning av träningstillskott bland individer som tränar på gym samt undersöka hur en grupp gymtränande individer använder, uppfattar och ser på träningstillskott. En mixed methods explanatory sequential design användes. Fas 1 bestod av en onlineenkät. Fas 2 utgjordes av sex semistrukturerade intervjuer som undersökte varför träningstillskott används respektive inte används samt förväntningar och uppfattningar gällande träningstillskott bland tränande individer. 85 individer deltog i enkäten. 68 procent använde träningstillskott regelbundet, men inga av de faktorer för användning som identifierats i tidigare forskning kunde bekräftas. Intervjuerna visade att tillskott användes av bekvämlighetsskäl och för att försäkra individen om ett tillräckligt näringsintag, medan icke-användare uttryckte otillräcklig kunskap och uppfattade tillskott som ineffektiva och onödiga. Inga prediktorer för användning av träningstillskott kunde bekräftas, men både användare och icke-användare värderar hälsoansvar högt i sitt beslut gällande användning av träningstillskott. Användare anser tillskott vara effektiva och bekväma komplement och ersättare i kosten. Icke-tillskottsanvändare uppfattar tillskott som onödiga, ineffektiva och mindre njutningsfulla än mat. På grund av ett litet urval behövs fler studier inom området för att få en tydligare bild av hur träningstillskott används av målgruppen.

FARELO DE ARROZ INTEGRAL NA RECRIA DE BEZERRAS DE CORTE EM AZEVÉM / WHOLE RICE BRAN IN THE REARING BEEF HEIFERS IN ITALIAN RYEGRASSAmaral Neto, Luiz Gonzaga do 22 February 2016 (has links)
The experiment was carried out with the objective of evaluating the gross margin, the productive and reproductive performance of beef heifers kept exclusively on ryegrass pasture (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) or ryegrass receiving 0.5 and 1.0% of body weight (BW) of whole rice bran as supplement, provided daily at at 2:00 p.m. The grazing method was the rotational and the interval between grazings was set by the thermal sum required for the appearing of 1.5 ryegrass leaf (187.5º C). The experimental design was completely randomized with repeated measures, three feeding systems and two and two area replications. Heifers in different feeding systems were kept in similar forage mass and canopy height when they came out of plots in all paddocks. The heifers average daily gain did not differ between the feeding systems. The stocking rate and weight gain per area were higher when heifers received 1.0% BW of whole rice bran. The provision of 0.5% BW of WRB allowed stocking rate and capacity gain for intermediate area between the other feeding systems. The higher gross margin was observed when heifers received 0.5% BW. The variable cost obtained for the different feeding systems showed increasing behavior depending on the WRB levels, surpassing the exclusive use of ryegrass in 37.2% and 60.6%. The final body weight, body condition score and reproductive tract score did not differ between the feeding systems. Considering an adult animal with an average body weight of 450 kg, the heifers at the beginning of the experiment showed 34% of mature body weight and final average body weight of 56% of adult weight. / O experimento foi conduzido com o objetivo de avaliar a margem bruta, o desempenho produtivo e reprodutivo de bezerras de corte mantidas exclusivamente em pastagem de azevém (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) ou em azevém recebendo 0,5 e 1,0% do peso corporal (PC) de farelo de arroz integral (FAI) como suplemento, fornecido diariamente às 14 horas. O método de pastejo foi o rotativo e o intervalo entre pastejos foi estabelecido considerando a soma térmica necessária para a emissão de 1,5 folha de azevém (187,5º C). O delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado, com medidas repetidas no tempo, três sistemas alimentares e duas repetições de área. As bezerras, nos diferentes sistemas alimentares, foram mantidas em similar massa de foragem e altura de dossel quando saíram das parcelas em todos os piquetes. O ganho médio diário das bezerras não diferiu entre os sistemas alimentares. A taxa de lotação e o ganho de peso por área foram maiores quando as bezerras receberam 1,0% do PC de farelo de arroz integral. O fornecimento de 0,5% do PC de FAI permitiu taxa de lotação e ganho por área intermediários entre os demais sistemas alimentares. A maior margem bruta foi observada quando as bezerras receberam 0,5% de FAI. O custo variável obtido para os diferentes sistemas alimentares apresentou comportamento crescente em função dos níveis de FAI, superando o uso exclusivo do azevém em 37,2% e 60,6%. O peso corporal final, o escore de condição corporal e o escore do trato reprodutivo não diferiram entre os sistemas alimentares. Considerando um animal adulto com peso corporal médio de 450 kg, as bezerras ao início do experimento apresentaram 34% do peso corporal adulto e peso corporal final médio de 56% do peso adulto.

O trabalho objetivou avaliar o efeito de probióticos e antibióticos utilizados como promotores do crescimento sobre o desempenho de frangos de corte e a capacidade dos agentes de alterar o ecossistema intestinal de aves criadas em baterias e sobre piso. Adicionalmente foi estudado o efeito dos probióticos sobre a presença de oocistos na cama das aves. Os antibióticos tiveram sua eficácia, como promotores de crescimento, comprovada para aves criadas sobre piso, mas não em bateria. Foram observadas alterações na estrutura da comunidade de Bacteria no trato intestinal de frangos criados em baterias e sobre piso e suplementados com antibióticos. Não houve evidência de efeito favorável dos probióticos sobre o desempenho e incidência de oocisto na cama das aves. Os probióticos não tiveram a capacidade de colonizar o epitélio intestinal de frangos de corte. Foram observadas discretas modificações na estrutura da comunidade de Bacteria de frangos criados em bateria e sobre piso e suplementados com dietas contendo probióticos. A estrutura da comunidade de Bacteria do intestino delgado de frangos foi modificada em função do ambiente no qual frangos, suplementados com probióticos e antibióticos, foram criados. Frangos isentos de qualquer tipo de promotor de crescimento apresentaram 15 unidades taxonômicas operacionais distintas na microbiota intestinal aderida ao epitélio, predominantemente Lactobacillus e Pseudomonas. / This study was conducted to evaluated the effects of growth promoter probiotic and antibiotics on the perfomance and organ morphometry of broiler chickens raised in floor pens and in batteries and the ability of the additive to promote changes in the intestinal ecosystem. Additionally, the effect of probiotics on the presence of coccidia oocysts in the litter was evaluated. The efficacy of antibiotics as growth promoters was observed when the chickens were raised in floor pens but not in batteries. Antibiotic supplementation caused changes in the structure of Bacteria community of the intestinal tract of chicken raised in floor pens or in batteries. The probiotic additives tested did not result in improvement in performance in both environmental or in oocyst incidence in the litter. Also, the probiotic did not have the ability to colonize the intestinal epithelium of the birds. Discrete changes in the structure of Bacteria community were observed when probiotics were supplemented to chickens raised in floor pens or in batteries. Bacteria community structure in the small intestine of chicken was modified as a function of the environmental in which the birds were raised. Chicken fed diets devoid of growth promoters had 15 distinct phylogenetic groups in the microbiota adhered to the intestinal epithelium.

Processamento de grãos de milho flint e sua substituição por polpa cítrica em dietas para tourinhos Nelore terminados em confinamento / Flint corn grain processing and increasing levels of citrus pulp in finishing diets for Nellore bulls.Vinícius Nunes de Gouvêa 18 June 2012 (has links)
O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar os efeitos de métodos de processamentos de grãos de milho flint (floculação (MF), 310 g/L x moagem (MM), 1,3 mm de tamanho médio de partícula - TMP) e sua substituição parcial por polpa cítrica peletizada (0, 25, 50 e 75% da MS da dieta) no desempenho e nas características da carcaça de tourinhos terminados em confinamento. Foram utilizados 216 tourinhos da raça Nelore, com peso inicial de 350 kg, alojados em 40 baias coletivas, distribuídos um delineamento em blocos casualizados em arranjo fatorial 2 x 4, perfazendo um total de oito tratamentos (MM0, MM25, MM50, MM75, MF0, MF25, MF50, MF75). O experimento teve duração de 103 dias, após a adaptação dos animais às dietas experimentais, que apresentaram na composição da MS, 12% de bagaço de cana de açúcar in natura (BIN) e 88% de concentrado. Os dados foram analisados através do procedimento MIXED do pacote estatístico SAS, sendo a baia considerada a unidade experimental. Houve interação significativa (P<0,05) para as variáveis IMS, PF, GPD e GPD/IMS entre os tipos de processamento de milho e sua substituição por polpa cítrica na dieta. A substituição do milho floculado por polpa cítrica não afetou (P>0,05) a IMS dos animais, entretanto, houve efeito positivo (P<0,05) da polpa cítrica na IMS dos animais alimentados com milho moído quando a polpa substituiu 50% desse milho (MM50) em comparação com os tratamentos MM0 e MM75. A inclusão de polpa cítrica diminuiu o GPD dos animais nas dietas contendo milho floculado (1,80; 1,52; 1,70; 1,58 kg.cab-1), e aumentou o GPD nas dietas contendo milho moído (1,60; 1,74; 1,85; 1,70 kg.cab-1). A maior eficiência alimentar foi observada nos animais alimentados exclusivamente com milho floculado, seguido pelos animais alimentados com a dieta MF50. Inclusão de polpa cítrica diminuiu a eficiencia alimentar dos animais alimentados com milho floculado (0,222; 0,190; 0,200; 0,184) e não teve nenhum efeito para os animais recebendo dietas contendo milho moído (0,180; 0,176; 0,180; 0,186). A Elg foi maior para as dietas contendo milho floculado (1,73; 1,51; 1,56; 1,45 e 1,42 Mcal kg.MS-1) em comparação com as dietas contendo milho moído (1,42; 1,37; 1,39; 1,44 Mcal kg.MS-1), com um efeito negativo da polpa cítrica nas dietas contendo milho floculado. A espessura de gordura foi maior nos animais alimentados com milho moído em comparação aos animais alimentados com milho floculado (4,4 mm x 5,0 mm). Quando a polpa cítrica substituiu até 50% do milho nas dietas, o teor de amido fecal foi menor para as dietas contendo milho floculado em comparação as dietas contendo milho moído (2,0% x 9,3%). Em conclusão, a floculação aumenta a Elg para bovinos Nelore alimentados com dietas ricas em concentrado, em comparação à moagem fina. A polpa cítrica diminui a Elg nas dietas contendo milho floculado e não apresenta efeitos negativos sobre as dietas contendo milho moído para bovinos da raça Nelore terminados em confinamento. / The effects of flint corn processing (steam flaking, 310 g/l vs. gridding, 1.3 mm GMD) and the partial replacement of corn with citrus pulp (0, 25, 50 or 75%) in feedlot diets were evaluated. A total of 216 Nellore bulls (IBW 350 kg) were allotted to 40 pens and used in a randomized complete block design with a 2 × 4 factorial arrangement of treatments (SF100:CP0; SF75:CP25; SF50:CP50; SF25:CP75; GC100:CP0; GC75:CP25; GC50:CP50; GC25:CP75) for 103-d. The diets contained (% DM) 12% sugar cane bagasse and 88% concentrate. Data was analyzed using mixed procedure of SAS with pens as experimental units. For DMI, ADG, G/F and observed NEg the effects of grain processing, the effects of citrus pulp inclusion in the diets and interactions were significant (P < 0.01). All the diets containing SFC presented less DMI than the GC75:CP25 and the GC50:CP50 diets. Citrus pulp had no effect on DMI of the SFC diets, however it increased DMI when it replaced up to 50% of the GC. Inclusion of CP decreased ADG in the SFC diets (1.80; 1.52; 1.70; 1.58 kg.head-1 and it increased ADG in the GC diets (1.60; 1.74; 1.85; 1.70 kg.head- 1. The greatest G/F was observed for Nellore cattle fed the SF100:CP0 diet followed by the SF50:CP50 diet. Inclusion of citrus pulp decreased G/F of cattle fed SFC (0.222; 0.190; 0.200; 0.184) and had no effect for cattle fed GC diets (0.180; 0.176; 0.180; 0.186). Diet NEg was greater for SFC diets (1.73; 1.51; 1.56; 1.45 Mcal kg.DM-1 than for GC diets (1.42; 1.37; 1.39; 1.44 Mcal kg.DM-1, with a negative effect of CP in the SFC diets. Fat thickness was greater for GC than for SFC diets (4.4 mm vs. 5.0 mm). When CP replaced up to 50% of corn in the diets fecal starch was less for SFC diets than for GC diets (2.0% vs. 9.3%). In conclusion, SFC increases diet NEg for Nellore cattle fed high concentrate diets compared to ground corn. Citrus pulp decreases NEg in SFC diets and has no negative effects on ground corn diets NEg for Nellore cattle.

Según el Ministerio de Salud (MINSA), la anemia constituye un problema de salud pública, la cual afecta a niños especialmente en situaciones de pobreza. Finalmente, concluimos que el proyecto Kumi Gomitas, es viable y esto se ve reflejado a través de la evaluación económica, que da como resultado un VPN para los inversionistas de S/125,699 y una TIR de 23.91%. El papel de los elementos del gerontodiseño en empaques de suplementos nutricionales para adultos mayores en el PerúChan Tay On Kou, Alexandra Valeria 30 November 2020 (has links)
La investigación tiene como objetivo analizar la función de los elementos visuales del gerontodiseño para comunicar información nutricional en los suplementos nutricionales dirigidos a los adultos mayores. La hipótesis propone que los elementos necesarios para la eficiente comunicación de una información nutricional completa son la tipografía, la paleta de colores, la gráfica visual y la forma del empaque.
La metodología empleada consistió en un análisis documental, mediante la selección de dos marcas, Glucerna y Ensure, para el adulto mayor analizando el contenido de la información nutricional relacionado con los principales elementos del gerontodiseño. Adicionalmente, se realizó una encuesta a un grupo de 25 adultos mayores que consumen suplementos nutricionales, así como una entrevista a un experto que ha trabajado con marcas similares.
Los principales resultados obtenidos, de acuerdo con los elementos del gerontodiseño, son que la tipografía presenta una fuente de letra san serif cumpliendo con la función de otorgar mayor legibilidad de la información; el contraste de color utilizado contribuye a diferenciar los elementos presentes; la imagen principal posee un movimiento orgánico para mostrar de manera más realista el producto a consumir y la forma de la estructura del empaque, al ser cilíndrica, favorece al adulto mayor a sostenerlo con firmeza y a proteger el contenido del interior.
Se concluye que ambos productos toman en consideración los elementos del gerontodiseño en el diseño de su empaque, con lo que cumplen funciones esenciales para que el adulto mayor tenga la capacidad de poder visualizar la información que brinda el producto. / The research aims to analyze the role of visual elements of gerontodesign in communicating nutritional information in elder´s nutritional supplements. The hypothesis proposes that the necessary elements for an efficient communication for a complete nutritional information are typography, color palette, visual graphics and shape of the package.
The methodology used for the investigation was a documentary analysis, where two brands of elder´s nutritional supplement (Glucerna and Ensure) were selected to observe the way the nutritional information is exposed in comparison to the main elements of gerontodesign. In addition, a survey was taken to group of 25 elders who consume nutritional supplements, plus an interview with an expert who has worked with similar brands.
The main results obtained, according to the elements of the gerontodesign, is that the typography use in this products is a san serif font for a better reading of the information, the contrast of color is use to show the different elements present in the product, and the main image has an organic movement to show a more realistic way the product could be consumed and the shape of the structure of the package is cylindrical to favor the elderly to hold it better and to protect the content inside.
It is concluded that both brands take into consideration the elements of gerontodesign for their packing design, because grown people may present certain difficulties that must be taken in consideration in the elaboration of the packaging. / Trabajo de investigación

El presente trabajo de investigación desarrolla una idea de negocio para el curso Emprendimiento de Negocios Sostenibles: Implementación, impartido en la Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC). Nuestro modelo de negocio se consolidó con los conocimientos aprendidos durante la trayectoria universitaria. Para desarrollarlo, identificamos los dos principales problemas que presentan los dueños de perros al momento de educarlos y alimentarlos, ya que debido a la coyuntura hay una mayor cantidad de familias con al menos una mascota en casa. El problema de educarlos adecuadamente radica en la elección de un premio que la mascota quiera recibir y que a la vez este sea saludable y contribuya con su alimentación. Frente a ello, nuestra idea de negocio ha sido diseñada para poder dar una solución a esos dos problemas identificados, puesto que elaboramos galletas caseras saludables que sirven como premio y como complemento alimenticio debido al aporte nutricional de los ingredientes. La elaboración de las galletas premio saludables para perros es a base de avena y plátano, tiene vitamina B6, vitamina C, magnesio y potasio, ayudando así a mejorar la frecuencia cardiaca y a promover la salud ósea. Realizamos una investigación para determinar a nuestro público objetivo dentro de Lima metropolitana.
Para nuestra idea de negocio, desarrollamos un plan que nos permita ordenar los recursos y estrategias adecuadas durante los primeros 3 años, ya que es importante conocer si el negocio es rentable. / This research work develops a business idea for the course Sustainable Business Entrepreneurship: Implementation, taught at the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences (UPC). Our business model was consolidated with the knowledge learned during the university career. To develop it, we identified the two main problems that dog owners present when educating and feeding them, since due to the situation there are a greater number of families with at least one pet at home. The problem of educating them properly lies in choosing a treat that the pet wants to receive and that at the same time is healthy and contributes to their diet. Faced with this, our business idea has been designed to be able to provide a solution to these two identified problems, since we make healthy homemade cookies that serve as a reward and as a food supplement due to the nutritional contribution of the ingredients. The preparation of healthy treats for dogs is based on oatmeal and banana, it has vitamin B6, vitamin C, magnesium and potassium, thus helping to improve heart rate and promote bone health. We conducted an investigation to determine our target audience within metropolitan Lima, determining zones 6 and 7 as the most appropriate.
For our business idea, we develop a plan that allows us to organize the appropriate resources and strategies during the first 3 years, since it is important to know if the business is profitable. / Trabajo de investigación

Kartläggning av järndepåer hos blodgivare i Region Jönköpings län / Evaluation and highlighting of iron depots amongst blood donors in Jönköping CountyAnarp, Sofia, Lindgren, Elvira January 2022 (has links)
Tillgängligheten av blod kan vara livsavgörande för många personer, därför är blodgivning en viktig del av vården. För blodgivare kan en regelbunden blodgivning påverka kroppens järndepåer vilket på sikt kan leda till en järnbrist. Syftet med denna studie var att kartlägga blodgivares järndepåer i Region Jönköpings län genom att (i) utvärdera antalet och andelen nyanmälningar som ej uppfyllt godkänd S-ferritinnivå för blodgivning, (ii) jämföra nivåerna av S-ferritin vid nyregistrering och vid upprepad blodgivning, (iii) utvärdera intag av järnprofylax hos blodgivare, (iv) jämföra antalet, andelen samt orsaken till kontrollprovtagningar före och efter S-ferritin infördes som provtagningsrutin. Data insamlades och erhölls från Blodcentralen, Jönköping, Sverige, och analyserades statistiskt. Resultatet visade att fler kvinnor än män ej blev godkända som blodgivare på grund av S-ferritin <22 µg/L. Genom att sänka S-ferritinnivån kan fler kvinnor godkännas för blodgivning. Vidare visade studien att upprepad blodgivning leder till minskade järndepåer. Grupperna som erbjudits järnprofylax hade stabilare S-ferritin över tid vilket antyder att alla blodgivare skulle gynnas av järnprofylax, men vidare studier krävs. Majoriteten av blodgivare med S-ferritin ≤100 µg/L intar erbjudna järntabletter vilket visade att blodgivarna möjliggjorde fortsatt blodgivning. Slutligen visade studien att sedan S-ferritin infördes som provtagningsrutin 2017 har kontrollprovtagningar på grund av lågt B-Hb minskat, vilket visar att risken för att utveckla en järnbrist på grund av upprepad blodgivning har minskat i Region Jönköpings län. / The availability of blood could be crucial for many people; blood donation is, therefore, a vital part of healthcare. Continuous blood donation could affect the blood donors’ iron depots which could lead to an iron deficiency. The aim of the present study was to evaluate and highlight iron depots amongst blood donors in Jönköping County by (i) evaluating the number and proportion of new applicants which did not meet the approved S-ferritin levels for blood donation, (ii) compare the levels of S-ferritin in new registrations and repeated blood donations, (iii) evaluate intake of iron supplements amongst blood donors, (iv) compare the number, proportion and cause for control sampling before and after S-ferritin was introduced as a sampling routine. Data was collected from the Department of Transfusion Medicine, Jönköping, Sweden, and analysed statistically.The result showed that more women than men were not approved for blood donation because of S-ferritin <22 µg/L. By lowering S-ferritin, additional women will be approved for blood donation. Further, the study showed that continuous blood donation leads to decreased iron depots. Groups that were offered iron supplements showed more stable S-ferritin levels over time which implied that all blood donors would benefit from iron supplements, but further studies are required. The majority of the blood donors with S-ferritin ≤100 µg/L were taking their offered iron supplements which showed that the blood donors enabled future blood donations. Lastly, since S-ferritin was introduced as a sampling routine in 2017 the amount of control samplings due to low B-Hb has decreased. This shows that the risk to develop an iron deficiency due to continuous blood donation has decreased in Jönköping County.

En este proyecto se planteó una idea de negocio evaluando la viabilidad comercial y financiera aplicando todos los recursos y aprendizajes a lo largo de la carrera universitaria. Primero hemos identificado el problema, el cual existe poca oferta de complementos alimenticios en forma de golosinas saludables en el mercado peruano, el sabor no tan agradable con exceso de saborizantes, altos en químicos y los elevados precios que no motivan a las personas a adquirirlos. Por ello, analizando las tendencias de complementos alimenticios, la oferta y la demanda mediante estudios primarios y secundarios. Nuestro público objetivo seleccionado son ciudadanos de Lima Metropolitana Moderna entre 18 y 55 años de los Niveles Socioeconómicos A y B que usan complementos alimenticios. Por ello, creamos Junglamitas, el cual es un complemento alimenticio en forma de gomitas hecho a base de 100% fruta natural, orgánica y exótica de la Selva Peruana. El producto cuenta con tres presentaciones distintas: Gomitas de Aguaje con colágeno, para obtener un gran beneficio para la piel , Gomitas de Camu Camu con B12 para el sistema inmunitario y brindar energía, Gomitas de Aguaymanto y magnesio para aliviar la ansiedad y combatir el estrés. Para poner en marcha el proyecto, hemos desarrollado experimentos que validen el modelo de negocio, una proyección de ventas del producto, un desarrollo de un plan estratégico, de operaciones, de Recursos Humanos, de marketing, de Responsabilidad Social Empresarial y Financiero concluyendo que el negocio es rentable y escalable. / In this project, a business idea was proposed evaluating the commercial and financial viability applying all the resources and learning throughout the university career.
